Can't say enough about our stay here over Christmas with friends and family. First off, Service - this was actually one of the more affordable beach zone hotels, but compared to the other Colibri hotels we visited, the service here was better and exemplary. In particular, the front desk person Gilberto was such a star, functioning like a personal concierge during our entire stay. He catered to our every need, going above and beyond, even walking out to the street to talk to taxis for us. As a small business owner, I know good employees, and Gilberto is an MVP, but the entire staff was terrific and reflected the same attention to hospitality and detail that rivals what we experienced in fine hotels in Thailand. The hotel property is quaint, with all units facing the beach. This hotel is on a secluded stretch of the hotel zone, so you do have to walk about 10-15 minutes to get to other hotels, shopping, and restaurant, if you don't want to pay for the pricey taxi's in the area. Of course, there are pluses and minuses with this, but we were ok with it, and enjoyed the quiet non-party atmosphere. The beachfront is a little inlet bay and there is a beautiful sand beach, but there are alot of rocks in the water, so it doesn't make for good swimming, but if you walk down the beach to the right about 5 minutes you get to a really nice swimming beach that stretches for miles and was as good or better than Playa Paraiso. Also on one side of the inlet is a mound of volcanic rock that was popular for viewing sunrises and sunsets. Food here was really good. We ate included breakfast every morning, and had a lunch and dinner here. You can ask them to prepare even off menu items, like whole fried fish at the best price I could find anywhere in Tulum. Octopus was a standout too. Cocktails were average for Tulum's high cocktail standards. There were nice touches like fresh coffee brought to your room every single morning, and tea and chocolates waiting in your room every morning. Total surprise was a gift addressed to every member of our party under the lobby tree on Christmas morning. The gifts weren't of the dollar store variety either. They were quite nice arts and crafts. Never had a hotel do this for us in our lives. If you're looking for a quiet hotel for the family with impeccable service, El Pez is for you. read more

