Beef Truffle - Tagliatelle with sauteed beef tenderloin in a creamy truffle sauce topped with Parmesan.

The 12 apostles would have been delighted at the 12 tables. This charming little spot surprises with its confident blend of refinement and heart. From the first bite to the final sip, the evening unfolded with a sense of intention, warmth, and culinary balance that left a lasting impression. We began with the Tiger Shrimp--five beautifully cooked black tiger shrimp nestled in a creamy white wine and garlic sauce. Rich without being heavy, the dish offered a luxurious start, each bite steeped in flavor yet delicately handled. The Beets & Goat Cheese Salad followed, a vibrant composition of roasted beets, creamy goat cheese, and citrusy orange segments, brought together over fresh greens with a scattering of pumpkin and sunflower seeds. The house-made balsamic dressing tied it all together with a mellow sweetness and tang. A raspberry sorbet intermezzo served between courses was a welcome surprise--light, fragrant, and the perfect palate reset. For mains, the Beef Truffle Pasta delivered indulgence in all the right ways. Silky ribbons of tagliatelle embraced tender cubes of sautéed beef tenderloin, all wrapped in a velvety truffle cream sauce and finished with a generous dusting of Parmesan. It was earthy, rich, and deeply satisfying. The Duck was another highlight--slow-roasted with care, the meat was tender and flavorful. While the skin leaned soft rather than crisp, its sweet glaze and the accompanying orange reduction added depth and elegance, accentuated by notes of caramelized fig, apple, and rustic oven-baked potatoes. For dessert, we sampled both the Pavlova--a delicate Polish meringue dessert--and a rich chocolate brownie, each offering a satisfying conclusion in their own distinct registers of sweet. An Americano café wrapped the meal with just the right roast and warmth. Overall, every dish reflected a kitchen that understands balance--between bold and delicate, familiar and elevated. We left not only impressed but eager to return. This is the kind of place you recommend to friends--but secretly hope they don't tell too many others.

This is for their delivery The moment I lifted the hefty box of fruitti di mare ($17) pasta out of the bag, I knew it was going to be a good meal. The aluminum container was still blistering hot and the dome no match for the lovely seafood aroma that soon filled the kitchen. With bated breath I quickly snapped a few pictures before transferring the pasta to a plate and tucking in... oh my! While the spaghetti wasn't necessarily al dante, the pasta was still a great consistency and tossed with ample sauce so it didn't clump together as some delivery pasta dishes can become. By and large the seafood was still cooked well - the prawns plump and the calamari nicely done - only the shellfish (mussel, clams, and split crab leg) were perhaps a little more shrunken than normal, but still good. It's the sauce that keeps me re-ordering this dish. The tomatoes taste so summery and infused with all the seafood flavours with a mellow garlic finish. Don't let the extras go to waste: it's perfect for dipping their soft fresh bread into, several slices arriving with the delivery order. 12 Tables makes their own sauces, including the salad dressings. While the Caesar salad ($15) was a bit too saturated for my taste, the dressing was at least a well-balanced concoction combining just enough anchovy and garlic to really create that umami-laced sauce without each element being too prominent. With this order, my husband and I were in the mood for our all-time favourite 12 Tables pastas and for him, it's their carbonara ($20). It's sinfully good, the noodles sitting in a thick creamy sauce (the dish is offered with or without cream) that has a healthy blast of pancetta and just a bit of black pepper. If you're in the mood for something rich, you can't go wrong with the carbonara.

Eggplant dish ! More of that delicious sauce please

A HIDDEN GEM ! WHO knew such a great restaurant would be hidden on this quiet little plaza on Avenue Road . I had the pleasure of dining here on Friday evening and the food exceeded my expectations . Started off strong with the *EGGPLANT PARM* which was covered in freshly made tomato sauce and wow , I could eat the sauce just by itself! You can tell the ingredients & produce used were fresh, it made a huge difference in the taste of every dish . I followed the eggplant with the *Crispy Salmon* OH MY GOODNESS : Excellent execution from start to finish. The fish was perfectly seasoned, the right temperature & texture... and my favourite part? The CRISPY SALMON SKIN ! Or maybe it was that white sauce that I mopped up with the yummy potatoes and carrots served on the side . For dessert YOU MUST GET THE *PAVLOVA * ! Fresh fruit, Firm Merengue, delicious berry sauce, you can't go wrong. --THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND-- *The restaurant is small and cozy, which also may mean it could get loud (all depends on the guests) *The Wine list has limited single serve options , so you may have to opt for a full bottle. Especially for the Italian wines . *To me the restaurant seemed tight on staff so you may have a bit of a wait between courses. We definitely waited . All in all a great dining experience &I will be back !

