We recently dined at Teca and left feeling incredibly conflicted. To start, the atmosphere is warm and inviting. We were seated immediately upon arrival on their enclosed outdoor porch, which was comfortably heated and very pleasant on a winter evening. The menu offers a wonderful variety of Italian dishes along with a diverse drink, wine, and beer selection. From a food and ambiance standpoint, it had all the makings of a fantastic night out. Unfortunately, the service fell far short. After being seated, we waited nearly 20 minutes while multiple staff members walked past our table without acknowledgment. We finally had to ask if anyone had been assigned to us. Our waitress then arrived and apologized, explaining she wasn't aware the table was hers. She kindly took our drink, appetizer, and dinner orders all at once. From there, the delays continued. It took about 40 minutes for bread and appetizers to arrive -- and at that point, none of our drinks had been delivered. They did eventually come a few minutes later. The arancini and calamari were piping hot and cooked beautifully -- truly delicious and presented perfectly. When our appetizer plates were cleared, we ordered another round of drinks to enjoy with dinner. Those drinks never arrived. Another 40 minutes passed before our dinners were brought out. By then, my family was frustrated and disappointed. The lack of attention and repeated service oversights overshadowed what was otherwise very good food. We ended up asking for our meals to be wrapped and for the check. Even then, no one returned to collect payment, and we had to walk to the front to ask for a manager. To the manager's credit, he listened and offered to offset part of the bill or provide a gift card. We declined -- we were comfortable paying for the food we received. Our goal was simply to share concerns about the service experience. But what happened next is the most troubling part. We made our reservation through OpenTable. After leaving the restaurant and beginning our drive home, we received an email notification stating that our reservation had been canceled. Given the timing -- immediately after speaking with the manager -- it felt intentional, as though the reservation was canceled to prevent us from leaving a review on OpenTable. Whether that was the intent or not, it certainly left that impression. It's disappointing because the food and atmosphere are truly lovely. With attentive, consistent service, this restaurant could easily be a standout in Newtown Square. Unfortunately, on this visit, the service experience -- and the post-dining cancellation -- left us feeling unheard and unsettled. A friend and I went to lunch at Teca in Newtown Square on Tuesday, December 9. The lunch menu was handed to us on a slip of paper with no prices. I ordered the risotto with chicken which covered a plate and was tasty but that was it. It was $27. We did request bread which the waitress brought. We asked for coffee and each got a small cup, but again, there were no prices listed. When the waitress asked if we wanted a refill we said we did. She NEVER told us that we would be charged for refills. As it turned out, the coffee was $4.50 for a small cup which meant that with the refill and the tip and the tax and the 3% charge for using a credit card, the coffee was over $11 for each of us which was OUTRAGEOUS! I think it would behoove Teca to at the very least let customers know prices of the food they are ordering. I also think it is inexcusable to pay over $11 for coffee. Although the atmosphere was nice it was definitely not worth the money and I will be going somewhere else for lunch in the future. There are many good Italian restaurants in the area that are just as good with more reasonable prices. read more

The four of us had our first meal at Teca. We will be back. This is a wonderful restaurant. My husband had steak tips risotto, I had potato gnocchi, and our friends had the meatball appetizer (biggest meatball I've ever seen) and chicken Caesar salad. For dessert, we had cheesecake. I SO wish I'd gotten the name of our server; she was attentive, funny and very efficient. The food was beyond excellent, and the restaurant, itself, is spacious, with good parking and easy to find. Came here for Thanksgiving because they had the option of getting turkey or ordering a la carte. Unfortunately for my vegetarian wife all they had was cheese pizza, not one pasta option. No kids menu. My food came out after my family had finished eating. At least we were comped dessert. Even so, my food was just ok. Nice ambiance, but spotty service. Not familiar with the area I decided to go with Teca for my son's wedding welcome dinner. I made the absolute correct choice. The wait staff was attentive, the food was amazing and the ambience of the room was perfect. This past wknd we had my daughter's bridal shower in the Verona Room. Everything was exceptional! I received excellent suggestions and explanations from Claire Marie prior to the event. The day of I was put at ease from the beginning as Rae went above and beyond to make everyone happy. One guest had a nut allergy and was never taken care of so well. The food was delicious and I received so many compliments about it after. The chicken aglio and bread with sun dried tomato pesto dipping sauce was unbelievable!! The food was hot and plentiful and the room is so bright and airy with bathrooms right outside. It was a wonderful time by all in part by all Teca does so well. I've been to Teca in West Chester a million times but this was my first time in Newtown - it is HUGE!!! I appreciated that it was staffed really well. Service was excellent. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because the menu is so much smaller than WC! I wish I could give 4.75 because our server got the kitchen to make what my mom usually gets even though it was not on this menu. I just thought it was weird to have a bigger restaurant but smaller menu. The drinks were good 7/10. The Espresso Martini was better than the margarita. Def worth a try if you like that. We got a few orders of the Angry Crab Spaghetti, I would give it a 7/10. It was more on the mild side, Personally would've liked it a bit more "angry" but still good. The branzino, I really wanted to like but I did not. It lacked flavor and seasoning and additionally the toppings that came with it, just did not pair nicely in my opinion. 5/10 The lobster ravioli was great ! 8/10 simple and flavorful, definitely a hit. Dined at Tecca for the 1st time this past weekend and found the restaurant large, loud & very busy. The decor is of dark woods and it appears that there are various dining rooms throughout the large facility. Walking in it seemed more like a busy train station and we were then shuttled quickly to the platform we assigned to. The waitstaff were nice & knowledgeable but neither them or us could shake the hectic energy that was floating in the air. The food was well prepared and quite tasty but overall more of a high energy party spot than a nice dinner out with intimate friends or loves. read more

