I love Mexican food! Many choices in the Mainline area but thought I'd venture to Media ( another foodie hub) to try a new spot. I searched for Mexican on Yelp and La Catrina caught my attention. Given it was 6:30 on a Saturday night I called to check on the wait for 2 and the wait was 25 min. I was hoping by the time I got there around 7 we would be lucky to get in sooner. Lucky us there was a table for 2 available Menu is one page- limited is good sometimes as the restaurant has focus on their best dishes. I found all my faves to try. We were greeted promptly and we ordered drinks and pico de gallo with tortilla chips. The server was very friendly and welcoming. The tortilla chips were in house made and the pico super fresh and large bowl. I ordered the dinner special - fajitas- did a combo of beef and chicken. Wow ! The seasoning was awesome. Tortillas were fresh and charred- so good! Portion was enough for 2 . So I took the rest honestly- yay lunch for the week Black beans delicious. Rice - plain white basmati style- I was expecting seasoned Mexican style but it was still fresh and tasted great with the black beans. Chicken tacos were stuffed with deliciousness! Fresh avocado, crispy lettuce and cojita cheese. Margarita was perfect! I think the best I've had - not sugary- perfect tart lime and just the right mix of tequila- future happy hour and drinks with friends soon here Too full for desert. Want to try the churros next time This decor is modern - casual dress - very pleasant dining experience. My new go to Mexican restaurant! .

I had a great dinner here today! And bonus... they have happy hour every day of the week, even for table service, from 4-6. They have some awesome food and drink deals! I had the blood orange margarita and it was DELISH! Tart and not too sweet. The queso fundido was awesome and came with flour tortillas. We got the chips and salsa too, because I like to put the queso on chips too! Everything was served warm and I could tell the chips and tortillas were homemade. For my entree, I had the fish tacos. The mahi mahi was perfectly crispy! I loved the chipotle aioli on it. It added a bit of a kick! I was too full for dessert, but the table next to us got churros and they looked amazing! I will have to get them next time :)

Get the tacos de pescado (fish tacos)! So good! My obsession with it is unhealthy. This is my second time getting it. Guacamole, also solid . Would love to come again and try the other items. Got to expand beyond the fish tacos. Service was quick and very friendly. Waitress checked in on us and just gave off a positive friendly energy, attitude. Good amount of seating, well spaced. Nicely decorated. Drinks were pretty solid too.

Overpriced Mexican food served with attitude!!! Please ANYONE tell me when you saw MP for fajitas???? REALLY!? Well let me tell you $27 for chicken fajitas is your current MP! But I can assure you it is only the VERY BEST QUALITY chicken!!! Served with cold tasteless black beans and rice...

La Catrina doesn't take reservations, but we were able to be seated as soon as we arrived. Unfortunately, where we were seated was next to a birthday party of 10 people, but we were able to be moved to a quieter spot or so we thought. However, the noise level in the restaurant was extraordinarily loud, and we had a hard time hearing each other across the table. As for the food, we enjoyed the guacamole and chips although would have loved for it to have been prepared tableside and with cilantro which was nonexistent. The La Catrina margarita with blood orange was excellent as was the jumbo shrimp in spicy, smoky chipotle sauce. Finally, a restaurant that isn't afraid to serve spicy food! My husband, however, felt the short rib enchilada topped with mole was under seasoned and skimpy with not much meat for the price. We skipped dessert so we could get our hearing back.

Had a nice weeknight dinner here! We coincidentally came on a night with a Day of the Dead dinner deal: $35 for an app, an entree, and a dessert. We were sold so we could try more of the menu! Tuna tostado was tasty but the queso is a pass- the cheesy was not easy to dip into. The sauce in the poblano chicken meal was delicious. Enchiladas were also very good, very filled. Dessert was also good (especially knowing that Media lacks late night sweet spots): the chocolate mousse had a little heat and the tres leches cake was delicious. I think chips and salsa/guac and margaritas are a must here! Would come back!

