Discovered this Hong Kong restaurant inside the Monte Carlo Inn. They serve Hong Kong style Italian dishes, mainly rice and pasta dishes. Parking was free, and you enter through the Monte Carlo's main doors. All lunch menu items came with a drink, soup, and garlic bread. Tea time menu came with a drink. What we ordered: - Pork Chop with Honey Mustard Sauce ($23.99) - 10/10. Two large pieces of pork chops, glazed with honey mustard sauce. This dish was my favourite. - Chicken Steak with Homemade Seven Spice ($22.99) 5/10 - We found this dish to be too bland. I didn't taste the spices, and ended up having to put some black pepper just to have some more flavour. - Shrimp Linguini in Spinach White Wine Sauce ($15.99) - 7/10. This item was from the tea time menu and portions were still very big. Flavours were good. Shrimps were big. I just wish there was more to this dish. Servers were very attentive. Lots of seating inside and very spacious. Tip: If you buy a VIP card for $10, you get 10% off your entire bill each time you use it. Doesn't look like there's an expiry date on the card. It was our 3rd time here for dinner (Dec 11, 2025). We went to the Aquarium in the morning,This time we brought my parents in law here. My father in law was trying to order more, in case we didn't have enough food, but I told him, each dish was big enough and good enough. We ordered 1 from the set menu, other 3 were just individual. We got onion bread and salad first. Then other dishes were come one by one. They didn't take much time after we ordered. That's so good. And not many ppl there. Everyone enjoyed their own dish and the service here. At the end, we still packed up some leftovers. And the most important thing is the menu would be updated and changed seasonally and occasionally. Visited the restaurant during lunch and afternoon tea time on separate occasions. This is inside the Monte Carlo Inn in Markham that offers Hong Kong authentic Chinese cafe food. Ordered the specialty honey mustard porkchop with pasta. Requested the pasta to toss with tomato sauce for added flavour for free. The porkchop was huge and juicy and comes with 2 big pieces. Honey kustard sauce on the side so porkchop won't be overly sweet and dip on the side with your liking. Absolutely loved this! Baked Tomato Porkchop with rice was truly authentic HK Cafe taste. Sauce was not overly sweet and perfect flavour. The porkchop was also juicy and they already cut in pieces for your convenience so you can just dig in for your bite not needing to cut or hassle. Spaghetti bolognese was nostalgic. Taste just like HK and the the linguine pasta is al dente. They did not stinge on the meat sauce. Lobster sauce pasta with fish fillet was decent. I can taste the lobster flavour from the creamy sauce. I don't prefer sauce that's very milky or creamy but I did enjoy this pasta as well. It has red peppers, green peppers, mushroom and onion in it. Fish fillet is deep fried and has a slight salty taste. The lobster sauce matched well with the fish fillet. Curry beef was strong in curry with a mild coconut milk flavour. Spicy and flavorful and goes well with the rice. Lots of beef slices, potato and carrots in the dish. You can ask for rice on the side so it won't soak up all the sauce. I enjoyed all the dishes I've tried and they now offer a new chalk board afternoon tea menu with soup noodles added for more options for everyone. The resto is located inside Monte Carlo Inn on Woodbine Ave. Ok the truth is, in terms of overall food quality, I do think the 3 star aggregate is pretty accurate. The pasta here is like 3.5/5 but everything else is around 3 stars. I REALLY, REALLY wanna give 3.5 overall rating tbh, simply because the portions are massive and the service was actually good contrary to what a lot of these reviews are saying. But alas, 2023 is a new year and one of my resolutions is to stop rounding up half a star if deep down I know the resto doesn't deserve it. So in this case, I'm feeling a 3.5 but since I'm not rounding up I have to round down to 3. Tiger shrimp penne with spinach cream sauce: This was what I ordered and by far the best dish of the lot. The pasta was cooked al dente. The sauce was creamy and thick. And there were A LOT of tiger shrimps running through this dish to justify that $20 price tag for a lunch. Did I mention above that the dishes in general were huge? This pasta was no exception. Chicken steak (not pictured): My dad ordered this and while the chicken WAS tender and moist, it came without sauce. Neither did the spaghetti that he paired with it, come with any sauce. This was very puzzling to me. He