1/5 bad service by the middle-aged white lady with braided hair in uniform. 4/5 overall service 4/5 food We're repeated patrons. I failed to make phone reservations for dinner tonight, when I called their number & prompted to talk to someone, the line got cut many times, so we had to walk in. There was a middle-aged white lady in uniform with braided hair who responded rudely by saying their phone kept ringing all day and didn't understand why I got cut out, I told I could show her my phone record. I don't understand why she could be so rude, do I have to make up story for dinner!!!! As a server or waitress or floor manager, she needs basic demeanour to treat their customers, otherwise please stay out of dining floor. [[HIGHLIGHT]]We ended up seating in the patio which was not bad.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Other young server was good and apologetic when I shared by phone reservation experience. Food wise, the bread on basket was cold, the pizza was a bit salty, otherwise all other foods were fresh and delicious. We recommend this restaurant but service could be better!
Decided to try out this Italian restaurant in the middle of downtown Markham this past weekend and loved it! I came here in a party of two and ordered a pizza and pasta to share. We found this to be substantial and well worth the price for the quality! The pasta tasted extremely fresh and the pizza diavola was the right amount of spicy. Servers were very friendly and were able to answer any questions about the menu items. Will definitely be back next time to try the other items on the menu. [[HIGHLIGHT]]A beautiful family-owned Italian restaurant in the heart of downtown Markham![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I've been here twice now and both times were pleasant surprises. They have a menu featuring pizza, pasta, and risotto, as well as their most famous seafood platter for the table. They also have an extensive separate menu full of daily specials which I love. On my most recent visit, my group of 6 ordered the following: - Daily Special Insalata: An assortment of deli meats with peaches, cucumbers, and burrata. This was an alright appetizer to share but I think I might choose something else next time like a caprese. 7/10 - Diavola Pizza: Spicy in the best way, but paled in comparison to the daily special (see below). 8/10 - Daily Special Pizza: White sauce pizza with prosciutto, fior di latte, and figs, topped with some alfalfa sprouts for garnish. First of all, this pizza was PRETTY. It also tasted spectacular, the saltiness of the prosciutto and the sweetness of the figs paired so well! I wish it was on the regular menu, I'd probably order it all the time. 10/10 - Seafood mixed board: The star of the show. Board including calamari, chicken, steak, tuna, shrimp, octopus, broccoli, carrots, and fries. The first time I was here I found it quite salty but this time around it was better. I find the fries and vegetables a little lacklustre but my favourite is the octopus and steak. 8/10 [[HIGHLIGHT]]This is the perfect place to go after a night at the movies or if you're in the area![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]
First time here and it turned out pretty good. The service was good. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I liked the decor of the place very modern.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Of course you have to do the pasta at an Italian restaurant. I got the mushroom truffle fettuccine. It was good. A little more sauce would've been good. We had the beet salad which was also decent. And my friend got the clams and white wine sauce which she enjoyed. I was very impressed with their dessert menu!! So many items!! I gotta comeback for that
Just tried this place on the weekend and the food is really good! Their pizza texture is true to Italian pizza and their pasta is also delicious! Located in the heart of downtown Markham. I think this statement really stands out and not in a good way because I did not feel welcomed at all. I approached the door and Marc, which I found out was the manager on duty was there and I asked if I could sit on the patio with my dog. He ignored me and walked inside. I was completely confused and went inside to ask and again he looked at me and ignored me. Am I not allowed because I have a dog? No problem. I could leave, even through there was another patron on the patio with a dog. Is it because I'm Indian? I don't know. Not very welcoming. My server, Samantha was lovely. Attentive and I really appreciated her and her service while I was there. I did tip her well because she should not be blamed for a manager who does not know how to welcome people. I ordered the Pennoni Con Ragu Napoletano, Ricotta Salata. It came out quickly and was cold and the pasta was more than al dente. It was hard. I opted to just have dessert and water. I think my first impression when entering turned me off the whole dining experience. I tried to make the best of it but the food being cold and hard pasta was just disappointing. My server, Samatha again, was extremely kind and voided the meal. I ordered a tiramisu and a cappuccino. I was hungry and wanted something to enjoy while watching the Canada Day festivities at downtown Markham. The tiramisu was delish, except for the random addition of rum soaked raisins and the cappuccino was on point! No complaints at all about dessert. Overall, my impression when I first entered was just a turnoff and I will never revisit. If you are having a bad day, stressed. I get that but maybe don't take your frustrations out on customers. It was just upsetting and I really didn't feel like I was welcomed at the restaurant. The server, she was amazing. They are lucky to have her because I probably would have walked out if it wasn't for her. I tipped her well. She really deserved it!

