Came for Winterlicious. Made a call for reservation an hour before arrival that went into voicemail and they never called back. When we arrived, they made a big fuss over reservation because the restaurant is small and not a lot of tables, which made us feel bad. They didn't do a good job of table management because they kept some tables unseated while waiting for reservations which came much later, and by that time other tables opened up. Appetizer was either mussel or different varieties of salad. Main course was decent but nothing to write home about. The tiramisu dessert was awful. It was too hard and chewy. read more

Both food and service were way below my expectation... I dined in with my husband and two kids for dinner on a weekday. It was very quite regardless of being in the middle of Winterlicious week. When we entered the restaurant, we were not greeted nicely. We ordered three winterlicous courses, all the dishes were just ok .A waiter (middle aged man) was unpleasant throughout our dining, which made our dining experience worse beside their food. Server was a friendly man. After we got seated, he told us the specials of the day (like butternut squash soup, peach burrata ($30), penne a la vodka ($20), a char dish with roast potatoes ($35), and stirloin dish. He answered our questions (like the bruschetta is the same size as a pizza, and what certain things, like the penne a la vodka comes with pancetta) and told us the pizza and bruschetta are freshly made. We got there at 6:30 and we understood that since things were freshly made, it will take a while. The arugula on the bruschetta was a different take than my regular bruschetta with basil leaves, but still tasty. It was too much food so next time we won't order an appetizer. The pasta was creamy and had a strong seafood taste. Perfect texture of penne. The pear pizza, with ingredients like honey and pear, I was intrigued and thought it would be sweet. Unlike the honey sesame crust on a maker pizza, I didn't taste any honey. The pear was a very delish addition. Since this pizza had cheese, pear, honey, it did not need tomato sauce - the cheese was creamy and melty inside, kinda like burrata cheese. There was some green thing in it, maybe a herb or very tiny pieces of broccoli. Both the pizza and the pasta were tasty but I think we'd try something else next time We'd be back :) read more

Placed a large order for a family event. Received completely uncooked liver for two separate peoples meals. Called and left a message as well as emailed. No response. Not even a small apology. Far better Italian places nearby. Gratzie, and Cibo will treat you better and not try and kill your. Will not go back here again sadly. read more

My girlfriend and I came here for Summerlicious. It was a small Italian restaurant on Mt. Pleasant. It was a nice little place with checkered table cloths. We were promptly seated and shown the Summerlicious menu. First thing was the restaurant was a little hot, however it was a was a hot day and it could be the fact it was small and the heat from the kitchen was causing the issue. I had to order a beer right away to cool down.  We both ordered the same thing the Caesar salad, Steak with the daily pasta and crème brulee for dessert. The Caesar was good and simple. The dressing had good flavor and the shaved parmesan was a nice touch. The steak was between 6 and 8 oz. It was a little thin but, it tasted great and was seasoned properly. The bowtie pasta that it accompanied was cooked perfectly and the sauce had good zip. The crème brulee was a perfect way to end a good meal. The blueberries on top of the crème brulee were nice a sour and mixed well with the sweet custard at the bottom. I would definitely return to Florentia if in the area. It was simple and the food was delicious. The only issue would be the service was a little rush due to Summerlicious. I would like to return when they do not have the promotion and see if the service is relaxed. read more

My family and I came here for summerlicious to celebrate my sisters birthday. We were quite surprised that we can get a reservation for 9 people for a Saturday night within a short notice but understand why after dinning here. While our server was fantastic, the food wasn't. Aside from the lack of presentation which made some of the dishes look really uninteresting and sad, the taste of the food was also mediocre. I could of made what we were served. Another issue I had with my meal was the quantity, I'm not a big eater but even I found the portion to be in the smaller side. The last issue I have with this resto is the floor. I know this might be petty for some but they have these really bumpy tiles on the floor which makes walking with high heels very dangerous. I'm almost slipped 2x on my way to the bathroom. read more

SERVICE: 10/10. Courteous and friendly with a smile. No complaints whatsoever. FOOD: 2/10. I have no idea who is the chef, but he's / she's clearly not inspired or paid enough. My wife and I were disappointed by the quality of food at Florentia. The Funghi salad she ordered was not worth $12 at all. There was a small piece of cheese in it when she clearly asked the waiter to make sure the salad has absolutely no cheese in it. My $13 Margherita pizza was one of the worst I've ever tried. The dough was atrocious, overcooked and not of the quality you'd expect from an Italian restaurant. Another good indicator of quality was the bread they served at the beginning. The bread was warm but stale. That was a first red flag. In sharp contrast, Grazie Restaurant (2373 Yonge St) serves super fresh, soft and flavourful bread they receive daily from an Italian bakery in Toronto. Now THAT'S how you treat your customers. My advice to you would be to do yourself a favour and go to either Positano (633 Mt Pleasant Rd), Viva Napoli Pizzeria (679 Mt Pleasant Rd) or Lil' Baci (2013 Yonge St). All of them are within walking distance from Florentia and serve MUCH BETTER food. I hope the owner of Florentia either replaces the chef in the kitchen or raises his / her pay to motivate that person to care about the quality of food served to customers. I cannot imagine how someone who loves food and loves to treat customers to nice food would ever settle for such miserable quality of their work. It's beyond me. Florentia, you failed to make a good first impression and as a result, I won't be coming back. read more

