    Taverna Lamb Chops.

Had an amazing experience at Avli! I have walked by numerous times and saw the very nice patio for a couple of years and was like what is this place. Came by recently to celebrate a friends bday and the place exceeded expectations by a mile. We of course grabbed a seat on the covered part of the patio and was lucky enough to get an amazing server by the name of Jelena. She was fantastic and was so good at letting us know what the best dishes were and was quite attentive. We started out with the Octapodi which was deicious! Came accompanied oregano vinaigrette..yum! We then got the Flaming Saganaki which was literally fire! Best I've had at any Greek restaurant. Main course, I went with the Taverna Lamb Chops which comes with tasty charred vegetables. Added a side of roasted potatoes recommended by Jelena...outstanding! My friend got the Lavraki aka Branzino which she said was pretty good. Baklava ice cream was woooooo! Loved it! One of the best meals I've had in 2025! Washed this all down with some great cocktails. Dionysus Drank This was verymuch on point. A tequila cocktail that includes lime, mint, watermelon and tripe orange liqueur. Great restaurant with amazing service, delicious cuisine and terrific ambience. Love this place! Great for dates.

    Chicken Souvlaki.

Very cute lively Mediterranean spot. Service was kind and attentive. Food came out super quickly as well. I had the chicken souvlaki which was pretty good. My only issue was that the chicken was both tender and dry? I really enjoyed the rice and salsa that came with the chicken though. The sauce was light and refreshing and was the perfect accompaniment to the chicken. The restaurant also serves table bread which was fine. Soft and pillowy which I like. Overall this place was fine! Okay prices and good vibes c:

I just moved to Chicago and have already become a repeat customer at Avli! Went there first on a date which the restaurant was perfect for -- it's cozy, romantic and the food is well timed course by course. The first visit we had the hummus & pita which was flavorful (and the pita was warm) and then I had the chicken souvlaki which was a huge portion and left me plenty to take home. The tomato salsa on the souvlaki was delicious as well. The second time I went was just for drinks & dessert and we tried the Baklava Ice Cream which was insanely good. They have a great wine selection as well, and it's not too pricey. Both visits the service was top notch -- we actually got stuck in a massive storm the first night and the restaurant manager told us we could stay as late as we needed to wait it out. Our waitress the second time also gave great recommendations! Will absolutely be back.

Always great service and even better food! Greek-style plates are delicious and very filling. Drinks are also unique and tasty. I love coming here in the summer and sitting on the patio. They're dog friendly, which is a plus! The interior and exterior are both beautiful and makes for a great dinner out with friends or a nice date night!

My second time dining at Avli--first was at their Lincoln Park spot. Tonight was River North, and it felt like dining on a Greek island...minus the ocean view. The patio was perfect on a warm Chicago evening, and the service team made it even better. GM Christina stopped by with a warm welcome, and our server handled our group of seven with ease, keeping the evening relaxed and fun. Food highlights: * Pikilia - A trio of house spreads (tzatziki, hummus, and spicy feta) with warm pita. Great way to start. * Zucchini & Eggplant Chips - Paper-thin, lightly fried, and perfectly crisp. * Flaming Saganaki - Opa! Pan-fried cheese, theatrically lit and perfectly gooey inside with a crispy edge. * Watermelon Salad - Refreshing and vibrant, with feta and mint adding contrast. A summer standout. * Chicken Souvlaki - Tender skewers, simply seasoned and perfectly grilled. * Taverna Lamb Chops - Cooked just right, juicy inside with that char-grilled flavor. * Solomon's (Roasted Salmon) - Beautifully flaky, paired with sauces that brightened every bite. And then came dessert--truly the grand finale. We ordered nearly the entire lineup: * Baklava Ice Cream - My personal favorite. Layers of honey, nuts, and flaky pastry spun into creamy perfection. Could have gone back for seconds. * Chocolate Mosaic - Rich and decadent, a hit with the chocolate lovers. * Orange Olive Oil Cake - Light, fragrant, and not too sweet. * Ekmek - Custardy, layered, and indulgent. Honestly, the desserts may have been the highlight of the night. Small note: On a warm evening, a couple more fans on the patio and ice in the water refills would have been welcome. Overall, Avli River North nails the trifecta--atmosphere, hospitality, and food that leaves you planning your return before you've even left.

(G)o or no go - GO! Might be my new favorite Chicago restaurant (W)ow - beautiful flowery open patio (A)mbiance - quick service, fancy (M)enu - Hands down amazing kataifi shrimp, so crunchy and juicy with a savory bed of sauce. Runner up is the branzino, not at all fishy, light and lemony. Honorable mentions to the hummus spread (three types, great deal) and the phyllo feta.