literally ate cooked spaghetti noodles with no sauce. Baked pork chop (honey mustard sauce): The sauce was tasty and the pork chops were actually very moist. I actually liked the chops more than the chicken steak tbh. It's a lot harder to cook a good pork chop than a good chicken thigh so this dish was actually done right. Probably rank this one right below my pasta. Baked sole fillet with pesto cream sauce: My bro's fiancé ordered this, and I never got a chance to try it but she did say it was ok. Came with a generous portion of fish. I've only ever eaten here for lunch with my family and my godparents so it's sort of a novelty/niche place for me. I don't think I'd ever suggest coming here out of the blue with my friends or gf tbh. It's not remarkable enough to warrant either. This restaurant is quite busy, and it is typically quite busy for a reason. The food is ok but the value of exceptional and you will definitely get your money worth. Especially looking at their combo set lunch/dinner, you probably won't be able to find another menu at this value within the 10km range. For me ordered a combo honey mustard pork chop guaranteed I also have lunch for the next day. Food overall is good, since their servers are quick, the food are served fresh and hot. The taste is what you can expect in a HK Western style restaurant（港式西餐廳）. Service overall is very good, servers are attentive, but they are kind of like HK style type rush. So don't expect the slow classy service like those at JOEY, where you paid double the price and the service is slow. Wait staff were polite, topped up our tea, fast with service so I couldn't fault them for anything. The food came out fast and hot. The portion of fish that I had on my plate was double what I thought I'd be receiving but the shrimp seemed a bit on the smaller side. The only real fault from my late lunch was that there was an obscene amount of oil on my plate. I doubt any of the items would've produced that much oil. I ordered a Bruschetta & Smoked Salmon Garden Salad served with Daily Soup (Creamy mushroom soup) & Garlic Bread - $17.99. Let's start with the soup. I am not a fan of their mushroom soup just because it tasted bland and it doesn't look very appetizing. Garlic Bread was very small and looked average. The salad was in a big portion ( 3 to 4 pieces of smoked salmon and 2 pieces of bruschetta). Overall, I am happy with the main course and the dining environment. I really want to give this place a 3.5 stars. Trips to hotel always invoke feelings of exceptional hospitality and it's no different even if it's to the Monte Carlo in town. The restaurant is accessed through the hotel so you get a chance to walk by the fountain outdoors and see a bit of the lobby before you get to the restaurant. I was actually surprised to see some people there. It was the middle of the week and we just wanted to try something new. We had our pick of tables and chose to sit by the window. We asked for both hot and cold water which they obliged. They use different shape glasses depending on the water temperature so they refill it with your preferred water which I thought was clever. The menu is very HK cafe inspired. The dinner specials seemed to be the best value since it came with a choice of appetizer as well as coffee or tea. There was another menu that was a place setting and you can also order off that although those seemed to be mostly a la carte. We were all given bread which paired nicely with the soup. There were soup options and I was interested in trying the lobster bisque. Honestly the reason I really can't give the full 4th star is because this bisque was just like straight up gravy. It was very salty. To their credit there were little bits of shrimp inside which was a nice touch but the flavor was just super off to me. My entree was pretty good though. I had the tiger shrimp pasta in a white wine sauce. The sauce was light but still had good flavor. There were veggies like pepper and onion slivers and mushrooms. A nice mix of veggies that were not offensive and didn't overpower any of the sauce. The pasta was also cooked well so I was pretty pleased with my dish. Finally, you can opt for a HK milk tea, coffee, or just English black tea which I went for. The tea comes out with a small pot of hot water for you to add to your liking and you can choose between milk or cream. The servers were all pretty nice and they were fine conversing in Cantonese and English. My family truly enjoyed our lunc My family loves their daily lunch specials that that they have posted outside on their chalk board right at the entrance before coming in. My