Have nothing but good things to say about this place! Beautiful hotel! Room is right on sand overlooking the water! There's a hammock in place to see the ocean. Breakfast was included to us- fresh juice, coffee and a main meal which was good! Staff is incredibly kind and welcoming. Small touches like hot tea brought to your room at night and they set up an essential oil diffuser, complementary cocktail when you arrive and coffee on the front porch in the morning. My wife and I are travel freaks and have been almost around the world. El Pez was right at the top. The service was simply outstanding, Four Seasons level. The staff is seriously committed to adding value to your stay. Everyone is so friendly and anxious to be your "Dream Merchant". They live for "Special Requests". My phone charging cord malfunctioned and the front desk charged it for me every night. My wife had some cocktails on an empty stomach and a pretty good buzz on and was dizzy. She had trouble eating her dinner and as she sobered up back at El Pez. She was starving and craving a fantastic Churros desert they make. The Kitchen was closed, my wife was totally bummmed. Within minutes Will, the manager, opened up kitchen and presented my wife with best dessert she ever had on the veranda of our Bedroom. Finally, on the first morning of breakfast, I had ordered : Eggs Benedict and requested VERY CRISPY English Muffin/Toast. When it arrived it had soggy/soft bread. They of course went and shortly presented me with crispy bread. 4 days later, I ordered same Eggs Benedict, the manager Will asked me if the waiter had gotten my toast the way I liked it. I had no idea that he even knew about my toast not being crispy that first day, or that he would cared. Well he did, and I wondered how the heck he would/could remember that. He did! These folks pay attention to the details and made us feel special, welcome and happy. This Tulum area is hot and happening. The night life is crazy wild. A bit much for us. There is just tons of Beach Clubs and hotels right next to each other and the energy is over the top. The location, beauty and serenity is second to none. No Hotels to the South and only one to the North that is a couple of 100 yards away and the beach main area is around the protective cove at El Pez. By far the least congested beach hotel in the area. A fantastic private villa that has a great dining area just steps from the water. ALL the food was fantastic and the rooms and vistas are first class, The secluded pool is a gem that some folks don't even know about. Private, comfortable with views of the Ocean. Tea delivered at night and a pot of coffee at your door in the morning .Always a smile from the staff. Concierge services can book you wonderful tours of the Ruins, the fresh water caves, transportation, and diving/snorkeling, of road vehicles, and bikes. There are a lot of resorts and hotels to choose from during your time in Tulum. My gf and I visited a lot for beach clubs, food and drinks. There are some stunning hotels, but of course this comes at a price and it can be a little too flash. El Pez is the perfect place! Its situated on its own part of the beach, less crowded, great rooms, amazing service (with people that will go above and beyond), all the amenities you need (pool, bikes to rent for cheap), tours and a fantastic free breakfast. I cannot say a bad word about our experience at El Pez. Room: When we originally booked, there was an issue with the booking online during a storm so we were downgraded a room. I messaged them a week before and they had upgraded us after the mishap. Great start! Our room was facing the ocean with a balcony. We sat out on the balcony every morning at night with a coffee or tequila. Our bedroom was large enough and the bathroom was also lovely and plentiful for the two of us. The room doesnt come with thick covers to make sure to not turn the AC down too low. The room was cleaned everyday and as we walked in after a long day It would be great to come home too. Food/Drinks: Breakfast included is awesome! Good food options for healthy or sweet and a cappuccino or iced coffee along with it. The drinks are also well priced and delicious. I recommend the spicy marg. We also had the ceviche here which was light and fresh and again priced like most other places on the strip. Service: I cannot say enough about the people that worked at this hotel. Friendly every morning, helpful and couldnt go any further for their guests. Arturo and Gilbert were especially nice to us. They booked us tours, reservations at top dinner spots and greeted us with a smile everyday. Thank you for making our trip so amazing! Overall, this place is brilliant! AMAZING!! Wow what an amazing experience at El Pez Hotel. Everything from the location to the amazing and caring staff El Pez is something you have to experience at least once. From the minute we checked in until the day we left we were treated amazingly. The rooms are beautiful with beach front access you wake up to the sounds of waves and go to sleep to the sound of beautiful waves. Breakfast is delicious and it is amazing to wake up to hot tea every morning. A big thank you to the hotel's supervisor Gener he is the definition of outstanding hospitality. Lucia, Jesus, & Edzon are amazing servers at the El Pez restaurant which is located upon entering the lobby. We could not have had a more enjoyable time in Tulum than we did staying at El Pez Hotel. From the five-star service and concierge to the fantastic breakfast, which was included in our stay, to the delicious cocktails, lunch and dinner, El Pez was the perfect choice for us to spend our post-wedding mini-moon. All of the concierge staff went out of their way to make our stay as comfortable and pleasant as possible, but the head of concierge, Abdel, was especially professional and helpful. He gave us great tips on everything from the cenotes we should visit to the best restaurants around for whatever atmosphere we were looking for that night to delicious and romantic cocktail spots to local favorites that we especially enjoyed checking out and experiencing, and would have otherwise not known about. In addition to the top-notch service and dining experience, the design of the hotel itself is the perfect combination of boho Tulum chic and rustic beach vibes with scenic views of the ocean everywhere you look and plenty of outdoor space and porches off of every room to enjoy in addition to a beach. The amenities are all very modern and the hotel is environmentally-friendly, which is a nice added benefit. While I know in previous reviews some people have complained about the smell of the seaweed this has nothing to do with the hotel and you will find that this is the case anywhere you stay if the seaweed tide is bad. In fact, El Pez goes out of their way if there is a red tide to immediately clean the seaweed off of the hotel beach that morning to minimize the seaweed effect, which not all beach front hotels will do. From a location standpoint, if you're looking for easy access to everything you really can't get better than El Pez. Located smack in the middle of "the party side" of Tulum and the "quiet romantic side" of Tulum, El Pez is just a walk, bike or short can ride away from both options. The hotel itself however is very quiet, romantic and private without any noise aside from the sounds of waves crashing against the rocks. El Pez is also located very close to the main town of Tulum, the many cenotes and the lagoons. In addition to walking, biking and taking a taxi, you can rent a car extremely easily through the concierge for a day or multiple days if desired. The hotel works with Hertz directly, making it extremely easy for the guests, and the Hertz representatives are very professional. We did this for a day during our stay to be able to drive to multiple cenotes and a lagoon. We could not have been happier with how easy it was to do and how nice the car was that we received. Last but not least, El Pez is part of the Colibri Hotel group, so expect to receive one free drink per person to each of their surrounding properties upon arrival, which include La Zebra, Mi Amor and Mezzanine, all of which I would recommend visiting for a cocktail or two. Overall, we had a terrific hotel stay El Pez at in Tulum. My husband and I could not have better things to say about it. We will definitely be back! read more