Beef tartare

Loved the duck especially the fig and potatoes that came with it. Took a bite of my friend's cod and it was equally delicious. Good dessert too. BUT the bread could be better, it tasted supermarketish... Great service and nice ambiance compared to the neighborhood.

Branzino fish special

This quaint restaurant got its name because...you guessed it...there are only 12 tables available. The decor is upscale and still charming. This is a family owned restaurant - the husband is the chef and the wife is in charge of the front of the house. When she came to our table throughout the evening it was obvious she cared about everything. After we ordered drinks she offered us a complimentary beef amuse-bouche and told us about the specials in great detail. After dinner, she offered us a choice of two complimentary shots: limoncello or a Polish orange flavoured vodka. She was not stingy in the amount she poured. Who wouldn't love that kind of service? Overall, our group was happy with the food quality, taste and presentation. The only minor issues were: - the pumpkin and sunflower seeds were missing from (or hiding in) the roasted beets and goat cheese salad - there was very little bacon in the Caesar salad, and - the fish special came complete with the head, tail and bones. One person in my party asked for the head and tail to be removed in advance but would have preferred if the fish had been filleted. If you are a beer lover there are only two choices, one of which is called Polar Lager, a nice, light beer from Venezuela. There's adequate free parking on the nearby side streets on Saturday evening and all day Sunday.

Small portions not worth it

Portions are ridiculously small. The pasta is filled half way in the container. For $97 I expect more given most of this was pasta. See my photos for reference.

What a find! My husband and I had a date night at this restaurant, and we were really impressed with the quality of the food, the presentation and the service. They start you off with an amuse bouche, which was a cheese and meat (both delicious!). We ordered the salmon tartare and the beet salad to share! They were both fresh and presented a melange of tastes that melt in your mouth. I ordered the sundried tomato pasta which was amazing, and my husband had the full branzino fish which we both loved. They also serve a sorbet palate cleanser, and homemade bread to start, which comes with oil and vinegar. To finish, they have a digestif (our options were limoncello or an excellent Polish one). Our waitress was very personable, knowledgeable, friendly and attentive. Come here to be treated like a queen (and king) and for a fantastic culinary experience! This is one of my favourite restaurants in Toronto, and we will be back!

Butternut squash soup.

Impeccable and friendly service. Authentic Italian pasta. Creative dishes if you're looking for something a little different, like butternut squash soup with 2 types of squash. Very warm and inviting environment. Decent wine prices. Just a real nice local gem!!!

Cute, quiet restaurant that we chose to celebrate a birthday in. The staff was accommodating and friendly. They offered amuse bouche prior to our meal, and digestifs. We enjoyed the food - the no-cream carbonara was tasty! The truffle with beef was so-so. Drinks were a bit pricey but the cocktails were good.

By far one of the best restaurants in Toronto. The food and service are phenomenal. They show such gratitude to their customers and really make you feel special. Had the Branzino - was delicious!

Beef tenderloin pasta with creamy truffle sauce

This family-owned restaurant brings a cozy feel and the warm goodness of a home cooked meal. If you're expecting the fancy stylings and flavours of an upscale restaurant, you may leave a bit disappointed. But if you're looking for good food, you'll enjoy 12 Tables. We had: - Baked eggplant appetizer: Fresh taste, though would have liked a bit more cheese - Prosciutto and fig salad: Generous serving, with clumps of prosciutto and figs - Beef tenderloin pasta with creamy truffle sauce: Meh. Ok for a creamy pasta but would have loved more if the truffle flavour and the beef was not as tender as I wanted - Frutti di Mare: Really generous serving of seafood to go with a nice tomato sauce - Duck: The absolute star of the show. I don't know how to give this justice but the flavours and cook was just spot on - Pavlova dessert: Generous serving (are you sensing a theme? good for two) and not overly sweet (which was great) - Chocolate lava souffle: Gooey and oozing, just how it should be In addition, servers were very attentive and had a friendly (but not overly familiar or intrusive) vibe. And to top off the meal, they gave us a shot of Polish vodka and Italian limoncello for free - yum! While it definitely is on the pricier side (especially for food that has more of a home cooked feel), I'd still recommend 12 Tables. I hope this neighbourhood gem continues to flourish!

