Taverna Rossa is a nice restaurant where you can come for a date night, a meal with family, or going out with friends. The first time that I came I wasn't too impressed with the green chile mac & cheese pizza but this next time after ordering something new, my expectations were blown away. We ordered the queen margherita pizza with the gluten free crust and the chicken parmesan pasta and everything was AMAZING. The pizza was cooked to just the right crisp with a very flavorful sauce, and the chicken parmesan had a perfectly cooked chicken with cheese on top and a delicious chicken alfredo pasta with 2 pieces of bread. The cooks were on it that night! Not only was our food amazing but our waiter did his job extremely well and was very personable. Went here on a Saturday night around 5pm. It was busy, but we were seated immediately, which was awesome! We were brought upstairs to this little loft area, which felt....like we were being punished. Now we were only a 2 top, so I can understand that they may not have a spot or wanted us to take up a 4-top on a Saturday night, but it felt...CRAMPED up there. This place really does seem fun, but it was very hard to enjoy it up in the attic... As far as the restaurant, it was very clean and well kept, no issues with how everything looked. Nothing was really out of place, although it did feel like the upstairs was a storage area. We ordered the Killer Queso for an appetizer, which was served with fritos. Odd choice for fritos, but hey, all good, didnt take away from the appetizer. What took away from the appetizer was the fact that this felt like it was heated up from a can. The cheese was not really seasoned well and it was already clumpy, like it had been left out for a while. Then we ordered 2 pizzas; The Bees Knees (spicy red sauce, hot soppressata, fresh moz, basil, honey) and Local Goat & Fig (bacon, goat cheese, free moz, dried figs, balsamic glaze, basil). Here is where I continue to say that pizza is a very opinionated meal, so your taste may differ, but this was my take. Flavor was there, I liked the pizza, it had a nice crispy crust, however, as far as the bee's knees, there was no spicy that pizza at all, like zero heat. The Goat & Fig was good, like the flavors they put on that pizza. The crust did lack some flavor and could have used some olive oil maybe. There was a nice crispy to the crust, like I said, but ZERO crisp on the bottom of it, which is odd. they had a nice wood fired oven (at least I think it was wood, hard to tell from the attic). So you thin they could get a nice bottom, but hey, it is what it is. Drinks. Had a OB Hef and also a Prickly Pear Mule, both were DIVINE, best part of the evening! Staff. Well, lets just say, she started off like she was going to be fun, but really felt like we were annoying her to have been seated up there. I could understand with having to walk up and down a narrow staircase with food and drinks. She must have passed us 5-6 times and we had not touched any more of our pizza. She finally did bring us a box for it. Overall, price was not bad, the drinks were awesome, the service was meh and the meal was meh. I think that this place could be KILLING IT, and maybe it was just an off night, perhaps we will try it again with a bigger party to see how it is. read more

came here for happy hour, and i think it was definitely worth it. honestly, the worst part about this place is the parking situation. We ended up getting the BYO Pizza which came with 3 toppings. We also got a salad, kids pizza+drink and meatballs, all for under 40 bucks before tip and tax. I was enjoying my salad and I looked down and there was a cricket in my salad. The server, who was amazing, came over and took my salad. The manager, male, came over and asked if I wanted another salad and said obviously we won't charge you. I said absolutely not and he walked off. My husband went and talked to him and the female manager came over and comped our food. Everyone was WONDERFUL, besides him! We wanted to pay for our drinks because those were great and we wanted to tip our server. We love this place. Come here often. It's sad that their compensation for finding an insect in their food is giving you the same item or saying "we will obviously comp it." Anyways, check your salad. I'm a really big fan of Taverna Rossa, even though they no longer have risotto on their menu (which was my favorite). BUT they still have lots of gluten free options as far as pizza and pasta, even a gluten free fudge brownie dessert. Mhmm.. On my recent visit I enjoyed a small caesar salad (without croutons) and their pesto pasta with grilled shrimp and veggies. Everything was excellent. The salad was super fresh and green and crunchy with tons of cheese, and their Caesar dressing is deliciously tangy. The pesto sauce on the pasta was super creamy and flavorful (made with walnuts), and the squash and peppers were cooked perfectly al dente. The shrimp was fantastic as well... not dry or chewy at all. Alongside a glass of Barbera (Italian red wine), I pretty much had the perfect lunch. This place gets five stars for the Monte Cristo Pizza alone...absolutely phenomenal!! Please never take it off your menu. lol The service and overall vibe are great, too, which makes it one of our go-to brunch spots. We do tend to avoid it when there's live music, only because the sound really bounces around inside and gets a bit too loud to enjoy a conversation. That said, it never stops us from coming back for our favorites. The Monte Cristo is always a must, but we've tried a few other pizzas as well and have never had a bad meal here. Came here on a whim for lunch after an appointment in Southlake, and I'm so happy I did! There is ample seating both inside and outside, I recommend the patio if it's a nice day like today. I ordered the lunch special, which includes an individual pizza, salad and fountain drink, which was perfect for a midday meal. I decided to stick with classics, Caesar salad and queen Margherita pizza. Both were good, however, I'd like to be more adventurous next time, (especially after trying the ranch dressing, i definitely want to try that on a salad next). It has been a while, but in the past I have enjoyed their crunchy thin crust pizzas. My last visit must have been an off day. I was shopping in the area and stopped in after the lunch rush. The restaurant was mostly empty. My waitress Chisholm, was very nice. However, the pizza was a bit disappointing. The toppings were skimpy and the crust was whimpy. We had a group of 14 going to lunch (13 separate checks) and someone recommended Taverna Rossa in Southlake. We did let them know before we came, the group arrive at 11:30 so we beat the rush but expected the size of the group would complicate the food delivery and service. I was wrong our server Krissy P, was very efficient with water, additional beverages and checking for any appetizers. We ordered everything from the lunch specials, full size pizza, sandwiches and salads. The kitchen worked their magic and everything came out fairly quickly and most importantly with all the special requests taken care of without a slip-up. When this group goes out to eat together we expect something will slip through the cracks, between the large group and the normal dietary restrictions. Not at Taverna Rossa everything was delicious. Water, tea and soft drinks were refilled without asking (thanks again Krissy) and she brought take away boxes for those wanting to take their pizza and sandwiches home. Atmosphere was great for a large group at lunch, food was excellent and Krissy made it easy from special orders, (we had a few first timers in the group), to refills to getting all the checks out with the correct charges. This group likes to try different places in the area but we may make it back to Taverna Rossa on a more regular basis. read more

