If you're looking for a cute, chic rooftop moment, this is it. La Piscina sits on the rooftop of the Austin Proper Hotel right by the pool, and the whole vibe is exactly what you want it to be. Effortlessly stylish, relaxed, and perfect for warmer weather days. I already know I want to come back and actually stay at the hotel because everything about it felt elevated but still fun. We stopped in for cocktails and kept it light with chips and dip, and somehow even that felt like a standout. The tortilla chips were so good, and as someone who takes her Mexican food seriously, that says a lot. I ordered the mimosarita, which was refreshing and just the right mix of playful and strong. This is one of those places you go for the ambiance but end up being pleasantly surprised by the details too.

We've been to La Piscina a few times and have had absolutely stellar dining experience each time we're here. During this visit, I've only tried their seafood, not their meat, which is also great especially the steak fajita is usual pretty good too. From start to finish, the seafood was impeccable and clearly prepared with care. The star of the show was the grilled octopus. It was cooked to absolute perfection--incredibly tender, with a slight char that gave it a wonderful smoky depth. But what truly elevated the dish was the accompanying sauce. It was complex, savory with a hint of sweetness, and simply excellent, complementing the octopus without overpowering its delicate flavor. This dish comes with chícharron, a nice taxes texture to the dish. Besides with their complimentary chips snd salsa, we began with the oysters and they set the tone perfectly. They were the epitome of freshness: chilled, clean, and with that beautiful, sweet, briny flavor of the sea. The service was attentive and the atmosphere added to the overall lovely lunch. La Piscina clearly prioritizes quality ingredients and precise execution. I will be dreaming of that octopus and counting the days until I can return. Highly recommend!

Some of the best fajitas in Austin! We can for an early dinner yesterday and it was my bf's first time. The chicken and steak are my fav but we decided on the pineapple and ribeye fajitas. The steak was cooked perfectly but the flavor fell flat for us. Our rice and beans were okay as well! Our server was very polite and quick! I enjoyed the open kitchen concept and the interior compliments the hotel (Mexican modern vibes). The dining room can be a little tight in certain areas but we made it work. The patio is beautiful and I'm sure the view is great at night. We'll have to circle back and try other dishes!

It doesn't really feel like a rooftop bar situation anyway, at least not in January. Most people are indoors dining, and the pool with the outdoor seating area were completely empty. It gave much more upscale restaurant energy than "grab a drink and enjoy the view" vibes. Be warned that they do fill up during peak dining hours on the weekends (make a resy in advance!)

I stopped by for a birthday lunch and this place did not disappoint. Upon arrival, we were promptly greeted and seated. Modern and cozy ambiance - perfect for working lunches, groups and special occasions. We ordered appetizers and their classic frozen margarita - delicious! For the main, I went with the red snapper tacos and it was amazing. Decent portions which left room for dessert. Overall pleasant experience - worth the visit.

Delicious brunch fajitas hit the spot. Just what I needed before heading to the airport. Attentive service at beautiful poolside table.

My 3 girls and I went here for a celebration. The vibes are gorgeous! We went around 7:30pm and it was nice seeing the sun go down. My only complaint is that the table was small so we couldn't fit everything on there and had to box things away to get it to fit. Also it is very loud inside. The food was good but I'd just stick with the fajitas next time. That was the best part out of everything. Things we ordered: - Margarita - nachos - fajitas with shrimp and steak - red snapper tacos Not sure about parking since we ubered and it's part of the Proper Hotel.

Quite fair prices for a rooftop hotel restaurant! The fajitas plates are their signature dish and they're a steal of a deal. Huge portion of meat and sides that serve 2+ people. And that cheese pull... warning - you'll never be able to eat fajitas without cheese ever again. Service was also quick and friendly. Highly recommend for a dinner out.

Inside Proper hotel 5th floor. Staff knowledgeable and friendly. There are vegetarian options aside from salad but you just have to ask. Food is pricey but fresh. Highlights: Oysters ($6) each are fresh, queso dip was very good, red gulf snapper tacos are flavorful and delicious. The tortillas are made fresh! Margs are fun flavors - recommended. I suggest sitting outside :)

Came here to celebrate my birthday with my wife and had a great experience. The restaurant is located in the upscale Proper Hotel. We ordered the Gulf snapper with aji amarillo aguachile, the steak arrachera and achiote chicken fajitas, a bacon-wrapped shrimp, a quail diablo, coconut tres leches, and choco flan. Everything was delicious and perfectly cooked--my favorite was the aguachile. My only complaint was the noise level; it was very loud and hard to have a conversation or hear the waitress. After a few margaritas, though, it didn't bother us as much. Overall, I highly recommend this place for a special occasion."

