Looking for a post-work dinner spot in the West Loop with great food and availability on a short notice, I was excited that La Serre still had available reservations because its French-inspired menu sounded delicious. When we arrived for our reservation, we waited a couple of minutes before we were greeted and then seated at our booth. The restaurant was bustling on a Monday evening, and it took a while (~20 minutes) for our server to finally take our drink orders. This gave us plenty of time to look over the menu and decide our food orders at least. For our party of three, we ordered the beef tartare and escargot to share and three individual entrees. Despite the long time it took to place our orders, our food was brought out quickly. This was my first time seeing escargot served without the shells; while this may have been easier to manage without the special escargot tongs and fork, it was difficult to capture the buttery garlic sauce that was trapped in the serving dish. Additionally, the escargot was served with only two small pieces of bread, which was not enough for the three of us to share. I ordered the scallops for my entree, and these were served over a creamy bed of artichoke puree with sweet roasted cherry tomatoes. The scallops were cooked perfectly, and the artichoke puree was a creative (and delicious) twist to one of my favorite types of seafood. I ordered a glass of sauvignon blanc to enjoy with my scallops, but the wine was so overwhelmingly sweet that I couldn't finish the glass. Despite these hiccups, the scallops made the experience worthwhile.
The restaurant has dim lighting, floral decor, but with upbeat nightlife music that gives it more of a night-out vibe than a romantic dinner spot. It was a little loud, but you could still carry a conversation comfortably. 8/10. Service was decent overall. 7/10. Our water sat empty for a while during the busy part of dinner, but once things slowed down they refilled it multiple times and never rushed us after we paid. The Espresso Martini was a solid classic. On the more bitter side, lightly sweet, and smooth without much alcohol burn. 6/10. The Truffle Brie Tart was flavorful. The cream center, sweet grilled onions, and light truffle shavings worked really well together. I just wish the tart shell had a crispier texture. 8/10. The Crispy Duck Breast had great flavor thanks to the hoisin sauce, and wrapping it with the French crêpes and pickled vegetables made every bite better. The duck itself wasn't actually very crispy though, so it was saved by the toppings/wrap. 7.5/10. The Truffle Gnocchi was rich and loaded with mushroom flavor. The gnocchi had a nice texture, but I was hoping for more truffle flavor. 7.5/10. The Hokkaido Scallops had a beautiful sear and paired nicely with the artichoke purée. The tomatoes and sourdough croutons tied everything together, although I wish the scallop actually tasted crispy. 7/10. Dessert was my favorite part. The Warm Apple Bread Pudding reminded me of a lava cake filled with warm apple pie filling, topped with ice cream and caramel sauce. It was definitely way too sweet, but such a comforting way to end the meal. 8.5/10. Overall, every dish had great flavor and was well executed. My only complaint was that several dishes leaned softer in texture than I prefer. Solid spot for a girls night out.
I have attempted to come here twice for their special bar menu. I arrived right when they opened both times. The 1st time was a Friday and it was so packed I couldn't get a seat but when I tried again on a Tuesday I had no problem. So be aware the bar can get super crowded heading into the weekend. Some friend and I initially were draw to la Serra for the essentials special which is a martini, fries and a ceasar salad for $19. One of my friends got that but the rest of us ended up just getting drinks, sliders and truffle fries. The drinks are all $9 and the mini sliders are $6. I would say that the drinks are worth it but the sliders were very small. Even thought they were supposed to be mini I would say $6 was still pricy for how small they were. I had the mini lobster roll and the French dip roll. The lobster roll needed more meat and more mayo. It was a bit dry and sad looking. The French dip was okay but I wish it came with a dipping sauce. The bar is very cool and modern looking and it is a great place for a quick after work drink and snack with friends or coworkers if you are in the West Loop.
We recently visited La Serre for dinner as a party of 10. The restaurant has a beautiful ambiance inside, though larger parties are seated on the outer side. It was very busy that evening, and we had to wait a while for our order to be taken and for the food to arrive. The cocktails were excellent. For food, I tried the mini lobster roll, crab croquette, whipped potato, grilled asparagus, and crab spaghetti - all delicious. I really enjoyed the meal. Crab croquettes were my favourite. Since our group included several vegetarians, they had a harder time ordering due to the limited options. Overall, I'd go again for the ambience and drinks.
Ugh I'm so torn. The food was better than I expected (the truffle gnocchi was to die for, and I'm not a gnocchi girl) and the general manager of the night went above and beyond to make my mom feel special and taken care of for her 60th birthday. ....but the atmosphere was not it. I booked this restaurant thinking that it was going to be an intimate, quiet experience with soft music being played in the background. It was so loud we could barely hear one another and they were playing club music (??) it made it really difficult to have any sort of meaningful conversation. So yeah this is why I'm torn. Seriously if it wasn't for the music and such this would've been rated much higher :')