I came here for a friend's bridal shower and let me tell you - this place is the perfect venue for any sort of event (there were three other events at the same time!). Luckily we were in the wine cellar and it was such a cool experience (although there wasn't any cell service ‍. First course was a penne vodka dish which was so delicious. The vodka sauce was so decadent and flavorful. Caprese Salad with mozzarella, tomato, and Arugula was simple yet classy. The Arugula was a little bit on the saltier side, but everything else was perfect. Chicken Parm was honestly the best chicken parm I have ever had. The chicken was so tender and was cooked perfectly. Normally, the breading is soggy after sitting in marinara, but this was not. Fantastic. Vanilla bean creme brûlée was so delicious. It wasn't too sweet and was the perfect dessert. We recently hosted a bridal shower for our daughter in the wine cellar at Teca Newtown Sq. It was AMAZING! The room was beautiful and intimate with tea lights everywhere. The food was delicious, complimented by many of our guests. The staff could not do enough for us and they were so polite and kind. We had Haley, Brooke and Colin. The special event coordinators were Tegan and Claire and both were very attentive, responsive to all my questions and were on site for our event. It was a perfect day and so well done!! read more

We had a wedding ceremony and reception at Teca Newtown Square in the Grotto Room. The event was held Sunday late afternoon into the evening. From the initial tour to the final event day, we were so pleased with everything. The event manager, Tegan, was very informative and made many suggestions on how the day would flow. She was quick to respond to my many questions and concerns. If she could not get back to us, Claire took over. The day of our wedding was perfect. The staff was incredibly accommodating and attentive while not interfering. All of our guests were raving about the delicious food and appetizer selections and wonderful service. The room set up was beautiful and allowed for us to have our ceremony in front of the fireplace in an intimate setting of 34 guests. With one call, Tegan (the events coordinator) sprang into action, helping me to secure a buffet luncheon for 80 guests with less than two days-notice. Every aspect proved to be perfect - from the delicious buffet and attentive service to the comfortable and aesthetically pleasing Verona Room. A double kudo to Tegan for her grace under my pressure, to manager Matt for his professional overseeing, and to Rita, the room's captain that day, who seamlessly led her young and able staff. We went here for dinner last minute as we were out with friends and wanted to get something to eat. We had just come back from Sicily so my expectations were extremely high. I'm very disappointed with the quality of the Italian restaurants in the area so I was really hoping whatever I ordered here would bring me back. I'll start with the amazing... I ordered the house made agnolotti and it was the best pasta dish I've had in the US since being in Boston's little Italy last year. The quality of the Italian restaurants in the area is abysmal, but this pasta dish made me cry tears of joy. My husband ordered the hamburger and he enjoyed it. The house made bread served with olive oil that was dressed up with some herbs and spices was really good and that brought me back too Sicily as well. Wine list was extensive and impressive. We were able to get an Italian wine we wouldn't normally find in most restaurants. The prices of the wines are obnoxiously high and I have a problem with restaurants doing this but we are the idiots that will pay that price so there's that. As an appetizer, my husband and I shared the crispy eggplant pollette. While it was well made and tasty, I just felt like there was a lot breadcrumb filler. This is the problem I have with Italian restaurants around here is everything is breaded and fried so I avoid most places. In their defense though, this is what the general public likes *sigh*. My friends raved about the mixed cocktails and ordered a few and they looked beautiful. They enjoyed them. As for seating, the young hostesses need to read reservation notes. I specifically ask not to be seated near babies and children. The restaurant was empty and yet they sat us right next to a family with a very fussy, cranky, screeching baby. I immediately asked to be moved and they moved us to the other side of the room but next to another damn family with little boys. Thankfully those little boys were invisible, meaning well-behaved so we were good with that. I really wish there were rules where babies and young children are not allowed in restaurants after a certain time but they seem to have more rights than me, a taxpaying law-abiding citizen. So whatever. Anyway, back to the topic of we really enjoyed this restaurant overall because of the fresh pasta and bread. It's not that close to where we live so I don't think we can go there often but I will recommend it to people who are in the area. read more

