I decided to treat my team from work here for a holiday dinner, and I was pretty underwhelmed by the service. Although our food was pretty good, our waitress was not very friendly. The place is pretty small, so my team took up quite a bit of space in the restaurant. Any time we asked the waitress a question she was very short and she acted as if we were bothering her, and truly did the bare minimum the whole time we were there. When the bill came there was an automatic 20% gratuity. As good as the food was, I don't know if I'm inclined to come back based on my experience. I feel that if there's an automatic 20% included, then we should have at least gotten better service, or at least a better attitude. It was disappointing because it was supposed to be a fun outing for my team before the holidays.

We were visiting Detroit for the weekend, and we gave this place a shot since we were in the mood for Italian. Super glad we did! It's a smaller restaurant, but they make efficient use of the space by utilizing the bar and pizza area for seating. Upon getting there, we were greeted by extremely friendly staff. They did not have any tables available, but they would soon. They told us to walk around, and they would call us. They did, and we had a table within 30 minutes. Every bite of food we ate was divine! The limoncello wings were some of the best wings I have had. I usually don't get excited over calamari, but this calamari was fantastic. Our entrees were extremely delicious. What is not pictured is the octopus appetizer that my son got. Holy moly this was one of the best things we ordered!! I highly recommend this place and will be back on my next visit to Detroit!

Visiting Detroit this week for work and found this gem! I sat at the bar and got excellent service! The vibes were so lovely and the food impeccable. I tried the panzanella salad and the chicken Parmesan. I would recommend both but ask for light dressing on the salad as it had a little too much dressing. Overall I highly recommend it here!

Stumbled into La Lanterna after checking into my hotel on a Friday afternoon while in town for an event. I just wanted a quick lunch before heading out later and ended up having a great experience. The bar was pretty lively for a Friday afternoon, even before work officially ended, but I was still able to snag a seat. The staff was super friendly, which made it even better. I ordered the vodka chicken parm along with a drink special since happy hour was just starting. The portion was massive, easily one of the biggest chicken parms I've had, and it came with a full serving of spaghetti. For around $25, the value was excellent. Super filling and really well done. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area. Great Italian food and great value.

Had a nice meal here with colleagues! We all enjoyed the different pizzas and even our gluten-free colleague was able to enjoy pizza! The octopus appetizer was delicious! They even gave our birthday lady a special treat.

Fried artichokes. Very delicious. Will go back just for this

Special shout out to La Lanterna for making our group outing a special experience! We had a very large group of people stop in prior to a show at the Opera House. I made a resy for 12 which unexpectedly turned into 18 at the last minute. Thank you for accommodating us with amazing food and service!

Came for a late lunch. It was very crowded and the only available seating was outside. Although the portions were on the smaller side, the food was high quality and fresh tasting. The Carciofi (fried artichoke hearts) stole the show and I highly recommend ordering. Overall, I enjoyed the meal and would return, however I would try something that isn't pizza.

They were very busy when I visited at 5pm on a Saturday evening, and with good reason. The restaurant is small with a few tables by the door next to the bar and more tables on the other side of my bar and back towards the pizza oven. The host stand was about a foot or two away from the door, so the line to be seated will easily spill out onto the sidewalk. I ordered ahead for a pickup order. It included Tagliatelle Alla Bolognese which was amazing. I wish it came with bread to fill me up a bit more, but it was enough to satisfy me. I love anything bolognese, and surprisingly this was the first time I've tried it with sweet peas. It was a slightly different flavor, but for the better. I highly recommend making a reservation, even if you visit on a weekday due to the small interior. But it'll be worth it!

First time eating at La Lanterna. Stopped in after opening day of the tigers and it was packed both inside and out. Ordered the Americano pizza and an Italian peroni beer. Real authentic atmosphere and the waiter was prompt and courteous. If you are in the big D you need to stop and try it.

Man OH Man...What a fantastic place if you love Italian food! Came here from a family member's recommendation who works downtown. If you don't know it's here, would be hard to fine. Service was great! We had Hannah who was SO nice and SO helpful. We ordered (per cousin's recommendation) the Chicken Parmesan and also the penne with a pear sauce. Yes you read that right. You HAVE to try it to love it. Really in truly EXCELLENT! (I was raving about the pear sauce and Hannah threw a few more pears on top). Was pretty crowded so they have a few tables outside on the street which worked out perfect since it was a lovely evening and not too crowded since no major events downtown. DO NOT PASS LaLanterna BY!!

Side of garlic baguette, so good!