The service here is on point, but overly rushed (Maybe because they are always busy). But felt a little please eat fast and leave because we have a long list of people waiting. The food was okay, tad over price (expected) however quality needed to match on the pricing. It was an interesting experience, however wouldn't come back again, there are other places that are on point on the same fulton market than this place. Good job, but it requires some more improvements :(
This place was gorgeous!!! We went for the bar bites and girl dinner special that was $19 that included a martini, truffle fries, & Caesar salad -- such a good deal and salad and fries were so good! Unfortunately the lobster slider wasn't good, it was mainly filled with celery instead of lobster and the oysters weren't fresh, seemed like they were placed into the shells. We ended up staying for dinner and enjoyed the mussels and bacon pasta! Would definitely go back off of the vibes alone. Our server at our dinner was very attentive and throughly went through the menu and gave all of his recommendations which were perfect.
We had a reservation for a Friday night and were seated right away. It was extremely busy and the noise level was absolutely obscene - the music was blaring like we were clubbing and not trying to enjoy a convo over our meal... another yelper wrote "more duck face than duck", which made me laugh because that's definitely the vibe. The decor was stunning though. For drinks, La Serre's cocktail menu had a lot of interesting choices but I went with the Bordeaux sour and was not disappointed. The menu also had so many enticing food options, my friends and I decided to go tapas style and ordered: 1. Mussels (10/10) - flavorful & delicious 2. Escargot (6/10) - we all agreed a miss 3. French Onion Fondue (10/10) - cheese, caramelized onions, and bread, what's not to love?! 4. Scallops (8/10) - perfectly cooked scallops, wonderful flavor but nothing else really on the plate for $40 5. Chocolate tart for dessert (10/10) - would do again Service was pretty good, a little bit of a slow start but it got better. Also, our waitress knew we were splitting all of our dishes between 3 people and didn't ask if we wanted to add another scallop to make 6. Sometimes it's the little things. I did like the convenience of paying the bill either through your server or by QR code. Definitely expect West Loop prices but they do have a happy hour Sun-Friday 5-6:30 pm.
From delicious bites to beautiful decor and a friendly staff, La Serre is a classy yet welcoming addition to West Loop! Aside from a delicious looking regular menu, they boast a happy hour that should definitely make it onto your short list of hot spots. At 5pm on a weeknight, it was pleasantly chatty and already filling up, making for a great spot to catch up with friends after work. My friend and I started with the French 75 to drink, which was refreshing and not too sweet. We also split the tuna tartare and truffle brie tart, which were both delicious. The fish was super fresh and paired really well with the crispy lavash. It had more of a ceviche vibe, so if you're into that you'll like this dish. The tart was super flaky, buttery, and airy- I loved the addition of honey that created the perfect sweet and savory flavor. Would absolutely order again. It's safe to say I will be back soon and highly encourage others to pay a visit!
There are too many things that went wrong on my last visit to La Serre and I was contemplating if I should put up my honest review or not but I decided to go for it. We were a group of 10 people that visited La Serre for Friday night dinner, we had prior reservations but still were asked to wait almost 20 mins as the table was not ready. The table that we were placed at was very tight for 10 people and people at the corner were definitely struggling. After being seated at the table, our server took 10 mins to finally come to us and take the order. I want to mention that most of my review points deducted are being of the hospitality and service. The server was extremely rude to me when I answered to her question if someone had allergies with saying that some of us are vegetarians. I was speaking for the entire table and wanted to make sure dietary restrictions are honored. The server mocked me saying that being vegetarian is not an allergy. Despite of this snarky behavior, she was in general very chaotic and her behavior was just a bit weird in general. For food, we ordered a bunch of things - crispy fritters, house bread served with pesto butter, gnocchi, rigatoni, french onion fondue, mashed and the radiator pasta. The pesto gnocchi was very weird, it felt like the pesto wasn't mixed well with the overall dish and felt very earthy in taste. Radiator pasta was we the only dish on the menu that I really liked. For deserts we ordered the banana cream pie and chocolate tart and both were average. We ordered a lot of cocktails and drinks as well, everyone absolutely loved the truffle old fashioned, it was a meh for me as I am not a huge fan! Overall, I would have considered to revisit as the cocktails and ambiance were good but based on poor service and hospitality, this place is not a consideration for me going forward!

