    Peach Prosciutto and Burrata (recommend!)
    Brandyn T.

A nice upscale Italian restaurant with some Asian flavour influence (eg. bulgogi, kimchi, miso). We reserved via OpenTable for a table of 6 for a Saturday evening with no issues. FOOD (4.5/5) Our table decided we want to try lots of items and share them amongst the table. From the shareables menu, we ordered the Beef Tartare, Salmon Crudo, Fruitti de Mare (calamari and shrimp platter), and the Prosciutto and Buratta. The Beef Tartare was textbook; cut evenly, seasoned well and balanced, good portions. It is served with buttered sourdough bread which when eaten together with tartare provides great textural contrast. Definitely recommend! The Salmon Crudo was a bit more on the acidic side but since the salmon was smoked, the saltiness and umami cut through the acid. Good dish, but my least favourite of the 4 starters. The Frutti de Mare was a platter of calamari, breaded shrimp, and artichoke. Staple Italian dish with decent portion of each seafood. Well made, though the breading was a bit loose and crumbly. The Prosciutto and Buratta dish was the most surprising! It's served with roast peach slices and a glaze that is to die for. The saltiness of the prosciutto cure, creaminess of the buratta, topped with the sweet tangy peach and glaze is the perfect bite. The peach could've been roasted a bit more for more even caramelization, but still amazing nonetheless. This by far was the most memorable dish of the evening for me! Super recommend! For entrees we ordered the Miso Carbonara Zozzona, Spicy Chicken Rigatoni, and the Mushroom and Truffle Mafalda. The miso carbo udon was quite untraditional as it uses a miso tomato base instead of cream. The guanciale gives it nice bursts of saltiness and umami. A decent dish, but not my fave. The Spicy Chicken Rigatoni has a creamy rose sauce with well seasoned chicken. Definitely packs the biggest punch of the pasta dishes we got. The Mushroom Mafalda had a really earthy and rustic flavour palette. If you love mushrooms, this is a must get. Although it was vegetarian, the mushrooms in the pasta provided enough textural contrast to act as a protein. AMBIENCE (4/5) The restaurant interior is covered with white marble flooring and modern decor. The main dining area has banquette seating along the perimeter. There is also a private dining room to the left of the entrance that I believe can be booked with a minimum spend. SERVICE (4.5/5) Staff were really friendly and helpful throughout the meal; answered questions about the menu, brought out sharing plates, and refreshed plates and cutlery. There was a large party also dining that was really loud and standing around, and when we asked the staff they said the other patrons should be seated soon and if not they would ask them to take a seat. They also do cake cutting at no additional cost (compared to $5/head at some places). LOCATION (3.5/5) Acknowledging this is in Richmond Hil located at East Beaver Creek and Highway 7 in the Congee Queen plaza, it's easily accessible by car via Hwy 404. Buses are available along Hwy 7 as well. VALUE (4/5) Portions and quality of ingredients are fantastic here for a reasonable price. Great pricepoint for a date night or celebrating an occassion. OVERALL (4.5/5) A fantastic Italian option in the area and uses a moderate amount of Asian influenced flavours to appeal to the area. Bearing in mind there are far fancier and better Italian places downtown, I think Osteria Mattarello stands it's ground in the market it's in. Personally I enjoyed the starters/shareables much better than the pasta mains. The vibe is so clean, modern, upscaled but not snobby. Casual enough you can show up in a sweater and jeans and feel you fit in. Really recommend!

Nice Italian restaurant. Cozy high ceiling dining area. Great service. Good food. A bit more fusion than I wanted. The pasta was a hit or miss for me. One of two has always been meh. But overall good vibes.

prosciutto burrata n peaches - A white plate contains pasta garnished with prosciutto slices, fresh basil leaves, and a sauce, placed on a marble table. Surrounding the plate are two glasses of water, two cocktails with mint leaves, a menu, and a glass water pitcher. The background shows a restaurant interior with chairs and a table set with glasses and utensils.

