Wife and I were hanging in Campus Martius and decided we needed wine and pizza!!! (like who doesn't right?) Spending a lot of time downtown Detroit but never been to La Lanterna we were excited to try to out. Boy am I glad we did! Walk into La Lanterna it has a really nice cozy bar in front and seating all the way back to the kitchen where you can watch the yummy magic happen!! Place was clean and class but not fancy. Wife and I sat at the bar where they had one TV playing collage football bowl games. Nice touch and not distracting because no sound. We were looking at the wine list, pretty good selection, and ended up with white wine to go with our olive oil pizza. Wine was cold and they supplied us with a wine chiller. A must for white wine. Wine prices are typical and not extremely high as some restaurants in the area. We started with the chop salad and it was delish! All the ingredients were fresh and the artichokes were the real deal. We then moved onto the Fiorentina Pizza which I absolutely loved. It's Mozzarella, Garlic, Spinach, Parmigianno, E.V.O.O and came out perfectly cooked. I believe it was 10" and only $12 so not bad at all. Between the salad and the pizza it was plenty of food for the wife and I. End results: Nice place, really good pizza (all pasta looked great), really good salad, good wine selection, full bar, and staff was all great. I really look forward to coming back to try the lasagna. Great addition to my rotation of must stops. read more

Locally-owned Italian restaurant in downtown Detroit,Michigan that you HAVE to try. Great prices, great service and most importantly, great food! I had the Panzanella salad, the portion was huge (enough for 2, maybe 3 people. My boyfriend had the lasagna, it was delicious! Probably won't make a trip back after the poor service experience. A fan of Foxtown back in the day was happy to see the Da Edoardo restaurant group opened something back up in Detroit. A group of us decided to head out for brunch and were excited for the $2 mimosa deal. We were greeted and sat no problem. We had ordered 3 mimosas 2 bloodys which took probably 15 minutes to receive. No idea what was going on since there was about 10 tables total sat. We had all ordered and I will say stick with the pizza options. The hangover pizza was very good. I also ordered the Chicken Milano and a mimosa refill. I never received the mimosa refill and my entrée came with a small piece of chicken maybe 3oz and as told another piece was on its way? (which of course came after I was finished with my meal). Compliments to the arugula salad and dressing. Very good and light. Unfortunately the dressing and pizza isn't enough for me to come back with the slooooowwwwww service. We decided to as a table to order another round after I never received my refill and yes it took another 15-20 minutes to receive. If two start means meh, then that perfectly sums up my experience here. Not awful but I probably wouldn't come again, though it was worth trying. I came here with my friend for a Saturday lunch because it's close to the office. I got the chicken marsala, and I thought the chicken was done nicely, juicy and tender, even though I usually stay away from chicken because it tends to be dry. However, the sauce was incredibly salty and difficult to eat without downing several glasses of water. This may be a plus for some people, and I can think of a few of my friends who would like this, but I personally don't like food that's really salty and it's one of my biggest pet peeves with restaurant food. I also didn't like the space because it was very echo-y so people near us had to talk louder to be heard and then we couldn't hear our conversation over that somehow, even though it wasn't very full. Not inherently bad, as it can be nice to be in place with spacious ceilings, but for us it wasn't ideal. Service was good, and we were in and out in the time expected. My friend's food did come a full five minutes later than mine, which can feel awkward, but not a big deal. Our water glasses stayed full and everyone there was very nice. If you're thinking of trying it, I'd give it a shot, but it wasn't for me. read more

I called about a month in advance of when I was hoping to visit the restaurant and I was told that they only take reservations for parties of 6 or more. I definitely understand that as I would want to ensure I had space for my walk in customers if I was a business owner. The date I was planning to come to dinner I made sure to arrive earlier than dinner rush. Me, my two kids, and my husband arrived at 5:15 to a half empty restaurant and was told that they were completely full with reservations and couldn't seat my family until 8:00 pm. I proceeded to ask about the kitchen bar in the back and was told that was being "held", not reserved. I then asked if there were any tables held for walk-ins and was told they couldn't do anything for me. Meanwhile multiple couples and people without children walked in and sat down. I was told I could speak to the manager but he was too busy to turn around and speak with me. Thankfully there are other restaurants in the city who were happy to seat a family with kids who enjoy great food and wine. read more