La Serre is one of our favorite restaurants we always come here for the leek and eggplant fritters, the half roasted chicken-- always so juicy, perfectly cooked and flavorful and they have one of our favorite desserts in the city their Brûléed French Toast with cinnamon gelato! The French onion fondue is delicious as well, if you like French onion soup it's almost like a dip/spread version of that on French bread. Service is always great and the ambience is always nice. We've brought family here and they loved it. Please bring back the dry aged steak! read more

La Serre was a spot we booked to go to after the tree lighting in the loop. It was a wonderfully amazing spot! Our server was great and all the food was delicious. We got two appetizers to start: the French onion dip and the escargot. I would for sure recommend that! My boyfriend and I got the Duck Chinoise which was similar to Chinese style Peking duck. It was all very delicious! I would for sure recommend this spot for a date night. read more
The ambiance was so cute- girly, florals, pink and purple, what's not to like? Our waitress was great, and was the bartender as well! We started with cocktails of course and then tried an item from each section of the menu- appetizers, small plates, dips, steak and more! All was fantastic! Came here for a team dinner and everyone had rave reviews! Service was top notch and very attentive, and the food was super tasty. There was something for everyone on the menu! Can't go wrong with the fondue, fritters, and the caviar nest pasta. Solid wine list , too! read more

An absolutely amazing dinner! My boyfriend and I recently had our date night here and we were blown away. First, I would absolutely recommend the caviar nest! The pasta was soooo rich and buttery. Though the portion was on the smaller size, it was so filling. I would also recommend getting the smallest amount of caviar - any more and I could imagine it overpowering the pasta. We also ordered the duck which was an insanely huge serving. It came with some crepes and veggies on the side and it was incredible. For dessert, we got the french toast with a brûlée exterior. It was so gooey on the inside and the cinnamon ice cream was a perfect pairing. I would come back in a heartbeat! read more

I am still dreaming about the pasta I had from here last night!!! I got the linguine and clams and it was probably the best linguine I've ever had. The sauce was really good and tons of clams in the dish. Appears small upon delivery but was just enough for me as we got appetizers also. My friend got the duck and it was incredible highly recommend and could also feed 3 if wanted to. The service was incredible and Cheryl took great care of us. The food came out pretty quick. Highly recommend the escargot for an appetizer. The restaurant is beautiful and definitely an "instagram worthy" picture spot. It was loud but I didn't mind it. If don't care for loud, I would suggest getting there for a late dinner after 8-830. We sat in a booth near kitchen so that might be why was a loud area also. I did notice they have outside seating I think so that would be a good option next time weather permitting. read more

