In summer 2024 the kid had tennis or swimming lessons at the SMU complex across the street from La Madeline so we went for brunch after her lessons. One year ago in 2024 (I write in June 2025) we had positive experiences with the food, service, and cleanliness. We became fans of La Madeline once again after a long hiatus. In 2025, the situation was different. Our silverware and dishes were not cleaned well and had residue. The wife did not enjoy her French breakfast and said it was not good quality. The croissant was greasy and heavy. My tomato soup was good (just warm, not hot though), but my grilled cheese took forever and a day to get it so that the soup was gone. I had hoped to dip the sandwich in the soup. The kid did not like her pasta and they got the order wrong. Basically, the meal was close to disaster all the way around. I think it is going to be hard to get the family to agree to return anytime soon. read more

We have been eating at the Mockingbird location since they opened in the early 80s. It is very disappointing that bread, pastries and food selections have lost the authentic French bakery standard for quality. It seems such a waste to let this restaurant chain get to this state. My husband loves the blueberry muffins, but all of the croissants have lost their crispiness. Today we had the spinach and Loraine quiches. The dough was thick and doughy and the quiches were not creamy or flavorful. The bread loaf we ordered, had not risen properly and was like only 2" tall. Came for a very late dinner and enjoyed myself immensely. The place was clean, the order was prompt, the place was nice in clean sort of way and the food was everything I had hoped. In fact, I may have over eaten a bit! I started off with the country potato soup. Very thick and hearty. I'm a sucker for potato soup and this one didn't disappoint. I also had the classic Croque Monsieur sandwich which is basically a toasted ham & swiss cheese. I probably ordered too much. Both of them together were quite a hit with me and I only wish I was able to come more often and try more of the menu. I guess I'll have to wait until my next trip to Dallas. Waited about 45 minutes for to-go food when the restaurant was quite empty. The people working at the front don't know what they're doing & take their time despite knowing how long it was taking. Once I finally asked where my food was they told me "someone took my order." When actually, the workers handed my order to the wrong person. I love restaurants that don't take advantage of their customers with their inflated pricing but cares about the quality of their food and service. We are not from around Texas and we came to this restaurant 10 minutes before they close looking for some keto/sugar-free dessert (which they don't have btw, so I don't mislead you). The gentleman who was there, I think he was the owner or the manager, was nice enough to answer our questions and asked us of our stay in Dallas. He didn't try to shoo us or hurry us up even they were about to close. We didn't get what we came that night for but it was such a pleasant place with a relaxed atmosphere and we saw the prices on the desserts were fair so we decided to just come back in the morning. They open at 7pm. For having a closing time of 10pm, they open early. I asked the gentleman for a menu list that I can take home so I'd have more idea of what I might order for breakfast. He said that I can take home one of the their menu card which I thought was too fancy to take home. And that should tell you this place is not profit greedy! The next morning we came back for breakfast. You would have to line up to the cash registry to order. I ordered a Country French Breakfast, Cafe Americano double shot and a slice of their Sacher chocolate cake. The server asked me how I like my eggs, and I went with over easy. They give you two eggs for the Country French Breakfast and you get to choose your meat. My husband ordered a Crepe Madeleine which was a savory crepe with chicken, rice, broccoli, Swiss cheese, topped with mushroom sauce. We love the food. The coffee was hot and wonderful. The food was not salty nor the dessert too sweet which you usually get in most breakfast places. The food were light and just perfect. Our total bill for all we got was only $34. Other restaurants would've easily charge us with $60 for our order but this place doesn't overcharge you. The place is nice and clean! The atmosphere is homey and the staff are nice. In the ladies restroom they have a recording of some French phrases you can learn which I thought was very thoughtful. Would love to be back here when I'm back in the area. read more

Service is always on point and very courteous. Even when they are busy they still get things done on a timely fashionable way. We came in for lunch and really enjoy their French Dip hot sandwich (full order) it's plenty to split between two, just ask kindly for a second dipping sauce and they will get you taken care of. We also love their chicken Caesar salad and all of their pastries. Breakfast is so delicious and their coffee is hot fresh and pleasant. If they run out, no worries they always have a back up freshly brewed and ready to go. We enjoy the outdoors patio on sunny days and crisp fall weather too. Being right next to SMU campus is the cherry on top! The way they run this business is very well thought out. The staff is well synchronized and things flow smoothly. Back in the 90's I had a lot of cousins fresh out of high school that had part time jobs that later became full time jobs. At this location. I love la Madeline! Ok so most of the poor reviews aren't about the food but the service - personally, and coming from LA, I wasn't shocked by the service and felt like employees were just doing their jobs! Not warm & fuzzy but definitely not rude! We ordered a mini lemon tart, a crème brûlée as well as a slice of chocolate cake & an apple juice- total was just about $15 which is very reasonable. My husband and I recently moved back to Cumming and was very excited to see a la Madeleine a bit closer to us. When we walked in, I immediately knew it was a mistake; but thought would give it a chance. Should have just turned around. This location is very different than the others; it looks like they were trying to save money when they built out this location. The other locations are warm, inviting, cozy, and relaxing. The other locations are probably about the same size-roughly, but there are smaller areas you can sit just create by walls. There are 2 sitting areas created by the fireplace. Speaking of the fireplace, it was not warm at all. At the other locations you can feel the heat from the fireplace when sitting close; this locations you can barely feel any heat. We both ordered one of favorites, my husband the Croque Monsieur and myself the Chicken la Madeleine. My husband had not been happy with the Croque Monsieur for some time (at the other locations) because they had changed the bread for the worst. Unfortunately, this location was the same - the not as good bread the other locations had changed to a bit ago. Now the Chicken la Madeleine 'their signature dish,' the amount of chicken you receive has greatly decreased. It used to be a half of a chicken breast (roughly) that was then cut slanted into slices. By half I mean cut length wise, or it looked like it. Now it is some extremely thin slices of chicken stacked on top of each other to make it look like it more than it actually is. To get the slices so thin they probably cut it on a slicer. The other locations had been changing as well - not sure if it is new mgmt. for the locations, some are probably franchises, &/or just cost cutting; either way changes are not for the better. read more