Loved La Piscina - great vibe with the Proper Hotel. One (-) and I will get this out of the way first. I'm guessing this space was designed by someone from Wisconsin or Minnesota who doesn't understand what happens to Central Texas starting in June - it wasn't even that hot (high 95, low 75) and it was hot inside. Like blast some A/C or fans. To be fair once it started emptying out a bit it cooled off. With that out of the way, the vibe, decor, service, and food were all fantastic. On that note, this place is alot cheaper than you'd think - like Fajitas - $50...but they feed three people..not even joking. La Piscina was one of the more fun restaurants I've been to here and would love to come again. Would take friends/family visiting for sure.

Such a charming rooftop spot tucked inside the Proper Hotel! I think it was on the fifth floor (don't quote me), but once you step off the elevator, you'll spot the restaurant entrance and the pool area right away--very chic, very "vacation-but-make-it-local." We didn't have a reservation, but luckily snagged seats at the bar--and honestly, I'm glad we did. The bartender was fantastic: friendly, engaging, and full of great recommendations without being too chatty. We started with the fish tacos (so good) and shared the chicken and beef fajitas--perfect for splitting. My husband had a beer, and I went with a hibiscus tea (which felt just right for the rooftop vibe). Dinner was great, the atmosphere was relaxed, and the whole experience left me already thinking about our next visit.

This place was actually so good. The hotel is really nice so a great ambiance to start off with. And then these fajitas were delicious. My husband and I split the chicken fajita and left with leftovers. It's a pretty good deal for the amount of food you get! Loved the melty cheese and that they bring out a flame to keep it warm. Will be back!

Best option for parking if not using valet?

Try to feed the meter or park in the public parking next door. It should be cheaper than valet parking but still expensive. Best bet is to arrive early and feed the meter .

If I'm getting a friend in Austin, recently separated from partner, late 30s, hip, and I've never been to Austin, what's a decent amount for a gift card that I can send her? Dinner for 2! Thanks! JPeralto, Hilo, HI

At least $100 for a decent dinner or lunch, considering she is not a heavy drinker.

What level of attire is recommended?

Good afternoon Katherine. Our desired attire is resort casual.

Both times, the food has been spectacular, the service off the page, and the atmosphere and ambiance magnificent. We tried three mezzes last night, and each was killer. The hummus was the smoothest I've ever eaten and with the brisket, it was killer! We tried the whipped feta with pistachios, and it was special -- salty/sweet and a little something special to make you wonder just what the spice was. The lamb & beef keftas were also excellent, with the lemon rice and a nice tsadziki -- and we make keftas at home fairly regularly, so we know what a good one tastes like. The only regret that we had was that we only have one stomach each. A second would have allowed us to keep tasting... Don't miss it. Even the patio dining was cool and refreshing -- and it was 86º when we were eating dinner!

I booked this spot roughly 1 month in advanced, and I was only able to snag a 7:15pm reservation…read more(even as a solo diner). Music Lane is a beautiful area with corridors bustling with fresh air, which greatly contrasts the area not too far south of it. Aba lies within these corridors, so I was completely gobsmacked to see the size of the establishment and its number of seating. There are outdoor tables, a dedicated bar section, a decently large interior, and patio and sofa seats for the people waiting. Even then, the place was completely packed, so getting a reservation is an absolute must. Not only are the prices completely reasonable, the food itself had everything that I was looking for: a delicious spread starter, a balanced fiber dish, and an entree with intentional flavors and texture. The Short Rib Hummus is a must get! It is incredibly filling and completely worth the price. The short rib was a nice meat protein since I opted for a seafood main, and the pita bread that it came with was lightly seasoned and was as fluffy as it could possibly be. I could not eat much of my Brussel Sprouts because it was also very large. However it was not too oily or drenched, and each bite had a perfect light crunch, which is the standard for Fried Brussels Sprouts. Top it all off, the Grilled Branzino was the finisher to my savory dishes. The grill gave the fish a roasted flavor, which was complimented by the sweetness from the corn purée. The various greens, roasted tomatoes, and corn pieces themselves added bites of textures and secondary bursts of flavor. I can see why it took a month in advanced to book a decent time at Aba Austin. The atmosphere was so perfect because the air flows through all the doors and windows, allowing the diners to enjoy fresh oxygen. This place is a must visit, both as an experience and a meal that is WORTH the bill.

What a wonderful dinner in a beautiful downtown restaurant…read more This visit we decided to just do small plates. A highlight was the tempura lobster bao. If we'd tried this first, I might have kept ordering more until I was stuffed. PEI oysters fresh, well shucked, a great start. Parker house rolls were unexpectedly huge and hard to stop eating. The rolls filled any appetite holes in an appetizer grazing dinner. Shrimp cocktail, with atomic cocktail sauce that found its way onto some bites of rolls. Stone crab, one large each, was fun to try and tasty, but a little sloppy work. Kudos that the wait staff brought fresh how towels each time we dove into a messier course.