This was my first experience here at Teca. A good friend of mine had a retirement party here in the "wine cellar". We arrived a bit early and the Phillies were playing so we went to the bar to sit and have a drink until the downstairs opened up. The staff was attentive (I think there were 3 bartenders for the fairly medium-sized bar) and the TV's all had the game on. Space was tight at the bar, seemed like lots of regulars but had a really good vibe all around. When we went down for the party we were treated to a large spread of really delicious food. Baked ziti, chicken piccata, Ceasar salad, and many little desserts rounded out the meal. If they can serve this quality of food catering style just imagine what they can put on a plate for a single order. Excited to return here for dinner on a date night with my wife. read more

The following is my opinion of what occurred to me last week. Teca needs to take food allergies more seriously. I was there recently with a large party. I have a shellfish allergy according to a test I took a few years ago (although never had any to verify until last week when I was there). I mentioned to the staff that if I could have a dish of pasta instead as I have a shellfish allergy and could not eat what was on the limited menu. I get the dish and immediately noticed an odd taste like that of shrimp. I continued to eat and near the end of the entree I noticed a piece of shrimp at the bottom of the pasta. I notified the waiter and he apologized and did say that he made sure that the cooks were notified of the allergy. The manager also came over to see how I was doing. Luckily I did not have any reaction. In my opinion, I believe the chefs in the kitchen just took out the shrimp from what they made for the rest of the party and forgot one of them. Teca needs to take this more seriously as it could put someone in the hospital. read more

This was a bit of a struggle between a 3 or 4 star update but, after two visits, I can't trust a consistent fantastic experience for patrons. Our second visit was marred by a manager on the front desk phone obviously arguing over a complaint- as we walk in. Our own service was fantastic from start to finish and have no complaints whatsoever. We were checked in by multiple people for many reasons and timing was excellent on all fronts. The things they hit great- the drinks were delicious and strong. Their bread and sauce were a simple but zesty comfort to start. The portions are huge. The desserts were phenomenal (no idea if made in house). The actual dishes were solid but nothing I'd be excited for again. I got the braised short ribs which was very rich comfort food but the veggies did not make a real side and were undercooked. The pasta and sauce were a rich complement and I do recommend the dish overall. We also tried the lobster ravioli but the flavors were bordering on bland with the lobster only coming as a supportive flavor between the ricotta and shrimps. The sauce again was luscious but again so delicate it was easy to get lost. This seems a popular place for groups and for young kids at least in the early evenings. I just think the prices are inner city level for not getting that expected level of polish and pop. read more

A modern Italian restaurant that currently has both indoor and outdoor seating - came here to celebrate a birthday with my boyfriend's family (a group of 5) on a Friday evening. The only redemptive factor was the food - all other aspects were average or below average. How they're handling safety: Honestly - not well. My boyfriend called in, asking for our reservation to have outdoor seating, and they promised him that the restaurant only serves at 20% capacity and we could definitely sit outside. That was 100% false - when we got to the restaurant, they told us no outdoor seating was available (which was true because all of their outdoor tables were booked). Inside, the restaurant was also at ~50% capacity, at least. The tables did not seem very spaced out for me to feel comfortable. Still 6 feet apart, but just around 6 feet apart. All wait staff and customers were required to wear masks, and tables were wiped down after each customer left, but I still felt a bit anxious with how full the restaurant was inside. Atmosphere: Music was very clubby / played mostly electronic dance music - it honestly reminded me of nightclubs in Europe. Our table was right under both the speakers and the air conditioning - music was too loud and the air too cold. We requested multiple times for both to be turned down a bit, and eventually (after around the 3rd time), the air felt less cold. We also saw 2 flies buzzing around the windows inside - my boyfriend and his sister got rid of them both. Food: This might be the only reason I'd come back, since I thought the entrees were quite tasty! I ordered the monkfish, which was paired with a delicious carrot Purée. My boyfriend's family ordered the cavatelli, which came with a creamy tomato sauce - a bit on the heavier side, but still prepared well, and they would order again. Overall: 2/5 - Though the food was well prepared, I likely would not come back, just given the fact we felt like what they had told us over the phone vs. what we saw in the restaurant regarding seating were totally different stories. There are other good Italian options nearby with less crowded seating. read more

Went here with my family when they were in town and thought all of the food was excellent. However, I am dropping a star because we didn't have a server for about 10 minutes after we sat down until my mom's boyfriend went to find someone. After that, the service was great with the exception of asking the server what grappa was and he asked if we wanted to try it but didn't realize he was going to charge us $20 for the whole glass. We just wanted to taste it and he could have made it clear he was going to charge us for it. Anyways, the food was excellent. The langostinos were amazing, melted in your mouth. The burrata with beets and prosciutto was very tasty. The highlight of the dinner was probably the branzino that they filleted at the table and also the halibut dish with risotto. The most disappointing dish was the calamari. The fish itself was good but the breading was bland and the sauces boring. Overall I would definitely come back. read more
