Birthday reservations for a group of 6 and it happened to also be Winterlicious. We got seated and I got anxious as no one acknowledged us for the first 5 minutes and I had a cake to store as a surprise later on. Our server then introduced himself, brought us some water and we were ready to order. Few of us opted for the Winterlicious menu while the rest of us went for the regular menu. I ordered a Caesar salad to start with Penne Salmone as my main. Caesar: not enough dressing for me to fully enjoy the salad but it's not a bad thing. Penne Salmone: I originally thought it was regular salmon but they used smoked salmon in their dish. The pasta was cooked perfectly and the rose sauce complimented the dish well. Kind gesture by the restaurant to provide a candle for both the Winterlicious dessert and the cake I brought in.

Came here for my birthday celebration on Father's day weekend and had one of THE BEST dinner experiences. I want to start out by highlighting our amazingly awesome waitress, Jenny, who went above and beyond in making my birthday dinner spectacular. There were 8 of us and everyone adored her. Things started out a tiny bit unpleasant, as there was a bit of a confusion in regards to a matter that was originally approved by the restaurant and then later flip flopped on. The misunderstanding was cleared up by dinnertime with the manager, but nevertheless, a few of my friends suggested I cancel and head somewhere else to save myself the headache of dealing with "bad service", especially since it was my birthday. But I really wanted italian! And those who know the yonge and finch area would know that good non-Asian food is really hard to come by in this area, much less a good Italian restaurant that has the classy and elegant ambiance I wanted for my birthday. So I stuck it out with Mezza, and boy am I glad! As soon as we sat down, in comes our super attentive, enthusiastic, and helpful waitress, Jenny, who single-handedly turned the boat around. She was just such a bundle of delight, patiently answered everyone's questions, came back over and over to give us more parmesan for our pastas, went out of her way to make me feel special as a birthday girl. Just all around phenomenal customer service. Besides Jenny, the few others who poured us sangria, brought my birthday cake over, and sang happy birthday with my friends were fantastic too. No complaints about service. Next up, food. Between the 8 of us, we ordered pastas, risottos, pizzas and everyone enjoyed their food. I had the pappardelle ragu and omg, it was absolutely delicious. Fresh pasta cooked perfectly with the right amount of al dente chew. The sauce had great flavour and the lamb melted in my mouth. It was so good that one of my friends ordered one for herself on top of her risotto. My bf's squid ink pasta was quite special and I liked the pasta flavour. I also had a bite of my friend's risotto, which I thought was decent but did not compare to the pastas imo. I did notice that all the pastas seemed to be red sauce, so it would've been nice to have a cream or white sauce variety in the future. Overall, the restaurant really made my birthday super memorable. I can keep raving about the food and service. My friends and I are already talking about coming back!

Long story short: I'd probably give this a 7 out of 10 if I could, solely on my take-out experience. They are usually very quick in preparing the meals and I find the portions for the price to be much more worth it than some other Italian restaurants close by. Keep in mind I only ordered one dish so I can't speak to the other dishes. In my opinion, there is not much variety. Anyways, I tried the Gnocchi Bolognese but added extra meatballs and would order it again.

Situated in a largely Korean neighbourhood, Mezza Notte is a refreshing break from the norm and at the same time probably my favourite restaurant in this North York area. It is a little taste of Italy with faded paintings on the ceiling, thin crust made-to-order pizza, and freshly prepared pasta available.  But try to save space in your stomach for dessert as every offering on the dessert menu looks eye-poppingly irresistable and mouth-watering even just to read about.

68/100. It's a simple no frills Italian place. No surprises negative or positive. They had a special preparation of calamari that day and it was actually quite nice, the tomato sauce had a nice spiciness to it that was really warming without being overwhelming while the calamari was cooked nicely (not rubbery at all). I actually used some of the complimentary bread to mop up all of the sauce. The pizza had the right amount of crispiness in the crust but felt underseasoned. It needed a bit more char or something to have that distinct note of bitterness along with the taste of the other ingredients.

The line was short during a late lunch on a weekday, and if we had planned better, we would have ordered ahead because you can skip the line. The service was a bit slow; we were thinking they could make so much more money if they just had a New Yorker taking orders, but it was worth the wait for some piping hot, crispy crust. We got a few slices; mushroom blanco (we tasted some truffle oil), a vodka one (all pizza should be made with this sauce instead), a marg and a pepperoni. All the spots were taken outside so we walked 2 minutes to a park and crushed our pieces there and saw a number of others so the same. We brought our empty pizza box back to patio outside the restaurant where they have a designated container for them.