Unfortunately, I can only give this sub-par Italian restaurant two stars. Service was 100% spot-on. Friendly, helpful & always available. No issues at all with the service. The room itself seems dirty, I'm sad to report. A fresh coat of paint would do wonders. The existing white-ish paint job is old & the walls are dirty, which makes the whole room feel dirty. Bread provided at the table was mealy & simply not good. The accompanying bowl of oil & balsamic was HUGE. That is wasteful. Enough oil & vinegar for a table of twenty, but we were only two people. My wife had the soup of the day- potato & leek. It was quite good but, & I cannot recall ever having this type of complaint anywhere before, the serving size was pathetically small. Usually I complain of overly large serving sizes. The best part of the whole dinner & there was barely any served! I had a Caesar salad & it was not good. The acidic "house-made" dressing tasted an awful lot like those crappy store-bought brands. The romaine lettuce was mostly brown & the croutons were hard as rocks. I had the spaghetti carbonara as my main. It was just all right- not at all special. My wife had the veal scallopini with a brandy peppercorn sauce. It was served with a side of short pasta in a tomato sauce. Her veal tasted all right & the sauce was correct, but it looked anemic on the plate. The side pasta sauce was fresh tasting, but the short pasta was overcooked. We went last night for a quick bite on the patio. Unfortunately I think they need another server to help with the tables. We experienced orders being forgotten at another patio this weekend so I think it's just a matter of restaurants ramping back up. Also, the food was okay. Pizza and chicken parm were fine. Lastly, there were several dead fruit flies in our balsamic and olive oil dish, not once, but twice after we asked for a replacement dish. I suspect they make their way into the bottle that does not have a cap in the kitchen. Not a great feeling to see dead fruit flies in your balsamic. I wish them will with this upcoming summer season as restaurants get back on their feet. read more

Went here for a Saturday lunch to have the Summerlicious specials. Cozy little place and busy at the time. Got seated quickly and received our water and complimentary bread with olive oil & balsamic for dipping. We ordered the Cozze Marinara & Insalata Caprese for our apps. Our mains were Spaghetti Riviera & Pollo alla Parmigiana. Really good quality & portions for a lunch. Ended meal with Tiramisu & Creme Brulee. Mmmmm. Mount Pleasant isn't short of good restaurants let alone Italian eateries. Florentia is just another one of those "not bad" Italian restaurants. The restaurant itself is cozy and very inviting with an open kitchen concept. The only downside to the open kitchen is that if you're seated near the bar towards the kitchen and the Chef is cooking/grilling something up, you're gonna need some cologne to cover up that scent or change your shirt. My friend and I decided to try a simple Margherita pizza and the seafood pasta. The pizza dough was over cooked and blackened on the crust so it was hard to judge. The rest of the pizza was just okay. I mean, you have to try really hard to ruin a Margherita pizza. The pasta was a different story. Lovely white wine tomato sauce with a decent amount of mussels and shrimp. It was our favorite dish of the two that we ordered. For a pasta dish just under $20, it was as expected from a place on Mount Pleasant. I think Positano just a block up the road has better pizza but Florentia definitely has the better pasta in my opinion. Swing by and check it out yourself.. just don't forget to bring a change of shirt juuuust in case. read more

I was so thrilled when i heard my book group would be dining at an Italian restaurant. I had visions of homemade fresh pasta & hand carved chicken cutlets. So mouthwatering.....i could just taste it. Was i ever wrong. Nothing fresh or homemade in this restaurant. I ordered the chicken cacciatore followed by the tiramisu. The owner began by bringing out 2 plates of bread and a side each of olive oil for dipping (for a table of 15).....there was only enough bread for 1 slice each. The olive oil was absolutely tasteless - I question whether it really was olive oil or just canola oil. Then we waited an hour for the main course. Others that had arrived later, were served, had finished their dinners, and were actually walking out the door, before we even got ours. The cacciatore dinner was arrived with a side of pasta. The pasta was supposed to be spaghetti but instead it was just a hot mess. All sorts of shapes & sizes...it looked like the remains of various types of pasta, and the worst of it was, the pasta was gummy (a serious sin). To top it off the sauce was placed in blobs and tasted like tomato paste. The chicken cacciatore was not chicken, it was a very cheap cut of leathery veal with a square of cheese on top (think Kraft slice) and on top of the cheese was a small blob of that tomato sauce/paste. The dessert, tiramisu was not homemade either, no ladyfingers soaked in chocolate/coffee liqueur, just a bland square, one that you can purchase from your local No Frills grocery freezer. A very disappointing experience. It's a cozy little restaurant in a nice location, too bad the food experience is so disappointing. Save your money & don't bother with this place. read more