Delicious restaurant in the West Loop area. Went with a group to celebrate birthdays and what a fun place to celebrate! They came out with sparklers on the desert! A little pricey, but worth it for high quality food and a nice splurge on a celebration. Drinks were also delicious. Only feedback I would give is the food took a bit longer than the typical time to come out, especially for a slower Sunday, but at least it tasted great once it arrived! read more
Came here last night for my 21st birthday and it was the most amazing meal. I made a reservation beforehand and was treated so nicely by our hostess and our amazing waiter the whole night. Service was top notch. Ambiance was one of the best I've ever experienced and everything inside felt like I was in a garden in the best way. This restaurant has a lot of French and Mediterranean cuisine combined and it was all so delicious. If I had to recommend one thing, it would definitely have been the mussel dish for the appetizer. Out of this world. My favorite pasta was probably the gnocchi and the filet was great. 10/10 would recommend if you're in Chicago. I'm for sure coming back! read more
Absolutely adore La Serre as the latest addition to Fulton Market. This chic, floral fun filled modern restaurant offers a wide variety of European fare, and I cannot wait to try them all. This time I had the fhe Half Roasted Chicken and dunked the savory chicken jus with the bread service. Wonderful idea. Not to mention the pillowy Brûléed French Toast was an excellent way to end a very tasty meal! read more

Came here last night with 3 girlfriends to celebrate our birthdays. Everything was exceptional! The ambiance, the service, the food! We shared everything and it was delicious! We got the Gnocchi, the chicken, the NY strip, asparagus, and the frites. It's absolutely beautiful inside and great for pictures! For my drink I got the Versailles and it was delicious! read more

A newer picturesque restaurant to Fulton Market, located right above Bar La Rue is La Serre. When you first walk onto you're greeted with a selfie mirror and a beautiful stairway that leads up to the restaurant. The stairway had a picture that splits up with each step leading the way up to the restaurant. We were seated, and greeted by our host of the night, Denice. I started with the French 94. It was the perfect drink to kick off spring. It was light, and refreshing. Bread service quickly came out after drinks arrived and Denice gave us the rundown of the menu. Telling us about the incredible boeuf options, to the various entree plates while sharing her highly recommended dishes, going back to the salads, crus, petites, and ending with the amuse. Letting us know that the amuse are individual plates and are meant to be eaten as a pre appetizer, or an appeteaser as she called it. After hearing it all, we decided to share and try a variety of items. Starting with the amuse, the options included crab croquette, truffle tater tot, and duck profiterole. Of the three my favorite was the crab croquette, it had jumbo lump crab, béchamel, and espelette pepper. The flavors were incredible, the creaminess with the béchamel made me want more with each bite. We also tried the French onion fondue which was essentially French onion soup in dip form. It came with a side of sour dough bread. I didn't want to get too full on just bread so I ended up breaking the center and it actually was perfect with the fondue to enjoy. The caramelize onion and cheese was full of flavor and the perfect mix of sweet and cheesy. Moving on to the cru plates, we tried the beef tartare and the tuna crudo. The beef tartare was great, it came with slices of bread. But the tuna crundo was the highlight of the night for me. The slices of tuna were topped with caviar, and had a tomato, shallot and yuzu sauce that was absolutely to die for. While the tartare was great, I ended up taking the break and soaking it in the sauce of the crudo because it was that great. For our pasta plates we tried the gnocchi, and the roasted tomato chablisienne. The gnocchi was tossed in a basil pistou, sundried tomatoes, and pine nuts. While the flavor of the pesto was delightful, I thought the plate needed a bit more of a crunch. (I didn't get a full plate picture as the pasta was serve to us by the incredible waiters). The roasted tomato pasta was so good. The tomato creme sauce with the crispy part of the bacon made each bite full of flavor and wanting more. The half roasted chicken, of which they cut table side to split the wing, the white meat and the dark meat. It came with a lemon garlic confit that was incredible. I could eat spoonfuls of the sauce. The chicken was moist and full of flavor with and without the sauce, but so much better with it. The duck chinoise is large enough for folks to share, paired crepes and vegetables to be able to make essentially a duck taco. The duck jus was delish, and made each bite better than the last. During our dinner service Denice came by multiple times to check on us and make sure we had everything we needed. She even showed us the proper techniques to enjoy the duck. The guys also did an incredible job of keeping our tables clear refilling water as I was drinking. There was never a moment we were left thirsty. To end the night, we shared the apple tart and the chocolate crepes. We definitely were stuffed but there's always room for dessert right? Or at least that's what we tell ourselves. While we waited for desserts, Denice gave us warm towels to clean our hands. Which was super helpful after the duck tacos made our hands a bit sticky. The towels were lavender scented and really tied the floral together. Dessert came out shortly after. She offer post dinner drinks, and we got a shot of espresso. It came with raw sugar and a tiny spoon to mix in should we choose. The apple tart was light and crispy and the caramel on the ice cream made each bite so worth being extra full for. The hazelnut crepes were delish as well, I only took a few bites of that before we needed to pack the rest to take home. The chocolate within the crepe and the crispiness of the hazelnuts on top and within the crepe made it stand out from other traditional crepes I've had elsewhere. Before taking off, I stopped to use the restroom. And let me just say it was stunning. The stalls were clean and the wallpaper truly matched the aesthetic of the restaurant. The gold/brass antique style bathroom essentials really tired the handwashing station together as well. The trash can even matched. I also have to point out that they have a la Serre branded candle which kept the bathroom smelling fresh. All in all, we had an incredible time. I can see why this place is hyped up-it's definitely worth a visit! Had a reservation at 8:15 pm and was seated on time. Our server was also very helpful with recommendations. We ended up going with the roasted escargot, linguine & clams, and the caviar nest, all of which were hands down some of the best dishes I've had in a while. The Queen Marie cocktail was also a hit. Overall great food and aesthetics, only downside would be how loud it can get where it's actually difficult to even hear the person in front of you. read more