The service was top-notch, with the staff being super friendly and attentive. Our server was knowledgeable about the menu and took the time to guide us through the selection process, ensuring that every dish was tailored to our preferences. The ambiance was nice as well, with cozy lighting and a welcoming atmosphere. Their menu reflects a dedication to quality and flavour. I ordered the fettuccine with mushrooms and the penne in rose sauce. The fettuccine was cooked perfectly al dente, and the mushroom sauce was rich and flavorful. The penne in rose sauce was creamy and had just the right amount of tanginess from the tomatoes.
Costa Sorrento is my first choice in Markham whenever I have craving for authentic Italian food. Conveniently located in Downtown Markham with plenty of parking! I had been here numerous of time. Every visit was memorable: from the food to the service. Wine by the glass and cocktails are reasonably priced. My dinner mate always ended up ordering the Seafood Linguine and I always try to order something different every visit and never been disappointed. I love how they always have a "daily" special menu. The items are seasonals and make me want to try something new and different. Highly recommended if you want to have a taste of Italy in Markham.
We've been wanting to visit Costa sorrento for a while! We hear good things about their fresh pastas and they certainly did not disappoint! The interior is nice and cozy. We'd recommend getting their seafood with rose sauce pasta - that one was delish! In addition to their brussel sprouts with octopus. We celebrated my birthday there - and got the tiramisu. It was hilarious because a robot brought the cake out and it sang happy birthday hahaha Service was great - our servers were very attentive. Would come back to try their pizzas!
One of the things I love most about Mediterranean cuisine is their rustic dishes that don't require much fuss. This place balances modern food presentation with the dishes that I would imagine can be found in Italy. I mean, you know it's legit when they serve you the whole fish and not just a filet. My only criticism is that I did find some of the dishes to be a bit overpriced.
We came to dinner at this restaurant with a large group, for a company function to celebrate an important event. The decor, lighting and interior design look prestigious with a nice display of the bar. Music was not too loud. Great first impression. Right off the bat, my level of expectations has set a bar that everything else is now measured against. Service was comparable to that of a hotel when you check-in. What can I do for you instead of - I know why you are here and I want to take you on a fine dining experience that I want you to remember. Is mediocre customer service the new standard? Don't get me wrong. Service was not particularly bad, but remember the bar that I set? I am using the opinion of my colleagues to blend in mine to produce a weighted average for this rating. Food was good generally. This is Italian cuisine and I like their website statement "We bring the flavours of Italy right to your table". I am no Italian food critic but I take comments from colleagues of Italian roots, who know one or two things about Italian fine cuisine. Restaurant is trying hard to deliver authentic Italian dishes. I love the fish which was a whole grilled Adriatic sea bass, the taste, the way most of the spines were removed and how it was presented. I also like the ricotta pear cake - delicious although the ricotta should have been more fluffy. A review is not entirely complete if the washroom has not been inspected. I went in one of the three unisex washrooms which I hope is representative of all the washrooms. Not too bad, relatively clean, but slightly disappointed not seeing a washroom that would give me that level of confidence of sanitization. Apart from the auto faucet and the Dyson Airblade hand dryer which is a great start, some touchfree washroom product automation would have been nice to see.