Went here for the first time to try their Winterlicious menu. Small family Italian restaurant, just like ones you'd find in Europe! All entrees came with a Chef's pasta of the day, really wished they gave more pasta cause it was really good! Dessert was amazing as well, the tiramisu was exquisite with flavour except the tiramisu portion was just a bit small, but the creme brûlée was just perfect! Just finished a fabulous takeout meal from them. We live nearby and have eaten in lots of times previously. I had sea bass and veggies. Husband had linguine with mussels, shrimp and calamari. Side beet salad rounded out the meal. My only "complaint"'was that I only had two pieces of complementary bread to sop up the leftover sauce from my fish. Had to leave a bit! I came here about a week ago for a family lunch, we were starving so we decided on florentia as it was the first place we came across in the neighborhood. We were surprised as we were the only people there at about 1 on a Saturday. I ordered a margerita pizza and everybody else ordered different pastas. We had soups to start (kale and bean) which were the best part of the meal however being way too salty. The pastas were clearly not home made and the sauce was from a can, the pastas all had carrota, broccoli and other random vegetables that would not be found in a typical italian pasta. My pizza was okay, besides being oily, it was about equal to a pizza from pizza hut. The service was average, and the atmosphere is okay. If youre looking for unauthentic italian food, id recommend here. read more

With the exception of the waitress (who was friendly and very nice), our experience here was terrible. The bread was both warm and stale (how they managed to do that I don't know), and an Italian restaurant needs to have great bread. The pizza I ordered (margherita) was decent: good cheese, but stale crust. The place was too warm (they supposedly have AC, but it didn't seem to be working), and the acoustics are awful (my ears are hurting because the party three tables away from us had very loud people). I def won't be back, which is a bummer since I live close to it. read more

They always do a good job at Florentine. I usually eat a pasta or carne dish here. They also have gluten free options. The interior needs a little bit of work for the type of area it is, but I've seen WAY worse on the west end so I'm not going to dock them any points for this One of the most underrated places to eat on the street. The tiramisu was incredibly good, also tried the panacotta (very refreshing). For antipasto, we had the cold soup and the salad with cheese (forgot the name), both were good and the presentation was great. For mains we had margarita pizza and the penne ala vodka, no complaints for those either, the mains were delicious. read more

We were attending a movie screening, so I Googled to find a restaurant close by for a nice dinner beforehand. What a pleasant surprise! Clean, welcoming and very good food. Our waiter was only four days in but was so friendly and attentive. We had to move tables initially because of a very bright light in my eye, and I found the music a bit too loud. We were looking for a restaurant for Summerlicious and chose this one, somewhat randomly. We didn't have reservations, but were able to have a seat. We had a most incredible meal: vegetable soup, sea bass and dessert. All were done in the Florence way, which is healthy and very tasty! I could eat this meal every day for weeks, it was so good! The staff was amazing! It felt like we were part of the family and they are all from Florence, so the effect is quite authentic. The staff is also very knowledgeable about the wines they offer and if you take their recommendations, you will not be disappointed. My family and I used to go every weekend for dinner. Since the italian boys joined the restaurant, everything changed. The food was fresh, ambience was nice and they were always very welcoming. I would always stop by to have a chat over a cold beer. Since the beginning of the year I have noticed they were not around anymore and every time I would ask where the italian boys were, I would get the answer: "Oh, they are in Italy". For my surprise, last week I ran into Enzo's wife and found out they left Florentia in january. That's why the food is so different. Now I understand why that place is not the same anymore. Too bad. This place had fresh and authentic italian food for a short period of time. I will never forget the ravioli with shrimp. I can't wait to hear from them soon. They made my family weekends memorable. Firstly it must be noted that there has been a change of ownership here and when you know that you will understand the major transition that has come with it. There is no "attitude"" celebrity chef style! Only thing you will find is great food, amazing service and very competent chef/owner combo who put clients above all else. Obvious things maybe, but half the restaurants in Toronto esp. downtown do not fit that description. One of the worst Italian restaurant I have ever been to. Terrible service. Waiter did not know anything and justified by being there after only two days. My friend ordered a glass of white wine and they brought him a Rose. His wife specifically requested a pasta with no shrimp, and they brought pasta with shrimps, and then probably just reheated the same plate and took them out. Terrible beef carpacho and my pasta was cold. I am not a cook, but honestly I can invite you to a much better pasta at home. Do not recommend this place at all. Did not expect this in Toronto mid town, for the price we paid, was completely a waste. read more

Florentia has fast become one of our favourite Italian restaurants in the city. Right from our first visit, the manager, Tino made us feel right at home. Decent wine list (I stick to one or two reds I fancy), and the bread they serve comes with a gorgeous black olive tapenade and is always fresh tasting and delicious. We've tried a few salads (the grilled calamari can be a tad underdone), pastas, pizzas (The Diavola is good, especially when you sprinkle some of their homemade and VERY spicy scotch-bonnet chilli oil on it) and their a la carte main courses. We've yet to be disappointed, and if you can get it, the Osso Bucco is one of the best I've had in a while. The desserts are good, and they brew a pretty solid cappucino. read more
