Let's face it: Proper Food is improperly priced for the FiDi working drone unless you're the C-suite type which means your admin is getting the food anyway, so what are you whining about? This is their second location, and I was somewhat underwhelmed by my experience at their other spot at the 100 1st Street. There was a lot of empty space on those shelves and even more apathy when I came in to buy a late lunch at half past one. So when I heard they opened on Montgomery in a sea of self-absorbed suits and geeks, I was initially hesitant. But I sharpened up this time and decided I'd go before the lunch rush at a little past 11AM. What a difference a couple of hours made as the shelves were fully stocked and the staff was perky and attentive. Choice was actually hard this time, but I decided to get the $13.95 Kale Salad with Achiote-Poached Prawns. What the hell is achiote? I didn't know, but I've been in a kale mood lately, so why not. Besides, I got seven of those suckers, somewhat congealed though the salad had a nice crunch thanks to the radish, jicama and toasted almonds. The kale was mixed with romaine, charred avocado and cotija cheese to make it a hearty portion, and the whole creation was tossed in a house-made lime vinaigrette. (photo: http://bit.ly/1Daf5Wl). That's a lot of fancy ingredients, so maybe the price wasn't too bad. Understand I'm usually satisfied with shards of iceberg lettuce and a splooge of 1,000 island dressing. Soup sounded good, but Proper Food can't just serve chicken noodle soup, it has to be Chicken Bone Broth Noodle Soup for $5.25 (photo: http://bit.ly/1VMwRFg). Call me a barbarian but I could have used more noodles in my cup. FOOD - 3 stars...high-end food with prices to match...I still don't know what achiote is AMBIANCE - 2.5 stars...very sterile-looking...no warmth SERVICE - 3.5 stars...better here than on 1st TOTAL - 3 stars...it's proper food alright but I may have fallen out of their target demo

Fall salad w/salmon: salmon, lettuces, pickled carrots, pecorino, mint, bulls blood, white balsamic, no pears, apples, almonds

Too much is not always a good thing. Browsing through Proper Food's menu online, I had a hard time picking a dish. I didn't want any farro, quinoa, noodles, almonds... basically any carb or nut. And I don't like savory and sweet mixed together. It proved to be a difficult feat when picking what I wanted for our office lunch last Friday, November 13th. *Fall salad with salmon: roasted fresh salmon, red leaf lettuce, romaine, pickled carrots, pecorino cheese, mint, bulls blood (microgreen), house-made white balsamic vinaigrette, no poached pears, golden apples, zesty almonds ($11.95) With all my modifications, I got the simpler salad that I wanted. The ingredients tasted fresh and I liked the lightness of the white balsamic. The salmon looked like a small serving, but it was actually a larger piece than I thought. Maybe because the salad was so big. Unfortunately, the salmon was a bit overcooked, so it was rather dry. Proper Foods is a good option if you like fancy salads with a lot of ingredients. But for me, I prefer the simpler salads in life.

Sweet Potato Enchiladas

My favorite lunch spot close to the office because service is fast and easy. They have a wide selection of food, from enchiladas, breakfast burritos, salads, rice bowls, and cookies. Here are my top favorites: 1. Chicken enchiladas - You get 3 chicken enchiladas. Made with shredded chicken and covered with red sauce and cheese and garnished with green onions. It comes with a side of sour cream and lettuce. Very tasty and filling! 2. Sweet potato enchiladas - Here's another great option if you're looking for an alternative to the chicken enchiladas. I recommend the sweet potato enchiladas. Similar to the chicken, you get 3 enchiladas with sweet potatoes, covered with red sauce and cheese, garnished with green onions. On the side you also get sour cream and lettuce. Cost about $10.80 after tax. If you want hot sauce, just ask and they give you 3-4 packs. 3. Nutella cookie - The Nutella cookie is so soft and chewy. It leaves you wanting more! How it works: First, pick what you'd like to eat from the selection of burritos, enchiladas, salads, etc. Next, bring it up the register and if it needs to be warmed up, it's free. Then you pay for it and you're on your way.

Such a huge serving of goat cheese! Must have been at least a teaspoon. A few cranberries on the bottom. SOOO generous!

Just got back to my desk and opened my Couscous & Spinach Salad w/ Chicken. Well, if you can call it a salad. As you can see by my photo it had MAYBE 3/4 of a tablespoon of goat cheese, and that's being generous. Came with some pine nuts. Had about 12 cranberries in there somewhere. Medium to smallish amount of spinach. Chicken and couscous were decent, hence the extra star. With so many other good salad places around this area, I won't settle on this stingy serving.

Before 8:30. Go. Or no breakfast for you - slim pickins after. Kudos for giving all leftovers to food banks on nightly basis.

Calamari and black quinoa salad. Could have done with more of the veggie part.

Ok, second shot - same rating. This time I got a "salad" of calamari a la plancha with black quinoa, asparagus, feta and beans. (I don't know why they even mention the beans, because there were probably five in there total?) Unfortunately the calamari was a little fishy tasting - either not fresh or not cooked quite right. (Still edible, but I wouldn't get it again.) The quinoa and asparagus were fresh and well cooked. The feta was barely detectable, maybe a tablespoon or less. Unfortunately I didn't love the dressing, either. It tasted like tangy buttermilk and not citrus/coriander as described. Personally, I would love to see more vegetables and greens in the salads here. It seems those are actually the least represented ingredients (meanwhile, there's a ton of quinoa), but since they're the healthiest I would prefer a flipped ratio. I probably sound like a whiny, picky eater. But don't I have the right to be, when I am paying $14 for a pre-made, take-away salad? (Note: I do appreciate that Proper Food wrote back after my first review and seems to take customer comments seriously. Hopefully this will help them improve!)

I am a big fan of Proper Food. Delicious, tasty food and reasonable portions. The chicken cous cous and the nutella cookie are favorites.

Excellent service! My only advice is to come and see for yourself. When we called to ask about a…read morewait, they mentioned there was not wait... part of the reason they do that is because they don't keep a list. You either have reservations or you're a walk in and you stand in line until a table is available for you. At first this was strange, but I think it makes for a better experience. The team was incredible, they were so kind on a day that can be stressful for a small restaurant. We had incredible food. I was so happy to get my Eggs Royale and my husband said the French toast was the best he's ever had. (Even comparing it to French toast in Paris) No notes. This will be our Mother's Day place going forward next time with reservations.

My partner and I decided to go to the city one weekend and decided we wanted brunch. After looking…read morethrough some place, we came across Sisterita and it looked very promising. It seems like this place is an asian fusion brunch place incorporating french dishes into thai/asian themed dishes which is up our alley. We made a reservation at 1:45 PM and we had to wait for about an extra 30 minutes before getting seated. Initially, I wanted to try their crab fried rice but unfortunately they were out of crab. We decided to get the Alcatraz Escape and the Brioche french toast which were recommended by the wait staff. The staff was generally friendly and accommodating but I can tell they were swamped and stressed out with all the people they were trying to serve. The food itself tasted decent, the Alcatraz Escape had a tasty flavor which incorporates tom yum paste (sweet, sour, tangy flavor) into their scramble with about 4 shrimps. The side of crispy chicken was good but nothing that stood out to us. The brioche was soft but there wasn't much flavoring besides the fruits and caramelized banana. It was served with evaporated milk which made the brioche soft but not adding much flavor to it. The price however was quite pricey. For two dishes as a side we paid around $78 with tax and tip.
