This place is in regular rotation for my partner and me. Service is always speedy & pleasant, margs are good & strong (El Jefe is probably #1 but they also make a great skinny marg too), and the food is always delicious. We like the vibe inside too! They have a bunch of Mexican art all around and booths are comfortable. We always get the queso instead of guacamole because we haven't gotten a queso that beats Rey Aztecas anywhere else. My personal favorites are the chicken & pineapple tacos and chicken fajitas. I've asked multiple waiters what's best on the menu and they all say fajitas. Love the Food here! I usually go with the Chicken & Steak fajitas and a Large Modello. My only gripe is they only give you 3 tortillas and a large plate. I always have to ask for more tortillas. The Chips & Queso are very tasty as well. Service is usualy very fast. The restaurant is always packed and the decor is very welcoming. TV's in the bar area. Booths are big and spacious. We've sat down and taken out for over 7 years. Over last year, service and quality has gone beyond downhill. Tonight, take out order was missing three items. I politely called and requested items while driving back again to pick up. They told me that I must bring back "all of the food" to ensure I'm not lying! When I explained that my family had already begun eating the food, they then told me it'd be 30mins for missing items we paid for. Upon arrival, the manager came out to the take out station and challenged my honest input about two missing cheese quesadillas and one missing order of 4 corn tortillas. He was making accusations over 4 corn tortillas (paid extra for and never got) and 2 cheese quesadillas. I was so blown away that i decided to promise never to come back before I walked out and took the loss. Beware. Fervently recommend against this place. read more

Went on Saturday night so naturally it would be busy.. and it was PACKED inside!!!!!!! Table for 2 wait time was 30 min. GOOD for them, but I'm honestly shocked. I've had wayyy better Mexican food elsewhere. Guacamole was plain and lacked the umph. Food came out super quickly though. Our server was really quiet and kinda odd? The decor takes bold elements like bright colors and splashes them across heavier furniture and different neutral tones of brown and black, making the colors pop without making the different pieces seem excessive. Like most restaurants serving this cuisine, the portions are generous. The food is good, especially the fajita quesadilla (pictured). If you're up for dessert, try the fried ice cream. I just left here. On a Friday night, there was a 35 minute estimated wait, and if I'm not mistaken, we did wait almost that amount of time exactly. When we got seated, the waiter greeted us and brought us chips and salsa right away. Both were complimentary, though we ordered queso as well (a whopping $6.99, but tasty enough to be worth it). The flautas were really good. I especially liked that they incorporated the aforementioned cheese sauce on top. And you could add as much or little of the separate toppings as you like. This dish was the highlight of dinner. I came with my sister mainly for the desserts though. She has searched far and wide for Sopaipillas in the area and we found them on the menu here. Sadly, they were a little disappointing. Generally, Sopaipillas mirror the fluffiness of beignets, but these arrived flat like tortillas which made them feel lacking. Unfortunately my churro cup was also not the greatest. It just didn't have the sweetness I'm used to from churros. Nonetheless, the ambiance here was cute. The artwork is interesting, as is the seating in the dining area. Our server, Arturo, really was great as well. He was kind and attentive. Overall, I would return but maybe would choose a different dessert and perhaps look to spend less. I felt like the bill was a bit hefty. read more

I would like to share my opinion. This restaurant is awesome! I've tried so many things on their menu, they're all delicious. One of my favorite meals, is a very simple one. I get it a lot for lunch, because it's delicious and it hits the spot! Their tacos are to die for. Everything is fresh, well, portioned, and absolutely out of this world. Before you eat, they bring a big bowl of fresh tortilla chips. The salsa is amazing. Whenever I'm there. I always ask for an extra bag and some salsa to take home. The service is amazing. Everyone is very friendly and helpful. Also, the staff are very friendly, I've actually started to develop a rapport with some of them, because I do eat there fairly often. What an asinine journey. I show up at 6:40 PM and ask for a table for two outside. The hostess says outside seating is first come first serve. Due to no available tables we decided to wait a few minutes for a table to leave. Once that table left we notified the hostess that a table outside had left and we planned to take it. We proceed to wait at least ten minutes for the table to be cleaned. During this period four more outside tables become available. Once our table is cleaned we take a seat and wait an additional twenty minutes as those other tables outside then fill in. After waiting a total of forty minutes the table next to us that arrived thirty minutes after us was given menus as well as chips and salsas before we are even greeted by a server. After witnessing this lack of situational awareness my party left and went to P.J. Whelihan's across the street, where we were greeted and served in under five minutes. What is your excuse for this absolute failure of service? This is totally unacceptable and absolutely ridiculous. read more

I've been here twice now and really like it! I had a great experience both times. They have a pretty big menu with lots to choose from. The margaritas are huge and delicious. They give you complimentary chips and salsa to start which tastes great. On my most recent visit, I ordered the los cocos special. It comes with two quesadillas, one chicken and one steak and a side of Mexican rice. It was SO good. Both meats were so flavorful and the rice was perfect. And it was a big portion too. Both times I've came here the service was good. The price is reasonable. This is a small chain which I had no idea, it doesn't feel like a chain at all. Great Mexican spot. read more

