I enjoyed the ambiance and the service. The server was attentive and gave me suggestions. The ambiance and lighting were nice. It felt intimate without being super dark which is nice. Unfortunately for me the food was lack luster. The meatballs were good, really wished it would've come with at least 1 piece of bread. The Cesar salad was good, but needed more dressing. When you had the croutons I really could taste the dressing and it was really well made so it's a shame the flavor didn't a translate the rest of the salad. Lastly, I ordered the cacio e Pepe and my husband ordered the lamb bolognese. I had a bite of his and it was flavorful, although it lacked actual lamb. My pasta itself was yummy! However the sauce left me wanting more flavor-depth. It was a little bland for my taste profile. Overall, happy to have tried it, willing to go back since I live near there, but a little disappointed.

Brussels Sprouts

For those who are in the east side of the city and looking for a nice Italian spot where reservations aren't too much of a pain to get, La Collina is the only decent modern Italian spot in Eastern Market area. In a different pre-pandemic world, Acqua Al 2 would have been the no brainer, but La Collina pleasantly surprised us. I craved for a cacio e pepe and after scouring reviews online and not wanting to fight traffic across different parts of the city, La Collina delivered. We ordered a very traditional line: cesar salad, Brussels sprouts, meatballs, followed by cacio e pepe and wagyu lasagna. Everything was delicious but the star of the night was the wagyu lasagna. Service was impeccable as we were dining to celebrate my promotion and our soon-to-be-baby. I would have loved to have seen more non-alcoholic options at the time but again, the bartender fixed something up on the spot and it was refreshing. For those looking for something classy and casual, intimate and cozy, La Collina is it.

This is a 2.5 star review but I'm being nice to round up. La Collina was okay but with uneven food and service. They are pretty affordable so I'll cut them a little slack if slow service and so-so pasta are helping to keep prices low, but I wouldn't visit again. I had dinner with a group of four and we split four apps, four pastas, and some dessert. I sadly missed getting a photo of dessert or the dessert menus. Cheap cafes of house wine ($45) were a highlight; we got two, a solid lambrusco and a solid red. I wish more restaurants did this. Apps were okay. We had the broccolini ($9), burrata ($14, with seasonal apples), garlic bread ($7), and arancini ($12 for 3). The broccolini was a little watery and sweet from the red peppers, which you might or might not like. Burrata was standard. Garlic bread a bit lame, and felt necessary to order since the burrata didn't come with any toast. The arancini was a highlight, as good as any I've had. The pastas were so-so to bad. We all disliked the cacio e pepe ($18) which didn't have enough cheese or pepper; a real dud. Some liked the lamb bolognese ($23) but I found the sauce way too sweet. The wagyu lasagne ($32) had a novel presentation -- three rolled pieces -- but the meat inside seemed more like pulled pork or short rib to me; not worth the "wagyu" name or price. Shrimp diavolo ($22) was my favorite but didn't seem very spicy, I would not have called it diavolo. Dessert was so-so to good. We had bombolini (5 to an order), olive oil cake, and tiramisu semifreddo. Bombolini were not very flavorful and relied entirely on the caramel sauce they came with. Olive oil cake some found too crumbly and came with a lemon sauce some disliked. The tiramisu was very tasty but also very frozen; not semifreddo at all. We had some coffee, amari, and an espresso martini which were fine. Service was helpful but slow. There were some very nice touches, like explaining the seasonal sides that came with the burrata without being asked, and offering to add another arancini to the order (since the default is three, but we were a four top). Service was friendly. But there were long gaps to get served and an acknowledgement at the end that service was slow "because they only had two people working." I have a few problems with the menus. First, I felt like I was looking at a fall menu they forgot to update, not a late winter menu, due to burrata with "seasonal" apples, a mulled wine, a fig-maple cocktail, and a pumpkin cocktail. Second, they don't post their drink or dessert menus on their website. Third, they were out of three different drinks we ordered (mulled wine and two dessert wines); either fix your menu or fix your bar. This was Saturday night, prime time, Valentine's Day weekend; why are you not fully stocked? This further slowed down service because our waiter had to check with the bar, only to find out drinks we're available.

Lamb bolognese

My husband and I shared the broccolini and arancini. I liked my lamb bolognese - the texture of the pasta was great. Unfortunately, I think they were understaffed when we came because it took about 50 minutes for us to get our first appetizers... and I was on the verge of being hangry. We also ordered half carafe of the prosecco which was served in a wide, flat bottomed glass that got rid of all the bubbles! However, overall the ambiance was nice and the food was solid.

