Very extensive tapas menu. They do have an English menu too. Service was a team approach, therefore your food comes to to table quickly but not too fast. I'm sure I could have chosen anything on this menu and would've been totally satisfied. All tapas dishes were very hot and fresh, just the way it should be. The The sangria was very delicious, not too sweet and plenty of fruits added. This restaurant is a sure bet to take friends to that would like to experience good Tapas. You will not be disappointed. You may have to wait, but not really as long as the host states. I guess the greatest thing about Tapas served well is that the tables turn over a lot faster than your typical restaurant. Back in Barcelona after 2 years! Such a great city...such great food. Really is a special place. We found La Flauta on their last day before they closed for their summer vacation our first trip. Our first experience was amazing! Food was delicious and wine was amazing! What's great about coming to Spain is you get such great value on your local wines, even if you buy a bottle at a restaurant. You really don't need to spend more than €20 for a good bottle. La Flauta itself is a great value. Food and service are solid and price is really reasonable. This time around we had some of our favorites and also had a couple other dishes. You definitely have to get the Foie Gras dishes they have. You can get it solo or on a piece of sirloin, both are set atop a piece of their local bread. Same bread used for the famous Pan con Tomate. Order a plate of the local Jamon they serve...it's not the Iberico, but still delicious. The charred green peppers are great, and no they're not spicy. We also had the Bacalao (Cod), Garlic Shrimp, and the Shrimp and Calamari skewer. One note on the skewer...watch out because they don't de-vein the shrimp...so you'll have to perform your own shrimp enema. Finish it off with their Crema Catalana and you'll have a very solid meal. My husband is vegetarian and I don't eat shellfish. One might wonder why we insisted on getting tapas every night while we were in Barcelona.. That being said, we had a great time here. Camembert brochete (fried breaded Camembert) and cabreaos (fries with egg) were really tasty. I also had the bacalao (salted cod) which had a nice texture and came with a delicious relish. After taking in the magic fountain at Montjuic, my friend and I were starving having just landed in Barcelona. We made the trek to Cervesería Catalana only to be greeted by an hour-long wait, so we hopped over to La Flauta instead and were the better for it. Within ten minutes we were seated. After one or two meals in Barcelona (or Spain in general), one learns not to worry too much what to order: get what you like, and ask the server for recommendations. We followed this advice at La Flauta, and were richly rewarded. Get the cod fish with honey and "all i oli" (intentional misspelling?). This was in fact a recommendation, otherwise we never would have thought of ordering it. The texture of the cod matched the aioli and the combination of flavors set off fireworks. In a trip full of extraordinary food, this stood up to the best of them. We also had pan con tomate (bread with tomatoes) since it is a Catalan staple, jamon, shrimp, anchovies, and squid "Roman style" which meant lightly breaded calamari. The anchovies and squid were the winners here, while the namesake flautas (thin sandwiches) were good, but not quite as great as the tapas. Throw in some exceptional service (the server complimented me on my terrible Spanish) and great yet cheap wine and you get an amazing start to my stay in Barcelona. Next time I am visiting, you can bet La Flauta will be part of the itinerary. read more

This place was incredible! Coming from the US I was a bit scared to go to a restaurant for dinner that was just known for their tapas-- I thought, I need an entree! FALSE. I couldn't be more wrong. Basically this place has an extensive menu with sooooo many tapa options, even some looked like entrees just in tapas portion. This completely changed my views on tapas and eating the Spaniard way. Went with a group of 4, we ordered at least 15 different tapas and it was still SO economical. Not to mention the quality of the food here was outstanding! Absolutely loved their gazpacho- a must have! Super fresh seafood seems to be the main theme here, although there are plenty of other items. The prawn and calamari bruschetta ranges from really good to insanely great depending on how it is cooked. I ordered it twice. The first order was really good, but the second order was seared so that the prawn had a caramelized crunch to it that put the dish over the top. It's around 5E for one, but the prawns are ridiculously big. The bread part of the plate is microscopic in comparison. I also ordered the garlic prawns (kind of spicy) and the sirloin bruschetta. Both were good, but nowhere near as good as the prawn bruschetta. Overall, food-wise everything was great. My only complaint would be service is a bit brusque, especially if you don't speak the native tongue. read more