    Pork gyros with fries

Fantastic service, super friendly, explained everything, and phenomenal portion sizes. The food tasted great. Highly recommend the roasted cauliflower. I ordered the pork gyros with fries. It wasn't too loud, and the vibes are perfect for a night out. Highly recommend if you're a fan of Greek food.

I enjoyed a mini happy hour with my 2 pups today at Avli River North.. They've been here many times. We sit outside under umbrellas on the sidewalk with ample room. Cocktails and food for happy hour are tastes of their larger plates. The drink I always go for is "Teach me to dance," vodka, tea, honey and lime. It's very mellow and tasty. The dogs love to people watch. I ordered 2 shrimp wrapped with filo, crispy on the outside but nice and juicy inside, surrounded by sauce. My last drink was the Athenian spritz. The syrup was slightly tangy and light, with everything balanced well. Service is always amazing, especially if Niko is helping you!

I will be first person to admit that I'm the type of guy who needs to escape into a mid-week happy hour when work gets stressful. Not only is Avli my favorite neighborhood happy hour spot, but also a traditional Greek establishment that feels like home to me. Personally, I have only come in for the happy hour specials, but the experience does not disappoint and has kept me coming back. As an Eastern European food connoisseur new to the Chicago area, I have carefully constructed a rating system that reflects my personal thoughts, feelings, and experience. Food 9/10 The regular menu has many offering that look incredible, but I typically just order from their happy hour menu, which offers amazing, small dishes for a great price. Below is a typical experience: Spreads (Trio: Hummus, Tzatziki, Tirokafteri): The spread come with seemingly unlimited pita triangles which are soft and perfect for dipping. If you get the trio, they let you enjoy three out of their five spreads. Their hummus offers a rich and garlicky complex with sudden hints of citrus. I wouldn't say this is a typical hummus.... It's taken to a more professional level. Their tzatziki sauce is sharp, tangy, and refreshing with a prominent cucumber complex. Everything about the tzatziki sauce is phenomenal. The tirokafteri spread is the most unique to me. Its rich and sharp notes come together in harmony through the bell pepper and the feta cheese. Greek Graviera Fries: Some of the best things in life are thin, long, and crispy... including these fries. These fries have a shape and texture that I crave but are also taken to the next level with their Greek seasoning and creamy, mayo based dipping sauce. These are perfect to snack on. Kataifi Shrimp: If you are getting 4 of these, it is cheaper to order them from their main menu (professional tip offered by our wonderful waiter). Between my fiancé and I, this is our favorite thing on the menu. The shrimp is tender and cooked to perfection, but what really makes these little devils delicious is the shredded filo on top of each shrimp. Each bite is crunchy, yet tender. When paired with the spicy mayo dipping sauce, you might be ordering a second plate. Drinks 8/10 All the happy hour cocktails are delicious and refreshing. The cocktails all are Greek inspired and extremely good for the price. I am a beer drinker, and they only offer one lager on the happy hour menu (but hey its only 5 dollars). It would be nice to see them add one stronger beer on their happy hour menu, but for the price its really difficult to complain. Atmosphere 10/10: The restaurant has a white and vibrant theme that makes you feel like you are in Greece. When the weather allows for it, they have outdoor, sidewalk seating that always looks extremely full and vibrant. The establishment looks incredible, especially for what a deal their happy hour is. Likelihood of Return 10/10: For the price, this is the best value happy hour we have found in the area. The service is great and so are the food and drinks. We are so happy to have this spot in our neighborhood. Thank you all, George Clydesdale

Loved this place! What a fabulous vibe. Bright and airy with flowers about. Just beautiful. Started off with some great drinks and had some chicken, and some skewers. The service was very friendly albeit a little slow for lunch but nothing to ruin the lunch. Will return.

We've been looking for a good Greek restaurant since we got back from our first trip to Greece this spring. Avli in River North had good reviews so we decided to try, so glad we did. We had the Greek salad and the moussaka, we split it and it was enough for two. We asked for bread and they brought out some good Italian bread. I had a white crisp wine. My husband had a glass of red wine. Vicki was her Server. She was very personable and quite knowledgeable. She was from Greece, enjoyed talking to her. We will definitely try this again with friends. It also coincided with The Taste River North so we were near the band. It was quite lively. We loved it.