Tried it for the first time. My husband had the "Tour of Mexico" and I had chicken fajitas. We were served by the wonderful Sara. Food is good, not great, but the generous serving of warm chips with salsa, was welcome. The restaurant was crowded, vibrant, noisy, and very kid friendly, which is fine. Food was delicious! The chips and salsa to start were amazing we ate the whole basket before our meal came. I got a mojito which I must say was delicious. I did the original one with rum and it was minty and lime forward and not to sweet at all. I ordered taquitos for my meal and they were delicious, perfectly crunchy and the steak and chicken were tender and not dry. Our waiter was very nice and attentive. It was pretty crowded for a Wednesday night I thought but we didn't have to wait and our food came quickly. We will definitely be back to try out more! read more

First time at Rey Azteca and sadly probably going be my last time due to the rude manager. Last night my girlfriend and I took her family there who were visiting from Colombia and we also invited friends to join us. The waiter was great and the food was good and over price but whatever. The thing that bother us was that the Restaurant was promoting Ladies Night $6 margaritas. So all the ladies at our table order Margaritas. When we got our bill we notice that they charged us full price. So we asked the waiter so got the manager for us. We told him that the card on the table said it was $6 for margaritas for ladies. The manager told us that it was only for their house margarita. Which the it doesn't say anywhere on the card or the menu. The manager quickly said that it says it online, then told us he doesn't care about our opinions or what we think and that we can leave. So we left dissatisfied and the worst thing is that we checked the website and it said $6 for all margaritas. The manager scammed us and lied to us. I worked at many restaurant/bars in my life and I understand the stress and jerk customers you get. But just lying to the customers and conning people for their money is just low. read more

The chips for the table were stale, and the salsa tasted like puréed tomato's, with no hint of onions, and peppers, there was a slight taste of cilantro. I ordered the tacos el pastor, and they were ok-ish. As a side I ordered a Chile Rellenos, and what I received Wes something I don't know what to call. It was a blanched puke green pepper, steamed with cheese sauce slathered on top. For the record- Chile Rellenos should be a poblano( or Anaheim) pepper stuffed with queso asadero, badgered and fried and served with a light spiced tomato sauce over top. My date ordered a combo that included flank steak. The steak was pure beef jerky, just as salty and tough. A completely disappointing meal, it was impossible to speak with the server as English was at best his third language.... read more

Came here with family. They said it's their favorite spot. It was very very good. I loved it! Such a chill place and authentic atmosphere. The chips were not my favorite type of tortilla but still house made and extremely good. I could eat 'em for hours. I loved the queso ! So yummy... queso is always a win and it was creamy and pure just how I like it here. Aside from that I ordered al pastor tacos on corn tortilla because street tacos are BAE and they were soooo good!!!! The meat was PERFECT. Just how I wanted it ! And not all places master this. Rice and refried beans were also yummy. Rice was my fave of the two. Refried beans aren't my thing but I ate them and they were good. Also I have to say I was impressed by the margarita. It was tasty and not too sweet and huge! And it didn't give me a headache like other margs do so massive kudos to Rey's ! Thanks for a great night out. My family adores this place and I know why! Let's all wish Rey Azteca luck as yet another restaurant opens in this very tough location. Nothing seems to survive here! That should all change when the new apartments by 252\3 are populated, as well as the business park right up the street. Until then, it seems to be a tough spot for a restaurant, or the dessert place next store, to last more than a year. I have to start by saying I am not a big fan of Mexican food. I'd rather goto Qdoba\Chipolte than 99% of Mexican chain restaurants, including this one. Everything seems to be dripping in sauces and cheeses, when I just want a taco, plain and simple. Ground beef, cheese, lettuce, salsa and I'm good. Maybe I should be ordering off the kids menu as so much of their offerings are lost on my simple taste buds...Similar to when I eat at an Asian place, but instead of Chicken or Beef Teriyaki, I'm ordering Chicken or Beef Fajitas. Our party of 4 adults went at 11:30 Sunday morning. I should have requested a bigger table when they took us to a "4 top" booth. These are really perfect for 2 people, but cramming 4 adults in there is a bit ridiculous, especially at 11:30 Sunday when there is no one in the restaurant. 2 of us ordered fajitas and took over half the table...we had so many plates some of them sat stacked where the server dropped them off, and neither of the fajitas was ever assembled...we ate them off the hot plates with a fork because the table was so crowded. Sadly, I never recovered from this(the uncomfortable and overcrowded table) and it affected my entire experience. My first time there and I couldn't wait to leave...But they still get 3 stars for the nice service, the very tasty refried beans, and the fajita, which was never assembled, but still good.