We had the most wonderful stay at El Pez! What a hidden gem...We were worried that the pictures made it look nicer than real life, but it actually WAS that cute and nice! Perfect little boutique hotel. The rooms were beautiful, very private, no worries about other rooms seeing into your space. Great oceanfront view totally unobstructed!! We stayed at a couple other places in tulum in the busier areas and you get so much more at El Pez for the money...free coffee to your room door every morning and free tea and chocolates every night! So cute. Compared to other hotels the free breakfast was waaaaaay better. So fresh and big portions. Very cool selection of items and delicious coffee. The location is prime for being close enough to the main restaurant area but not too far down the strip. You do NOT want to bother trying to stay in the middle of the busy areas. Driving or taking a taxi there is a nightmare. Sitting in traffic for an hour every afternoon trying to get back to the hotel was not fun. If you plan on doing cenotes or any activities you want to be closer to tulum city center or within biking distance of that area. Tour drivers might pick you up but that means you still have to sit in traffic. Don't waste your time. You can rent a bike at the hotel too which is nice and only $5 per person per day. The beach was great, super private and not over crowded like other parts of the strip. And the concierge team went above and beyond helping us arrange dinner reservations, activities and anything you could think of. Arturo and Gilbert were so thoughtful and even after we checked out they still messaged us helpful tips on things we had asked about. We stayed at El Pez for our honeymoon and it was lovely! The staff was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable and pleasant! They helped my husband pull off a wonderful surprise of flowers and champagne in our room for the night we arrived. IT WAS PERFECT! The food in the hotel is amazing and it is a great amenity to have breakfast covered each morning, coffee sent to the room that is ready and waiting for you when you wake up and tea and chocolates in the afternoon that is waiting for when you get back home. My only complaint is that only one of the electrical outlets in the room worked properly, the rest were all too loose and when you plugged something in, it just fell right out. So we struggled to charge our devices. Other than that, it was great! read more

THE BEST EVER! You know when your yoga instructor (or therapist :/ ) instructs you to envision a peaceful, "safe place"? El Pez is that place. From the breezy, shabby chic lobby and beach front, open air lounge to the unobstructed in room ocean view, the aesthetic here is to die for. The resort and beach feel very private - a retreat from the overcrowded public beaches and resorts. The staff were amazing, going so far above and beyond the call of duty! The gentleman who works the front desk actually took us to see 200 newly hatched sea turtles released along the shore as part of a conservation effort after I'd expressed interest in wildlife earlier that day. This place is great for animals lovers who miss their companions back home! Look out for Eyka, the friendly lab mix who can often be found lounging on the beach or under a tree by the lobby-lounge. If you want to feed her do so waaay off to the side of the private beach, away from the resort. We don't want to get her use to begging from guest, some of whom may be scared of dogs. The toiletries supplied here are better than usual. Great scents and organic. Including a free, organic bug spray which we used when we went to an open air restaurant down the street and took home with us when we left. Downsides: The pool doesn't have a good location. It isn't beach side. It's off in the middle of the property, enclosed by a wall/fence/gate/whatever-it-was. The AC in our room (beach house 3) also wasn't as powerful as I'd like considering the heat, but it didn't inhibit my sleep. read more

Absolutely loved this place! They accommodated us last minute after a terrible experience down the street at another hotel called papaya playa project. El Pez was exceptional with service. The staff is so friendly (especially Dennisse at the front desk)! All the staff treated us amazing. They are the cutest hotel ever and we will be back to stay again with them 100%! It's only been one day I've been here but so far everything is outstanding! The staff all introduce themselves and are very friendly. We were given welcome cocktails which were delicious. The hotel is more beautiful in person than the photos. We were surprised with flowers and sparkling wine for our honeymoon. Dinner here is a little on the pricey side as Mexico goes but everything we had was delicious. Best ceviche I've had!! I had the snapper special which was really yummy. Even the salsas have interesting rich flavors. Dessert, a spiced custard and homemade ice cream, was also delicious. read more