Visited this Greek restaurant for a big group family brunch. The upstairs has plenty of space to accommodate large groups and the Mediterranean decor creates a nice ambiance. Portions were decently sized and food was decent but not too many standouts. Watermelon Salad (4.5/5) - Fresh and light with perfect feta balance Saganaki (3.5/5) - Fried cheese was tasty but bit too salty for my taste Trio of Spreads (3.5/5) - All decent, liked the spicy tirokafteri the best Spanakopita (3/5) - Flaky phyllo and seasoned filling, was fine p Service was quick and prompt even with our large group order (Note: The other notable Mediterranean restaurants, like Ema, in Chicago are unable to accommodate groups above ~6 people so this place came in clutch!)

The menu features a variety of Spanish tapas, pintxos, small plates, and Paella. You are meant to order plates to share with table. Cafe Ba-Ba-Reeba really prides themselves in serving authentic Spanish food and providing guests with a unique experience. The restaurant itself is very cute and has a fun vibe about it. There are plenty of seating options and a gorgeous bar as well. Service was wonderful! Our server did an excellent job checking in on us, refilling waters, and just making sure we were satisfied with everything. We did get a reservation via OpenTable, this is always necessary, but I would recommend doing this, especially on the weekends. We ordered a couple plates to start and the ended up ordering more throughout our meal. I really love that you can do this, it paces the food and allows you to enjoy the experience more. We put in orders for 2 of the goat cheese baked in tomato sauce, a patatas bravas, Spanish olives, and Spanish meatballs (Al Jerez). The food came out in a timely manner and was served made to order. We dove right in! The goat cheese was luscious and perfect on that cold afternoon. It's baked in their old world Spanish oven and served with house garlic bread. This dish was super creamy, with a nice tang from the tomatoes, and just phenomenal. The patatas bravas were just divine! The spicy potato's were cooked to perfection, crispy on the outside and yet soft on the inside. They paired perfectly with sun-dried tomato aioli they were served with as well. The Spanish Meatball were decent as well. They had great texture and I really enjoyed the sherry tomato sauce they were served in. For our next round, we had to order more patatas bravas because they were just that good! We also got some calamari and extra bread for the remaining baked goat cheese. The fried calamari comes with tomato crudo and a jalapeño aioli. It was nice and crispy, nothing too special but still hit the spot nonetheless. Overall, I was so happy my friends and I came here! The food was amazing all around, no complaints at all. The service was great as well. They are very accommodating and do a great job taking care of guests. Loved the interior of the restaurant, it was super cozy! I will definitely have to return next time I'm in the area to try more tapas. Highly recommend!

Parking is sort of a pain, you have to find street parking, might have to pay, or you can use their $20 vallet parking. V made me drive, and I misjudged how far we'd have to walk. Not a good start. We arrived at 8:20pm on a Sunday, while they close at 9pm, they serve until 9pm, and the place doesn't clear out until 10pm, so we were good. We were greeted and seated quickly in a fairly crowded dining room. My aging eyes found the menu difficult to read with small print on yellowish paper, so I used the light on my phone. It's not pretty, but neither is ordering food when you can't see what it is LOL. Our waiter greeted us promptly, and took our drink order, and offered up a specials menu. As I'm driving, I just got iced tea, V ordered a pitcher of passion fruit Sangria. He said the Sangria wasn't great, I tried some, and I thought is was drinkable. It definitely has a kick as V got a bit giddy as the night progressed. V ordered the Seafood Paella (takes 45 minutes), so as a starter, we ordered the Fried Calamari, which was sadly overcooked. It was half crumbs, though the sauce was tasty. With time to kill, we followed that with Lamb Brouccetta (no seasoning, just lamb), on a bed of French Fries (star of the night), grilled potatoes (yummy dipping sauce), and grilled peppers, which were quite tasty and unique. The Seafood Paella arrived, and it was massive. Food for two and then some. We didn't need all the appetizers except for killing time, so we ended up with a lot of Paella to go. I don't like Paella; it always tastes fishy, although this Paella was at least edible, unlike what I had in Barcelona. The waiter was attentive and had a spark of personality. Vigilio thought the bar area where we were seated was loud, but I didn't have any issues talking.

