I'm extremely pleased with Amethyst Driving school. I found them through Yelp and I'm so happy to say I passed my road test! David was my instructor and he is literally the coolest and sweetest man ever. I also appreciate that he is realistic and gives great tips on how to drive. I always felt comfortable with him. I also love the other staff at ADS. Setting up the lessons was a breeze. I did everything through the phone, I never had to go out to the office which was convenient during the pandemic. I stopped by at Amethyst 12 days ago to check their pre-license certificate aka 5 hour class availability. Friday 5 PM and Sunday 10 AM are the options. I attended right away at 5 PM. Daria made the registration process so easy. We were about 10 people attending. Anastasia was our teacher. She explains really well and ready to answer any questions you might have during the class. Yes she speaks fast as she informed us in advance but do not hesitate to interrupt her once you lose the track. After 2 hours, we had a 10 minute break and they were so kind to offer us tea-coffee and cookies. They have bathroom fyi. Upon completion of the lesson, we got our certificates and the ones who wants to schedule road test and driving lessons waited, I booked a 45 min. lesson with Alex and the test. Driving lesson with Alex was good, he helped me understand my mistakes and drew some examples on ipad to clarify. Before the test I had some questions about parking which Anastasia answered right away via text messaging. She really cares and helps. My overall experience is really satisfying. Thank you guys. P.S. I got full refund after paying for a package. I was not happy with first lesson because Instructor Alex has a bad attitude and there is a language barrier. i have heavy spanish accent and he seemed frustrated with that. I called the school and they took his side completely so I requested full refund and went with another Driving school. If i'm going to learn how to drive i need someone more happier doing their job especially if i'm paying so much money during a pandemic. I was a 27 year old woman with NO DRIVING EXPERIENCE AT ALL, literally! Until today! I had never been interested in driving in my life, until I got a job away from my apartment. Then I decided to get a drivers license and started yelping to find somewhere close to my apartment. I found Amethyst, checked out their reviews and decided to go there. At that time, I didn't even know that I need to pass the learners permit test at Dmw! The lady at the register was extremely kind to me and explained everything two times since I had no clue at first sight lol So, I passed the test couple days later and came back for 5 hour lecture and driving lessons. My driving instructor, Roman, was the best instructor I had ever had, but literally. He explained everything with patience, he taught me all the details about driving & road test, and he helped me to fix all my mistakes before I take the road test. We had 7-8 classes (I HAD NO PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE) and I passed the test ON MY FIRST TIME! It took me less than a month to do all these and got my license! Oh before I forgot, their prices are so reasonable. $45 for 45 min lesson and they have discounts for packages. Where do I even begin? Amethyst Driving School has truly changed my life within my driving journey. Most importantly I have to give the best of the best also known as my driving instructor 'David' a huge shoutout. David was not only a driving instructor in my eyes much rather a true inspiration. Yes he has taught me so much as a individual who never had hands on the wheels before but he has also created such a fun and comfortable learning environment. When I was scared, nervous or had self doubt, David was always there to cheer me on and to show me what it is to believe in myself which is such an important aspect in life. I purchased a 3 lesson package and had Alex as my driving instructor. He may seem stern at times, but in my opinion, that is a great trait for a teacher. You learn the most this way. He'll point out errors during the lessons that would result in minus points or a fail on the road test. All you have to do is listen, and make a conscious effort to stop making those errors. I came to this driving school with little experience in driving. I bought the package of 3 lessons, 5hour class and use of the car for the road test. I can not express how happy I am I choose this school. Alex my instructor was awesome, he gave me feedback and we worked on it until we got it right. Today I achieved my license and am overwhelmed with joy. If anyone needs great teaching this is definitely the place to go! AVOID AVOID AVOID . I would give zero stars if I could. Have no communication between front desk staff and drivers. Do not care about verbal agreements. Absolutely ignore if you have a medical condition to make your life harder (edit: claims they care in her comment but the driver absolutely ignored so she may care but her employee didn't). AND I took the test on a different car than learning on (took a couple lessons on this car AMD SWITCHED INSTRUCTORS SPECIFICALLY TO USE A DIFFERENT CAR TO LEARN ON) which as a new driver is the worst possible way to attempt a driving test, on an unfamiliar car. If you absolutely have to go here, avoid the driver named Alex. Do yourselves a favor and take your business to a better school. THEY WILL ALSO HARASS YOU ON YOUR PHONE IF YOU WRITE BAD YELP REVIEWS. Edit: I forgot to mention : if something is part of the package that I purchased, I was annoyed that it was referred to as "free". Isn't the point of the package deals that it includes certain things? Otherwise I would pay for every lesson, test, and service a la carte. Not the best place. Forgive me for the long review but I think this needs explaining. Alex was my instructor. There was a language barrier. Would get frustrated if I asked him to elaborate, was very inconsistent towards my last couple of lessons... He didn't have me practice my turns a lot or have me drive through traffic, a lot of the time he just had me drive down straight roads... On the day of my road test there was a miscommunication between Alex and the office with the time it was scheduled, thankfully I was ready earlier. I calmly explained that it was okay they made a mistake because I was already ready to go anyway trying to ease the tension, but the instructor kept yelling at me that I was picking a bad time to be irresponsible blah blah blah. No understanding of decency whatsoever. With all the yelling going on, I became super nervous for my road test. There was also an incident going on the day I went in for my 5 hour course. A parent was upset that her daughter was given a vehicle that wasn't safe to drive (there was an issue with the breaks) & Anastasia refused to give a refund for that ONE lesson... She insisted that the car was safe to drive, even though Roman warned her daughter that the breaks weren't working. Why would anyone put a teenager in a car like that when they're learning how to drive? It went on and on between the parent and Anastasia because Amethyst refused to take accountability for this - as they did with everything else. When I was looking into this place, there was all these good reviews but from what I've seen, this place seems like a hit or miss. 5 hour course is great though! read more