Eduardo and Marco are the best! My wife and I stayed here on our honeymoon and had a wonderful, carefree time. The drinks are lovely and the views are outstanding. While the beaches aren't as enjoyable as some of the neighboring resorts, you have but a couple minute stroll down the beach to find clear swimming. The staff is friendly and accommodating, and the cabanas are magnificent. Short commute into the city of tulum, and a small trek to any of the other restaurants (and happy hours!). Lovely hotel with wonderful staff. Everyone was helpful and accommodating. Lina was a great source for ideas for both food and activities. Alberto was very welcoming when we arrived late the first night and were completely knackered. Even Edwin was waiting at the restaurant with bug spray our first night, somehow knowing we weren't thinking of it. Unfortunately I was bit alive the whole trip, regardless of what I used, but that wasn't anyone's fault. The one thing I found that seemed to work pretty well was from the local coop that has loads of products made from honey. Check them out, it's fabulous. The one thing was the food. It was ok, but not fabulous for what they charge for dinner. The chips were great though! The toast in the morning could have been, well, a bit toastier ;) But again the service was superior to all. The views from the restaurant as well as the rooms were breathtaking. Each evening it was relaxing to watch the sun set, and the local fishermen come to the cove to fish. We were fortunate to even see a baby turtle that was going to the sea for the first time. A truly wonderful place and I can't compliment the staff enough. El Pez was the best. The room was perfect and the morning and nighttime tea delivered to your door was a really nice touch. There weren't any issues with bugs or AC (in fact, we often turned the AC off because we were cold.) The breakfast was delicious. Highly recommend getting the pancakes and French toast (I had each of these 3 times and was still craving them when I got home.) Everyone that works there is so incredibly nice and accommodating. We ended up having to book an extra night due to our flight getting canceled, and not only was it not a problem at all, we were given a lower rate, as they could see we were slightly stressed about the change in plans. It's also at a prime location, located halfway between many of the cenotes/ruins and town/restaurants. Highly recommend! read more

Absolutely one of the best hotels I have been to, hands down. Rooms are clean, and well maintained, and GORGEOUS views. They provide bottled water for drinking/teethbrushing, and since you cannot flush TP (recycled water system) they empty trash frequently as well. There are split AC units in the rooms for warmer nights, but I stayed in the beach house with tons of windows, very good airflow. Beach house is lovely as well - each room has its own patio with hammock, and they bring coffee/juice/tea to your door each morning (but deposit it, they don't wake you! bonus points!). It is possible to rent a block of rooms of the beach house rather than the whole thing. Can't rave enough about the staff - Lena was wonderful and gave many tips of things to do, restaurants to try, etc. We followed many of her suggestions and were not disappointed. The restaurant staff is great, very friendly, had wonderful conversations with them and even learned some Maya. Only ever ate breakfast here, but it was wonderful. Fresh pressed juices always make me happy. Spend an evening on the cocktail terrace - very relaxing, wonderful mixed drinks, and they can craft just about anything you could order. There are palapas and lounge chairs down on the beach but to me, the beach is more for looking than swimming, it is on a cove so a fair amt of seaweed gets tossed up in there. But, there are a million and one swimming spots in Tulum so, this should definitely not be a deal breaker. There are a few parking spaces off the main street should you be a local or have a rental car. Clean, friendly, and worth every penny!! Do yourself a favor and stay here next time you are in Tulum. read more

El Pez is lucky to have such a great person on their staff. The hotel is very clean and was just the time away we were looking for. Had a great experience at El Pez Hotel. The rooms were literally located right on the beach and just steps away from the water. The rooms are designed so that you can open them up and get a nice view of the beach along with some wonderful breeze. The staff was just so amazing and friendly. The property is within walking distance of several restaurants and bars and also the restaurant within the property was delicious as well as we had brunch there on Sunday which was fantastic. El Pez is an exquisite boutique hotel in a perfect location in Tulum. We stayed at the hotel for 7 days over Christmas 2015 and could not have found a better place to relax and discover Mexico for the first time. Our rooms opened right onto the sheltered cove beach with breathtaking views, the staff could not have been nicer or more accommodating and the management went above and beyond to satisfy our every need. Lina, one of the managers, was particularly gracious, friendly and always responsive to our every need. Beyond the peacefulness, the exquisiteness views, delicious breakfasts and dinners, we also loved the way management and staff seemed like a large family. This translates into a very comfortable environment for guests. We loved our stay and were sad to leave. I recommend El Pez highly but selfishly hope it remains a hidden gem! read more
