Mini lobster rolls
Debangana S.

We recently visited La Serre for dinner as a party of 10. The restaurant has a beautiful ambiance inside, though larger parties are seated on the outer side. It was very busy that evening, and we had to wait a while for our order to be taken and for the food to arrive. The cocktails were excellent. For food, I tried the mini lobster roll, crab croquette, whipped potato, grilled asparagus, and crab spaghetti - all delicious. I really enjoyed the meal. Crab croquettes were my favourite. Since our group included several vegetarians, they had a harder time ordering due to the limited options. Overall, I'd go again for the ambience and drinks.

Ugh I'm so torn. The food was better than I expected (the truffle gnocchi was to die for, and I'm not a gnocchi girl) and the general manager of the night went above and beyond to make my mom feel special and taken care of for her 60th birthday. ....but the atmosphere was not it. I booked this restaurant thinking that it was going to be an intimate, quiet experience with soft music being played in the background. It was so loud we could barely hear one another and they were playing club music (??) it made it really difficult to have any sort of meaningful conversation. So yeah this is why I'm torn. Seriously if it wasn't for the music and such this would've been rated much higher :')

The service here is on point, but overly rushed (Maybe because they are always busy). But felt a little please eat fast and leave because we have a long list of people waiting. The food was okay, tad over price (expected) however quality needed to match on the pricing. It was an interesting experience, however wouldn't come back again, there are other places that are on point on the same fulton market than this place. Good job, but it requires some more improvements :(

We had a reservation for a Friday night and were seated right away. It was extremely busy and the noise level was absolutely obscene - the music was blaring like we were clubbing and not trying to enjoy a convo over our meal... another yelper wrote "more duck face than duck", which made me laugh because that's definitely the vibe. The decor was stunning though. For drinks, La Serre's cocktail menu had a lot of interesting choices but I went with the Bordeaux sour and was not disappointed. The menu also had so many enticing food options, my friends and I decided to go tapas style and ordered: 1. Mussels (10/10) - flavorful & delicious 2. Escargot (6/10) - we all agreed a miss 3. French Onion Fondue (10/10) - cheese, caramelized onions, and bread, what's not to love?! 4. Scallops (8/10) - perfectly cooked scallops, wonderful flavor but nothing else really on the plate for $40 5. Chocolate tart for dessert (10/10) - would do again Service was pretty good, a little bit of a slow start but it got better. Also, our waitress knew we were splitting all of our dishes between 3 people and didn't ask if we wanted to add another scallop to make 6. Sometimes it's the little things. I did like the convenience of paying the bill either through your server or by QR code. Definitely expect West Loop prices but they do have a happy hour Sun-Friday 5-6:30 pm.

The best deal in Chicago!

Gorgeous space. Amazing deal at the bar- $19 martini, truffle fries and Caesar salad. Absolute must.

Tuna tartare

From delicious bites to beautiful decor and a friendly staff, La Serre is a classy yet welcoming addition to West Loop! Aside from a delicious looking regular menu, they boast a happy hour that should definitely make it onto your short list of hot spots. At 5pm on a weeknight, it was pleasantly chatty and already filling up, making for a great spot to catch up with friends after work. My friend and I started with the French 75 to drink, which was refreshing and not too sweet. We also split the tuna tartare and truffle brie tart, which were both delicious. The fish was super fresh and paired really well with the crispy lavash. It had more of a ceviche vibe, so if you're into that you'll like this dish. The tart was super flaky, buttery, and airy- I loved the addition of honey that created the perfect sweet and savory flavor. Would absolutely order again. It's safe to say I will be back soon and highly encourage others to pay a visit!

We decided to grab Friday night dinner at La Serre. We had a prior reservation and were a big party. They however, did not seat us even when majority of the party was present. It was so awkward to stand by the entrance with such a big group cz we were literally blocking the entrance. Once we were seated, we realized the table was too tight. The table was big enough for only 8 people but they somehow squeezed 10 people in. It was very uncomfortable for the people at the edge of the table (one of them being me). The ambience was a 10/10, it was chic, floral, upscale, exactly how I like it. The food was a 7/10. Some dishes stood out, whereas the others were meh. The menu is limited on vegetarian options but they do substitutions. Some callouts as a vegetarian: the house bread was great, the crispy fritters were my personal favorite of the night, the gnocchi was soft and pillowy, the rigatoni wasn't great and it strangely had elbow macaroni instead of rigatoni, French onion fondue was a bit too salty for me, the radiator pasta was decent according to me but my friends loved it, the chocolate tart was tasty but had more cream than chocolate and the banana cream pie was delicious. The service was very chaotic and I would give it a 3/10. The food and drinks took a very long time to come by. We were super hungry because we already had to wait a lot just to get the table and the food taking even longer made us hangry. The server was very strange and by strange I mean, her behavior and the way she was talking was a bit off putting. She very rude to a friend of mine at the table who happens to be a Yelp elite. The cocktails were great, the truffle old fashioned was the best old fashioned I have ever tasted, the la serre spritz was great too. The prices are on the higher end so gotta be mindful of that.