dad chose ox tail, my mom chose curry chicken, while my aunt and I chose their Tsing Yi fish special!! They all came with some bread, a milestone or white cream soup to start and a beverage after the meal. My fish tasted to fresh and nicely peppered. It had plenty of broccoli and corn on the side. Just the right amount of sauce, too. My Mom's curry chicken came with its own bowl of curry and potatoes and separate plate of rice. My Dad's oxtail was similar with its own separate plate of pasta with tomatoes and cucumbers. All their daily lunch specials on the chalkboard were $16.50-19.50, while the ones on their regular lunch special menu are mostly $14.50-$16.50. Pretty good deals, since they are all sets!! Every item was flavourful and well done! They also came with plenty of curry or sauce and right amount of veggies!! Service was fast, attentive and friendly. They also offer cheaper set dinners from Sunday to Thursday evenings, which require at least one--day advance booking and their Friday and Saturday night are slightly more expensive because there is live music singers performing from 7:15-8:45 and karaoke thereafter till closing!! I ordered the Set Lunch A Meat Ball Linguine. The price is great $6.99 includes soup, garlic bread and drink. Please beware you are not eating in a "fine" Italian restaurant. You are eating in a Hong Kong Style western restaurant.... then you will be ok. The Russian Borscht soup is good and steaming hot! There are tons of fresh vegetables inside: cabbage and carrots. This Borscht does not really resemble any authentic Russian cuisine.. if you been to any Hong Kong Style restaurant you will know what I mean. I think they better off naming it as vegetable soup! The pasta at least is Al dente. The sauce tastes like something you get from a can, same with the meat balls, some frozen ones you get from the supermarket. I have to give them credit for putting in fresh green/red pepper, mushrooms and onions in the sauce. For the price and the environment as a Hong Kong Style Western restaurant I will give 3 stars. Located just off woodbine and sort of in between 16th and highway 7, there's a decent amount of parking here on a Sunday evening, this is a small little Inn that has a sort of Hong Kong style slash canadian mixed café, mini restaurant. "La Pizzaetta Restorante" when you hear that you think Italian restaurant, but this is not an Italian restaurant, don't be fooled by the name. Oh, look, another company who uses a name to allure business but not the real thing... how surprising. This is nothing close to anything fine dining or even average dining, more like a breakfasty/lunch place at best. They had some specials that were okay at best. $18.99 for a side, huge piece of grilled chicken, and a German sausage on the side. This also came with a choice drink of Hong Kong style tea or lemon iced tea. If you've ever been to congee Queen or a Chinese place with a chow mein, this is pretty much the same as that, but with some canadian/German food to the mix. Things on the menu for $40, that's got to be a joke, right? The one thing I did like was the chicken was great but honestly, how can you even f**k up chicken? You can't. The person who f**ks up chicken at a restaurant is below the person who can crack an egg at home. Anyways, the German sausage wasn't bad and I had a side of fries. At $18.99 they definitely made money, chicken isnt expensive, one sausage is nothing and fries on the side for $19?! I'd say that the majority of their customers must be a large Chinese following, as the reason why people were going was due to a 10-15% off coupon. I'd say their customer base is also mixed with people who are staying at the hotel. From what it looked like, the place was damn near empty. Had a cheesecake as well for dessert. That was decent and priced okay. Service was pretty on point and they were very polite. 1.5/5 If it wasn't for the service being amazing and they weren't polite they'd lose the .5 and it'd be a 1. I probably wouldn't come here again. If you're staying in the inn, there's a Tim Hortons and a Wendy's just off woodbine towards highway 7. Went here with a friend who suggested going to Monte Carlo. I was thinking that was a hotel and thought the price would be exorbitant. However, I checked Yelp! before and they did say it wasn't too bad price wise. I have to say ambiance and food quality was relatively hotel level. The price isn't though. If I had to compare against Firefly which is close to this restaurant in terms of food, this is SO MUCH better and surprisingly CHEAPER for what you would pay for at Firefly. Although the food