cute little find!!! Came here for a friend dinner and the vibes were spectacular. I loved the lighting. It was dim and every table had a little adjustable lamp. The service was great, a tad bit slow just because I could tell there weren't many workers but once you got their attention, they would serve you right away! Food: Bread and Butter - 4/5 This was complementary and free always tastes great haha. If I had to be picky, I'd wish the bread was warmer and a bit chewier but can't complain. Was yummy! Vodka Pasta - 3.8/5 I had been craving vodka pasta for a while and this satisfied my craving! It was yummy and was a huge portion. If I wasn't so hungry, I could've brought home for some seconds. I wish it was a bit creamier or thicker the sauce. Other than that, would get their pasta again! Can never go wrong with a vodka pasta. I did also ask for grilled chicken in the pasta. Half my pieces were really thin so given I was charged $8 added chicken, mm not the best. Fettuccine Alfredo - 2/5 Honestly wasn't the best. Granted this was on the kids menu but it seems to be kinda bland and lacked a lot of cheese flavour to it and seasoning. Kinda tasted like store bought sauce. Cosmopolitan Martini - 4/5 She was delicious!!! I love when I can't taste the alcohol in a martini but also getting a little dose of a drink with my food. It was sweet and yummy which is exactly what I requested. You can ask the server how you want your drink to be made exactly. $16 though, not sure if it's worth that much. Glad I tried it once though Overall - 3.5 slightly on the expensive side for what you're getting. Good to try out once but up to you to make your judgment on the rationale of the price!

Tried the pastas here and was a little bit underwhelmed by the flavours. The penne alla vodka wasn't bad but was missing some seasoning. We added chicken to it and it was a tad dry. The fettuccine Alfredo was also lacking salt and pepper. It did come off the kids menu so that could be a reason. There wasn't a lot of staff around for help but they were all friendly. The restaurant is tiny but it gives a fancy yet cozy feel.

I took my gf here on saturday to celebrate her bday. When I was doing research, I found out that this was one of the only restaurants in the GTA serving tableside pasta in the cheese wheel. Calling in to the restaurant, I had been told that the chef usually does the cheese wheel pasta on saturday night so you can imagine my immense disappointment when I found out upon asking (once we were seated), that the chef was actually out of town on THIS particular saturday night when I wanted my gf to experience something special. Anyways, we were sat right away upon arrival and the servers hung our coats on hooks near the entrance (within visual range). We never actually got a designated server (idk if the hostess forgot about us or not) but throughout the night we took it upon ourselves to flag down a very young gentleman named Jordan who provided great service to us throughout the night. Seafood platter for 2: This was actually a lot of food. I was skeptical when we ordered it but it came with a ton of seafood which justified the near $40 price. The seafood was also cooked well. Everything was so tender. The calamari rings in particular. And the battering was light and crispy. We also really liked the fresh citrus dip on the side that the platter came with. Dipping the seafood really helped to cut back on the richness of the batter. Ravioli de maddalena: So this dish was actually a lil disappointing. It was supposed to be the signature pasta of the resto but aside from the nice flavour of the veal (which my gf didn't particularly enjoy either since she said it tasted like lamb), the pasta was too thick and the simple butter sauce didn't coat the noodles well enough. Fettuccine carbonara: We both unanimously agreed that my dish tasted superior. The sauce clung to the noodles way better. It was more rich and full bodied. The noodles were actually al dente and had better chew. The egg yolk on top was a nice added touch. Tiramisu: WOW. This dessert was a showstopper for sure. Most legit italian restos will have a really delicious, homemade tiramisu and this place was no exception. It was just as good as the tiramisu we had at Il Postino on Main St Unionville. Absolutely sublime. Would come back but only if I knew the chef was in the house that night making the tableside cheese wheel pasta!