The atmosphere was beautiful, lots of floral, gold, and bright notes. Staff was polite and professional. Food was delivered in a timely manner. The desserts were okay..the rice pudding reminded me of arroz con leche I used to eat as a child. The seafood tower was good, just a little small on the portions for the price of seafood in the area..the duck was delicious, done table side, the crepes were light and flavorful..the chili sauce was the added heat it needed. Would definitely go back for just that. Overall the meal was good but did not wow us, especially for the price we paid vs food cost of them actual items. read more

My husband and I had such a great dinner here for our 3rd anniversary. The service was super attentive and all the courses were timed well. We started with bottle of Cote du Rhône which was room temperature and needed to be cooled a bit but it was still good. For food, we got two amuses - duck profiterole and the crab croquette. We should have gotten two of the duck because that was an incredible bite. Don't miss out on that. Next, we had the mussels, French onion fondue, and tuna. All were exactly what we wanted and had so much flavor. Every bite was seasoned perfectly. The only disappointment was the bacon pasta. The pasta was overcooked and too soft and mushy. We were offered a complimentary dessert and picked the French toast with vanilla and cinnamon. It was a great ending to a delicious meal. We will definitely be back. read more

Not worth the hype at all. Decor was horrible, not sure who thought floral Sage Green nursing home motif with all plastic flowers all over the place was "cute" felt like a Florida nursing home. Food: Salty. Does the chef smoke cigars because every single item was salted to death, I never complain about salt! The French Onion reduced soup was salty and the bread was just too hard, like others complained. The crab croquette, not exaggerating, were the size of a tatter tot 2 bites or less ($11) I got 2 for $22 I just feel cheated there period. Signature filet (still over salted piece of meat) was a decent cut of meat and was actually cook perfectly like the rest of the food, but the flavor profile was just salty in general. Dessert was the French toast crème brûlée was the best thing about the entire meal. The service like everyone said was great and attentive, we had a fun waitress. $250 later, would I come again? NO I have to say something about the horrible uniforms, long sleeve in the summer, and they look uncomfortable and just an ugly color and horrible tailoring.... read more