Beautiful restaurant located in the heart of commerce valley in Markham. The menu was small & curated so not a lot of options but we believe that each dish was prepared well. Our favourites were the mushroom truffle mafalda & grilled peaches with prosciutto & burrata. The server was very nice and gave his recommendations on what to order.

A dish of shrimp risotto is presented on a white, oval-shaped plate. The risotto appears creamy with visible grains of rice and small green herbs. Four cooked shrimp are arranged on top, garnished with microgreens. The background shows a marble countertop, indicating a restaurant or home setting.

Mattarello is a great choice for a celebration dinner. It is beautifully decorated - intimate, romantic, contemporary and classy. And so we came here to celebrate a birthday. We shared a Sicilian Salmon Crudo as appetizer, a Branzino Seabass Filet and a Shrimp Risotto as entrees, and ended with a Tiramisu dessert. The food tasted good, not excellent, and was a good value based on the price. The services was so good that it compared well against bigger and more established restaurants in GTA. Not only was our server effective and efficient, he was also courteous, kind with smiles, attentive when we looked for assistance and left us alone when we wanted to be so. The overall dining experience was nice. Will recommend, will return.

Unfortunately I did not think the food was really good or special. I've been to a lot Italian restaurants around the area and this one doesn't compare unfortunately. the mushroom pasta was bland, didn't have much taste. And this was a HEFTY price for $36. For mushroom cream pasta and some truffle. The pizza is probably the best one out of the dishes we had. I did like the honey on top but again, nothing special. It didn't stand out. But again, expensive for $20. The $20 calamari was most disappointing. It was a very small dish and for that price i expect more than just 2 small squid and 2 tiny tentacles. At this price point, I would get a larger portion somewhere else. Overall I was disappointed for the price point I expected better and portions to be decent and quality to be up to par for the high end prices that they charge per dish.

This place looks nice, and the service was good (to my table) so I will give it two stars. The food itself is mostly unforgettable or quite mediocre. For example, the pizza dough was very tough and chewy -- I could hardly cut through it with a knife. Don't charge $36 for a truffle pasta then shave one or two slices of truffle on it. It would be better just to call it a mushroom pasta and use normal mushrooms so that you can give a non-insulting portion of the ingredient. The grilled calamari was okay. We were going to try dessert, but then there was a huge argument the next table over about seating timing where both staff and patrons were getting somewhat heated. This is probably not a place to go back to when there are a great deal of great Italian restaurants all over the place. I'd rather go back to their original place (Tapagria) where the food is more consistent.

The perk of living in Markham is endless amounts of delicious Asian food! But it also means a lack of western food, so I was excited when I saw that a new Italian spot opened up in Richmond Hill. The interiors were modern and clean and quite spacious. But to my surprise the hostess that seated us doubled as a server/food runner who was working with only one other server the entire night, which was inadequete for a restaurant of that size. We had: Heirloom Tomato Carpaccio: This was straight up tomato burrata salad which I don't know why they would label it anything else. The grilled mushrooms, tomato, cheese and herbs didn't really go well together IMO Amberjack Crudo & Sicilian Slaw: It sounded good on the menu but there was just way too much going on. The amberjack was sliced really thick and quite fishy and the medley of slaw, tangerines, herbs, hot peppers and side of lemon did not complement each other. Sweet Carne: This was the best thing we had IMO. Was a bit light on the hot soppressata but the flavors were good from the caramelized sweet onions Duck Confit Ravioli: I had high hopes for this, however the brown butter sauce tasted like flavorless oil, it didnt have many other dimensions and the duck inside didn't have much flavor either Parmesan Truffle Fries: This was one of my favourites. It reminded me of elevated McDonalds fries with truffle aoili (you can't go wrong) Hazelnut Zeppole: I was told this was a yummy classic fried donut with custard. The donut was so dry and not soft at all. We had one bite and left it and told the server we didn't like it. She didn't even offer to replace it and just said okay. Quite possibly the worst dessert I've ever had served to me I knew I shouldn't have had high hopes for non-Asian food in this area but this really disappointed me on so many levels. Definitely a skip for me