I want to give this business two stars just for the one reason being that the women who called my phone was pleasant to talk to and was thorough when answering certain questions . However although booking the class was easy and was well organized by the school there were some issues . One being was that my driver was 15 minutes late , being that I have an open schedule I really didn't care if it was little bit later but upon arrival the driver greeted me with an attitude and made me wait several minutes until he called my name . Second of all , as soon as I went into the car Alex greeted me . He seemed in a rush but I had to ask him to open the window due to covid related concerns even though the ac was on . He gave me an attitude about the window situation , and may I also mention that his mask was NOT fully on on and was taking it off several times . My temperature was also not taken as well , even though I was promised that it would be done before hand . The only reason I stood for the ride was because I needed the lesson and I was told there was no refund available for last minute cancelations . The only thing I can say about the teacher Alex is that he did teach me well and that he was on top of my mistakes . He also managed to grab my hands a couple of time while I was driving and basically put his hands on top of mine at least three times . The only reason I am reporting this is because COVID PROTOCOL WAS NOT FOLLOWED! These drivers need to be safe with their students . And can I mention that the office then called me back to schedule another lesson and when I complained to her about the teacher she proceeded to tell me that I somehow forgot or was mistaken . Did my five hour course here, which, I mean it's a five hour course so it was horrible and long, but if you are in Brooklyn off the B/Q line it's easy to get to and not pricey. I also took several lessons with Anastasia. She's awesome! Keeps it real with you; firm, but personable and really helps you develop good driving habits. I failed my road test due to poor teaching from two instructors!!! First instructor was Alex! When I first met him he didnt even greet me and his mask was not on properly which is a huge problem for me because I already paid for my lesson so I cant turn back now and If i get sick because of his poor hygiene then my whole family gets sick. On top of that he barely spoke throughout the lesson and when i did something wrong he would huff and puff and have an attitude while telling me how to do it the right way. I told him I didnt want to learn with him anymore and to take me back home. The school ended up giving me a different instructor Anastasia who acted as if she was the best and that she was so smart but i could barely even understand what she was saying. This school has poor communication when knowing how to speak calmly and clearly to NeW drivers!!! I warn you they do not have any patience for new drivers!! They get easily fustrated and worry more about the car because they use expensive Mercedes Benz to teach with so if you hit a puddle or hole or turn to hard they get so mad. Not smart to use expensive cars for student drivers. On day of road test my instructor was so fustrated and made me so nervous and kept on saying that I was not going to pass instead of teaching me and helping me stay calm. Then instead of teaching me she spent half of hour parked calling other customers and scheduling more lessons while i was sitting in the car with her waiting. Unbelievable how unprofessional and careless they are. You pay before lesson so your basically stuck with them. Then after paying in full they kept forgetting that I paid and saying I owed them. After i told her i paid already she acted like she forgot but she did this to me everytime before confirming appointment like if she was trying to get me to pay again and again. I absolutely hated my experience with this school and I would not recommend to anyone with no experience at all because they have no patience and are very touchy. I had a class with Alex once but he seemed very distracted, listening to the radio and being on his tablet while giving his lesson. I took the 10 class package about a year ago and was very happy with my experience. I started with Anastasia for my first class and she really gave me a good intro to driving (never drove before). Due to scheduling, I ended up doing the rest of the classes with Alex. Switching cars was not a big deal since I only took one class with a sedan before switching to an SUV. Alex's teaching style is stern yet patient. He'll point out your mistakes and even reprimand you if you do something unsafe. But he'll take the time to help you improve. It was a slow improvement but by the end, I felt a bit more confident. I didn't pass the first time due to nerves and silly mistakes, but rescheduling a new test time with Amethyst was super easy and I passed the second time around. read more