Service 4/5 - friendly staff, very accommodating, humorous and overall good vibes Venue 4/5 - nice and cozy with a hint of Italian family vibes Food 3/5 - overall can taste the homemade aspect of these dishes Foccaccia 5/5 - complimentary bread but that's not why I gave the full rating lol - soft with perfect aeration and texture - not overly salty, well balanced seasoning - good crisp exterior - pairs very nicely with their olive oil balsamic dip! Lasagna 3/5 - handmade pasta evident, nice and good flavour - unfortunately the layers of the pasta felt wet and would fall off when eaten, but not like the 'melt in your mouth' and unfortunately more on the overcooked side - tomato sauce tasted a bit bland and raw tomato flavour, can be a bit heavier on seasoning Ravioli 3/5 - the veal filling was good, but seasoning lacking - cook on the pasta was inconsistent, some were over, some were very under and had raw pasta/still firm, but others were ok done - butter sage sauce was quite one note, didn't really get thay fragrant butter notes and was more melted butter without browning, and the sage flavours were not evident Tartufo 3/5 - standard gelato, average - sweeter side, preferred the vanilla over the chocolate but that's probably me!

Tried this place for the first time. Food was pretty good. Service was also okay. I tried the cheese wheel pasta and personally it wasn't my favourite. However the texture of the pasta was interesting. The atmosphere was also nice.

What a wonderful experience! The staff are pleasant and warm. They welcomed everyone with so much respect and with their friendly spirit. The minute we walked in to the restaurant, Ms. Juli and Ms. Angie welcomed us and seated us at our table. Our wonderful waiter, Mr. Stefan was very very helpful and cheerful. He helped us to chose a very good bottle of red wine and our main course. The head chef, "the owner" of Folco's, greeted us at our table with a friendly smile and a great conversation. Overall, I highly recommend this beautiful restaurant for excellent authentic Italian food.

it's a Saturday night, I checked online and it showed full booking but I called and got my table. Unfortunately they didn't have pizza this night. The restaurant was completely full when I entered but the server Jordan greeted us immediately with lovely smile. Many families were seated in groups enjoying Italian homemade cooking, the vibe was joyful. Although just the 2 of us, we were eager to try many different dishes. The salad with fig, walnut, peach, crouton and arugula topped with a huge mozzarella ball was fresh and delicious, the grilled octopus was also fresh and good, not mentioned about the grilled chicken spaghetti and lasagna. We could taste the freshness of homemade al-dente spaghetti and tomato sauce. I must say the servers were very welcoming and service was good, they'd come to check on us to ensure everything was alright from time to time and they shared conversations with us. Next time we'll come back to try some other dishes.

I ordered the veal, but they ran out. No complaints! Chicken parm was perfection!

(April 2020) Folco's has been a staple of Main Street Markham for many more years than i've lived in the area (15+). This was my 2nd experience "dining" there. I was REALLY craving Italian food for my birthday. After viewing Folco's weekly specials, i knew i found THE spot to order my b-day dinner from. Once Covid-19 hit, we found ourselves less inclined to eat at restaurants as often as we used to (2-3 times a week). We made the decision to only eat locally OR at our regular spots within York Region for take-out and curbside pick up. Folco's was one of the 1st places we tried curb side pick up at and the whole experience was flawless and wow - the food was delicious! Every Wednesday, the specials are posted on their website and Facebook page. They are open for curbside pick up Wednesday to Saturday. They gave my hubby a pick up time. He pulled up waited out front and they brought the food to the car in bags wearing gloves and placed the items in the trunk of our car. Here is what we ordered: Bruschetta - The crostini was served separately from the tomato topping so that the bread wouldn't get soggy. The tomatoes were seasoned so well and bursting with flavour, just the right amount of garlic, e.v.o.o and fresh basil. I was eating the tomatoes on their own in addition to piling it on the crispy crostini! Veal tenderloin with Wild Mushroom Ravioli - this is what my husband ordered. He LOVED his food! He is a big meat eater, but very picky about cuts and how meat is seasoned and how it is cooked. The meat was cooked and seasoned very well as was the temperature of the meat. Just the right amount of pink! His (homemade) pasta was cooked perfectly and he loved the flavour of the ravioli. I was unable to try this dish because I am allergic to wild mushrooms, but my husband savoured every last bite! Chicken parmigiana - I had initially ordered the veal parmigiana, but they ran out of veal. This was not an issue for me at all as I LOVE both! Generous portion with 2 pieces of tender, lightly breaded chicken scallopine. Just the right amount of tomato sauce and cheese. I could taste the chicken, sauce & cheese. The chicken parm. came with a side of handmade penne. Caesar salad - generous portion of salad with house made dressing. The dressing was not over powered with garlic, it was light and the crunchie lemon infused croutons were a perfect addition to add a hint of citrus to the salad. We also ordered 2 slices of chocolate cake. They added in a free slice for my birthday along with a sparkler. If you are craving some homemade flavours from Italy, this is THE place to eat/be! They are also offering beer & wine with food orders. Check out their website for offerings & pricing! You can sign to receive the weekly take-out specials by email. Call ahead when their specials go live to pre-order and secure your pick up time/date because they fill up and sell out quickly! The patio is now open and they are offering their full sized menu! Don't order without trying their pizzas - OMG, you won't be disappointed. Stay safe everyone!