Got in the mood to try a new Mexican joint tonight. Well, at least it's new to me. So right off the bat, I'm just going to recommend the Enchilada De Costilla. I'm not usually a big fan of mole sauce but I am a fan of this one. The short rib was extremely tender and flavorful. This was worth the splurge. My wife got the salmon dish which she seemed to enjoy. Surprisingly she raved about the quinoa salad that came with it. Said it was very interesting. Now I'm not one to consider quinoa very interesting. But I tasted it. And I must say... it was rather interesting. And they have a kids menu with chicken fingers. 8 year old son approved. I'm usually more into the more basic styrofoam take out container Mexican places. You know, 3 tacos for 9 bucks. That sort of thing. But this place provided a nice change of pace.

I'd heard great things about this place from a friend so one early evening, when my husband was working late, I went in alone to sit at the bar and try their happy hour drinks and food. Margarita at $6 was fine. Empanada (about $8) was very good. Nachos were just adequate and several of the chips were burned as per photos below. I didn't try anything from their dinner menu but the prices seemed quite high for the entrées as described. While I was sitting at the bar, the manager came over to speak with two servers who were standing near the kitchen whose entrance is close to the bar. He was berating them for not having placed the alreliquor bottles in front of the unopened ones behind the bar. Very reasonable request but please have this discussion outside of guest's earshot and in a much quieter voice. The manager and staff just seemed unprofessional.

Had a great lunch here this weekend and will be back for sure! I had dinner plans so didn't go wild, I ordered 2 appetizers. Nachos with salsa verde, and the empanadas. The nachos were really good and the salsa verde was excellent. The empanadas were also really good, and rounded out my light lunch nicely. My friend got the guacamole and chihuahua cheese, the guacamole was good but I was amazed at how delicious the cheese was! Parking was easy for lunch but there are lots nearby if you can't get a spot on the street.

I can't say enough good things about this place. We went here on a Saturday night. They don't take reservations but we were seated promptly. I'm always on the lookout for authentic Mexican food outside of Philadelphia and this place blew me away. The margaritas are delicious. I thought the guacamole was a bit high at $14. For our entrees, I ordered the mahi mahi fish tacos. They were absolutely incredible. The serving of fish was extremely generous and the slaw on top is just the perfect portion and flavor. They give you 3 large tacos plus the tortillas are homemade. I ordered a side of chips and salsa and the portion of chips was generous. I just wish they gave more of the delicious salsa! My friend had the short rib enchiladas and couldn't stop raving about them. He loved the mole sauce. I don't give 5 stars often but this place deserves it. The staff very very friendly and all precautions for Covid were being taken. Also we saw someone order fajitas which aren't on the menu. Apparently they will make them special order for you. I'm so excited to come back and have those tacos again!

Service was great, food was meh. $67 = 7 tacos. I'm not cheap by any means but even to me that's a bit pricy for bland food.

If you look at my photo, fish tacos (like other photos of it here) is supposed to be a golden yellow color, not look like a brown turd. I've never had burnt food served to me before at a restaurant, so that was very disappointing. Quality control must not be great here. Additionally, before this I had noticed the menu was confusing. The lunch taco combo is written out confusingly (missing a comma) so that you think you will be getting tacos and a burrito or quesadilla, when it's one of the three. Also only their most simple tacos were included in that combo, not clear on the menu. Needs to be rewritten for clarity. They replaced my burnt Fish Taco with Birria Tacos instead when I asked but still had us pay for our food the same (didn't make my part of the order free). The Birria tacos were perfectly good though and they did replace my food, so it's 2 stars, even though I won't be coming here again and don't recommend it.

The server came over and got us set up with some chips and salsa while we looked through the menu. The salsa was great with the chips, and with the entrees later. I went with a chicken quesadilla platter. It came out with a side of rice and beans, guacamole, and sour cream. The quesadilla had a nice crisp on the tortilla and the filling was wonderfully seasoned.
