The tapas here are amazing! My favorite was the.... actually all the ones I had were delicious! The veggie one, the shrimp one, and the cheese one were all nom! We arrived in Barcelona at 9 pm which meant it took at least an hour to get from the hotel from the airport. We came here around 10:30 pm and there was still a lot of people dining La Flauta is tapas style dining, so we ordered a couple of dishes to share between our party of three. The waiter was super friendly and eventually convinced us to grab some dessert as well. We ordered four dishes to share and two desserts after finishing our meal. This was the perfect amount of food for us and we were really impressed by the meal. We ordered the calamari, Flauta-Pizza, fresh pasta of the day and barbecue grilled rib steak. The calamari was a delicious appetizer and the Flauta-Pizza was essentially three sandwiches with four cheese, tomato, and oregano. The fresh pasta of the day was carbonara pasta and it was pretty good and a nice change from Spanish food! The rib steak was also tender and full of flavor. Now, we didn't have the most Spanish cuisine dinner here, but there was a reason for that! We were a bit scarred of Spanish food due to an experience earlier in our trip that caused us all to get food poisoning. However, it was a great dinner and definitely restored our faith in Barcelona food. I'm ready to eat Spanish cuisine again now! If you want a great seafood tapas experience i'd come here. We got lucky and came right before the rush and was seated quickly. Service was quick and friendly. When you walk in you pass all of the delicious seafood you can pick from and don't miss the razor clams, the fried cuttlefish (similar to calamari), we got the braised beef, and some croquettes. I must compliment the staff. The host smiled broadly and waved us in when we had just entered the door. Our two waitresses were seasoned professionals who seemed to know what we wanted before we asked for it. The food was not great. It was underwhelming with little flavor. I ordered a flauta from the hot column, but it was cold and bland with gummy, hardened cheese. I'm guessing they might have the food prepared in advance and sitting on the shelf to quickly take out to the many customers they move through. We had arrived in Barcelona, having not slept much on an overnight flight. We spent the day exploring the area near our hotel. We love tapas meals, where you get to try lots of different things on the menu. After checking Yelp reviews and consulting with our hotel for a recommendation, we decided on a short walk to La Flauta. Most Spaniards eat dinner late, but we were tired from our travels, so opted to eat around 7:30. We only had to wait a couple of minutes for a table. The host, noticing our English (American) speech, brought us menus written in English. We chose a number of dishes...each better than the last. We loved every bite of all we chose. A perfect ending to our first day on vacation. The following night we went to another Yelp 5 star restaurant at about 8:30...closer to dinner time for the locals. We sat down, concerned that we were the only customers in the place. We'll, we looked at the menu, looked at each other, got up, making our apologies and went straight back to La Flauta. We knew there'd be a wait, but decided it was worth it. The line for a table was practically out the door, but only waited 15-20 minutes for a table, upstairs this time. We ordered our favorites from the night before and a few new tapas items. Once again, dinner was scrumptious! Though we like to try new places and foods, and we only had two days in Barcelona, we feel we absolutely made the right decision. The food was delicious, the restaurant...perfect. Food Drinks - Estrella, local beer. Dinner - My wife was ordering tapas left and right. Patatas Bravas and the Catalan Tomato Bread where both on our radar before coming to Barcelona. We found both on the menu. The Patatas Bravas were very plain, kind like nugget French fries. The bravas came with a couple dipping sauces. A young lady walked the area with a whole suckling pig that was just finished being cooked, so we had to try that. Oh yeah that was the start of the night for me. Bustling Spanish Bistro After settling into my AirBnB in the l'Eixample district in Barcelona, my hosts suggested this spot for dinner just around the corner. The place was already buzzing when I walked in and the display case in the entrance is a feast for the eyes. When leaving, there was a healthy line extending out the door, but I must have arrived just early enough to beat the dinner crowd and was seated right away. Came late Sept 2017 with a group of 7 adults and two babies and enjoyed one of the better meals of our trip to Barcelona. There are two locations and this one has two floors, and easily seats probably 150-200 people. Since they don't take reservations we arrived at 7:30 and the restaurant was about 50% full, mostly downstairs. By 8PM it was packed and all the tables were filled upstairs too. The service shined here. Initially when we arrived and checked with the staff for high chairs one of the chefs upstairs (since it wasn't peak dinner yet), came out to greet us, and even provided some picture books (their dessert menus are listed in children's books) to keep the babies amused. They were friendly and inviting and