Mushroom truffle Parpadelle - A plate of mushroom truffle pappardelle pasta features wide, flat noodles coated in a creamy sauce with sliced mushrooms and chopped green onions. Topping the dish are slices of black truffle and crumbled ground meat, garnished with additional chopped green onions. The presentation emphasizes the ingredients' textures and flavors, with a focus on the truffle and mushroom components.

Happy there's a new italian place in Richmond Hill! Grilled Calamari Margherita Pizza Sweet Carne Pizza Duck Confit Ravioli Mushroom Truffle Parpadelle Hazelnut Zeppole Pistachio Tiramisu Millefoglie My favorites were the calamari and the mushroom truffle Parpadelle is one of my favorites of all time! It was very creamy and full of mushrooms and some shaved Truffle. The pizzas were full of toppings and a medium crust, not too thick and not too thin. The duck confit ravioli however was disappointing as the shredded duck inside was dry and not flavorful. There was nothing special about the zeppole but the millefoglie was beautiful and not too sweet, but a but too bitter from the dark chocolate.

We were one of three other tables dining in for lunch close to 1 p.m. so it was quite empty for a weekend lunch. There is plenty of parking available in front of the restaurant. Inside, the space has been newly renovated to reflect a very classy and elegant atmosphere. Even the washrooms are newly renovated and match the rest of the restaurant's marble and gold elements (they provide Aveeno moisturizing lotion as well as Listerine mouthwash). The faux marble tables in the high-ceiling dining room are well spaced out, and there is a semi-open dining room for a small private party on the other side of the restaurant. Mattarello soft opened on August 18 and their grand opening was on September 8, 2022. We visited on August 28. The menu isn't very large and it was shocking to me that the prices were so high. I didn't look on their website ahead of time to peruse the menu and didn't expect these prices (resembling upscale restaurants in downtown Yorkville). The "Bread and Butter" in the appetizer section was $12 alone! We ordered three things to share and all three items were delicious and very top notch quality. For what it's worth, the elevated prices do reflect the freshness, quality, and taste of the food. Just be mindful of this before booking a meal at Mattarello. It's also not a very toddler-friendly restaurant. It's meant for small groups, romantic dates, corporate meals for adults. The service was attentive but needs improvement. Our server came back twice to personally refill DH's glass of water from the water pitcher. My mom and I had mugs of hot water with lemon and they weren't refilled. The server also misheard me. I told her to just remove one water glass from the table, but she removed two. She also took away the fourth set of cutlery assuming that the toddler wouldn't need any utensils without asking us first. It took a little bit of time for the food to arrive (15 to 20 minutes). We all found it odd that the pizza was served on a metal Chinese food steamer with three legs. It didn't quite seem to fit the atmosphere of the sophisticated restaurant and also wasn't very practical because when we were taking slices of the pizza to eat, the steamer didn't hold up the pizza sturdily and the entire plate of pizza would become lopsided and fall down. The server noticed this too and came over to help. I hope they realize that while placing the pizza up on a higher pedestal looks better aesthetically, it isn't sensible because the pizza holder isn't sturdy enough. The food: The Tuscan Sunset pizza ($24) had grilled chicken, sundried tomatoes, goat cheese, and bianco sauce on it. This had six pre-cut slices and was simply one of the best pizzas I've had in an Italian restaurant. The pizza was so gooey with goat cheese and creamy bianco sauce. It was the perfect amount of savouriness too. The crust was not like your typical bland dry crust. I would highly recommend ordering their pizza (I have a feeling that all of their pizzas are just as delicious). The Homemade Pesto Gnocchi ($26) was a large hollowed plate of potato gnocchi with basil pesto, buffalo mozzarella, and thyme pine nuts. It appeared as a very delicate portion, as we expected. The potato gnocchi was pillowy soft. I made the mistake of not digging into this dish when it was first served on the table as the gnocchi probably would have tasted even more pillowy soft before it cooled down. The Squid Ink Arancini ($14) arrived with three portions to share and was much generous than I anticipated. This appetizer item was unique and delicious. The exterior shell was lightly battered and fried while the rice inside was soft and tasted of squid ink. The tomato sauce accompanying it was rich and savory. This was a very upscale Italian restaurant in the Thornhill/Richmond Hill area and I would recommend it if you are looking for a high quality authentic Italian meal to splurge on.