I legit had foie gras 5 out of the 7 days I was in Spain and La Flauta had THE best ones and priced at less than 5 euros a piece! The foie gras itself was a decent size and it also came with a nice chunk of sirloin. Topped with a yummy compote and a slice of bread as the base, it was quite a delicious bite of food! Our group also shared a bunch of other tapas: Roman styled squid, mushrooms and asparagus (simple, yet cooked so perfectly), fried and grilled cuttlefish, garlic prawns, fried smallfishes, and the eggs with cured ham. My least favorite was the eggs with cured ham - it wasn't anything special and it came with these chips that reminded me of Pik Nik. My friends were huge fans of the smallfishes as they reminded them of childhood and being back home. We visited twice in one week, a rarity for me because I like to try different places, but La Flauta is so good we wanted to go for a third time! Nothing fancy, just executed well and delicious! - Camembert fried brochette: 5 stars. Its cheese, coated in peanuts, drizzled with jam. - Camembert brochette salad: 5 stars. Sam goodness as above, on top of greens - Mushroom and asparagus: 5 stars. Wow, those mushrooms were tasty and perfectly marinated....and I don't really love mushrooms. - Aubergine chips with honey: 5 stars. We should put honey on all our vegetables! - Crema Catalana (dessert): 5 stars. A cross between crème brulee and flan, but better than either. Sure, service was not the friendliest, but a little prep goes along way....plan for ordering in Spanish and bring along a tapas guide and you'll be fine. Pro Tip #1: look at both menus (English and Spanish). There were different items on the Spanish menu. Pro Tip #2: get there when they first open and grab a seat at the tapas bar. We do a lot of research on restaurants when we travel and are loving that Yelp is making its way around Europe, to guide us to more local restaurants. We hate landing in tourist traps so we were so happy that a friend who lives in Barcelona told us about La Flauta and Yelp confirmed her recommendation. We tried to book a table but they only reserve tables for larger groups. we ere told that if we get there between 8-830, we would have no problem. We arrived around 830 and got one of the last tables. We loved everything we ordered including the sangria blanca. I don't think you can go wrong. We asked our waiter for some recommendations and everything he suggested was excellent. The beef with pimientos on top were to die for as was the egg and shredded potato dish. We loved the asparagus and mushrooms and the croquettes and the Jamon was yummy--especially paired with the egg/potato dish. The atmosphere is bustling and fun and the service is fast. Eixample is full of great places to eat. But you have to find the best if you want to take back with you the sweetest gastromemories Barcelona has to offer. This time, La Flauta totally did it for me. We were OK with sitting by the bar, so we got seated in 10 minutes. Of course, the line was 20 people strong so we just went for what we got. The next hour was just pure gastrobliss. High quality ingredients and exceptional cooking will distinguish this place from just about anything similar you might find in London, so be prepared to come back to bad-tapas-land. I went through it, and I am warning you well in advance. From the essential Catalan kitchen come fresh cod with olive oil and crushed tomatoes. Doesn't get better. The seafood platter (there's nothing like that, you just create one) will amaze you. Again - quality, quality, quality (of ingredients)!! Porc with 3 cheese. We received 5 star service with the guy at the bar/kitchen where we were seated, explaining the Catalan menu and the food in great detail. Very friendly, very interested and educated staff. Kudos! This was recommended by local as a really good spot for Spanish food and it was definitely popular and filled with lots of people, tourists and locals alike. The service was decent and the food was pretty good. I'm not a huge fan of Spanish cuisine, but if you are, this is probably a good spot to visit since it has everything tapas style and everything tasted similar to other Spanish dishes I've had in the past. For the unbeatable classic Catalan meal, do yourself a favor and stop here. Right near the University of Barcelona, this remarkable little restaurant is well worth your time and money. I stepped up to this little place for the first time on Valentines Day after many friends had recommended it to me, and for the rest of my six months stay in Barcelona I frequented it more times than I can count. The restaurant has outside, downstairs, and upstairs seating. It was almost always packed with a wait, so come prepared to eat either at a non traditional Spanish time or expect to wait. The staff is hilarious, and really friendly for the most part. I tried at least fifteen different things on the menu, and not one thing was disappointing. It's delicious, beautifully presented, well made typical Catalan food. My suggestion is to come with a group, or if your with just one, order lots of tapas to share. They are good size and not badly priced. Some of my favorites and must haves: Sangria Cava. Their regular Sangria is also delicious, but this was my favorite Cava version I had tried. Bocadilla de francesa (baguette with warm scrambled eggs and cheese mmmm) and the bacon, cheese, and dates bocodilla are both my favorites, and only 4 euros. Best bocadillos in Barcelona that I found. The goat cheese and vegetable tapa was a favorite of mine, and their jamon with bread and oil is one of my favorites in the city. If you have any aversion or doubts about the Spanish ham, this place will silence them all. Delicious. After having already spent several days eating lots and lots of tapas, we were relieved to see the menu had additional options like steaks, sandwiches, and salads. Don't get me wrong, we loved the tapas, but after a while we just wanted something different. I killed my entire plate, which was a very generous serving of steak, fries, and roasted tomatoes. My favorite dish there is actually called "angry egg", you really should try it If you don't mind running egg yolk. Since it is a popular spot, it is a bit of a wait (30 minutes). I would not say that it is worth the wait because Barcelona has so many tapas places that are equally good and interesting, but less crowded. I did not give it 5 stars because I do not like the ambience inside. Comes out warm and has a little caramelization on top. Both desserts were nice top offs to our dinner.
