It was late, so the restaurant was largely empty, hence quiet.. We returned last night and, upon walking in, were taken aback by the noise level. Holy cow. The pizza was again quite good, but the service, not so much, The server was friendly, but missing in action. We literally had to ask for a menu, ask for parmesan, ask for the desert menu, ask for the bill; each time waiting to catch his eye before we could ask. We came specifically to try their Spaghetti Cartoccio, which unfortunately didn't turn out as well as we hoped. The homemade squid ink spaghetti only faintly tasted of squid ink and didn't pair that well with the tomato sauce which overwhelmed it. The mussels were not open (sign they aren't fresh) and had sand or pieces of shell in it. Tiger shrimp was a good size and the calamari was tender. It wasn't a hit at the table. The rest of the dishes were much better. I would recommend the pizza or the Vitello Saltimbocca instead. Pizza had great texture and the toppings are creative. Business Group of 45 people, a fantastic experience at Dufferin Street location. Rob provided a terrific 3-course dinner within my budget with options for Vegetarian and No Red Meat dietary requirements. The kitchen staff kept the food moving which was an amazing feat since there were 2 additional large groups dining that night. Our servers, Andrei and Jenn did a wonderful job keeping everyone's orders straight and each meal delivered hot. Everyone loved their meals, and raved about it the next morning. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Birthday reservations for a group of 6 and it happened to also be Winterlicious. We got seated and I got anxious as no one acknowledged us for the first 5 minutes and I had a cake to store as a surprise later on. Our server then introduced himself, brought us some water and we were ready to order. Few of us opted for the Winterlicious menu while the rest of us went for the regular menu. I ordered a Caesar salad to start with Penne Salmone as my main. Caesar: not enough dressing for me to fully enjoy the salad but it's not a bad thing. Penne Salmone: I originally thought it was regular salmon but they used smoked salmon in their dish. The pasta was cooked perfectly and the rose sauce complimented the dish well. The Pasta fagioli may not be what you expect, but overall the food is delicious and service is great, BUT the noise level -- simply beyond being able to converse on a recent Saturday night-- and we were only a party of four! We all love a lively resto, but I had a sore throat from yelling across the table and a stiff neck from straining to hear even to the person beside me; ears still ringing the next day. The vestibule was the quietest place, and good for aural relief en route to the washroom. Came here for my birthday celebration on Father's day weekend and had one of THE BEST dinner experiences. I want to start out by highlighting our amazingly awesome waitress, Jenny, who went above and beyond in making my birthday dinner spectacular. There were 8 of us and everyone adored her. Things started out a tiny bit unpleasant, as there was a bit of a confusion in regards to a matter that was originally approved by the restaurant and then later flip flopped on. The misunderstanding was cleared up by dinnertime with the manager, but nevertheless, a few of my friends suggested I cancel and head somewhere else to save myself the headache of dealing with "bad service", especially since it was my birthday. But I really wanted italian! And those who know the yonge and finch area would know that good non-Asian food is really hard to come by in this area, much less a good Italian restaurant that has the classy and elegant ambiance I wanted for my birthday. So I stuck it out with Mezza, and boy am I glad! As soon as we sat down, in comes our super attentive, enthusiastic, and helpful waitress, Jenny, who single-handedly turned the boat around. She was just such a bundle of delight, patiently answered everyone's questions, came back over and over to give us more parmesan for our pastas, went out of her way to make me feel special as a birthday girl. Just all around phenomenal customer service. Besides Jenny, the few others who poured us sangria, brought my birthday cake over, and sang happy birthday with my friends were fantastic too. No complaints about service. Next up, food. Between the 8 of us, we ordered pastas, risottos, pizzas and everyone enjoyed their food. I had the pappardelle ragu and omg, it was absolutely delicious. Fresh pasta cooked perfectly with the right amount of al dente chew. The sauce had great flavour and the lamb melted in my mouth. It was so good that one of my friends ordered one for herself on top of her risotto. My bf's squid ink pasta was quite special and I liked the pasta flavour. I also had a bite of my friend's risotto, which I thought was decent but did not compare to the pastas imo. I did notice that all the pastas seemed to be red sauce, so it would've been nice to have a cream or white sauce variety in the future. Long story short: I'd probably give this a 7 out of 10 if I could, solely on my take-out experience. They are usually very quick in preparing the meals and I find the portions for the price to be much more worth it than some other Italian restaurants close by. Keep in mind I only ordered one dish so I can't speak to the other dishes. In my opinion, there is not much variety. Mezze mezze, to their regular and gluten free pastas. It is possible that their pasta may have been excellent, but, it's nearly impossible