Would come here more often and would've given 5 stars if it wasn't for the long wait time outdoors…read more Parking is also hard to find nearby. We waited for 45 mins on a Friday evening, and ended up getting a parking ticket that was issued 10 mins before we were leaving. But I guess their set up does live up to the "neighborhood pizza" vibe. Their pizza is the best though and I'm not much of a pizza girl. My favourite is the burrata marinara because I find it so unique. The burrata is creamy and go so well against the crispness of the pizza. The vodka slice had the most insane cheese pull and I love that it doesn't have a strong tomato/sour taste. Next time we'll probably order ahead and just get a box!

This place gets a solid 4.5/5 for its authentic southern Italian food and very friendly & attentive…read moreservice. It has a very homey, old-school Italian American restaurant ambience - the opposite of the stylish, hipster or touristy restaurant vibe. Apparently this restaurants gets a lot of regulars, and I could see why. As soon as you walk in, you feel like you're transported back to the 1960s with the red-and-white checkered tablecloths, red chairs, old-style wax candles, brick walls, and a large black-and-white photo of an Italian family on the wall (perhaps the founder or owner's?). I could see this place being a movie set for films that need an old, classic Italian American restaurant as a setting. In addition to the décor, I love the 1960s music being played in the background. Size-wise, the inside of the restaurant isn't that big so it feels very cozy. It can get very busy and crowded after 5 pm, as most people seem to come here for dinner. We came during lunch hour and we were the only patrons there. The southern Italian touches are very apparent in most of their dishes - with heavy reliance on olive oil, tomato-based sauces (especially in the fish and seafood dishes), fresh seafood, herbs, peppers, and vegetables such as eggplant. This is in contrast to northern Italian cuisine that is characterized by rich, creamy dishes using butter, lard, and cheeses, and puts more emphasis on rice, polenta, and meat-heavy dishes (where as seafood is more prevalent in the south). Dishes that we tried: 1) Baccala (Pan-Seared Black Cod) - This was the BEST and my favourite dish here. The black cod had a crispy exterior and flaky interior, and came with roasted mini potatoes and mixed vegetables (zucchini, red bell pepper, Brussels sprouts, eggplant) roasted with garlic -- such a well-rounded and wholesome dish. The roasted mini potatoes were so flavourful, and the vegetables had a nice char. I asked for the puttanesca sauce on the side, as the fish was already flavourful on its own without the sauce. But the sauce was better than I expected - it contained actual whole chunks of cherry tomatoes and olives. 2) Steamed Mixed Fish & Seafood in Tomato Sauce - This dish wasn't on the website menu, but it was on the printed menu in the restaurant. It reminded me of cioppino (Italian-American mixed seafood stew with tomato sauce, herbs, and spices). It came presented as wrapped inside aluminum tin foil, which the server then opened in front of us on the table with steam coming out. The fish was salmon, and seafood consisted of mussels and shrimps. This dish was just alright. For almost $50, there wasn't much seafood. 3) Pizza Funghi - I liked the very thin and crispy crust, and the sliced roasted mushrooms as toppings, but I wasn't a fan of the "truffled honey" they added on top of the pizza. I didn't taste any truffle, and the honey made it very sweet. Not a fan of sweet pizza. 4) SIDES: Rapini, Brussels Sprouts, Mushrooms - They got bonus points for being able to customize the sides. They didn't have asparagus that day, so they substituted it for steamed Brussels sprouts with garlic instead - which was heavenly. The Brussels sprouts weren't overcooked at all, and they were generous with the garlic (anything with extra garlic gets extra thumbs up from me). The rapini came out chopped with a side of lemon wedge. Mushrooms weren't on the menu as a side, but we asked and they were able to make a simple side of just mushrooms. Overall the vegetables got 9/10. The chef was very friendly as he came out and talked to us. The server was extremely attentive. Great service overall.

They have a great stock of wines and an impressive drink list that we don't get to enjoy as we can't handle drinks these days. We do enjoy the food and the friendly service immensely tho. Lots of options for shareable apps; excellent options on pizzas and pastas; and I am always impressed with their mains (as someone that has to limit carbs, options can be limited at some Italian restos). They are also understanding of reasonable diet requests. They have gluten-free options as well. It is more of a "quiet" restaurant in terms of the clientele chatter, at least for the times I was there, so I can hear the music they play ("oldies"!!!!)