LaSerre is a fabulous Mediterranean restaurant in the West Loop of Chicago. Everything from the cocktails to the food to the service was amazing. Oscar was our host and took very good care of us, and the other staff members were on top of it all. I never had an empty water glass or dirty plate in front of me. We started with cocktails, an old-fashioned for him and a dirty martini for me. The bread service was a small baguette with salted butter and an olive tapenade. The knife was longer than the little loaf, though, but it was served warm. We shared the wagyu tartare to start. It was cubed tender beef with capers, dijonnaise, egg yolk and cornichons served with housemade potato chips. Pretty darn close to perfection. My hubby had the crispy duck breast in a soy garlic sauce served with crepes, lettuce leaves and pickled vegetables. He stuffed both the crepes and lettuce leaves with the sliced duck and veggies to make little handheld bites. So good. I had the truffle gnocchi with parmesan and black truffle. Amazing! It comes with oyster mushrooms but i asked for those to be nixed. The gnocchi were light and fluffy. My only complaint was there were only eight on the plate. A very small but delicious portion. We ended our meal by sharing the banana cream pie. Caramelized bananas, in a thick vanilla wafer crust sprinkled with banana chips - omgee! The manager Edgar came to check on us and was engaging and even tapped my phone with his business card to transfer his number so I would have it on hand. Nice! LaSerre is part of the DineAmic group with other good restaurants like Bar Sienna and Prime & Provisions. I agree with others that LaSerre has its music too loud and it was hard to hear across the table. However, it was a very delicious culinary night and I will return. This would be five stars if it wasn't for the loud music. It would be more romantic and special if you could hear your date. Also the small baguette and gnocchi portion size added to the 4 stars. A girl needs her carbs!

Came here on Saturday and they are pretty busy but so nice. Called over the phone for a bar saved for 7 of my girls and they went above and beyond. We tried their restaurant week deal and it was amazing! We all loved it and they also tailored it toward people who would have allergies. The ambiance inside was so nice and there was even a DJ. Waved at him and he waved back. The food was good for the price, loved their truffle fries and the courses I got was the tuna credo which was so flavorful and citrus flavored. Than got their mini lobster rolls which was amazing. Each came with a drink and we got the queen gambit and it was so refreshing. The last course was the chocolate tart dessert with an expresso martini and it was such a great combination and end to our meal. I want to say our bartender who took our orders and made sure everything was good was amazing!! She went above and beyond and we ask if she could do the sparkler for my friends birthday and it was amazing.

My experience here was wonderful! Attentive, quick service. Staff was very knowledgeable about the menu and was able to answer our questions. HIGHLY recommend getting a reservation for dinner as this place is always packed. I originally tried to come with just me and a girlfriend for their girl dinner (martini, fries, Cesar) but everyone else had that idea too and we left. When we came back for dinner on a double date, we had cocktails, oysters, pasta, duck special, and fries. Everything was tasted fantastic and came with beautiful presentation. I will be back for sure!

We had such a great experience at the restaurant last night! The food was absolutely delicious--everything we ordered was full of flavor and clearly made with care. The atmosphere was just as impressive, with a warm and inviting vibe that made it easy to relax and enjoy the evening. The highlight of our visit, though, was our server, Denise. She was truly outstanding--friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming from start to finish. She made sure we had everything we needed without ever being overbearing, and her positive energy really elevated the whole experience. It's rare to come across service that memorable, and Denise went above and beyond to make our night special. We'll definitely be coming back, and we hope to be lucky enough to have Denise again.