I went here two nights in a row. It was that good. Everything on the menu was so good and came out of the kitchen quickly. You will not be disappointed.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Came on a Saturday and sat at the patio since the weather was really nice.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]We were able to choose whatever table we wanted as long as it was available and there were not a lot of people initially so that was nice.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service however was just decent later on but we noticed there were a lot more people came so our server was probably really busy due to the influx of diners. The food did come pretty fast though, about 20 minutes after ordering, so that was really good! We ordered the Fettuccine Al Funghi E Scaglie Di Tartufo Nero and Bologna. Both were really delicious. We added chicken for the pasta but I'd say even without it, just the mushroom itself was sufficient already! I had it once before and came back this time for more because it was that good! The pizza was quite interesting since I've never had pistachio pesto on a pizza before but it actually tasted pretty good and blended nicely with the mortadella. I'd have it again if I were to come back! Overall a pretty decent dining experience and would come back for the same food! read more
Tip: This restaurant has a market where you can get dried pasta, snacks, gelato, and more. On Wednesday, I had a wonderful early dinner at Good Catch Cafe and Bar. Sadly, this eatery didn't have a dessert menu. I wanted something small to satisfy my sweet tooth, as I was stuffed. I wondered if Costa Sorrento had dessert that I could take home. I walked over to this restaurant. I was already parked in the lot across from Good Catch. I walked in. A small market was in front of me. Gelato was on my right in the freezer. Yay! A male staffer came over to greet me, who was a bit hard of hearing. I let him know that I was here for the market. He nodded and let me be. I was so happy to see candy, sugar, salt, pasta, chocolate, and a lot more. It was wonderful. I got these items: - A small cup of Biscoff gelato - Black truffle luxury mixed nuts - Frizzy lemon candies I asked the man where I could pay for these items. He guided me to the cash area at the bar. The downside to this market is that you don't see prices. He knew how much the gelato cup cost. He didn't know about the other two, so he had to call a colleague. It's funny, but it ended up being a group effort to figure out pricing and cash me out. Two other female staffers also joined in. It's not exactly a cheap market. I suspect that the mixed nuts and lemon candies were imports. They were $10 each. My small gelato was $5. I'm glad that I didn't commit to getting a pint. What if I hated what I had? I also wanted a small dessert, so it worked out. I paid with a credit card. I tapped. Done! I asked if I could get a spoon for my gelato. One of the nice women went into the back to get one. The other woman let me know that they used to give out big spoons, but had gelato spoons now. I got a blue spoon with a napkin from the woman. Service is great here. I thanked everyone and left with my goods. I declined getting a bag, as I was parked closed by. I enjoyed my Biscoff gelato in my car. It was yummy. I'd get the pint next time. It had bits of Biscoff that were so flavourful in creamy gelato. OMG! It was delightful and the perfect dessert to end my meal. Yesterday, I devoured my bag of black truffle mixed nuts. If you love black truffle oil and mixed nuts, grab a bag. The cashews, walnuts, almonds, and more were huge. I'd get another bag in a heartbeat. Tasty! I may have to come back and get the black truffle potato chips next. I'm sure they are equally as yummy. I haven't tried the lemon candies yet. I hope that they are delightful. Recommended by my boss and colleagues, but I found it a bit pricey with the quality of food. Food and presentation are not impressive at all. The highlight is the raisin with rum in the dessert LOL Don't think I will return .... read more

I ain't an Italian food fan but this place ain't half bad. Service is decent and the food was fairly well executed. The ambience within the restaurant is very comforting with the high ceiling, open-view kitchen, wine rack display on the wall, etc. Their menu provides a fairly good selection ranging from pasta to pizza to steak. Also, a fairly good selection on their wine list. Overall, a fairly decent place for a meal if you have a party of 8 or 10 people - or even if it's just you and the better half. I had the pleasure of dining out with some friends a little over a week ago. We enjoyed some great tasting Italian food at Costa Sorrento in their private dining room. We had mostly a custom menu and everything tasted amazing, from start to finish. We started with a platter of preserved meats and vegetables with some cheese and crostini. Great start! Next came some delicious house-made