    Escargot was delicious.

DELICIOUS ITALIAN FOOD My family and I came here on Labour Day weekend. We made reservations a couple days beforehand by phone. When making reservations, maybe indicate whether you wanna dine inside, on the patio, or on a picnic table(lol...). We were prompted to sit at the picnic table but I kindly asked if it was possible to sit at one of the patio tables considering most were empty. With success, the server was able to grant us seating at one of the patio tables, but the server also informed us that a different group reserved the table at 7pm (approx. 2hrs from that time), which was fine. Service was fine. They may have been understaffed due to COVID which is understandable. We got a complimentary bread basket with olive oil and balsamic, which was nice. For appetizers, we got the Caprese salad and Escargot. Both were delicious. For mains, we got the lasagna, scallop and mussels pasta, Rack of Lamb special, and Fettuccine Carbonara special. All four mains were also delicious! I've tried Carbonara pasta from many places, but this one is my favorite, speck was used instead of bacon. The Rack of Lamb came with the Wild Mushroom Ravioli (approx 4 large pieces of ravioli), it was delicious and you could really taste the wild mushroom. The lasagna and scallop and mussel pasta were good too, but I personally preferred the other two, which were Specials. FYI, the restaurants Specials change weekly apparently, so just a heads up. Overall, I really did enjoy the food here. The price is on the high end, the whole experience was approx. $170. It's probably more expensive than Scaddabush but then again it is a higher quality than Scaddabush. I'll probably come back eventually.

I have to say they're are a little cheap as it was my birthday I thought they would give the dessert for free but they charged for the dessert it's all good, let's start of with the calamari, really crispy and tender in the inside expensive like crazy, for entree we ordered rigatoni vodka, papperdalle funghi, and chicken Parmesan, the rigatoni vodka was out of this world, very creamy pasta was cooked al dente and they make fresh pasta here, that's a first, the vodka sauce tasted delicious had a rich tomatoe flavor but super creamy, the papperdalle funghi tasted amazing as well and the chicken Parmesan tasted amazing a billion times better than Sugo. The service was excellent, the waiter was attentive, and the ambiance just seemed a bit claustrophobic as there wasn't much space in the restaurant, if you want to eat here for dinner it is highly recommended to reserve online. Just if it's your birthday don't expect anything for free I forgot to Mention the chocolate cream pie probably one of the best desserts I have ever tasted the filling was so creamy and had the right amount of sweetness and the crust was perfect.