Potato skins

We've now been to La Serre multiple times since my first review, most recently this Friday night. I'll admit it was surprisingly easy to grab a last-minute reservation. That concerned me a little because this is still a very good restaurant and it deserves to be busy. Which it was. Must've been a lot of people like us that grab reservations last minute. The experience, was excellent. Service was top notch. Professional, polished, attentive. Exactly what you expect. We opted for wine by the glass instead of committing to a bottle, and the selection was strong. We both found something we genuinely enjoyed. We started with the "potato skins," which are nothing like TGI Friday's. These are elevated, delicate little bites topped with caviar. Small, refined, almost amuse-bouche style. My wife had the tuna tartare and the Dover sole. The tartare was fresh and clean, but the Dover sole is the absolute star of the show. It's exceptional every single time we order it. Perfectly cooked, buttery, balanced. It is the dish that keeps us coming back. I had the shrimp cocktail, which was solid but straightforward. No surprises, just a classic cocktail. My lamb chops were the star of my night. Cooked perfectly with a nice little kick of heat in the sauce, not overpowering and not timid. Just enough. Then a nice surprise at the end. Apparently my reservation app let them know it was my birthday week. We were not there to celebrate anything, just a Friday night out, but they brought us a complimentary dessert. Totally unnecessary but a classy touch. It was their French toast dessert which was delicious. I usually opt for a chocolate selection. But I was very happy with this. Overall, La Serre has been solid every single time we've gone. Consistency matters and they deliver it.

This year I was so excited to bring my family and Ema was the only restaurant in Chicago I couldn't wait for them to try. I booked it as our final meal in Chicago and lay awake at 4am being so disappointed in my choice. Our server's greeting was monotone and emotionless, which I realize now, would be foreshadowing the meal to come. Ordered the following 1) Smoky eggplant- arrived appearing as an unappetizing curdled purple grey mush. This was the worst tasting baba ghanouj I have ever eaten. It was acidic and had the texture of cottage cheese. The only redeeming thing about this appetizer was the warm naan. 2) house made stratciatella with side of green falafels- The stratciatella was bland and stringy. I would not order this dish expecting the creamy interior of typical burrata. However, if you like string cheese mixed with heavy cream- you may enjoy this dish. The tomatoes and basil were good. 3) chicken kefta- kefta was bland, rice even blander . 4) short rib with polenta- bland and the meat and polenta had the same texture, which seems impossible but somehow the plating was over complicated by the addition of mushy dates and grapes. 5) buttered noodles- my 8 year old ordered this. It was decent with a good amount of Parmesan and cooked perfectly al dente. By the end of the meal, I was so shocked by how terrible the food was I didn't even want to order the sticky date cake that was my main purpose for returning to this restaurant. Ema, what happened to you?!

I arrived 25 minutes later and they hadn't even made my order. From there, 3 different people told me it'll be another 5 minutes, 10 minutes, and 15 minutes. I ended up waiting 20 minutes and during that whole time there was no apology. One of the workers handed me a tea and later I saw they included dessert in the bag. It was a nice gesture but I was frustrated that it wasn't acknowledged by the staff at all and part of my order was still missing. I paid $2.25 for a Yogurt & Cucumber Sauce which I never received. The Caspian Mix Grill with Albaloo Polo was very good. The filet mignon & chicken breast were both juicy and well-seasoned. The Albaloo Polo is plain basmati rice mixed with saffron, caramelized onion and sauteed sweet & sour cherries. I liked the rice but it felt like they just threw the cherries on top rather than incorporate it into the rice. It was very filling, enough to share with 2 people, and good value. The Bamieh & Balava were also fresh, sweet, and a nice bite to end on. Ultimately, I would give the food a 4/5 and the service a 2/5, hence my 3/5 rating.

Nothing really went together and it was warm, which didn't make sense and made it worse. The steak was cooked how I asked, but the sauce was extremely oily and had this strange burnt flavor which likely was from the onions? The onions were extremely burnt, nothing like a typical caramelized delish onion. The chicken had the same issue, everything had that same burnt tasting oil and the chilies sitting in it just made it more intense. It was honestly just edible and nothing I would come back for or recommend. I love middle eastern food and know that even with a midwestern there are some considerations to take with the flavor profile but the burnt onions, burnt spicy oil in the chicken, and a warm salad are all indications for poor execution. As for the actual ambiance and experience it was my birthday and there was no acknowledgment at all not even someone to check in on whether the food was okay. I did not want to order a dessert after the salad, steak, and shawarma all missing the mark. The seating was very uncomfortable. It is cramped and communal and at this price point I expected a much better experience. Will admit I should have looked into the actual dining set up before booking a late night reservation but even still there are so many better places in Chicago where you can get better food and actually feel comfortable. Overall it just was not worth it. I would not return or recommend this spot.