anchovies, pizza, and their Fritto Di Scoglio platter (Fried calamari, shrimp, smelts, basil aioli). A very delicious pasta dish was next. The pasta and meat sauce had the perfect consistency and flavour! It was delicious! Everything tasted amazing and we were feeling stuffed BUT there was more to come! These were just the appetizers! What??? Every course, except the pasta, was served family style and the next course was impressive! This platter had Lamb Chops, Steak, Chicken, Sausages, Grilled Vegetables, and Fries with Truffle Oil. Very impressive! It was time to shift gears and dig in to this great looking platter! OMG! Everything tasted as good as it looked! Perfectly cooked meats with amazing flavours! Yummm! Now we were really stuffed but then dessert showed up! Damn! Gotta loosen the belt for this. Most of us could only manage a taste of each and it was all very good! At the end of the night, we were all very stuffed with delicious authentic Italian food and we actually had leftovers from each course. There was a lot of food! And it was all outstanding! As was the service! Of course, it wouldn't be an Italian meal without wine, red wine. I didn't get a look at the label but it was very enjoyable. I may have had a cocktail too. Enjoyed a great Canada Day dinner before taking in the fireworks. The place was packed and the host was saying it might take an hour to get our food when seating us because the kitchen was backed up. Despite that, we enjoyed a nice leisurely dinner served by our wonderful waitress, that seemed to fly by. The menu is not huge but has a decent number of vegetarian options ... many more than my last visit before the pandemic. We tried the bocconcini vegetarian pizza roll appetizer, the signature zucchini pasta and the rucola white pizza (to which I added kalamata olives) as entrees. We really enjoyed every dish. They were all well prepared, and seasoned to allow you to appreciate the tastes of the high quality ingredients, which worked together nicely. We shared an affogato for desert which was made with their house made gelato which was very good. Best meal I have had in quite some time. Will have to come back more regularly. read more

As I went with my friends on a Saturday night during COVID, we made sure we made reservations but after we were seated at 8:15pm, we did not get our food until after 9pm! I would know as I was hungry and ready to eat! Our server did not care about us as he was busy chatting up other tables and one in particular that was already finished eating. It was not until we had to ask about our food that another waitress goes up to the man and he tells us that they are just plating it now. I felt like it was a lie as the tables were all served before us and there weren't any more tables that haven't been served yet. He was too busy chatting. The food was forgotten and hastily brought up to us. One of my friends and I got the same pasta dish and both agreed that it was cold and the side pieces of rigatoni were "air" dried which dulled the taste. Had it been warmer, the taste would have been better. I do not like making the distinction but it was so noticeable I had to point it out. In a town that is so multicultural, the restaurant should be embracing the different types of people that come to try out authentic Italian cuisine. I felt excluded with my friends as we did not have even 10% of the attention that some of the other tables were receiving. Our waiter spoke a total of 4 sentences to us compared to the full on conversations other tables were receiving. Two people in particular (the older man and woman who worked there) even began sitting with diners who had their food and just chatted. If you want to act like the owners, don't be servers. They are two different jobs entirely! Never have I ever posted a 1 star review. But this definitely deserves it. What good is a restaurant if you isolate yourselves to a certain type of clientele when you have people that are willing to make this spot a regular? read more

Terrible service and really small portions so not justifying the price. Called to order takeout and the bartender sounded confused. It was because I wanted to order items based on their menu online and IG which ended up not being the same one as in restaurant! Out of the 3 items I wanted to order, all of them were either unavailable or had been changed. Supposed to have ordered the Paccheri con Pollo alla cacciatore but was advised they changed the pasta to rigatoni which was fine. Specifically told them not to put peppers but was told they couldn't do that as it's part of the sauce. In the end it definitely looked like they could have! And where's the sauce?! Lack of flavour and very small for $25. Also tried the Linguini alla pescatore, which they changed and reduced the types of seafood to just clams and mussels. This also lacked flavour and small portion. Price still remained at $29 Definitely would not recommend anyone to try this place. Service was not friendly and food was not worth the price. Overall, there are some better Italian restaurants in York region that I would rather go to! read more