We made a semi-last-minute reservation the day before Father's Day weekend for a party of seven at 6:00 PM on a Saturday. Surprisingly, it wasn't very busy during our visit, aside from one larger group and a few couples, the dining room remained fairly quiet. The restaurant itself is quite spacious, though only about half of the venue is dedicated to dining. The atmosphere strikes a nice balance between casual and upscale. It's not fine dining, but it's polished enough for a date night or celebration while still being comfortable for casual attire. Service was provided primarily by two servers throughout our meal. They were friendly, attentive, and consistently kept our water glasses topped up without being intrusive. The food was enjoyable, though not the best I've had at this price point. That said, it's a solid option for the area. The grilled calamari appetizer was cooked well, being tender rather than chewy, and nicely seasoned without being overly salty. The kale salad was a pleasant surprise, featuring a fresh, homemade-tasting dressing that complemented the kale perfectly without any bitterness. The garlic bread was absolutely loaded with garlic, which I loved, though it was softer than expected and could have benefited from a bit more toasting. For my main, I ordered the mushroom truffle pasta. The pasta was cooked al dente, and the generous amount of mushrooms was a highlight. Around the table, the spicy chicken rosé pasta was well received, though the spice level was quite mild. I recommend asking for their chili oil for an added kick. The aged striploin was cooked medium as requested, tender throughout, with nicely crisped edges. The accompanying truffle fries and truffle aioli were delicious. The clam linguine had good flavour but could have used a bit more sauce. The branzino was the surprise of the evening, as it arrived as a whole fish, which wasn't what we expected in this type of setting. While flavorful, it required navigating quite a few bones (wouldn't really recommend it for this reason, not the classiest dish to eat). Dessert was a mixed experience. The banana pudding was unfortunately a miss, with an unusual stretchy texture and an overly sweet flavour profile. In contrast, the house-made pistachio tiramisu was outstanding and easily the standout dessert of the meal. It's a must-order. The restaurant was clean and thoughtfully decorated, and the washrooms were well maintained. I especially appreciated the complimentary mouthwash, a small but memorable touch that added to the overall experience. Note: They change their menu from time to time!

Sadly, this eatery didn't have a dessert menu. I wanted something small to satisfy my sweet tooth, as I was stuffed. I wondered if Costa Sorrento had dessert that I could take home. I walked over to this restaurant. I was already parked in the lot across from Good Catch. I walked in. A small market was in front of me. Gelato was on my right in the freezer. Yay! A male staffer came over to greet me, who was a bit hard of hearing. I let him know that I was here for the market. He nodded and let me be. I was so happy to see candy, sugar, salt, pasta, chocolate, and a lot more. It was wonderful. I got these items: - A small cup of Biscoff gelato - Black truffle luxury mixed nuts - Frizzy lemon candies I asked the man where I could pay for these items. He guided me to the cash area at the bar. The downside to this market is that you don't see prices. He knew how much the gelato cup cost. He didn't know about the other two, so he had to call a colleague. It's funny, but it ended up being a group effort to figure out pricing and cash me out. Two other female staffers also joined in. It's not exactly a cheap market. I suspect that the mixed nuts and lemon candies were imports. They were $10 each. My small gelato was $5. I'm glad that I didn't commit to getting a pint. What if I hated what I had? I also wanted a small dessert, so it worked out. I paid with a credit card. I tapped. Done! I asked if I could get a spoon for my gelato. One of the nice women went into the back to get one. The other woman let me know that they used to give out big spoons, but had gelato spoons now. I got a blue spoon with a napkin from the woman. Service is great here. I thanked everyone and left with my goods. I declined getting a bag, as I was parked closed by. I enjoyed my Biscoff gelato in my car. It was yummy. I'd get the pint next time. It had bits of Biscoff that were so flavourful in creamy gelato. OMG! It was delightful and the perfect dessert to end my meal. Yesterday, I devoured my bag of black truffle mixed nuts. If you love black truffle oil and mixed nuts, grab a bag. The cashews, walnuts, almonds, and more were huge. I'd get another bag in a heartbeat. Tasty! I may have to come back and get the black truffle potato chips next. I'm sure they are equally as yummy. I haven't tried the lemon candies yet. I hope that they are delightful. It was great dropping by to check out the market. I hope to return and have some pasta next time. (215)