Byblos - Chocolate Olive Oil Cake

Byblos

(987 reviews)

$$$$

Entertainment District, Downtown Core

Food: 5/5 Service: 5/5…read moreAmbiance: 4/5 Food: We had our office holiday dinner here and 15 people attended. We did a set menu which had 3 courses. The first course was Labneh with bread, hummus, & beef tartare. Second course was Lamb pide & pear salad. Third course was grilled branzino, middle eastern fried chicken, black truffle rice, and thrice cooked fries. Then there was dessert which was chocolate mousse cake & baklava. Because of my many food allergies the main server for our table was very attentive & specific in asking me what I wanted as modifications. For example I got a wagyu beef pide instead of the lamb. Every dish was really delicious, presented well & quite filling. I couldn't eat all of the food. Though I tried almost everything. Service: The pacing of the dishes was quite masterful. They really paid attention to when the food was going to come out. As I mentioned above the main server was very attentive to my food allergies. I really appreciated that as some restaurants aren't as attentive. The food was served family style so everyone could take what they wanted from the serving dishes. The dishes were served in little bowls along the tables with each bowl serving about 4 people. We had asked for one long table so it was a little snug. But we made it work. Ambiance: For dinner the lighting of the space is really dim. LOL. I would have appreciated just a little bit more light. The restaurant is in an old building so to use the washroom you had to go down two flights of stairs. The dining area is small also. But it's a pretty space. As mentioned above we asked for one long table to seat 15 people. I was expecting square tables but it was a bunch of small round tables pushed together. So the tables were really crowded with food from all the dishes. But the servers made sure to take empty serving dishes away as soon as possible. The music was a little loud for me so I had to yell to be heard. The place was packed though. Everyone at our table enjoyed the food, the service & atmosphere. The restaurant is close to Roy Thompson Hall & the other theatres nearby so it's a convenient location as well. It's too bad this place is only open for dinner. I would have loved to see how they would operate a lunch time service. In any case, Byblos was amazing. I would come back here again to try other dishes! Note: Some of my pics of the main dishes didn't turn out so it's mostly desserts that are pictures

The open fish market adds to the experience, and the drink selection is solid. Parking isn't the easiest (expect nearby office garages) but if you're there for a weekday dinner, they offer complimentary valet at the St. Regis, which helps. Service 5/5 Top tier. Staff are polished, attentive, and actually know the menu. Recommendations were on point, and everything felt seamless without being overbearing. It's the details that make it stand out, the attention to detail and the care when serving and presenting the food. Food 4.5/5 Went with the lunch menu (great value with an appetizer and main). Quality is consistent with what you'd expect from Milos: fresh, simple, and done properly. They're also mindful of time; if you mention you're on a tight schedule, they can accommodate a one-hour lunch without making it feel rushed. Had the salmon along with salmon tartare and the octopus. Good variety for the prix fixe lunch menu too. So far the best salmon tartare I've had in city.

If you're pressed for time, just let them know when you order - they'll plan to have you out within the hour, or they pick up the tab. I, on the other hand, was in no rush. The staff read the room, paced the meal accordingly, and let us linger comfortably. With four starters and eight mains to choose from (three with supplements), there's plenty of variety, though seafood clearly takes centre stage. I leaned fully into the sea and wasn't disappointed. The salmon tartare was surprisingly, with large chunks of fresh salmon tossed with herbs and finely minced red pepper, giving the dish a bright, meaty freshness. In the dead of winter, that first bite genuinely felt like sunshine - apologies for getting philosophical, but it really hit home. While crostini were scarce, every table receives a basket of freshly grilled bread and a wasteful pour of olive oil. Carb lovers don't worry, there's plenty to scoop up that tartare. The whole dorade royal grilled might sound exotic, but you've likely seen it elsewhere under its more familiar name: sea bream. At Milos, it arrives deboned and finished simply with olive oil, herbs, and capers. That said, if you're squeamish about bones, proceed with caution as the deboning accuracy seems to vary. My plate had only a couple stragglers, while my dining companion's fish had several lingering behind. The dish is simple, clean, and ideal for lunch, so it satisfies without tipping you into post-meal drowsiness. The steamed vegetables were overcooked, though that may appeal to those who prefer their cruciferous vegetables soft rather than crunchy. For anyone who wants to channel a bit of Don Draper energy without returning to work tipsy, Milos' 3oz lunch pours are a great idea. And if you decide to lean in just a little more, they can easily be doubled into a proper glass.

It's perhaps unfair to judge, because though I enjoyed my steak wrap (and it didn't claim to be shawarma), I didn't enjoy it as much as getting a shawarma at many other places and also spent nearly twice the amount. It was still fairly good however, and the $5 draught beer special was a good deal for sure. It was probably about 15 minutes between the time I ordered and when I got the food, so this is clearly not the place to go if you're in a rush. But I'd say the food was worth the wait. That cheese crust is the obvious star of the show here, while the fresh, soft bread is also quite delicious. The other components are tasty too, but the patty itself is the weakest link. It didn't have any kind of crust and just seemed a little on the bland side. But that's a minor complaint for a rather decadent lunch that I quite enjoyed eating.
