Solid Tex Mex spot right outside the loop. Ask for Shea - he's an excellent server! We went two Sundays in a row and everything was consistent. Randomly found this place and wanted to give it a try. Large space indoors and they have outdoor seating as well. They're able to accommodate large groups. Our server, Shea, was so helpful in guiding us through the menu and giving us his recommendations. He highly recommended the white queso and it did not disappoint. This is a must have appetizer. Their chips are thin and freshly made. He also recommended the Del Mar combo. Recommend the Del Mar combo and Tio Chito's combo enchiladas. Del Mar combo includes - seafood enchilada, shrimp taco, 3 bacon-wrapped shrimp, rice and beans. Tio Chito's combo enchiladas include two of your choice. I chose Nick's classic and seafood enchilada. Both delicious and would recommend. Cancun trio and taco flight were decent and filling. Cancun trio could be shared by two people, but if you're pretty hungry it can be eaten by one person. The taco flight was filling, but not my favorite. It's good for someone who wants to try three different tacos. The swirl margarita was strong, yet sweet. Would recommend if you like frozen margaritas. My husband and I decided to try this spot and it didn't disappoint. The ambiance was beautiful and welcoming. The complimentary chips and salsa were perfect, and they also provided a small queso on the house which I thought was very kind. The staff were so kind, especially our waitress. My daughter and I tried out La Viva Tex Mex restaurant yesterday. It was fantastic! The service was fantastic, our waiter Samuel was the best! The food was excellent.! I had the la Viva famous chicken enchiladas with the avocado sauce and my daughter had a seafood combo. We both enjoyed Micheladas. They were cold and delicious! Unfortunately, I knocked over a glass of water on our waiter, Samuel! He was very cordial about it and wouldn't let us get up until he mopped the floor around us so we wouldn't slip. Now that's great service! I highly recommend this restaurant for its food, its ambience, and its wonderful staff! We'll be back!! read more

We had the best time at La Viva on Tuesday. We were skeptical because it was not packed when we went at 6 on taco Tuesday but everything we had was delicious and we thoroughly enjoyed the happy hour margaritas and queso. We had been looking for a place with fresh chips and white queso and these were delicious. The margaritas are fresh, real fruit flavoring, and strong. I got the steak fajitas and they were cooked perfectly and well seasoned. My friend got the chicken tinga and said it transported her back to her childhood and she has been looking for chicken Tinga as good as she would have growing up and this came near perfectly close. Ordered fajitas for group catering and they indictable packaged each person's meal with rice beans, toppings, salsa, tortillas, and chips. I've never seen this (usually everything comes in a huge aluminum pan). I loved how easy it was to feed everyone and it was also a built in to go box for your personal leftovers. I could've done without the chips in a dozen little ziplocs (seemed like a waste of plastic, just have them in one big bag). They were very generous with their tortillas (each ziploc had 3). The food was good! Rice and beans were probably the weakest link in the entire meal (beans were tasteless and rice could've had a hint of more seasoning). Our waitress was also outstanding! I was confused though about the happy hour prices. Why were they the same as the regular menu appetizer prices?? This place is a Hidden Gem it's been open a year and I can't believe I haven't been here. The food is very authentic I had the chicken tinga tacos and they were very yummy and the rice and beans are extremely tex-mex. The margaritas are priced lower than most of the places around here so I definitely will come back as the food is good the service is fantastic and I am sure the margaritas will not disappoint. Weeknight meal when we were in the neighborhood. Our waitress was kind and helpful. The ambiance is that of a nice cafe, lighting was a bit brighter. We had the Cabo special and split it, and added two side salads (off the menu, tasty) and a watermelon margarita. Food was delicious! The margarita was not exactly my fave but probably more of a preference. The salads were surprisingly filling. The chips were warm and salsa both warm and smoky. We came for a few drinks at an off time. We tried to sit at the bar with my daughter but was asked to move to a table. Opps I didn't know kids were not allowed at the bar. It's the law though. We had a few appetizers and a few drinks and called it a day. I liked the taste of everything but the set up at the restaurant is still off to me. I think it's still got that Berryhill feel. Saw a new spot was coming to the old Berry Hill and was excited to see it was a Mexican restaurant. After scoping the menu, decided to try their happy hour on a Friday evening. Arrived around 5 PM and was able to get seated right away. Server was very enthusiastic to take our order, we had to let her know we wanted to enjoy our drinks first before ordering. The happy hour drink menu is nice as well as the food options. Ceviche is only think I wouldn't get again. It's small and not worth $13. By the time we left around 6:30 there was a line out the door. Starting with this sweet, precious server, Shea, who was so nice, attentive and helpful and then to the thin, crispy chips and wonderfully smoky salsa, we were off to a great start. Got my standard order of cheese enchiladas, which ranked pretty high on the scale. Tex-mex, but that's what I like! Cheesy, with a bit of chile on top and a bit of chopped onions, tomatoes and crumbly cheese. Decent rice, beans could have used a tiny tad more bit of salt but still good. Spouse had the La Viva chicken enchiladas with the green sauce and he was really happy with those. I would have chosen the creamy avacado sauce but it's nice to have those options. Absolutely one of my fav restaurants in Houston. Oscar and Junior were working and they're both great, but Oscar is next level good, he's a rare find. I felt welcomed here immediately, and this was my first visit! Food is fresh, margs are great, and I couldn't be happier. Wow! So this used to be a Berry Hill but now it's been taken over by La Viva. It was packed when we went as they recently just opened and it was great! There is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating and the food was really good as well. I was told that the owner used to work at Pappasitos so the flavors were great! Let's start with the margarita, I am a margarita snob. The consistency has to be smooth and I don't like those cheap lime mixes. This place has a pretty decent margarita and is strong! I would rate it an 8/10. The chips weren't my favorite, they were kinda stale and I like less salt and oil so there I give a 5/10 but the red salsa was fresh and flavorful so I give that a 9/10. The 7 layer dip and the queso were creamy and good and those get a 8/10 and the guacamole gets a 7/10. The fajita meat was so tender and soft and the tortillas were great as well so that plate gets an 8/10 because I also take into account the rice and beans that were just not the greatest but still good. There is plenty of parking and the service and vibes were great so all that gets a 10/10 for me. Overall this is a great new spot in the neighborhood and I will for sure go back!! read more