I have hosted so many dinner parties here in the past years, and I seriously only have praises for this place! Recent visit on a Thursday night for their Twist & Twirl Thursday dinner specials (20% off pastas and cocktails). We ended up going for the seasonal 3-course meal :D Our server was especially warm and welcoming, even though you can tell he is so swamped. He brought us some bread and olive oil dip shortly after putting our orders in. The lobster bisque was chef's kiss. It was so creamy and flavourful; I wanted another bowl lol. The warm beet salad was also really tasty. On to the main: the creamy seafood pasta was amazing, it was loaded with shrimps, scallops and mussels. I would definitely order this again! The duck was also tasty. As for dessert, the tiramisu and the panna cotta are must-orders #nobrainer

Service was superb with very friendly servers - so friendly that even my toddler with stranger anxiety liked them and engaged with them! Atmosphere and view were great since it was sitting on Toogood Pond. Inside was really cute too. Tables, chairs, and even the booster were clean. Zero complaints! The only thing is the washroom is the public park washroom so it's not the prettiest and cleanest; there were some bugs and some smell. In terms of the menu, there aren't a lot of choices for pasta but it makes sense since it is a bistro. Ordered the Mortadella & Burrata and Tagliatelle al Ragu. Both were really delicious and the pasta tasted fresh even though we don't know if it's fresh pasta. Had a really good experience here and would definitely come back! This spot is perfect for date nights since there are many small tables and the vibe is just a date night vibe!

La Fonte sits on one of the most enviable pieces of restaurant real estate in Unionville. Perched beside Toogood Pond, with a patio facing west, it offers the kind of sunset view that would make a mediocre sandwich taste profound. If you're taking an evening stroll around the pond, there is essentially one place to stop, sit, sip a cappuccino, and watch the day disappear. La Fonte knows this. And perhaps that's the problem. On a cool evening, we approached the mostly empty patio with modest ambitions. No elaborate dinner. No special requests. Just coffee, a couple of treats, and a front-row seat to one of the best sunsets in Markham. The greeting? "Do you have a reservation?" No. Reasonable question. What followed was less reasonable. Instead of the traditional hospitality playbook--"Welcome, let me see what I can do"--we were informed they were busy - did I mention the empty patio? And immediately questioned about whether we intended to order food - what does what we intend to order matter if a seat can be made available? We did say we would like a seat on the deck/patio. We explained that it was our first visit and, not being blessed with psychic powers, we had no idea what they served. Snarky attitude in check - with pleasantries exiting the oral interface. A menu was handed to us and we were instructed to step aside and review it. Step aside....???!!!??? As if there were crowds of eager diners stacked ten deep behind us... There was nobody. Not a single soul waiting for a table. No line. No rush. No visible crisis requiring crowd-control measures. Just an oddly defensive interaction taking place on a mostly empty patio overlooking a beautiful pond. The conversation somehow became more absurd from there. Every answer seemed to generate another hurdle, another question, another subtle suggestion that perhaps our presence was creating administrative difficulties. Eventually, we did what any rational person does when hospitality turns into a bureaucratic exercise: we left. The funny part came later. Walking around to the opposite side of Toogood Pond, we could clearly see people casually strolling onto the patio and taking seats. No interrogation. No menu review committee. No apparent examination of intent. Just people walking on past the gatekeeper and sitting down. Which naturally raises the question: Is the secret to dining at La Fonte simply to ignore the front-of-house operation altogether? Not that we'd ever do that. Most of us were raised to believe civility matters. You wait to be seated. You speak politely. You respect the establishment's process. But La Fonte provided a fascinating case study in how that social contract can break down. Because when courtesy is met with indifference, and curiosity is met with suspicion, one begins to wonder whether good manners are simply putting oneself at a competitive disadvantage. The tragedy is that none of this has anything to do with the food. The kitchen may be wonderful. The coffee may be excellent. The patio is unquestionably spectacular. The problem is that the first course served at any restaurant isn't food. It's hospitality. Perhaps what seems to be nepotism at the gates is not the best hiring practice. And on this evening, La Fonte managed to take one of the most beautiful dining locations in Unionville and make it feel strangely unwelcome. That's a remarkable achievement, though probably not the one they were aiming for. Carpe diem, indeed. Just don't expect anyone at the front door to help you seize it. JEERS!!!