to serve excellent pasta via take out. Situated in a largely Korean neighbourhood, Mezza Notte is a refreshing break from the norm and at the same time probably my favourite restaurant in this North York area. Went for lunch at Dufferin location. I had fettucine with grilled veggies and chicken. It was fine. A bit on the bland side. Adding cheese on top helped a bit. The place is quite big. Even though the place was only half full, it was quite noisy. They need to consider adding something to absorb the noise. It was hard to hear my friend across the table from me because of the noise. I give bad reviews very rarely and usually I'm very understanding but this time it was just not something I could keep to myself. It was my friend's birthday and we came here to celebrate it. We ordered drinks and food. We had wine, I had a pizza and she had a soup and a pasta and the food was tasty. We decided to order dessert. We looked at the menu and there was tiramisu for $8 and 3 specialty coffees $8 each. We ordered 2 tiramisu and 2 cafe mezza notte. I remember thinking to myself that's pretty good to pay $16 for a dessert and a coffee with liquor. When we got the bill, I was puzzled as tiramisu was $8.50 and specialty coffee was $10. I clearly remember in the menu all the specialty coffees were $8, there was no 10! I asked the waitress why the prices differed in the bill from the menu. She brought me the menu and there were the prices like in the bill BUT I did see different prices in the menu. I was so baffled. I opened the yelp page for this restaurant and there I found a desert menu picture from 3 years ago that had the prices I saw on the menu I got today, so I was very pissed that if they changed their prices why didn't they do it on every paper menu they have? And was it intentional to give us an old menu and charge us by a new menu. So although the food was nice and the service was nice till that last minute when we got the bill, I will not go to this place again as I feel I've been cheated and it's not even about the amount of money, it's that it feels like it was intentional. And it really sucks.... My advice to those who do go, please check the menu and keep it with you until you get your bill! read more

They had a special preparation of calamari that day and it was actually quite nice, the tomato sauce had a nice spiciness to it that was really warming without being overwhelming while the calamari was cooked nicely (not rubbery at all). I actually used some of the complimentary bread to mop up all of the sauce. The pizza had the right amount of crispiness in the crust but felt underseasoned. It needed a bit more char or something to have that distinct note of bitterness along with the taste of the other ingredients. read more

Dufferin location I noticed a new restaurant opened on Dufferin street so I decided to try it. We arrived and were seated but noticed the waitress was not too welcoming. She provided us with menus, went to get us drinks and we had ordered our appetizers, we noticed there was no bread which was extremely unusual as every Italian restaurant I been to brings you complementary bread. We asked the waitress and she said we had to order it which we had no problem paying for it. When we got the bread, it was four slices of regular bread. We proceeded in ordering our main dishes which was also a disappointment as my fettuccine with veggies wasn't what I was expecting, the vegetables were chopped so tiny and overcooked, might as well blended them. My son who is a pasta lover didn't finished his meal as it was just flavourless. We had to ask the waitress for Parmesan and pepper and correct cutlery something that is conmen sense. When removing the plates the waitress spilled the sauce all over the floor just missing me. I would never go back again and wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. I liked their take on Italian the Italian food, it is certainly different but in a good way. not a big fan of their starter though, because the bread was cold, unless that's how they meant for it to be, which would be a little weird. We went to Mezza Notte last week for dinner. It was our first time at the new restaurant. The food was OK, but the venue itself, left a lot to be desired. Un like the old restaurant, there was not a main floor washroom. There was maybe 30 steep steps to go down to the washroom, and since I am using a cane, I could not manage them. The other problem, was the noise factor. We could barely hear our guests sitting across from us!!!! This was totally unacceptable, and both my wife and I, and our guests vowed not to come back. So I've been here a few times and I'm a little surprised that I haven't written anything about it yet. I was here recently with a large group and given how busy it was, there were only 4 servers. That being said, they were on top of EVERYTHING which is amazing. Our table of 11 (including a toddler and a baby) we're all taken care of in a timely fashion. I had the Penne Veronese and a Cesar to start. I will say, whoever is making their Cesar dressing knows what they are doing. It was by far one of the best cesar salads I've had in my life. Granted, it's not typical authentic Italian fare, it was still good! The Penne Veronese was great too! So good that what I had left over was immediately consumed the next day and I'm still thinking about it. Only negative is that the space is cramped if you have a large group but it's manageable. Just had a great experience at the Dufferin location. I've spent a great deal of time in Sicily