Came here tonight to celebrate my dads birthday. We made a reservation for 5 and went we got to the restaurant, no one greeted us. We patiently waited at the front to be seated, and a staff( who ended up being our server) just asked if we were the 5 and lead us to our table from the bar. Upon sitting, there was no water given to us or and cups. We waived down a bus boy who ended up giving us the water and the cups. Our server came back about 10 mins later and dropped the menus on our table and just told us the special are here and left. As my parents were late to come, after they arrived. Our server was much friendlier and mentioned my boyfriend reminds him of younger jet Lee in the movie . Tbh I don't see the resemblance. And from there on, the customer service was friendly and better. We ordered the steak 10oz , lamp chops, lobster linguine and our appetizer was the calamari platter and pizza bites. The appetizer was small for the hefty price of $27 as a "sharable" platter. The steak, lamb chop and pasta were good though. However, this restaurant is on the pricier side. read more

Fettuccine funghi e Scaglie di tartufo nero - the taste of this pasta is decent. I guess anything with truffle tastes good. But I was a bit disappointed as the pasta is quite watery and not creamy at all. Not how I like it exactly. The portion is also quite small for a $29 pasta. Definitely not enough to fill the stomach of an adult. The white pizza was nicely done with just the right thickness and softness. Would be better if the toppings are more spread out and not concentrated in the middle. Tiramisu was nothing special. Besides the plating, it is just like an ordinary tiramisu from an Italian supermarket. Service was fair. The server could be more friendly and energetic though. The tables are also too close together. The back of the seat from one table is definitely less than 6ft from seat of another table when occupied. Price on my menu isn't high. A lot of the items are in the 20s but the portion is small. I also don't see a pasta with sausage on the menu. It's either veggie or seafood and 1 with chicken? I need real meat on my pasta! I will choose Scaddabush over this place anytime. read more
Costa Sorrento is one of the best Italian dining at downtown Markham. It doesn't have any fancy or very high end interior design when compared to Italian restaurant in downtown Toronto, but it has high quality of food. We ordered 22oz steak which is the special entree of the night. Totally recommend the steak, but I will pre order 32 oz next time. The seafood risotto with whole seabass is an amazing to share. The portion is enough for 4 people, and definitely better than Sotto sotto. The mushroom and shrimp pasta has nothing special but it is definitely not bad. Finally we finished with dessert platter for four. $35 obviously better than ordering individual dessert. I would definitely come back as I don't have to travel to downtown Toronto for Italian food. read more
Busy Italian place in the core of downtown Markham with nice renovations and a very open spacious feel. Our server was super sweet and constantly checked on us, although her causal attire hinted she may have been the owner. The food is on the saltier side as a lot of other reviews have mentioned: Insalta Costa - very lightly dressed but heavy on salt (too salty imo) Grilled octopus - this was done very nicely, perfectly cooked and the sauce complemented Seafood risotto - not as Al dente as other Italian restaurants but that's a positive for us. Large portion with plenty of seafood variety including shrimp, clam, mussels, and an entire grilled Mediterranean Sea bass. Well presented and tasted even better Overall a pretty good experience and would go back to try other dishes. read more
November 13, 2021 - My friend and I took our mutual friend here for his birthday. Interesting thing is his name is Jason and he was born on Friday the 13th *scary* We tried going two this restaurant 2x before but it was quite busy. I suggest making reservations. We ordered two dishes: Spigola e Risotto 3/5 Fettuccine funghi e Scaglie di tartufo nero 3/5 The risotto was nice but a bit warm when it came out, also I felt like the risotto was under cooked. I liked the flavour and the sea bass tasted good. The Fettuccine was bland, the only thing I tasted was truffles. There was LOTS of TRUFFLES!! Which should be a good thing but I only had one fork full and let the boys have the rest as it was too much truffle. The ambiance is very nice, staff was friendly and loved the decor! read more