we were impressed they took time to greet us. We ordered about a dozen+ items and then a few extras of the dishes we enjoyed. The ones that stood out being the garlic butter shrimp, the soprassada and duck breast sandwiches, fried small fishes, and clams (they were sweet!). Thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. For all tourists browsing for your next authentic Spanish cerveseria experience, look no further: La Flauta is the place to go. Just trust me on this one. My husband and I stumbled upon this restaurant after hours of walking, hungry, around 5:30pm. No line at all, at first we were doubting if we had chosen a good place! Doubts were immediately removed the moment we started chomping down on our food. TIP: Don't be afraid to ask for the English menu! My husband can easily be mistaken to look like a local, so we were often handed the local menus throughout our trip. For some reason the ~fancy~ atmosphere of this restaurant made me embarrassed to even ask. Don't be :) We accidentally ordered some very basic (but still yummy) boiled prawns as a result, definitely not something we had in mind.... but I wouldn't write home about it. Instead, most absolutely order the cabreaos with egg (crispy potatoes with a glorious tomato sauce and over easy eggs) and the cod with honey aoili. Wow, these two dishes have my mind doing cartwheels. Love it when restaurants are able to take super humble ingredients and make it incredibly mind-blowing. I love how diverse the staff is and how friendly and attentive they are to each of their guests. All my mom and I did was ask for recommendations and Victor always had something for us and let me tell you, NONE of them disappointed. The second time around, my mom and I had the cod covered in gratin mayo with garlic aioli and honey drizzled. Tell me that didn't make your mouth water and stomach cry out? We had one each. We had the foie gras on bread, duck breast on bread, beef filet, assorted tapas, beef on bread, wild mushrooms, and barbecue rib meat. Every single item we had was fantastic. The quality has gone down since my last visit. I have been to the restaurant several times over the years. I was there this past Wednesday with a colleague and we were treated horribly by our waiter. The service was horrible. He was rude and gave the impression that he couldn't be bothered waiting on us. That was made apparent because we witnessed the lovely way he treated everyone else at the surrounding tables. But check out my picture, that little orange sauce, the best sauce with patatas bravas I have had anywhere. Almost like a tomato bisque soup but thicker and a great pairing to the potatoes. Croissant Bacon Cheese - One of the best bites of the whole trip. Sweetness from the date, sweet and savory from the bacon, nice and salty cheese all in a butter croissant. They are small so get a lot. For the most part the menu is delicious and you should be fine going with anything, but those two, you better get it. Churros and Chocolate - So good, I loved it but it wasn't my favorite dessert which is saying a lot. Churro well cooked almost doughy in the middle but just really soft and tender. Chocolate not too sweet, but not bitter. Creme Brule - Yep, get it. See ya. I don't know what else you want me to say. It is a light and goes perfectly with the end of the meal. THE VERDICT: Possibly my favorite place in all of Spain... but also maybe not, there was so much good food. The wine is cheap and they love it if you speak spanish... which I perchance do. Inexpensive meal for all of the people that we had. You don't need a reservation and it is just a special experience. You'll get your entire daily recommended amount of sodium intake from one dinner here. La Flauta is the kind of hip restaurant that the locals could be seen at while it doubles as very touristic. I don't know if they think us tourists need to be bludgeoned by salt in order to taste something but each dish was salty turned to 11. Hotels, review websites, they'll all recommend this restaurant. It is the quintessential Spanish tapas restaurant. Sexy ambiance and sexy sounding food including foie gras and the like. But, if you look closely the craft is sorely lacking here. Flavors will take your taste buds on a rollercoaster but not a fun one. This is the more like the old wooden rickety one where you neck and back are sore afterwards from the whiplash. Some things stood out and once again I'll mention the foie gras on biscuits was good. Our pasta dish looked like someone splattered meat sauce on some re-heated noodles. The desserts looked like someone just gave up halfway through and what was supposed to be bread pudding and a creme brulee looked just sad. It's hard to get a seat here since it's first come first serve and we had four in our party. So I appreciate them giving us a second floor table in the corner. However, one thing that really stuck in my craw was they double charged for dishes. Their original menu is in Spanish and they didn't replace it for English until we grabbed an English menu we saw on another table. Not sure if that's to try to lead you astray but it felt that way after they double charged several dishes. The more you travel, the better you get at catching BS and even in countries notorious for swindling tourists, we just expected more from such a highly rated restaurant.
