Denim jacket with patches all pinned and ready

Bangh is from Vietnam. Lam Son is just the name of the business. Bangh & his wife bought the business and kept the name. He is a master tailor. His skills are honed over a lifetime. He's my age! (71). I have used his skills for all manner of alterations: letting out suit pants, hemming pants, installing zippers, he can do anything. Lately, I've been using his skills - cash-only - for my quirky patching hobby. Some of the patch application is quite complex. For instance, a patch-on-patch on a back pocket of Levi's requires the temporary disconnection of the pocket, sewing the patches and then re-attaching the pocket. I blend patches (patch-on-patch) and these cost a buck or two more than just sewing on a flat patch. Taking in a denim jacket with 17 patches pinned in place this Monday. Eager to get it in and get an estimate.

I had my Halloween costume bell bottoms hemmed and it was done less than a week for a fair price! Can't wait for Halloween.

She got the corset top to fit me like a glove - as if it were made for me. I wanted to add removable off the shoulder straps that would fasten with small buttons. She ended up sewing one on and had me come in because she didn't like how it was making the dress look, it was causing a bulge. So she recommended to just sew the sleeves on seamlessly and then if I want to take them off the reception, just cut them (because it's not like I'm going to wear the dress again lol!). I'm so glad I went with her recommendation. I ended up loving the sleeves so much I didn't even feel the need to cut them off for the dancing. My dress was tailored perfectly to my height with heels. My dress was pretty detailed. Had many layers to the skirt including a horsehair layer. The corset had layered lace as well. After picking it up from Laura, it looked better than it did when I bought it! Additionally, there were some buttons in the back of the corset that were loose and she re-enforced those. Even the bustle was perfect. She does really hardy sturdy work but still maintained the delicate nature of the dress. In paying for the alterations we paid for half at our first appointment and the second half at the second appointment. Laura broke down all that we were paying which was really nice. I am so impressed with her work and will continue to return to her for all of my alterations.

I really wanted to have a great experience here, but unfortunately, my wedding dress alterations…read morewere filled with miscommunication, mistakes, and ultimately disappointment. At my initial appointment, I discussed several fairly straightforward alterations: taking in the dress, adding sleeves, closing the slit a bit, and adding a bustle. I was quoted for those services. At no point was I asked to put on heels to determine the hem, so I was surprised when I received a call days later with a new quote including hemming--something we hadn't discussed and couldn't have accurately determined without heels. At my second appointment (wearing heels), we agreed the length was perfect and no hem was needed. We finalized the price without the hem. The seamstress was unable to pin through the material to properly assess how much the dress needed to be taken in, but I trusted her judgment and was told we'd evaluate it again at the next visit. When I came back, a different seamstress informed me that the dress had already been hemmed--despite the prior agreement--and I'd be charged for it. I was told the hemming had already been done before my second fitting. To resolve it, she asked if I'd pay to finish hemming the remaining layers and I reluctantly agreed. She also had to take the dress in more--again, something that should've been handled earlier. At my final appointment, we added the bustle. I asked if the dress would be steamed and was told that it wouldn't be, as we hadn't agreed on that earlier and that the dress had come in "dirty" (it hadn't--it was brand new from the boutique). I was offered a discounted price for steaming and accepted it. When I arrived to pick up my dress, they had trouble locating it--it took about 10 minutes. Once I got it home, it was clear the dress had not been steamed. The sleeves that were added were poorly sewn and I had to reinforce them myself. A clasp that was supposedly fixed fell off just days before the wedding. I had to take the dress elsewhere to fix the clasp and have it professionally steamed. I did reach out to the owner about these issues, and to her credit, she reimbursed me most of what I paid via check (since their payment system was down). But even after all of that, on my actual wedding day, the bustle broke less than two hours into the reception, and I had to change. The dress also never fit properly despite asking at every appointment to take it in more. It was visibly too big and I spent my wedding day pulling it up constantly. I would not recommend Donna's Alterations for wedding dress alterations. My dress didn't require anything overly complex, but the experience was inconsistent, the quality was disappointing, and the lack of attention to detail created unnecessary stress during what should have been a joyful time. Updates on my experience: It's Wednesday, my dress still isn't ready. But no worries, communication has improved except my name isn't Jamie and my dress isn't a size large. This place deserves 0 stars, I did buy a new dress and if they charge me for alterations on a dress that wasn't ready for 3 weeks I'll cut my loses and leave it there. What a shame. Do better @Donna's Alterations. p.s. Sorry you're going through the same thing Jamie Edit to Wed. afternoon: I was able to pick up my dress today... and... I was feeling better when I went to pickup the dress because the original worker was there and the guy cashing me out was much nicer. That being said, the only difference between my dress two weeks ago now and today is that there is fabric sewed on crooked. There is no sweetheart alteration to the neckline, it's the exact same. I payed $139 for them to sew on lace. To the original neckline. That's right, quite literally would have saved time and money if I left the dress there. SO THANKFUL I HAVE A BACKUP DRESS. This place truly deserves 0 stars. What a disappointment. Glad I prepared for the worst outcome because that's exactly what I got.