Tomato bucatini
Andrew K.

All I have to say is WOW. The tomato bucatini was deliciously cooked perfectly al dente and paired with a flavorful, savory sauce. We got a carafe of one of the cocktails and it was delicious. The dimly lit and minimalist environment lends itself to a classy and intimate setting. Our server was friendly and helpful. I also loved that when they bring the bill, they share that the 20% has already been added to the bill.

WOW finally got to go in person and such a better experience than when we got delivery... the made the branzino gluten free dairy free and it was divine !! Hot crispy skin and flaky tender fish with a gorgeous sprinkling of Fresno Chili's and parsley ! Gluten free dairy free lamb bolognese pasta that was flavorsome and perfectly cooked.. Gluten free dairy free broccolini salad to start. We were impressed that the salad was $9 and a nice portion. Pasta was $25 and fish $20. They add a 20% gratuity to help have a living wage pay but that means you also don't have to add anything. For $35 a person (our bill was $70), it was a really excellent and high end meal. We sat outside around beautiful flowers and lighting and the interior is super high end and well curated. Staff was awesome with asking chef about adjustments to food. This whole restaurant group is amazing (the duck and the peach as well) with food allergies sensitivity !! Honestly only dinging a star because our food came without us having any plates or cutlery which we had to ask for, then we didn't have napkins so had to ask for those as well... otherwise amazing !! We'll absolutely be back!

Alla vodka pasta

OVERALL: good pasta but leaves you wanting more in a bad way FOOD: I got the alla vodka pasta. It was good but I felt that something was missing. The flavor was missing an oomph factor. Can't comment on the service or venue/ambiance because I ordered online.

Cacio de Pepe
Maria L.

Great outdoor seating on such a lovely evening! We didn't have to wait for outdoor sitting on a Saturday night about 7pm, however for inside sitting, it was a 1.5 hour wait. We had nice service and tried the garlic bread, cacio de Pepe and shrimp diavolo. All were tasty. They add a 22% service charge to the bill and are very transparent about it so you don't double tip unless you want to.

Branzino

The most delicious and fresh food! Definitely recommend getting a bunch of apps: arancini, meatballs, and cauliflower. Pastas were fantastic!

Tiramisu with Tres leches foam

This restaurant is incredible. I had the lamb Ragu Bolognese, and it was excellent. The cheese on top is such a good addition. Also, the rosemary focaccia bread is 10 out of 10 can't go wrong. The restaurant is so cute. From the art on the walls to the decor even the coffee bar everything about it is really adorable. The weight stuff is really attentive. I've never had a problem. The food is always prompt and swift. However, they do not have ice with your water. You do have to ask for it, but that's not a dealbreaker. The desert is also a star of the show. The tiramisu is a really fun modern take on a classic dessert. However, the donuts were incredible. I highly recommend this place for a date night for taking people who are visiting the city, or for a corporate dinner. 10 out of 10.

Espresso martini
Lia M.

I love La Collina. My meal was delicious and the service was fantastic. It's in a great location and it offers patio seating. I started with the espresso martini, which was more on the biter side than some, but I like that. I appreciate that they use local Don Ciccio liqueurs. For food, I ordered the arancini, lamb rigatoni, and zeppoli. The arancini was crispy and delicious. The rigatoni was al dente, which I like. The dish was rich and flavorful. The creaminess of the ricotta nicely cut the richness of the pasta. Zeppoli was fresh, hot, and not overly sweet. I ordered the house-made limoncello to go with the zeppoli, and it was great. The rest of the menu looks good but I'm looking forward to returning and ordering the same dishes, because I loved them so much.

Lamb bolognese
Rodger S.

We went to dinner here last night. We weren't impressed. The restaurant is decorated in what I'd call a minimalist style. Very little fabric, straight-lined modern tables & chairs. It comes across as on the cold side, especially for an Italian restaurant. There are no signs of it being Italian & could just as easily be Bulgarian or Swedish or whatever. We started by sharing an order of burrata. It was served with sliced figs & was good. We then each had a pasta entree. One spaghetti & meatballs, the other lamb bolognese. The meatballs were tasty. The lamb was disappointing, not as flavorful as we've had at other places such as Lavagna. Our total bill was $120, including tax & the 22% that the restaurant added for its staff. We certainly don't mind paying that amount for dinner, but this one wasn't memorable.

A standard pour of their Lambrusco.

