We ate breakfast basically every morning at the hotel and we enjoyed everything from the pancakes, granola, oat, avocado toast, teas, and coffees. For lunch and dinner we ate at Mezzanine, casa Maria, and also went outside of the national park down by the hotel zone. The massage was great, we booked ahead of time for the couples massage and really liked it. Overall, we had an amazing experience at Mi Amor, we felt safe and enjoyed our time there.

We stayed well past dark. The architecture alone is worth the trip.. there is this wild underground-but-above-ground tunnel situation you really just have to see for yourself. I didn't make it to the restaurant (Kin Toh) this time, but it is at the top of my list for the next trip. Tip: get there early for the best seats.

When I got to the entrance, the woman working there (Joanna) was unbelievably rude. I explained that we already had reservations and just needed five minutes to see where to set up the surprise. She flat-out refused and said I'd have to pay 8,000 pesos just to look. I asked for a manager, but she said the manager agreed I couldn't go up. She said the place is like the pictures online and I could decide from that. After 30 minutes of back-and-forth, she finally let me in -- and I was in and out in under 3 minutes. Thankfully, Juno upstairs was wonderful and actually helpful (the only positive part of this whole story). Fast-forward to the night of the proposal: Joanna, who knew it was supposed to be a surprise, asked in front of everyone, "Is this for the engagement party?" -- completely ruining it. Her apology didn't even sound genuine. The service after that was awful. We asked for the ahumador contra mosquitos they use at the tables, and no one brought it until we asked again and they brought it as we were closing out. The wait staff basically disappeared once they realized we weren't ordering food. We still met the minimum spend and even bought bottles, but it was the worst "special occasion" experience I've ever had. The place is gorgeous in photos -- but don't let that fool you. Between rude staff, bad energy, and zero hospitality, it's just not worth it.

Today, we are back for DAY TWO! Carlos is our server again. This place is a hidden jewel in Tulum. We are planning on spending a few days in this beautiful place next time we are in Tulum.

Everyday they would go do housekeeping, but also turndown the beds at night. A special treat was left every night (mini croissants, macaroons, etc). Our transportation from the hotel to the airport left at 7am, before breakfast was available. Becky organized for sandwiches to be made for us to take and eat on our way to the airport. This was above and beyond for me. I also appreciated the calm and quietness of the hotel.

Everything felt calm, spacious, and unhurried. We booked the Sea View Ground Floor Suite with Plunge Pool and it was gorgeous. The room had a king bed, two twin pullouts, a small dining table, and a bright, spa-like bathroom with 2 rain showers, dual sinks, and a separate toilet room. The private deck and plunge pool faced the ocean and beach with an unobstructed sunrise view. If we wanted it heated like a hot tub, we'd message the concierge on WhatsApp and they'd turn it on almost instantly. Service was thoughtful and seamless. Check-in was easy, communication was clear, and every night we received pastries and a thermos of tea in different flavors like lemongrass and hibiscus as a surprise treat. On arrival, the adults were welcomed with margaritas and our kids with pineapple juice. Housekeeping was meticulous, right down to straightening our shoes. Beach towels and cover ups were in the room and beachside food and drink service made it easy to spend all day by the ocean. The hotel is small (about 49 rooms) so the beach never felt crowded and there was always space to relax without competing for loungers. We were traveling with family (both of my brothers and their families), and the staff made a real effort to place rooms near each other, which made the experience even more special. Luxurious, relaxed, and genuinely welcoming. NOTES/TIPS: **Book early if you want a specific room type. We booked about four months out and availability was already limited. **They're strict about room occupancy limits. The staff is seriously committed to adding value to your stay. Everyone is so friendly and anxious to be your "Dream Merchant". They live for "Special Requests". My phone charging cord malfunctioned and the front desk charged it for me every night. My wife had some cocktails on an empty stomach and a pretty good buzz on and was dizzy. She had trouble eating her dinner and as she sobered up back at El Pez. She was starving and craving a fantastic Churros desert they make. The Kitchen was closed, my wife was totally bummmed. Within minutes Will, the manager, opened up kitchen and presented my wife with best dessert she ever had on the veranda of our Bedroom. Finally, on the first morning of breakfast, I had ordered : Eggs Benedict and requested VERY CRISPY English Muffin/Toast. When it arrived it had soggy/soft bread. They of course went and shortly presented me with crispy bread. 4 days later, I ordered same Eggs Benedict, the manager Will asked me if the waiter had gotten my toast the way I liked it. I had no idea that he even knew about my toast not being crispy that first day, or that he would cared. Well he did, and I wondered how the heck he would/could remember that. He did! These folks pay attention to the details and made us feel special, welcome and happy. This Tulum area is hot and happening. The night life is crazy wild. A bit much for us. There is just tons of Beach Clubs and hotels right next to each other and the energy is over the top. The location, beauty and serenity is second to none. No Hotels to the South and only one to the North that is a couple of 100 yards away and the beach main area is around the protective cove at El Pez. By far the least congested beach hotel in the area. A fantastic private villa that has a great dining area just steps from the water. ALL the food was fantastic and the rooms and vistas are first class, The secluded pool is a gem that some folks don't even know about. Private, comfortable with views of the Ocean. Tea delivered at night and a pot of coffee at your door in the morning .Always a smile from the staff. Concierge services can book you wonderful tours of the Ruins, the fresh water caves, transportation, and diving/snorkeling, of road vehicles, and bikes. Can't say enough about our stay here over Christmas with friends and family. First off, Service -…read morethis was actually one of the more affordable beach zone hotels, but compared to the other Colibri hotels we visited, the service here was better and exemplary. In particular, the front desk person Gilberto was such a star, functioning like a personal concierge during our entire stay. He catered to our every need, going above and beyond, even walking out to the street to talk to taxis for us. As a small business owner, I know good employees, and Gilberto is an MVP, but the entire staff was terrific and reflected the same attention to hospitality and detail that rivals what we experienced in fine hotels in Thailand. The hotel property is quaint, with all units facing the beach. This hotel is on a secluded stretch of the hotel zone, so you do have to walk about 10-15 minutes to get to other hotels, shopping, and restaurant, if you don't want to pay for the pricey taxi's in the area. Of course, there are pluses and minuses with this, but we were ok with it, and enjoyed the quiet non-party atmosphere. The beachfront is a little inlet bay and there is a beautiful sand beach, but there are alot of rocks in the water, so it doesn't make for good swimming, but if you walk down the beach to the right about 5 minutes you get to a really nice swimming beach that stretches for miles and was as good or better than Playa Paraiso. Also on one side of the inlet is a mound of volcanic rock that was popular for viewing sunrises and sunsets. Food here was really good. We ate included breakfast every morning, and had a lunch and dinner here. You can ask them to prepare even off menu items, like whole fried fish at the best price I could find anywhere in Tulum. Octopus was a standout too. Cocktails were average for Tulum's high cocktail standards. There were nice touches like fresh coffee brought to your room every single morning, and tea and chocolates waiting in your room every morning. Total surprise was a gift addressed to every member of our party under the lobby tree on Christmas morning. The gifts weren't of the dollar store variety either. They were quite nice arts and crafts. Never had a hotel do this for us in our lives. If you're looking for a quiet hotel for the family with impeccable service, El Pez is for you.