I have to give this place 5 stars because our first experience here was awesome. My husband and I dined in with 4 friends. Upon arrival, we were asked if it was our first time at La Viva. We said yes, and they gave us a small white queso on the house. I was already impressed! Valeria was our server and she was excellent. She was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and was able to give good recommendations. I split the fajitas for one with a friend, but I would recommend getting it for two if you're really hungry. We were overall satisfied with the food and the margaritas. We just moved to the area a month ago and we've already identified this place as our new staple Tex Mex spot. A very important void to fill and they have the title. Margaritas are top notch. No complaints there. We've only eaten tapas style and liked everything we got. Appetizer trio, emphasis on the 7 layer dip. Diablo Shrimp is super tasty and unique, you don't see a dish like that at many Tex Mex restaurants. We especially liked the Beef Brochette, so much we ordered a second round (even though we probably didn't have room for it). We really look forward to trying everything else the menu has to offer. It's not to be taken for granted that their chips and salsa is so well done. The chips are nice and thin, and the salsa is legitimately high quality, which again, I appreciate. Chips and salsa (and queso, which is also great here) are like the trailers before a movie - if the trailers are good then chances are the movie ought to be good. Junior has taken care of us both times and we liked how friendly and accommodating he was. My only constructive criticism is the lighting. It's pretty bright in the bar area particularly. That's the only place we've sat so can't speak to the open floor. Kind of makes it less intimate and cozy. Will definitely be going again soon! read more

wow. service was unbelievable! we had the happy hour margaritas and the seven layer dip. we thought we couldn't eat anymore, but the crispy tacos kept calling to us. I hate crispy tacos that fall apart, are super greasy, or have so much stuff on them that you can't take a bite. These were perfect. No grease, slightly spiced, and just enough toppings that i could eat them without having to get a fork or spoon to finish them. Charros were very nice too! Only drawback (and it's just a little one), they kept pushing us to order and move on, I guess cause there was a line. I wanted to relax and slowly sip my margarita but I kept being asked every 3-5 minutes if we could order. After having been to La Viva several times since opening, after tonight's dinner I felt it was time for an updated review. First, if you are looking for solid Tex-Mex fare in the heart of Oak Forest, this is the place. Don't expect haute cuisine. This is high quality TexMex, the kind you've been waiting all week to get in your mouth. Want a tasty Rita that reminds you that Rita's are full of tequila (yes they have stepped up their Rita game)? This is the place. The fajita meat has a great flavor and is always tender. Don't worry about stringy pieces that pull all the meat out of the tortilla. The white queso is so good I have one at dinner and order a large to go to have for the next few days. I think maybe there is room to improve the bar - maybe add a divider to separate it from the entry and add a few more bar tables - something to make it feel it is its own area instead of an extension of the entry.