I've been here twice now and each time has been for a special occasion. It's very easy to make a reservation and the tables are always ready when we arrive. The menu is quite well varied so there's always something for everyone! I've tried the pasta dishes and pizza (I say plural because we always share at the table so everyone can try it all). Pasta here is cooked al dente just the way I like, and the sauces are delicious. Nothing too salty or overwhelming. I really loved the pizza, which is a lot for me because I typically don't go for the pizza. I actually got a nice simple pizza, the Crudo, Rucola E Scaglie. That's my jam guys. It was so good! Crust was thin and crispy at the bottom, perfectly warm and "bready" in the middle. The toppings are enough that you get a bit on every bite. The dessert platter they provided was like a tasting platter. They've got different types of gelatos, panna cotta, and cannoli's on there. It was really beautifully presented and our birthday peeps and baby shower mums were really happy with their platters. I'd say it's a safe bet to order each time you have a celebration. The only thing I'd recommend they improve upon is the speed of food service and wait staff service. There's not a lot of communication from the staff and most times, we had to go find someone to come to the table. It was very difficult to flag someone down for water or to get the bill. When the owners are there (or who I think are the owners), it's amazing. They're so kind and enthusiastic about their food. They also make great recommendations. read more
Food is mid. Hard to find real Italian restaurants. This is pinned up as if it were authentic. I got the pizza, everyone else got pasta. For the price of 4 people, it's not bad at all. Service was lazy / rude. Why are you starring at us while grabbing the menus. No smile, no nothing? Also the table was tilting so i asked nicely for a coaster to help with the balance. The waitress straight up told us to move tables when we had our food... Uh, alright... Never coming here again. The 2 stars is because you had decent music playing. read more

It's not difficult to find good Italian food in the city but was a little surprised to find this in downtown Markham of all places since is overrun but various options of Asian cuisine. We were in the mood for a nice glass of wine and chill before easing into dinner. After a sumptuous Burrata appetizer (I miss Italy!) we just decided to stay for dinner. Adriatic Seabass and a fettuccine with mushroom, white and black truffle hit the spot for us and left enough room for an expresso and gelatos to finish our meal. It's good to go against the grain. Unless someone decides to up and move in another direction, inventions, discoveries, adventures would not exist. As a seasoned traveller, I have had the pleasure of visiting many destinations. Besides appropriate accommodations, dining is a very important part of travels. I have been at restaurants that have excellent ratings and find that it was not worth the stars. Then I go to places that takes a beating and wonder what others were thinking. This is one of those places. I have been here on multiple occasions. Ordered their pastas, pizza, steaks, drinks, wines, and even perused their little shop of authentic Italian products. I must say that the service and food is spot on. On my last trip, I was staring down at the most delicious 12oz Striploin that I have tasted in recent restaurant memory. The chimichurri sauce on the perfect medium steak was to die for and the vegetables were grilled perfectly. We eat with our eyes and I was hungry before my first bite. Paired with a good Bordeaux, the meal was excellent. Decor of the place is top notch. The high walls are adorned with marble and wood. Unique lighting mix well with the high tables, bench seating, and large bar. The wine selection is very good and the spirits are top shelf. If you are looking for a quick and cheap meal, perhaps I can recommend the clown food down the road. Portion size here is appropriate for the pasta, but the pizza is more than enough to share. The prices are fair for this type of a restaurant. The owners are passionate about their restaurant, staff, and their food. It shows as each dish is sent through the pass. Today, it's Lobster Linguini. A whole lobster poached and mixed into the cherry tomato sauce. Be warned that it's difficult to get every little shell but they do the best they can. Topped with some ground pepper and fresh parmesan, this meal was delicious. If you happen to have time to enjoy a food adventure, this should be your destination. It is mine! Cheers!!! read more
I've always known about this place as i live around the downtown Markham area but haven't given a try until recently. The restaurant itself is very nice interior and we made reservations thinking it might be busy but it was pretty empty. To start, my friends and I got a assorted salami board to share and the grilled zucchini was super salty. Like I literally just ate a tablespoon of salt. We express it to the server and he was very kind about it and very open to feed backs. The gnocchi was good except the sauce was a bit bland. Overall, it is quite pricey for the small portions but our server was super kind but other than that I don't know if I'd be back. read more