We decided to give it a try since we both enjoy quiche and salad cafes. The restaurant is located next to the college bookstore and was busy at lunch on a Friday. Food is ordered at the counter. the women behind the counter were less than friendly or helpful. We both decided on Caesar salads. My wife order Quiche Florentine and I picked Quiche Lorraine. Two coffees for drinks. Unfortunately, we got stuck in the back room next to a group of three men who had long finished their drinks but not their meeting. We had to endure the virtues of plastic surgery and hear how wonderfully he managed his business while we ate our very bland quiches and salads. Sometimes, one needs a little French in their diet, even if it is a chain from Dallas! This location is almost always near perfect and this trip was no exception. I noticed the menu had changed and my favorite was no longer served. Thus I went with my second favorite, the French Dip along with a bowl of mushroom soup. The steaming soup was ladled into a large bowl and I was happy. They always have small pieces of fresh bread available plus plenty of butter. The ice tea was perfect and they had plenty of large lemon slices. I found a nice table next to a mural of a French country setting. It was fun to let my mind wander into the French country side. I get takeout French dips occasionally from this location- close to my house. I order through the app and earn some perks here and there. The sandwiches have always been good with fresh bread- nice and hot. Side Caesar salads are ok. I ordered the tomato kale soup recently and it was NOT good but today their mushroom soup surprised me. The Florentine quiche was good. Smallish portions but everyone knows the French eat lightly. The thermos for the Americano coffee probably is broken as it was just barely warm. Patio was very clean and just a tad of traffic sound at evening rush hour but I think the thick hedge screen helps a lot with that. It was a bit of a drizzle but the sunbrellas shades over the table handled quite well. Plenty of space inside but I like the open air. The counter people were very pleasant, but if you are pressed for time this might not be as fast as say, a Burger King. Rude customer service! First of all the cashier was annoyed because I needed a moment to look at the menu. I wasn't holding anyone up and would have gladly moved if anyone was behind me. I came to use my La Madeline app reward buy one get one free dinner after 5pm just scan your code with your phone. I was asked to give my phone to her (I've never been asked that before at any location). So she begins swiping through the app and she's like ok pay with linked card and I tell her no they have two different codes to pay with or without and I have the pay without on the screen ready to swipe to use already. She goes and scans it anyway with pay with linked card thinking she's slick. So it ended up not going through -- why because that card isn't active anymore. Instead of just letting the customer swipe and choose because it's on my side to swipe anyway shes doing way too much and inspecting my phone. Had she asked me why I did not want to use with linked card I could have told her because I have not updated my new card on my app, which neither was important to finalize my transaction because I had my current card in hand ready to pay. It's been to long since I visited La Madeleine Bakery and Cafe. The ambiance is still as I remembered. Oh how I missed the rich delicious potato soup. The Chicken La Madeleine is still as delicious as I remembered. The people are very kind and so accommodating from assisting with the menu if you are new or patron as myself. French coffee is one of my favorites. What I did miss was the french bag-gets slices and the marmalade jellies. But if you ask for them the manager knows exactly what you want. So you can still enjoy the sour dough bread and marmalades. Now for the bakery side of the cafe. Filled with all the rich and delicious sweets. Let me say this if you haven't ever had french pastry then you should start here. This is my opinion. But if you have seem me you'd know I try a lot of pastries. LOL. Lastly I miss the La Madeleines that was on Lemon street but now all things are good I have a new location to enjoy some great french cuisine. Unique Little cafe at a Busy Airport. This restaurant is a little bit of a unique dining experience, compared to the usual airport food. It's basically a simple soup and sandwich cafe. You order at the counter and they deliver your food in paper containers. They also have some tempting croissants and pastries in the display counter up front. I ordered the three salad sampler. I selected the cup of onion soup, chicken salad, and strawberries Romanoff. My wife ordered the tomato basil soup, what she tells me was very tasty. Our order was completed surprisingly quickly, but the salads are really just small portions in paper cups. The strawberries Romanoff is just three fat strawberries in a cup. So not a terribly impressive presentation. I thought the onion soup as well as the chicken salad were very tasty. So overall, it was a pretty good meal. Not very elegant, but pretty healthy anyway. Despite the sort of tacky method of serving the food, it actually was a good meal at a reasonable price. Surprisingly economic option. If you're interested in a full meal, this Cafe is probably not the right choice. On the other hand, if you're looking for a light meal with lower calories, this is a decent option. read more

The outlying restaurants have fallen off in recent years and Id hoped this one was still humming on all cylinders. But the Caesar salad I had for lunch was a franken-salad with pieces of iceberg lettuce! The tomato basil soup is still solid but the strawberries in the Romanoff were bitter. overall you can get a passable lunch here at a reasonable price but nothing special.