was good, it's still too pricey and far to be a default restaurant, but don't let that hold you off, it's still good and I would take friends and clients there. As for food, I had the standard HK cafe multi-course meal: soup, salad main and dessert with a side of coffee/tea and bread. I spent about $25 with tips. I started with a lobster bisque which is pretty much water with a little bit of lobster chunks. However, it is still quite flavorful if not filling. It made me hungrier though, good thing there was a side of bread to tide me by. Then I had the abalone salad. I doubt it's one of those high grade abalone, but it still has the texture and the salt-watery after aroma I expect and like from abalone. It was also given in reasonably sized chunks so it's not too bad. For the main, because I was feeling cheap, I opted for the cheapest thing on their multi course menu which was the Crab Meat Pasta. Oohh that was yummy. Maybe because I had a hankering for mac and cheese with some shellfish for hte past few days and this just hit the spot. For dessert we got pina colada pudding. I never had pina colada pudding before. I do like it. Especially since this had no extra charge compared to the standard cheese cake. For tea, they provided us with proper English tea. So we assembled our own HK style milk tea. It tasted so much better than the ones you get from the other HK cafes. The waiter service was good, not super duper good, but good for the price range you are getting into. Went for lunch, it was my first and last. The place was dated, packed and the noise level was deafening, ten times that of a dim sum restaurant. Only set lunch menu offered, choice of soup was " you want red soup or white?" ie borscht or cream of something? I had borsch and it was like ketchup water with a couple pcs of cabbage. My friend switched soup for salad, an additional $3 .The bread was two half pieces of cold, half toasted wonder bread with garlic butter. The side was mixed diced veges, it was boiled and serve without any seasoning. The side spaghetti was also boiled and served as is, not even a drop of oil. The salmon was 110% cooked, skin was limp like it was sitting under a heat lamp. The pork chops were very sweet, not dry not moist, slightly burnt due to the amount of honey on it. When asked whether they have a wine list, the waiter said " you want red wine?"Then said, "you are having fish, you want white wine?" To that I asked whether they have separate list for red and white wine? Obviously people went there for the " cheap lunch" , who would ask for wine?! The wine looked and tasted watered down. This is located inside Monte Carlo Inn. The restaurant is relatively smallish. I only saw 2 waitors/waitress and the manager/ owner. There was a 4-course meal that included soup (lobster bisque/ clam chowder) or salad (cesear salad or smoke salmon salad), an entree from the menu, dessert (daily) and coffee/ tea. I ordered the Clam Chowder for appetizer and Atlantic Salmon with Terriyaki sauce. The chowder was kind of fishy cause of the clams i guess. I have never had that happen to me before. The Atlantic Salmon took over 30 minutes to come after finishing the appetizer. When it finally arrived, the salmon was small. Rice/ pasta was available with the entree. I chose rice but never knew it would be that little. Also, the salmon, in my opinon, it was seared a little too long for my liking. The sauce was not Terriyaki. It was more soya sauce then sweetness. Dessert was a mango mousse cake. They used have panna cotta but they didnt have it tonight. Btw, if you plan on going frequently, then I recommend you getting the 10% discount card. Quality is below average and the prices do not reflect that. I ordered the salmon salad ($13), the salmon was good but it's quite evident that the salad base was very cheap - 90% iceberg lettuce. The coffee was stale and it didn't taste like coffee at all and their HK style cafe wasn't very good either. I have only been at the Monte Carlo to eat at this restaurant and each time the quality of food disappoints me. Staff: Friendly and helpful. They usually get our food and drink orders quick and they come in a timely manner. Ambience: Nothing special to note. Each time we come it is a larger party and they give us a long table, but they don't have long tablecloths so there's a lot of overlap of small tablecloths on the table making it lack that professional touch. On this Halloween occasion they did decorate with Halloween items, but it was odd to see a bloody machete prop dangling above your head while you eat. Food: Everything seems like it comes out of the box. The