Stopped in for dinner and I wish I'd taken pictures! Three of us sat at the bar and enjoyed a casual but not intrusive banter with the bartender. Nice beverage selection - i choose a red wine and wasn't disappointed. House salad was fresh and the dressing was incredible. I asked for bread and we were served garlic Texas toast for no additional charge. I got the grandma shells with meatballs and it was amazing!!! Disappointed today... We order take out from here often and they recently switched the fries up on us. They were usually thin and crispy but today they served us some strange new thick fry that was soggy and not good. There was no warning that the fries had changed. La Lanterna has the best Italian food in Detroit in my opinion. The food is priced well for the portions and it is located in the heart of Capitol Park. Street parking can be a bit difficult to find but there are parking structures surrounding as well. In the summertime they have outdoor seating, as well. read more

Perfect meal and great service! Meatballs are delicious- a perfect appetizer! We tried the gnocchi- not my favorite, the dough was too loose. The pizzas were excellent- we tried the La Lanterna and the Rocket. Dust off the residual flour in the bottom and those are perfect pies! The Bamba dessert ( I think that was the name) is amazing- gelato encased in a chocolate shell with raspberries and caramel. Yum! read more

Was surprised on how empty this place was at around 6pm on Valentine's Day! They did end up filling up a little bit towards the end of our visit. Our server was very friendly and attentive. We decided to order the calamari and tris di pasta. It was plenty of food for the 2 of us. Server said the calamari would be the best we've had, and it was not. It was good, but def. not the best. You set expectations really high when you say stuff like that! The tris di pasta included gnocchi, ravioli, and the bolognese. The gnocchi was Not good at all, and I am a gnochhi lover! It was chewy and had a weird after taste. The dish came out very lukewarm and it was a bit off putting. The other two pastas were good, I would most likely order the bolognese as a dish on its own next time. Overall, ok experience. Would go back, just order something different next time. My boyfriend and I are visiting Detroit for a few days, and in a new town, we always try a new Italian restaurant. I saw a picture of the Tagliatalle alla Bolognese in a local magazine, and I knew we had to come here to try the food. Let me tell you, it looks as good as it tastes! Everything else we had (the meatballs, the tortellini, and the frutti di mare) tasted delicious; the Cabernet was amazing, as was my boyfriend's Belgian white. The service was on point as well. Our server, John, was very attentive and checked on us regularly. I highly, HIGHLY recommend this restaurant when visiting Detroit. We look forward to coming back when I town again! read more

This spot was a real win! I had a gluten-free friend visiting town and was reading up on gluten-free friendly spots. This spot was at the top of the list and I couldn't have been happier. We got there for dinner on a Saturday night and there was thankfully a free table outside - no reservations for small groups - big plus! Nathan was our server, and he was so good! Talked us right into our salad selection (garden salad - really great here... I'm not normally one to rave about a salad, but I ate every drop). Then made great gluten-free pasta recommendations for my friend (she loved!) and a great pizza recommendation for me. Delish. Cocktails looked excellent, but we had just come from Sugar House... next time for sure. Cool little spot downtown, high-rises all around you, but a cute little park right across the street that you could take take-out to if things were busy. My husband, my sister, my brother in law and myself all came here for dinner tonight and the service was unbelievable. What made our experience so memorable was the bartender behind the bar (we ate at the bar). Ynocencio made our experience everything and more as we had never been here before. He was extremely attentive to us and his attention to detail was unmatched from any dining experience that we've had in the past. He will be the reason that we come back. The food was amazing! I looked over and watched my husband closing his eyes as he savoured each and every bite of his meal. The customer service is nothing like I've ever experienced. Went on Sunday the 8th. Pretty solid brick oven to cook the pizza. Server was sweet and nice. Blood Orange Mimosa and Bloody Mary were delicious. Great new spot in Detroit for good quality pizza, which I felt was missing. Although the location is smaller than I excepted, we did not wait too long on a Friday night. Between 3 friends we split 2 pizzas, Fiorentina and the Primavera. Both were delicious, they did not skimp on toppings. I also enjoyed the house salad as a starter, dressing was very good. Possibly Our Worst Dining Experience Ever! We entered at around 9 PM on a Saturday night to a packed house and were told that we'd have a 5 minute wait. It wound up being closer to 15, but no harm there. My wife noticed that the waiter's affect was a little "off." We wound up attributing that to inexperience, which we only figured out after our epic negative experience that was to come. We ordered and were settling into our pre-dining appetites, when the waiter reappeared to tell me that they were out of my dish. After I reordered, they brought our 9 year old's dish out, which we were pleased about. However, at least 20 minutes passed and still no entres for us. Finally after about 30 minutes, the bar tender approaches our table to inform us that they were out of the dish that both my wife and I ordered!! Of course, they offered to comp our consolation pizzas (which we had to resort to at this point). But wait, there's more! Next, they delivered the wrong pizza to me and I had to wait for them to remake the correct one! After all that, the pizza was mediocre at best and rather than comping our complete meal for the terrible 2 hour experience that they were responsible for, they only took off our pizzas and one glass of wine of the 2 my wife had. I cannot imagine that paying the potential full price of our meals there would've been worth it. Maybe we just missed out on some phenomenal entres, but all things considered, I highly doubt that. Did I say that this was our worst dining experience ever???!! I can't say it enough. read more

