While I was having a staycation at the next door Marriott, the convenient location of La Scala made it the perfect spot for dinner. I was able to simply walk over and pick up my food, so I could take it back to enjoy in my room. Their prices are very affordable seeing as they give such generous portions. It doesn't mention this on the menu, but pasta dishes will also come with a side of bread. I ordered their penne with vodka sauce and a side of the garlic knots since they had such stellar reviews. They were delish! Smother anything in olive oil and garlic, and it's bound to be a hit. The pasta sadly, I didn't enjoy as much. I prefer a more al dente pasta and this was over cooked because once they added the sauce it just turned into mush. Think more of a Mac and cheese consistency instead of a saucy pasta dish. The sauce itself also didn't taste like vodka sauce at all to me. Oddly, it reminded me more of a cheddar cheese sauce. Lots of creaminess, but needed more tomatoes as it was missing that signature acidic bite a traditional vodka sauce has. While I wouldn't recommend the pasta here, I will say their pizza looked good. I would definitely be willing to give them another try someday for just that alone if I find myself in the area again. read more

This place was horrible. I would not ever eat there ever again. When we walked in we were surprised with the amount of smoke from the oven. My eyes started to burn. You have to order your food from the menu first. The pizza my husband choose was sitting out already. They heated his pizza up by putting it back in the oven. I ordered a cheese pizza, fries and shrimp fettuccine Alfredo. My daughter fries were burnt and doused with a lots of black pepper. My husband Cesar salad tasted old. My shrimp fettuccine was tasteless with no flavor. The sauce had no flavor or any seasoning. It tasted like it can from a can. My daughter pizza was burnt too. I wasted money and time at this place. First time visit - stopped in for a glass of wine and house salad. Atmosphere was not appealing at all and every room reeked of smoke. While I sat there and tried to eat, I had to constantly swat fruit flies/gnats away from face & food. I stopped shooing the insects and I realized it was more than one or two as they collected around me. I counted 8-10 flying around my glass and salad. I took video and unfortunately cannot post here. So been awhile since I rated this. It's two places to me, one that's a walk up and order or get a slice of pizza and a drink. I'd give that decent, but not much more than average ratings. The other, is supposed to be an Italian restaurant, and to the Italian palate it fails. There are ll the typical dishes, but while edible and just okay, if you expect a true Italian flavors, it misses the mark. Maybe it's because they aren't really Italian. To me it tastes like people who might have lived in Italy, but the heart of Italian cooking just isn't here. It's also too Smokey. They have to decide if they want to be a bar , one of few, that people can smoke in, or a legitimate restaurant. The smell is pervasive, and you read enough of complaints about it, so they choose to be what they are. So , to get a slice and judge for yourself, yes. The people who rate these meals to be good Italian, to me don't know the difference. If you do, this isn't for you. read more

Both Cooks & servers handle the food with no gloves. Watched 3 different people (2 cooks & a server) remove a pizza slice, garlic knots & a sandwich directly out the oven barehanded. Grosssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss female server grabbed bread out oven bare handed placed in basket then brought to a table. How is it sanitary to handle cash etc and touch cooked food. A hidden gem. Pizza is amazing! Pasta and meatballs were also extremely delicious. Staff was super friendly and attentive. They do have a bar room that has smoking and a dining room that is next to it for bigger groups that is Not smoking. They have a full bar and wine list. There are a few TVs In by the bar for watching the game but the bar isn't very big so may not be good for large groups of 8+. I will be returning for the pizza! I checked them out based on all the solid recommendations in my network. I ordered the supreme pizza which was good but not great in my opinion. The salt factor was lacking for me. Usually it comes through in the form of the meat portion of the toppings and/or sauce but If it was more present it could have made all the difference. First time here and was referred by a colleague. They like the bar area because it's still like an old school bar. We sat in the take out side because the restaurant was fully reserved. Food was served very fast even with the crowd and the pizza slice and spaghetti with meat Sauce was excellent. I couldn't eat all the spaghetti and that's usually never a problem! I can't exactly say La Scala's is the best in the hood because it's the only pizza place I've ever needed since moving here, and in a short 10 days, I haven't had the desire to try anything else. But seriously, the food is great. For the first time, the wife abandoned me and my 1 year old son for a bachelorette weekend and it was 8:30pm with a sleeping kid and rumbling stomach. Got here in 30ish minutes with amazeballs garlic knots, caesar salad which went uneaten, and a great Chicken Murphy. Thin-sliced chicken breasts served in a spicy marinara with mushrooms (too few) and green peppers (way too many), but still great flavor and satisfying. Second time wife was back and beyond hungover craving some comfort food, i.e. pizza. Told her about my delish experience previously and a short 45 minutes later, we had amazeballs garlic knots (yes, again), bruschetta (get back to that), and an Albanian pizza (their name, not mine). Pizza was a white (although binary in gender), with green peppers (the right amount, this time), chicken, spinach, and ricotta. All around yummy and well baked with great crust. The bruschetta! Ahhhh, the bruschetta. Delivery may differ, but this french bread loaf cut almost in half lengthwise and stuffed with tomatoes and seasonings, topped with cheese, folded back and oven roasted, just spells something that may not be bruschetta by classic definitions, but should be on every tastebud in 'Murica. The dinning area is called La Scala's and the take out area is called Joes. On the dinning side everything is excellent!!! Love the lasagna lunch special! I have been here several times and the quality of food is consistently acceptable. I like the service and its a comfortable environment. They have comfy area for quick lunch or fine dining option for later in the evening. I love their garlic knots. They are addicting! They also have spicy arabiata sauce which has nice kick to it. Best Italian food in town. We have been frequenting this restaurant for the last 18 years and I don't think I have ever had a bad meal.. We go to the pizza when the kids are with us and you can't go wrong with the Perolli pizza or Forget about it pizza. If I grab a quick lunch I get an Italian salad and a calzone. And then if my husband and I are going out for an adult meal, we go to the other side which is a somewhat romantic sit down and just slowly go through the menu. This place is a favorite of a few of my co-workers, and it does have the advantage of being VERY close to our office. The problem is, like many Italian joints, it's a "carb-fest" from top to bottom. Sometimes, a place will offer the classic "peppers and sausage" dish, but La Scala does not offer such a dish. After weighing my options and discussing with one of said co-workers, we hit upon what turned out to be a great compromise: I purchased some Dreamfields pasta (short version: it helps blood sugar control by not "hitting" all at once like regular pasta; Google them for more info) and brought it with me. My co-worker spoke to the staff (he's very well known there) and they agreed to cook my pasta and use it in my dish. I've since repeated this a couple of times. So, now I can get the chicken piccata without fear, have some cacciatore without guilt and in general, enjoy a meal here. They do have very good food (the garlic knots are awesome but yeah, they're a carb-fest :) ) and it's a friendly, down-to-earth place where you won't find people with their noses in the air. Plus, you can get some great pizza from their "Siamese twin". Joe's. If you're like me and are watching your blood sugar, take some Dreamfields pasta with you and they'll cook it up for you with a smile. That's definitely a good thing. read more

Boo. Came here by recommendation and were so disappointed. We showed up on a Saturday at peak dinner hours and should've been warned by the complete lack of people. Maybe only 2 other patrons there. The atmosphere gives off a vibe of wanting to be nice/fancy, but it's not. The waitresses were casually rolling silverware in the dining room. The food was the most disappointing. You pay so much for food that tastes so mediocre. The bread was stale, the mozzarella sticks tastes microwaved and the sauce had to have been straight out of a can. Gross. read more