WoW! WoW... WoW! Where do I start? Okay! Calm down! Start at the beginning! Located at Green & Fulton Market is this STAND OUT EATERY that is not only a feast for your empty stomachs, it's a feast for your eyes, soul & mind! I immediately was transported back to the French Riviera! (Monaco, Cannes). It's a beautiful place filled with fresh flowers, rich textures, beautiful cocktail servers with large flower facades, &, the air filled with delicious smells of something good was in store for us! We were seated immediately! *Make a reservation! It's the new "hot spot" that offers a rooftop, too, as well as an outdoor feel with soaring ceilings & plenty of windows! Greeted by a stunning cocktail server offering glasses of bubbles (champagne) as we settled in for dinner. (The were 8 of us). The menu is a twist of French Mediterranean fare... it was hard to decide! La Serre also offers an enormous "Muse Bouche" (one bite) style raw bar to start you off. All the "gifts" from the sea are displayed! (Cracked stone crab claws, peeled shrimp, individual crab legs, oysters...) You like truffles? Order an old fashioned! Shaved black truffle, table side with it! I'm at sensory overload but in a "Willy Wonka meets Alice in Wonderland way!" *Visually speaking! Our orders were taken & I asked our server to "surprise me" bc I couldn't decide. **PLEASE! Don't ask for separate checks... it slows the server down as well as affects the dining experience for other guests!** We were allowed to head back to the raw bar at leisure but don't fill up & you don't want to be gone too long. You may miss something at another table & say "why didn't I order that!" Having just opened, our experience couldn't have gone better! Smooth transitions from the moment we walked in! The food... in a word, Transformative! Beautiful. Artistic. Delicious! Me... I was surprised with the Dover Sole. Deboned table-side for me then covered with capers & croutons! Such a pleasant surprise! Ribeye... cut table-side then offered Au Pouive or with TRUFFLE! Both, please! The cocktails are whimsical. Great wine list with deep runs. Food is spectacular & the service is excellent! Go. Go. GO SOON & experience La Serre before it books months out! read more

Food and drinks were all very good, met minimum "fancy place" standards of tasting good. We didn't order any steak but thought the pasta mains weee solid, could have been a bit more memorable though. read more

The ambiance is super cute! We loved the pink, greenery, gold, with light wood vibe. Food was fabulous & unique! Take aways: - Crudo was super fresh. I could have ordered another round! - French Onion Fondue was very cheesey and tasted just like a French Onion soup but without the broth. It was a table hit. - Scallops are new to the menu and they were fire! They were also huge (which is rare). We loved the deep red pepper sauce that came with it. - Gnocchi were fluffy and just melted in your mouth - Filet...delicious! Must get beef here. - Dover was prepared table side, but it was dark for him to see so we had to help give him light (we didn't want the bones in our dish). Very good as well! - French Toast dessert were better than the crepes in my opinion. But if you have a large group you'll need to order more than one. Delicious but small! Service knew exactly how to explain each dish beautifully. The manager was also so kind to comp a dessert dish for us. I will definitely be back to try more seafood & their "famous" Cote de Boeuf. read more
The food was excellent! We had the tuna crudo, fritters, crab croquette, sea bass, trufffle gnocchi, and cauliflower gratin. Everything was truly amazing except the cauliflower gratin. I found it to be bland. The server was a bit icy. She was very knowledgeable and helpful about the menu, but before we had ordered appetizers I was asking a few questions and she rushed me off saying she would be back to take our order. (Ummm fine but I wanted to ask the questions before we decided???) The biggest service faux pas and why we gave 3 stars is that she knew it was my birthday and when I asked her to take a photo of my husband and I she said "give me a moment" and never came back! When she did finally come back with our check (which was very slow) she never acknowledged the request for a photo. A full 20 minutes had passed. It was my birthday and I didn't get a photo with my husband at dinner aside from a selfie. Not cool. It's the extra touch that makes someone's day special and she has a lot to learn. read more

A terrible experience. 7:15pm reservation on a Sunday night and the table was ready at 8:10pm-photo for proof. There is nowhere to sit and wait. There is no elevator to go up 3 flights of stairs in heels. They didn't check in with us one time to let us know any progress or say "sorry it's taking so long".