We went there to celebrate my friend's birthday. The restaurant is very pretty. The food is fantastic. And the service is superb. We brought our own cake and they didn't charge extra for that. Instead they provided a beautiful cake stand and even gave my friends a birthday card. The waitress is so professional and nice. The way she served our table makes us feel special. We will definitely come back again!

This is a hidden gem in Markham for Italian food and the restaurant is conveniently located on Hwy 7/Hwy 404 with lots of parking spaces! We first noticed their signage but wasn't sure what this place was, so we looked it up online and decided to give it a try! Here's that vibe we got when we first walked in, we were greeted by the host (or waitress) then to our table by the booth. High ceiling, geometric interior decor with swatches of dark teal chairs/booths. Our waitress was very helpful when giving us suggestions! Their food was very flavourful and the Pesto Gnocchi was my favorite! The Bolognese was a bit strong but was still very tasty. If you're in the area, give this place try! I'll definitely return for their pizza & pastas!

Parmesan Truffle fries - A serving of French fries is presented on a black plate, topped with grated Parmesan cheese and shredded cheese, garnished with herbs. A small white cup containing a creamy, speckled dipping sauce is placed beside the fries. The background includes a marble table surface and some out-of-focus objects, indicating a casual dining setting.

The design of this restaurant is very chic, perfect for gathering! The food however is mediocre, there are dishes that we order stood out to us but the others were just alright. The arancini is a must because the batter is very crispy and light and the rice is soft and seasoned perfectly on the inside. The tomato sauce compliment perfectly with the arancini. You can taste chunks of tomatoes in the sauce which adds more texture to the dish and the burst of sweetness from the tomatoes is just heaven in your mouth! The pepperoni pizza isss delicious!! they added honey on top of the pepperoni and it's my first time having this combination. The sweet and salty worked perfectly. This is a must get and you will not regret it! Even the crust of the pizza was good. The shrimp pizza was a bit bland in comparison to the pepperoni pizza, it was just okay for me as nothing stands out. The duck ravioli was a big disappointment as it might've not been seasoned at all. I don't taste anything but maybe the butter? It's just not good. The duck filling is shreds of duck meat, soggy and not seasoned. It's a NO for me. The seafood pasta, same-thing very bland. Although the pasta was cooked perfectly, it lacks seasoning. The Bolognese was the most flavourful pasta out of the 3. It's seasoned perfect and the tomato sauce coated the pasta perfectly. Every strand of the tagliatelle is coated with the meat and tomato sauce, It's delicious. Again, you can taste the sweetness of the tomatoes. I think it's the same tomato base as the arancini. Highly recommend this one. The Calamari is tender but i personally didn't think the the sauce goes well with the calamari. The sauce itself is very refreshing because is a bit sweet and tangy. But combining them together is just okay. The truffle fries was a bit salty for my taste. As for Zeppole, i would not recommend it, it did not tats the fresh and the bread taste kinda like it's been sitting out for too long. The hazelnut filling was also not good. Overall i might give this place another try because there were dishes that i love! I am hoping the chef was having one of those days and the quality of the food can be improved! Also the staff was very friendly and the atmosphere is great!
