I have to say they're are a little cheap as it was my birthday I thought they would give the dessert for free but they charged for the dessert it's all good, let's start of with the calamari, really crispy and tender in the inside expensive like crazy, for entree we ordered rigatoni vodka, papperdalle funghi, and chicken Parmesan, the rigatoni vodka was out of this world, very creamy pasta was cooked al dente and they make fresh pasta here, that's a first, the vodka sauce tasted delicious had a rich tomatoe flavor but super creamy, the papperdalle funghi tasted amazing as well and the chicken Parmesan tasted amazing a billion times better than Sugo. The service was excellent, the waiter was attentive, and the ambiance just seemed a bit claustrophobic as there wasn't much space in the restaurant, if you want to eat here for dinner it is highly recommended to reserve online. We tried out a few of their dishes including their calamari, rigatoni vodka, and their prime striploin. They also offer complimentary bread. My favourite dishes were their calamari and rigatoni. Calamari was crispy, light, and the sauce complemented well. The rigatoni sauce was very delicious but the pasta was a tiny bit undercooked. Il Postino is one of my favorite Italian restaurants in the city and, in my opinion, much better than many of the overhyped downtown spots. The interior is cozy and intimate with its dim lighting, though the tables are a little close together. I personally prefer the patio more since the fairy lights make it feel more romantic and make it perfect for a date night. Service was attentive, with our server checking in often to make sure drinks were topped up and that we were enjoying everything. We started with the Mushroom Truffle Pizza, which was thin, flavorful, and earthy. For mains, we shared three pastas, which were the Rigatoni Vodka (a must-order), the Seafood Linguine, and the daily special Beef Sirloin Pasta with peppercorn sauce. The Rigatoni Vodka was delicious as always, though cooked slightly more al dente than I prefer. The Seafood Linguine had great balance, with the shrimp and mussels adding a nice briny flavor and a touch of umami. The standout was the Sirloin Pasta, the peppercorn sauce was rich, savory, and so good that I think it deserves a permanent spot on the menu. For drinks, we had an off-menu Espresso Martini, a Hugo Spritz, and the House Sangria with white wine. The sangria was the clear winner as it was refreshing, citrusy, and almost candy-like! This is my third time here. First two times I completely forgot to write a review but I just remember ordering the usual caprese salad and a pasta. Definitely cannot come here and expect big portions because it's more of a high end Italian restaurant. They have quite a lot of seats including upstairs but it's best to make a reservation to ensure availability. The pastas are always a hit. This time we ordered practically the entire menu including the specials as well. Our bill was just under 1k. I didn't even get the chance to take all the pics as my family likes to eat the food as soon as it hits the table. I enjoyed everything including the octopus, but the only miss, in my opinion, were the pizzas. We ordered 4 pizzas, the crust was very hard, not very kind to the gums. I came to meet a girlfriend for lunch, this was my first time here as she's been here several times. We came here around 12:30 and it was getting quite busy on the patio. Service was great from start to finish. My friend got her go to, the orchiette sausuge and rapini - finished the whole plate! While I got the tagliatelle ragu and finished majority of it and brought the rest home, it was a large portion! We finished off with a homemade tiramisu which was really good as well. I got grilled chicken in my pasta for some protein however a grilled chicken breast add on was $14!!! It was so expensive. Every dish was missing something! The chef was lacking some fundamentals in cooking especially flavouring. After ordering our food, we were first served with bread soaked in a whole plate of olive oil. Yes, a whole plate of olive oil! So gross! Now the salads. Without the chicken it was so flavorless. The prosciutto and burrata was plain again. The burrata was even more flavorless than the most mild mozzarella cheese! It just tasted like water. They have an outdoor area to sit, seating inside as well (although it's a more intimate area for smaller groups). The servers are so friendly and seem so knowledgeable about the food and drink. Tons of parking in the back, so you can grab a spot instead of walking from the large lot beside the conservation area. Took my gf here for a belated valentine's day dinner recently. Made a reservation a month in advance for 7pm on OpenTable with no issues. Super smooth. There's designated parking for the resto behind the building (the corridors are