The Ro On Oak delivers an experience where the aesthetics are absolutely spot on. The dark burgundy velvet tones mixed with rich wood finishes instantly create a feeling of stepping back in time. The music selection and volume were equally well done, balanced in a way that felt welcoming to every generation. At one point, I almost felt like I had stepped into the bar scene from *The Shining*, not in a creepy sense, but in that nostalgic, timeless atmosphere kind of way. The Old Fashioned was prepared exactly right, especially with my request for lighter bitters since I do not enjoy it overly sweet. Many places miss that balance, but they nailed it here. The charcuterie board was easily one of the best I have had. The mozzarella and white cheddar were perfectly portioned, fresh, and rich. The green apple slices tasted incredibly fresh, like they had just been picked from the orchards of Apple Hill in California. The honeycomb was a first for me on a board and made the experience especially memorable. The artwork throughout the space also adds a unique character that I always appreciate in a restaurant. The prosciutto was a little tough but still had good flavor, while the Calabrese was spot on. Service was professional and attentive, with frequent check-ins throughout the evening. My only recommendation would be for servers to introduce themselves, as that small touch makes the experience feel more personal and welcoming rather than simply transactional. read more

The atmosphere at The Rô on Oak is great. Unfortunately, the service was aggressively mid. At these prices, you're not just paying for liquor in a nice glass. You're paying for hospitality, attention, and an upscale experience. When the service doesn't show up but the premium pricing still does, it starts to feel a little like theft. Not actual theft, obviously. More like, "I ordered the full experience and somehow only half of it made it to the table." The place looks great, the vibe is there, and the concept absolutely works. But upscale prices require upscale service. Otherwise, you're basically paying a luxury surcharge for the privilege of wondering where your server went. read more

We've come here on a couple different occasions with different experiences. I would definitely recommend conking at night versus during the day or for lunch: the vibe is completely different and more upbeat! We came here for the World Cup initially as they had advertised that they'd have the game on. We showed up and it was pretty empty and while the game was on, they were pumping music over it, so just not really the experience we were looking for. The kitchen was also closed, which wasn't made clear until after we'd sat down. The staff was incredibly kind though and we left shortly thereafter. I'm glad we made a return here with some friends for after dinner drinks as it really redeemed that experience. The drinks are unique and fun and the vibe was much more lively and social. I had the "I remember you" and it was delicious. I'd definitely come by again: it's a really nice addition to downtown Roanoke and brings a different flavor! read more

The Rô on Oak describes itself as an upscale, rock-and-roll-themed cocktail lounge, and based on their website, reservations appear to be an important part of the guest experience. Because of that, I made a reservation online before our visit. When we arrived, the lounge was virtually empty, yet it still took about 10 minutes for staff to find us a table. There is one particular table that I enjoy sitting at, and when I asked about it, the manager came over and said it could have been reserved, but since it wasn't, he would "allow" us to sit there. I explained that I had intentionally made a reservation and expected that to be taken into consideration. Rather than responding professionally, the manager became loud, argumentative, and unnecessarily rude. His demeanor completely changed the atmosphere of what should have been an enjoyable evening. I always try to be respectful and polite when speaking with staff, and I certainly wasn't looking for special treatment. However, there is a difference between setting expectations and speaking to paying customers with courtesy. For a venue that positions itself as an upscale destination with premium pricing, I expected a much higher level of professionalism and hospitality. We've visited The Rô on Oak several times because we enjoy the venue, but this interaction left a very disappointing impression. Great cocktails and ambiance can only go so far when customer service falls short. I sincerely hope management reflects on how guests are treated, because no customer should feel dismissed or spoken to disrespectfully after making the effort to reserve a table and support the business. read more

Fun little spot to grab a drink and snack. Very chill atmosphere with Vegas like decor. We ordered drinks and a flat bread. We enjoyed the tomato basil flat bread, but the tomato was not roasted as per menu, instead a fresh slice on top, which we liked. It did need salt and pepper, but neither on the tables. They were out of Prosecco:( Odd, go down to the store and buy a bunch. It was Friday night and early in the evening. My only complaint was that the music didn't match the mood, vibe or relaxed atmosphere. It was too loud and not the right style. This small intimate speakeasy has a relaxing vibe that allows you to unwind from a long day and enjoy an expertly crafted cocktail, wine, or beer of your choosing. We sat at the bar and told the bartender the types of whisky and drinks I liked and asked him for his recommendations. He didn't disappoint! I had 2 unique drinks that I'll never be able to remember what they were (and that's ok b/c I'll ask for their recommendations) and they were excellent. I waited a few days to rate this place, wanted to make sure it was fair. If you are looking for cocktails and a club like atmosphere, you are in the right place. We went for the atmosphere and something for a snack. Big mistake. Wine list is small and basic low end grocery store at 4 times the price. I get markups but a $13 dollar wine for $60? To top it off, with a limited selection they were out of the first two wines we selected. Crazy. (Available at the local grocery store, why did you not go buy some?!). Food was poor. We selected a flatbread, topping fine, crust was horrible. Seriously, while you at Kroger, pick up some Boboli and improve your product immensely. Sad performance by management. read more

The atmosphere is cozy and great for a romantic moment over some great mixology options. The menu is small but really good. We had the flat bread and the meatballs. It was all really good. I also noticed the beautiful bar with about 6-8 high chairs available for seating. It's a small restaurant but classy and quaint at the same time.