and the gnocchi I ordered were excellent. My partner also likewise enjoyed her dish of seafood pasta. The service was fast, friendly and unobtrusive. It was a pleasure to chat with Gus, the owner, who politely asked guests if everything was alright. I didn't notice any noise other reviews allude to. When we arrived 30 mins early the place was locked up tight and dark. What kind of place would book a private party and not show up. Wow! Why did nobody tell me about this fantastic Italian restaurant before? Ended up here on an office lunch and the place was busting at the seams full. Based on that fact alone I expected less in every way. But to my. Complete and welcome surprise the food was perfect, the service was great and the prices are very reasonable. Upon hearing of my dairy and beef concerns, the waiter recommended that he would make something special for me. I could have had one of the many pizzas as they do have vegan cheese, but I kind I wanted fresh pasta. So I said ok. I will accept the offer of a surprise meal. And boy am I glad I did. We did not order apps and only had water and the delicious breadbasket (much more than a usual breadbasket). So out comes a plate with something wrapped in parchment paper. Once I opened it up I was drawn by the bountiful aroma of handmade squid ink pasta surrounded by a tomato based sauce with perfectly cooked seafood. Solid Italian joint. Been to the usual Italian spots in Woodbridge too many times with up and down results. Always great food at this spot. A notch above the Thornhill location; mostly due to atmosphere and staff, as the Thornhill location is a bit more aesthetically pleasing. HOWEVER: fresh bread basket when we ordered drinks, awesome. Mussles + sauce from them + the bread : awesome. Had the veal pasta, amazing. Huge chunks of veal throughout the sauce and dish. Wife got some chicken pasta with vegetables- I ate the leftovers and definitely great as well. Wouldn't hesitate to go back. Just park at the back and have a good meal. First one must be aware of the parking. There are only four parking spots in the front so I suggest going to the back to park. This place is a nice little gem. We were quite happy to eat at Mezza Nottes new location. The food did not disappoint except no more wonderful bread basket actually you now have to pay for bread. The Caesar salad was excellent. What did disappoint was the noise level of the restaurant. Their ceilings are way too high and the noise level was so bad you had to practically scream to talk to the people at your table. On top of that they had loud music playing as well. Also an important note for people with mobility issues. No accessible washroom. The Focaccia is defiantly the best part of coming to eat here, it's sooo good and also very addictive! The Veal Parmigiana has been excellent lately!! Its so soft, you don't need a knife to cut into it, it just falls right apart and melts in your mouth! The sauce is delicious, and don't forget the cheese, lots and lots of cheese on the veal!!! Very disappointed. Our group is always looking for lunch spots and had gone there a few times previously. There is one server unfortunately, who is always very short with us when we've eaten here each time. The prices have apparently changed 2 months ago, but haven't been updated on their website. I was not impressed that my 19$ lunch was bumped to 24$ before tax & tip. I would be able to live with the increase if the food quality reflected the price, b/c the service wasn't that great. The risotto was undercooked as it was gritty and not very creamy at all. The shellfish was shrivelled and tiny. The shrimp was however cooked perfectly and very enjoyable, but not deveined properly. I may sound nit-picky at this point, but again, the price should reflect the quality. Scallops were good at least. Mezza Notte has been in the neighbourhood for years and for good reason. If you're looking for Italian food in Willowdale, this is your best bet. I've been here several times and I have to say I've never been let down. The staff is friendly, the restaurant is nice, and the food is good too. The price you pay for the food is amazing and they have something for everyone to enjoy on the menu. Their take-out is good too. My only critic is the squid ink pasta is a little too sweet, and the washrooms downstairs could use some dusting. read more

I've walked by this Italian place so many times, I just had to give them a shot. Looking in from the outside, this place always appeared very dark and gloomy, and when we were seated inside, the interior is pretty much the same. It was pretty empty on a Saturday night, with a few lone diners. We were quickly seated near the entrance, and our waiter named the specials for the day (none of which were pasta). We ordered fairly quickly and let our waiter know that we were trying to catch a movie by 9:50PM. Here's a detailed timeline: 8:10 Arrive at Restaurant 8:15 Ordered our Food 9:10 Waiter informs us he FORGOT to put in our order but ensures we will still catch our movie 9:20 Food Arrives (The pasta wasn't bad, but nothing amazing) 9:30 After gobbling down our dinner at record speed, we ask for the bill 9:35 Bill arrives and we quickly pay for it.. but wait why is the bill so expensive? We realize we had just paid for someone else's bill. We bring this to the attention of our waiter, who offered to give us back $5 which was the difference of the two bills. I find it disappointing that no discount was offered on our original bill and that so many mistakes were made without apology.