I had such a great experience at Amethyst Driving School! After annoyingly letting my out-of-state license expire, I had to go through the whole process over again. But I just got my license (again) yesterday thanks to the help of Anastasia and Alex (Sasha is his nickname)!! I took lessons with both of them and can say that they are both really calm, patient, and genuinely care about their students passing. They are also great about coaching you for the driving test during lessons by reminding you of mistakes that students make, which cause them to fail and let you know what the inspectors are looking for during the test. read more

I started to look for professional instructors and thanks to yelp I found this driving school. All employees a very friendly and nice people. I had lessons with four different instructors (I found it useful, because you don't get used to the same voice giving instructions). I guess you can book lessons with the same person as well. Most of lessons were with Roman. What I find the most important about him is that he is a professional. He knows exactly what's difficult for a newbie and could predict all my rookie mistakes and helped me to avoid them. Unpleasant driving school. I had the guy as an instructor. During our 90 minute lesson, he grabbed the wheel from me four times, and grew incredibly frustrated as I wasn't getting it right. Every time I made a slight mistake he'd say "minus 15 points" (referring to failing the driving test.) paid for 90 minutes , he cut it short by almost 20. AVOID!! Terrible experience. read more

Great school. My teacher was Alexander, the best driving teacher one can ask for. He's kind and patient, and would always tell me if I made a mistake. I started my classes without ever getting behind the wheel before, and in just for lessons I became a great driver. All thanks to Alexander. This driving school is the best! They have an awesome package, ($500 for 10 lessons plus one free lesson on the test day) and it was well worth it. Roman was my teacher and he is AMAZING. Not only is he a wonderful teacher, but he was a pretty cool guy as well. Very friendly, and made me feel comfortable and safe behind the wheel. I can't say anything but GREAT! I came there from different driving school. I were very unsatisfied. The instructor lied to me about exam and tried to make me take as much classes as I can. I never drive before, so after 10-12 classes he still told me that I weren't ready and I have a lot to learn. So, I decide to try another school. I was driving with all 3 instructors there and everybody are very professional. My experience just AMAZING! They fix my mistakes for just 2 classes and I were ready to go to my driving test. Honestly, I didn't pass with my first take but its have nothing to do with my driving skills. I were too nervous. Lady at the office (unfortunately, I didn't remember her name) scheduled my test in next 4 days. She helped me with location and time. So, I wanna finish this review with big THANK YOU for the whole team - Alex, Anastasia and especially Roman, who gave me right push right before the test, so I passed it with confidence and only 15 points! P.S. All their cars new and clean. And they have a SUV. Since I'm 6'7, I can't fit in most regular sedans. That was one of the biggest surprises. Way to go guys! read more

I've decided to go to Amethyst Driving School after reading all their great reviews. However, the reviews doesn't reflect the experience I had at their school. I started with a 5 hour course with Anastasia. I learned a lot and I had a great feeling about the school. The 5 hour course was actually 3 hours, but I didn't mind because I didn't want to stay for 5 hours anyway. However, my experience with their Driving Instructors was a totally different experience. Every single time I finished my lesson, I feel frustrated and angry. My first instructor was Alex. He is very strict and expects you to get everything perfect the first time. While practicing with turns, I moved slowly and cautiously because I didn't know how much the car would turn when I turned the steering wheel. He started panicking and kept repeating and raising his voice to tell me to drive. He doesn't understand that beginners move slower than more advanced drivers. He expected me to follow his instructions and get it perfect the first time and he made sure that the car was turning perfectly by doing it himself. How am I suppose to get a feel of car if you take the steering wheel from me? After 3 lessons, I didn't feel like I was learning much and I didn't like being yelled at so I changed instructors. The next instructor I worked with, Roman, understood that beginners move more slowly. He didn't comment that I took a few seconds more than other drivers to make turns. However, he likes to be right. An example would be when I was making a turn on a stop sign that is not all way, I first checked to see if there were any pedestrians, then moved forward and looked at my left to see if cars were coming from my left, then I would look at my right. He told me that I should look both ways. Well, I need to first look at the left then look at the right. I can't see both sides at the same time. He told me that I can.... When he realized that he made a mistake, he told me that he's trying to help me pass my road test and he asked if I wanted to pass the road test. Then he told me that I need to listen to him because he is trying to help me pass the road test. This made me so frustrated.