This place started out seriously bad at lunch. No hostess, no instructions, just us and another large party awkwardly loitering at the hostess stand. We waited... and waited... and then waited some more. I even tried the universal 'I'm lost in IKEA' move of waving someone down--still nothing. Eventually, I took matters into my own hands and marched through the dining room to demand assistance. A staffer confidently said, 'No way you've been waiting 10 minutes.' Sir, yes, we absolutely were. Finally, we got a table and, thank goodness, we scored Ivan as our waiter. Ivan deserves a raise, a promotion, and maybe even a statue in his honor. He was fast, attentive, and made sure we had waters, refills, and everything else. Basically, he salvaged this experience. We ordered the lunch special--an incredible deal at $13 for a salad, pizza, and drink. Hubby went for the Thanksgiving Pizza Pie, and I braved the Pink Piggy, which had just the right kick of spice. Even the salads were better than expected. Without Ivan, this would've been a total dumpster fire of an experience, but thanks to him, it's a solid thumbs-up. This place gives- American twist on Italian- in a good way! The food was so delish! We ordered a few appetizers- meatballs, buffalo shrimp, deviled eggs and mushrooms. All the food was yummy. My coworkers ordered the lunch special, you get a personal pizza and salad! I got the tomato basil soup and it was very good. We sat outside so I didn't get a good view of the inside but it was nice atmosphere on the patio. They had fans to help circulate the air. We only waited 15 mins for our table. Our server was a sweet heart. I would say get the cheesy bread ONLY if you have more than 4 (fully) grown people. They serve 3 long slices of bread! We have been customers since the place opened. It was great, then went through a period when it wasn't so good, then good again. We visited two weeks ago and was very disappointed. They have changed the crust on the pizza. It is like a thick soft cracker instead of the thin bubbly with a little char pizza we are used to. We have had our share of pizza from Italy, Chicago, New York and even Detroit. I know when a crust has been changed. This one tastes like and appears to be premade, not made in the restaurant. It tasted stale and did not complement the toppings. Service was good as usual and drinks were fine...but we came for the pizza and it will be hard to come back with that cardboard crust. read more

I don't know why I keep coming back here. Mainly convenient- because I live so close But last night was the last time. It's ALWAYS been difficult to get service at the bar. Bartenders are distracted, and very non-caring. Maybe it's because I'm alone/single so sure my bill & tip will be less than 2 or more people but still no excuse. Last night after a long drive home from Austin, I needed food and a drink. Waved down a bartender... had half a beer down and I had to flag down the guy again to ask a question which no one knew what the deviled eggs for the day were but they figured that out finally, then they ghosted again. Still hungry, 15 min later, paid for my beer and left. This was the third time. I'm not giving them any more chances. I like this place, yes it's a chain but they are doing well with an inviting atmosphere, great service, excellent bar prices, good food and valued specials. We had the family special for $33 which comes with pizza, salad and warm pretzel. For how delicious the pretzel is I was disappointed in the pizza crust by comparison but everything was good to uncle the kids pasta for my picky eater. I've also had the $13 lunch special which is a small salad, pizza and drink to go, and would recommend that as well. I really enjoyed my $5 Bloody Mary's and the service was superior. We will return for the atmosphere, drinks and appetizer items. For those with kids there is a an astroturf area on the other side of the crosswalk where many preteens/ kids can be found throwing a football or goofing around. This place has delicious cocktails, beer for days, savory appetizers, and pizza that will blow your mind.