Whether…read morewe're catching up with friends who live around Capitol Hill or bringing the family, it always delivers. Between the handmade pasta, creative cocktails, beautiful waterfront views, and welcoming staff, it's become one of our regular OpenTable reservations. At this point, we've tried just about everything on the menu, from the bomboloni and fluffy Morini pancakes at brunch to many of the pastas at dinner. If it's your first visit, don't skip the gnudi--they're pillowy ricotta dumplings that are absolutely worth ordering. The pappardelle and cappelletti are also favorites, while the gnocchi and tagliatelle are always a hit with kids. The espresso martini is a great way to kick off a relaxing weekend, and what keeps us coming back isn't just the food. We've gotten to know the chefs, managers, and several servers over the years, and they consistently make us feel welcome. It's the kind of restaurant that remembers its regulars and creates an experience that's just as enjoyable as the meal itself. We're grateful to have Osteria Morini in our rotation and look forward to many more family brunches and dinners with friends.

For starters, I got the crostini and it was absolutely delicious. The pear or apple paired so well with the cheese. My friend got the beet salad, which was definitely not our favorite, but if you love beets, you'd probably really enjoy it. For my entree, I got the gnocchi and unfortunately wasn't a fan. It tasted very doughy to me. My friend got the mushroom pasta and we felt the same way about hers. Service was decent, but it was also really busy so that was understandable. Overall, I'm glad I tried it, but I don't think I'd personally go back.

The hostess told us we likely wouldn't sit until 9:45 so I inquired about the bar and the manager quickly stepped in to put us on a waitlist. Since the restaurant is connected to a food hall of sorts, she recommended we grab a drink there while we wait. Shortly after we got our drink, we received notification of an opening and were seated by 8:15. We had the burrata appetizer, Ragú x 2, and the seafood fra diavolo. The burrata was one of the best I've had since they serve it with pesto, pine nuts, and garlic bread. It was truly divine! The Ragú was not far behind. Incredible flavor and a generous portion. The seafood dish had a nice kick and had plenty of seafood, which is not common as of late. All dishes were also priced reasonably for the quality you received. As we sat at the bar, we had pleasant conversation with the bartender and finished our meal with a small cannoli that really sealed the deal. If you're looking for excellent Italian food in DC without breaking the bank, look no further than Caruso's grocery! However, I'd recommend reserving ahead of time because it's certainly not a secret. LOL

We ordered the Creamy Burrata, with Grilled Bread and four cheese sauce and the calamari for the appitizers. All of the appetizers were amazing and Im a sucker for grilled crushy bread. For the main course i ordered the Trout Piccata. The fish was cooked to perfection and the veggies were well seasoned. My friends ordered the chicken piccata, Caruso Alfredo and baked Cavatelli. Everything was good. Next up we ordered the butterfinger sundae, Nutella cannoli and tiramisu. The sundae base is chocolate ice cream. If you are fan of chocolate ice cream you will love the sundae. Overall great experience and I will definitely return!

Even the Polpette was extremely delicious, especially for something as simple as meatballs. Now for the main course, the 40-Layer Lasagna was amazing. I will say, though, that after a while, the flavor became so rich that it started to feel a little tiring. The Rigatoni alla Carbonara was also super good. I actually ended up switching with my partner so we could both enjoy the rest of each other's dishes. For dessert, we got the Crème Brûlée. I'd rate it a 4/5. The hamachi was a highlight; it was so fresh and bright. For mains, we got the pomodoro and bolognese pastas. These were alright. The pasta itself was a little harder than al dente unfortunately. But the flavor of the sauces were yummy. I loved the dessert! We had the chocolate cake and the creme brulee. These were among the best bites of the night. Restrooms were large and mostly clean. Wasn't expecting them to be as ornate (or as dark inside) as they were. Downside is that the restrooms are right next to the kitchen area so wait staff were constantly moving and I was worried about tripping someone.

The octopus was cooked correctly - it was tender and not chewy, but it was not the *most tender* that I've ever had. It was served with garlic confit potatoes, a variety of peppers, arugula, and a squid ink aioli. Everything had good flavor overall. Food was prepared quickly. Service was standard. They did all the basic checks but was nothing exceptional. The cacio e pepe came with a homemade tonnarelli. The tonnarelli had a good chewiness to it and stood up well to the melty cheese. It also held the heat well. It's a simple and classic dish that fit the bill. I would come here to try more dishes, but nothing immediately blew me away as a *must* return. The pizzas looked good.