single vehicle between the buildings so just be mindful). It's very cozy inside. It's literally a house that's been converted into a resto. There's 2 floors of seating (w/ extra washrooms on the 2nd floor). Now I had seen a special valentine's menu posted on their website but unfortunately, the waitress informed us that they weren't serving it anymore. She did notify us that there were 3 specials in place (the seafood risotto piqued our interest for sure). Complimentary bread (w/ sea salt and olive oil) arrived at our table before we even ordered. For mains we ordered a seafood linguine and tagliatelle ragu. The seafood in the linguine was super fresh and the tomatoes really sang in the sauce. But my gf and I agreed that the tagliatelle was our favourite because it had both pork and veal in the ragu and it tasted soooo savoury. There was just a lil extra umami in the sauce. The pasta in both dishes was cooked perfectly al dente though. They only served 2 desserts the night we went. A lemon cheesecake w/ blueberry compote and tiramisu. Since we both had some room left, we got both. The cheesecake was not as tart as I thought it would be. Rather, it was subtle and I thought the crust could've been better imo. It was slightly too soft (I would've preferred a harder crust). The tiramisu was excellent though. On the same level as Nonna Lia which I think makes the best tiramisu in the city. Would definitely order the tiramisu again. We washed everything down w/ a nice bit of pinot grigio shared between us. On my next visit I'm hoping they serve veal chop as one of my close friends had it and he said it was simply exquisite. My dad's friend also claimed that the seafood platter was also very delicious so I might take a closer look at that as well in the future. The beef was so tender and paired well with the arugula Caprese - tomatoes were delicious, cheese was mild and delicious. Very small platter Calamari - so crispy and light! Small plate again for the price it is, but it was also yum! Mains Ragu - the pasta itself was perfectly al dente. Nice texture. The sauce was mediocre. I wish there was more depth and richness to the sauce but it was alright. Garnished with a few basil leaves and stingy on the Parmesan cheese on top: I've never been to a place where when you tell them you love lots of parm, they only give you a small bit. Chicken parm - chicken breast was tender. Fried perfectly and pairs well with the marinara sauce Veal special - so this was recommended as the dish of the day. Visually looks delicious. Flavour? You get a hit of lots of lemon and mayonnaise. I think that this was probably the biggest disappointment of the entire night. They make good pasta. I'd come back to try the other types of pasta. It was a bit busy and noisy on the main floor so we got seated on the second floor. This was a Tuesday night and it was pretty busy. So the restaurant is obviously popular. I suggest making a reservation, as we did. Food here is amazing as always. Perfectly thin battered calamari, delicious truffle mushroom pizza and very flavourful seafood linguini. My friends also ordered the veal parmigiana and grilled branzino. They liked their dishes as well. No take out from this dinner. It's a restaurant located in the quaint Unionville area with some parking at the back and in the public parking across it (around the trails). The place looks homey with vintage paintings on the walls. It looked like a grand house turned into a restaurant. There is a patio seating outside but it was too chilly today. The warm bread with rosemary leaves came out and I was like - oh, it tastes soooo good. Now I can't wait to taste the pizza dough. Two apps were ordered: rucola which had a nice dressing on it. Sadly, COVID regulations have forced shut downs in York Region as of today. My last meal before heading down to the bunker was at Il Postino, and what a last supper it was! Il Postino, hands-down, has the BEST pasta I've ever had. We've been to Il Postino a couple times and I have had the privilege to try 3 different pastas (also apps and desserts but they weren't as memorable). The first was a shrimp linguine, which was ultra savoury with roasted garlic and perfectly cooked shrimp. Still think about it to this day. While we didn't see this on their recent Fall menu, we had the opportunity to try the Pasta Puttanesca and Funghi Fettucine. The Puttanesca had the most complex tomato sauce I've ever tasted, nicely salted with olives. The Fettucini Funghi...oh my goodness. Creamy, truffle-y, and the thick noodles were absolutely amazing. Not gonna pretend I'm an expert in Italian cuisine...Markham is definitely not the place you think of for "genuine European restaurants". And unfortunately, I've never been to Italy. But damn...if you're really in the mood for sauce and carbs in the GTA, you gotta try them at Il Postino! read more