This year I was so excited to bring my family and Ema was the only restaurant in Chicago I couldn't wait for them to try. I booked it as our final meal in Chicago and lay awake at 4am being so disappointed in my choice. Our server's greeting was monotone and emotionless, which I realize now, would be foreshadowing the meal to come. Ordered the following 1) Smoky eggplant- arrived appearing as an unappetizing curdled purple grey mush. This was the worst tasting baba ghanouj I have ever eaten. It was acidic and had the texture of cottage cheese. The only redeeming thing about this appetizer was the warm naan. 2) house made stratciatella with side of green falafels- The stratciatella was bland and stringy. I would not order this dish expecting the creamy interior of typical burrata. However, if you like string cheese mixed with heavy cream- you may enjoy this dish. The tomatoes and basil were good. 3) chicken kefta- kefta was bland, rice even blander . 4) short rib with polenta- bland and the meat and polenta had the same texture, which seems impossible but somehow the plating was over complicated by the addition of mushy dates and grapes. 5) buttered noodles- my 8 year old ordered this. It was decent with a good amount of Parmesan and cooked perfectly al dente. By the end of the meal, I was so shocked by how terrible the food was I didn't even want to order the sticky date cake that was my main purpose for returning to this restaurant. We also loved the classic patatas bravas (crispy and spicy just right), bacon-wrapped dates (sweet-salty perfection), and the baked goat cheese in tomato sauce. No tapas night is complete without sangria, and theirs is legendary - we went with the red, pitcher-style, and it was refreshingly fruity and potent. Everything arrived hot and timed perfectly for sharing. Lil' Ba-Ba-Reeba! is ideal for date nights, group gatherings, or just a fun evening out. The portions are generous for tapas, prices are reasonable for the quality, and the vibes transport you straight to Spain. I'll be back soon - this has quickly become one of my top spots in Chicago! Highly recommend!

The staff was super attentive and kind, checking on us frequently. My friend and I stopped by for happy hour, and this should absolutely make it onto the list of the best in town. They have delicious wine, cocktails, and bites for nearly half of the regular price. I opted for the happy hour prosecco to drink, which was light-bodied and not too sweet. We split the meatballs and dates for bites and both were outstanding. I was super impressed with how tender the meatballs were, and they did not skimp on the flavorful marinara and cheese! The dates, which were topped with a white wine cheese sauce, were mouth-wateringly delicious and a must order. There was also complimentary focaccia with olive oil, which was greatly appreciated. With sea salt on top and a crispy exterior, I could easily have eaten a whole loaf. The only note I have is that the portions are small, so if you don't come during happy hour the prices are a bit steep for what you get. Will 100% be back soon to try more of the menu and highly recommend making the trek over here!

All things we ordered were dripping in a chile oil which I guess I'm just not used to . We enjoyed the spicy root noodles and the peanut noodles as well as the beef hotpot . The chicken as served cold ( by design) and we didn't care for it . Service was efficient . Ambiance super casual. Loved the water they served which had fresh lemon and cucumber in it. Overall, it was a fun culinary adventure. Likely won't be back , but worth a try if you like chengdu style street food . Pricing was fair . Easy metered parking in front of the restaurant

As I walked in, I noticed how quiet and clean the restaurant is. There was only one set of customers in the building so it was quiet. I was immediately seated (of course) and taken to a table in a comfy corner. The menu is a QR code hidden in a little box on the table. I thought this was cool and a good way to decrease wasted paper. The entire ordering process is digital and immediate. I knew exactly when they received my order. I ordered the traditional chicken noodle soup and was a bit surprised upon seeing the bowl. It had about 6 pieces of shredded chicken, but the presentation was nice. The taste of the chicken noodle was disappointing. I immediately ordered something different. The tomato infused noodle soup was amazing!!! I wished I had a Jamaican dumpling to dip in the broth! It was fantastic!! I loved the broth so much that I put my dumplings in the broth as well . The dumplings were delicious by themselves! Lastly, when the manager saw that I ordered another soup, he asked "was this one too plain for you?" I stated yes. He did not take it off of my tab....that was a huge no no. I purchased another soup, so removing this one should have been a no brainer. I didn't make a fuss and paid my tab, but I will not go back anytime soon.

My experience went exactly like this. Imagine going to a movie, one of the better movies you've ever seen. You paid a premium to see this film ahead of time. 30 min in they begin to fast forward, skip scenes, turn the lights on and begin clean up. What I mean is on my engagement night, after a long long day I took my foodie wife to be out for a $300 "experience" which is really just sitting in front of the dessert station next to the expo area. So the food was ok- for all the knowledge ZERO cuts of quality meat. A little goat on a stick and a little tuna poke- the rest veggies which whatever is fine I'm just saying. I spent another $75 on drinks. OpenTable allowed me to book this at 1030pm the restaurant closes at 11pm I was upset and management would not come over and say hi or comp a drink. What restaurant would you be able to call and book a 6 course dinner experience 30min before close? Because it's an app you can hide behind the fact I should be looking at when you close to not book it? Managers profited $300 off me can't comp a drink on our engagement? I had a lovely time, the food wasn't bad, some interesting, service was ok, chefs stoners waiting to get off work. I get it. It's probably worth it but do not hit the last time or they act like you are keeping them late- which we did. I'd never book an experience 30min before close if I put it together. A cheap way for an app and restaurant to squeeze hard earned money out of peoples pockets is what I saw. Cheers