I'm obsessed with this place!! The pasta is impeccable. They put so much flavor on your plate, and you will leave full and happy. They have amazing pizzas too! I've had the fried artichokes a couple of times and they are to die for! I'll definitely always get those. The restaurant is just big enough to not feel cramped, but still has a cozy feel. I'm sad to post this review, but we were so disappointed. We've heard such great things and I'm sure it was just an off day on their part, but it just wasn't a great experience for us. 15 minutes for drinks.... We let that go.... Then my pasta comes out first "so it doesn't get cold".... And then they brought my salad out ...probably another 20 minutes until we got my husbands halibut meal. The waitress kept saying it was coming and let us know that it takes longer ... which i understand but the kitchen should know how to time things. My pasta was cold by the time his meal came out, and by that time he was ready to go and got a to go box. I feel bad posting this because i know it's so hard to get good help... but we didn't really get a genuine apology or even a manager over. read more

I really like super thin crust, like a cracker and this was not that, but it was not thick either. The dough had great flavor. Late after packet pickup, we were looking for something to eat around the TCF center, and this place had good reviews so we decided to go for it. It was pretty busy but a wait for a table for 2 was only about 10 minutes which wasn't bad at all. It took a bit for our waiter to greet us but it gave us the time to choose what to eat and order immediately. We got the house salad, the la lanterna, and the bologna. House salad was surprisingly good and refreshing with whatever dressing that they use. The la lanterna was the better pizza by far - I'm normally not a fan of sausage on pizza but it worked on this pizza. Crust was thin with a slight char, and the rest of the ingredients were fresh and delicious. The bologna though is what brought this review down to four stars. One good thing - I didn't expect the pistachios to work on a pizza but they did. I honestly would've been good if the pizza had been the cheese and pistachios but the cold giant bologna slices on the warm elements of the pizza ruined the bite instantly. Blegh pass on this one unless you like cold bologna. All in all, I'm sure I would've loved the rest of their pizzas, and the pasta that everyone else was ordering looked amazing. First before I get to the food, I would like to acknowledge the amazing customer service. We came as a family of 6 no reservation and they accommodated us swiftly. Very nice and attentive. The customer service will be be the primary reason I return. We got 2 cappuccino. Once I added more sugar is was very yum. We ordered 2 americano pizzas. Very good, fresh. I got the chicken parm which was very flavorful and delicious. My mother got the shrimp/clam pasta which was soooooo good. So glad we decided to try this place out! read more

(Same family) Additional $9 cost at La Lanterna who is only rated $$. Staff very friendly and accommodating. Moscato, small portion, $13 a glass overpriced. Never met an expensive Moscato. Wine should be chilled longer. No parking available. Parking lot closed. Had to use Prime and Proper valet, due to recent surgery. Very loud. The food was excellent, though. Same wonderful sauce as DaEduardo's. My friend has been going to DaEduardo's for 30 years with her husband. So we love the family. I ordered through Door Dash today (super quick) and was not impressed by the food. The pic is an accurate portrayal of how my food arrived and the portion size which didn't seem to be worth the $17+ I paid...especially this day in age. This is a hidden gem in the heart of downtown Detroit. Located conviniently within walkong distance from office parks, river walk and other hotels. The ambience of this place is wonderful. The semi open kitchen offers for a quick peak into whats cooking. The servers and hostess are pleasant. I ordered the salmon entre with spinach. The Salmon was a little overdone and turned dry. The Spinach was over seasoned with Salt. Being unable to decide on the entre, I placed a side order for a Fettuchine Alfredo. This is perfectly cooked. The Alfredo was creamy and finger licking good. To top the food off the gelato was a spot on. The sea salt chocolate gelato is to die for. The intense chocolate is complimented with the hint of salt giving it a unique falvor. read more