I've been here twice in the last couple of months and absolutely love their Le Petite Pollo (it's basically chicken Parmesan) but it's delicious! Their homemade meatballs too? They're the best meatballs I've ever had. The boyfriend agrees as well. Service has been fine both times we went, it's a little walk around the corner from Campus Martius...It is VERY loud though..between the super high ceilings, no carpet, music pretty loud, if you're going out on a date night, don't do it with someone new. They won't hear you lol! 4.5 if I could but the noise , there was cackler at the bar and man did you want to tell her to take down a notch...

Always incredible food and service! Ynocencio the bar tender is amazing! He is friendly and attentive, the drinks are delicious, made with care and most have a fun twist like smoke and bubbles. Always a treat when we are in Detroit!

The building tickled my history nerd bones and has cozy seating both indoors and outdoors. I didn't visit the bathrooms (can't break the seal!), but apparently they're really cool too. Everyone we interacted with was sweet, fun, and very attentive to our dining experience. Our server Chelsea was very knowledgeable of the wine & food menus and thoughtful in her recommendations to ensure we were all satisfied with the meal. My wine snob uncle left impressed and my vegan mom left full carrying leftovers. The food is shareable and there was plenty to go around at our table of five. The veggies were fresh, the meats were tender, the desserts were naughty but delightful. No notes. Would definitely recommend this place for a date night, a girl's night, or any night you're in the mood for good wine, good food, and good times.

If you could not tell by their name, this is an old Detroit Fire house, located back in a residential/ industrial like area. As you drive to it, you might think, you're lost or going the wrong way....keep going a pleasant surprise awaits your arrival. The interior design and renovations are really, really impressive and pay homage to the years of service as a firehouse, while creating a new vibrant, cozy atmosphere for diners to enjoy. This is a wine bar, no cocktails. And, you will not find any mass produced wines on their extensive list of options. Most all of the wines they offer are estate bottled, French style wines where growers control everything from the planting of the grapes to the bottle. It's an education, and one their staff seems so well versed on, helping you find something you will enjoy. they allowed us to sample a couple before ending on a really good Rose. We ordered a number of small plates which included: Sourdough with beillevaire butter, a generous portion of bread, served warm, soft inside, crunchy outside and the butter was the best tasting butter we have ever had! We also had the shrimp cocktail with horseradish sauce, 6 nice sized shrimp, firm, cold, fresh and very flavorful. Lastly whet they called a "tiny salad" it's basically a Caesar. This was also amazing with breadcrumbs mixed into the dressing, so flavorful. We would do all of these dishes over again. No Meal is complete without dessert; we chose the burnt basque cheesecake with Pedro ximenex sherry. This hands down is the best cheesecake we have ever had, and we love cheesecake. Our server was very cordial, helpful and so knowledgeable not just educating us about their wine selections, but also about their sourcing and philosophy on food. So glad we had the experience. We will definitely be back again.

Each course was imaginative and novel. I thought the flavors were amazing. The Caponata was amazing. When the server explained the course, I had no idea what it was going to taste like? It was so good. The other standout for me was the Tiramisu. I have never had a tiramisu like this one. Each course is on the small side, which I like. The restaurant is small. There is a bar area (maybe 10 people?) and a few tables. It is super cute and intimate. We were easily able to talk. Great service. Our server was attentive. She explained each course and was able to answer questions. This ranks near the top of my dining experiences. This is much more of an adventure. Probably not for the chicken-tendy crowd. Not inexpensive. I can't wait to eat here again.

There was a 2 top table at the back that we were seated at - we could have sat at the bar also - and it was a great spot. We ordered the tasting menu and WOW, every course was amazing. I'll post pics because the presentation was gorgeous for each item. They have a small cocktail and wine and beer selection, but that was fine. My son got their Shrub Mocktail and I got the Shrub with Sake. Both were delicious and so interesting. I can't pick a favorite item because they were all so good, but the Torched Mackerel and Poached Bosc Pear were tied for #1, followed by the Salmon, Oysters and the crazy good Blood Orange dessert. The shrimp toast was just ok for me, not bad, just not as good as everything else. Additionally the service was outstanding. For a tiny place they did everything right. They explained each course, brought out fresh utensils for every course - YEA! - and made sure we had good pacing. Our server was knowledgeable and friendly and enhanced our meal. I really want to come back and try the oysters and some of the tinned items. I'm so excited I found Mink and will be back for sure.

They have a nice drink menu with a wide choice of wine (obviously) but also some interesting liquor and beer options. Their cocktail program is actually quite unique. If you want to buy bottles though, I think this is where they excel, because they have some really nice bottles available for sale, which of course you can drink on the spot, but they do charge a $20 corkage fee, which is why I knocked them down a star. I can understand if you're bringing your own bottle, but if you're buying the bottle there, I think it's kind of crazy to have that high of a fee. Just my opinion though.
