    Garden vegetables!!
    Jimmy C.

San Francisco Soup Company has been one of my most favorite places to have healthy, hearty soup bowls. This company brand once had two, three, or more places popping up everywhere throughout our big city. From this day forward, Ladle & Leaf had taken over. They had very healthy salad bowls and sandwiches alongside the soup varieties, especially on the menu. Even though I've forgotten to bring my plastic bowl for the soup, at least I bring with me my trusty steel soup spoon. I already ate my lunch in my workplace; therefore, I walked all the way down to order just a vegetable soup bowl. I wished one of the Hispanic working women had asked me whether or not I could have cilantro and green onions, but they're in such a hurry to prep up with other customers' orders. Here's hoping that they slow down a bit so that one of them shall ask me the next time I visit.

Yay, the San Francisco Soup Company has transformed and evolved to a brighter, more chic Ladle & Leaf. Today only (3.21.19) - In celebration of this new location, they are offering $1 soups and $3 salads from 10am - 2pm, score!! Thank you for offering specials to us FiDi folks. I got there around 11:15am today and the line was starting to get busy with the lunch crowd but it was moving quick! Service is super efficient and the line keeps on moving. However, the ladies at the salad bar could be a bit friendlier. One in particular was hating life, she was not smiling at all and looked rather annoyed by the added foot traffic. My cashier, Sabrina, was the saving grace! She made up for the salad station as she was super sweet - cheery and friendly, thank you for having such a great attitude and handling the crowd so well. While they do a great job in offering 10+ soup options, the ones my coworkers and I all tried today were overly salty. We all had to drink extra glasses of water when we got back to the office. Thank goodness for the bread that came along with it...that helped masked the saltiness a bit. They have a good selection of salads too. I got the chicken cobb salad and it was a good size but at regular price for $13.25, not sure how popular it will be. Overall, great start! Keep up the good work and I'm sure more lunch folks will be grabbing their quick bites here.

3.5 stars. This place ic close by my work and a great when I'm craving soup on a cold day. They've recently rebranded from sf soul company and now offer better selections and salads than before. The line can be long at times but the staff is pretty fast. My favorites are grandma's chicken noodle soup, when I feel like I'm coming down with a cold, turkey chili, and the split pea soup. Each order comes with a slice of bread. They have two sides only - regular or large - but if you select a combo with a soup and sandwich it's a few cents cheaper. There are two separate lines for soup and salad. Usually the soup line is longer. Take note so you don't accidentally queue up for the soup line. You can also order ahead and skip the lines by using ritual. There's seating around the corner on a nice day to enjoy your meal outside.

This is a great Ladle & Leaf because of the kind, cheerful, and smiling employees! They are the best part of the experience, not the food. This was my first time here and I got the Burmese Tea Leaf Salad. It is ok--no Burma Superstar quality but it gets the job done. Big portion size but it is still $16 so it is pricey. This is more a criticism of Ladle & Leaf and not this location. Solid workday lunch spot if the line across at Mixt is ridiculously long again. But even then, I'd opt for Mixt most of the time.

    Bug in the salad

Got a cockroach/bug in my salad. Worst yet, when we took it back for a refund, the manager said this is because the veggie are all organic, and shrugged it off saying it not entirely their fault. We just got our refund and left, but rest assure we'll never come back.

We split 2 pizzas - smoky eggplant and sausage (so we could get a red and a white). I liked the texture of both pizzas, but I think I'm more partial to the flavor of the white pizza. I liked the broccolini on the pizza, it added a different element to the dish. The eggplant one was good too - the chilis on it completed it. Overall, I would come back here if I'm with friends who like pizza - the other pizzas on the menus seemed interesting to try!

I came with a group of friends who were all tourists and first timers to Boudin, and they were all so happy and satisfied with their meals. Everyone ordered a bread bowl with a soup (clam and crab chowder). The sourdough bread bowl was so soft and actually had that sour taste to it that some sourdoughs lack. The portion size is great for the price of $15. Despite being a busy tourist destination, the cafe is very efficient with ordering and food service. They are really on top of it! There's lots of outdoor seating and limited indoor seating. There are free water cups for diners. There is a bathroom upstairs. Definitely would consider this as a must-try when you're visiting San Francisco! It's in a prime location that's walking distance to many attractions such as Lombard St and Pier 39. Along with yummy food, they also have many other pastries, including cutely shaped sourdoughs.

When the dish landed, I was initially impressed. But after the first bite, it felt a bit like the Wizard of Oz: impressive presentation hiding something less substantial underneath. Their lasagna is a sort of deconstructionist take on the classic dish. The noodles are cooked and layered almost naked between barely any pockets of filling. There were a few tidbits of meat, maybe sauce and no cheese within the layers themselves. The noodles are then baked, cut, plated, and topped with what I'd guess was about a 6 oz ladle of their bolognese, finished with finely pre-grated parmesan. The first bite was overwhelmingly pasta-forward. It took me a moment to understand how the dish had been assembled against my expectations. Once I cut into it and spread everything out, it became clear this wasn't the kind of lasagna I think of when ordering lasagna. It didn't check the familiar boxes - a rich ragù, maybe a creamy béchamel, or the sharp, salty depth of cheeses layered throughout. The dish lacked the complexity and savory comfort I was craving and expecting. Another miss was the homemade flatbread (which I went back and paid cash for, so it wasn't included in the total). Traditional Italian flatbread is a yeast-free bread made with flour, olive oil or lard, salt, and water or milk, then rolled thin and cooked until crisp yet chewy. This version tasted like flour, lard, and water. It wasn't crisp or chewy. As soon as I started chewing, it turned into an unappetizing doughy mass in my mouth. After the first quarter-piece, I didn't eat anymore. As for everything else, I arrived around 7:15 on a Saturday night, and the inside was packed with a small line to the door. The outdoor tables weren't full, but it was summer in San Francisco, more people were jockeying for seats inside than out. But I wasn't too concerned and I got there around 7, so all that is on me. There were a few specials written on a chalkboard, and the cashier was awesome while explaining those. They were incredibly patient. I apologized for holding up the line, and in a very Italian way, they assured me it was my right to make sure I ordered exactly what I wanted. That interaction honestly stood out as one of the better parts of the experience. I grabbed a table just as one opened up, helped myself to water a few times from the station, and my food arrived in about 20 minutes which wasn't bad considering how busy they were. There's been a bit of internal conflict with this review. I usually don't like judging a restaurant based on a single dish, especially a restaurant with so many positive reviews. But I also don't spend as much time in that part of the city anymore, and there are simply too many other places I still want to try. Unfortunately, while there was some good-looking food on other tables, if a restaurant's claim of lasagna as its signature dish doesn't hold up, the first visit just didn't do enough to pull me back for a second chance.