fish and chips is the saddest plate I've ever seen. It is a square piece of fish with fries all lackadaisically placed on the plate. Someone I knew ordered the pizza and it was very soggy on the bottom and the pineapple tasted like it was from a can. My friend had the pork chops and they have a nice sweet glaze on it which wasn't too bad but the side veggies look like it came out of a frozen bag. I had the pasta linguine with meatballs and it tasted good but I wish the meatballs were homemade. As a hotel restaurant they need to step up their game a little. Possibly the worst communicating I've ever seen in my entire foodie life. I'm not usually this mean, but from stepping into the restaurant to getting seated was the worst! The lady decided to put us at the back of the entire room while there was room at the front to watch performances. Note that we did do reservations for a Father's Day event. Why should my father and his family be sitting in the back where there is no lighting, while you have tons of tables at the front where there is sufficient lighting to see what you're eating?! As I got seated, I realized I had this candle sitting in front of my face and it was really starting to burn up and i just have smoke running through my nose. I blew it out and the waiter decided it would be fun to re-light it again. I told him that it has been smoke up my face for a very long time now. He finally understood the hint. The food was not really great and the soup tasted like it was from a canned soup. I had the Clam Chowder while my family got the Lobster Bisque. Tasted really thick and just didn't like it at all. The food was overpriced for what you get. One positive mention is that they had Karaoke night on a Friday and the singer was really good. It seems that there are the many regulars who come here to eat and then sing after and have a good time. The atmosphere after the dinner was very nice and relaxing. For dinner, they have set menus: appetizer, main, dessert, drink for 16.99-29.99. I ordered the Honey Mustard Pork Chop - two HUGE pieces of pork served with choice of potato/vegetables or rice/vegetables. I always worry pork will be dry and hard but this was okay. The sauce was pretty good - a sweet honey sauce, couldn't taste the mustard. For appetizer, I chose Lobster Bisque, quite heavy and salty for my taste. On the other hand, the salads looked much better! Spring greens with raspberry/pink dressing, onion, cucumber, tomato, and smoked salmon or parma ham. Dessert was a icy-tasting chocolate/cream cake. When I went on Friday night, it was "karaoke night" where they had someone perform old songs for the duration of our meal. Going there for dinner and it is a Hong Kong style upscale Italian restaurant. The food is average and relatively the price is expensive. We have Seafood Combo that comes with Lobster bisque, Seafood pasta and tea/coffee that costs $35.99. Changing to a different dessert Tiramisu or Cheese cake added another $3. That is almost $40 dinner combo that you can go to a real Italian restaurant. The other combo we ordered are 6oz lobster $33.99, 10oz steak, sole fillet, pig knuckle. The steak is ok. The pig knuckle expected to have more meat but the one served has more skin than meat. They have other set dinner that ranges from $20 to $30+ There is a live singer all the way singing all the various Asian songs. If you consider the restaurant to be a sing and lounge, may be it can justified the price of the meal. read more

La Piazzetta Ristorante is a Hong Kong style cafe serving a Western menu located in a smallish Hotel in Markham. But everything is much more upscale than your typical HK style cafe except the pricing. This is my go-to place in the region when wanting a pleasant sit-down, but non-Asian and casual meal at reasonable prices. I've yet to come across a close 2nd...thus the 4 stars here. read more

Have been here a few times for lunch and it's not bad considering the price. Lunch meals come with a hot beverage, soup /salad, main and dessert coffee/tea. Price range is good and the portions are decent depending on what you get. The chicken steak and pork chops are by far the best value. One large chicken thigh deboned and butterflied is quite large but I have to say the pork chop meal comes with TWO large pork chops! Just don't expect anything to blow you out of the water. It's mediocre food for a good price.... Not as good as HK cafes. Their starter soups are nothing special, choose from cream of mushroom, borscht or add $2 for French onion - but trust me when I say this, don't bother. Most of the patrons are over 50 LOL read more
