I was reeally excited to try this place because it looks like one of those hole-in-the-wall types of places with exquisite cuisine you can't find anywhere else... It was actually packed in there so definitely not a hole-in-the-wall, more of a popular locale spot. I'm just dumb, so.. shrugs. There were a few dishes I ordered: the mofongo de pulpo - octopus salad. OMG - FREAKING AMAZING. This is one of those few restaurants that offer octopus on their menu and they made this dish so perfect. I gave my mom some to try and asked her if she knew what it was - "IS THAT OCTOPUS!?" lol it was easily her favorite dish. The mofongo had such an amazing texture to it, I was really surprised. I assumed it would be mushy like fried bananas normally would be, but this had a more tapioca-like chewy texture which made it all the more perfect. I also tried the guanabana drink. I've never had soursop before and I can see why it's named the way it is. The smell is really vomit-inducing, literally, it smells like vomit (no offense to the business whatsoever, it's just the natural smell of soursop fruit). The first sip, it tastes like it too, but the magical thing about this drink is it literally leaves a pure aftertaste that is identical to lychee/rambutan fruit, and the vomit taste completely disappears. It's actually pretty delicious when you get over the smell. The young server guy that took my order, was a hispanic male, was incredulously nice, super attentive, and took all steps to make me feel as comfortable and enjoyable as possible there. Terrible customer service. Came here for the traditional Dominican breakfast on a Sunday at 12pm. The place was busy with only 2 servers. Both ignored my table while acknowledging 2 other groups that came in after me. I had to hunt down a server to take my order. When I asked him why the other two tables that came after me were greeted before I was he could only say that they were busy. SMDH. If it weren't for the rain I trekked in to get here, I would've left without ordering but it would've been a waste of a trip. Ordered mangu, fried salami, and fried cheese with the morir sonando (OJ with milk and sugar). Both tables that came in after me got their food before me. I don't get it???? I had to follow up twice on my order and there was no apology or regard for the delay or poor sevice. I cannot comment on the food because it never came out after 30 mins of placing the order. Ridiculous!! Also, parking here is extremely limited. There are only about 6-8 parking spots of the section of Georgia Ave. off the 495 exit. read more

A bit disappointed after a few recommendations. Parking can be a headache but once you are inside, it is hard to decipher the combination of disco ball, high tv's, semi full bar, and hardwood dance floor. Staff is not as knowledgeable and definitely not struggle if you order in English though they do compensate in how friendly and open they are. Food has decent flavor but that is about it. Texture and consistency is off.. tough meat, hard and dry mofongo, a bit burnt and hard tostones, etc.. For drinks, unless you order a beer, stick with water! read more

I love love love mofongo! I always get the rabo (oxtail) con mofongo every time I come- never fails. I usually ALWAYS dine in- however I've ordered for pick up maybe twice and each time it was sketchy, so I can't give them the full 5 stars. First- the servers just STARE at you while they talk among themselves and will take literally 10 minutes to approach you. So that alone is annoying because my food was sitting & already ready for pick up but instead I'm sitting here waiting to be approached by the staff to say I'm here and ordered over the phone. The point of pre ordering is to be in and out, I wouldn't mind waiting if my food wasn't ready yet but I don't think it's cool to be simply waiting for staff to say hi to you while your food is sitting there getting cold by the minute. Then the servers become EXTRA friendly and attentive once I speak Spanish, my skin is dark so maybe they didn't know I was Spanish too. But favoritism is apparent with the servers- not cool bro. read more

We drive past all the time and finally had a chance to eat here. We had the fried pork skin appetizer. Very good. The pork was tender and juicy. We all enjoyed it very much. My daughter liked her shrimp with garlic. I very much liked the oxtail and goat though the oxtail was a bit fatty. My wife liked the Mofongo but I didn't care for the flavors. My rice and beans were well cooked. Overall we were very pleased with our meals and expect to return. read more

I went there with my friend on Friday for the first time. We got there and were immediately greeted and seated. it did take about 5 or so minutes before our server (chachi or something) got to us, but the moment he came...WOAH! his energy was amazing, he immediately apologized for the wait. He was so knowledgeable and enthusiastic about everything and honest. he took our drink orders, the margarita was perfect, my friend's mojito was also perfect. I ordered the mofongo masita de cerdo and my friend got carne frita...both meals were sooo delicious like perfect! before we left we got a slice of cake. she got the tres leches and I got the guava cake. let's just say I 20 minutes yesterday just to go get some cake...my only complaint is parking. there's not a lot but it's not their fault. so still giving them 5 stars! read more

I came here with a few friends last night since my best friend really wanted to try the Mofongo out. She had gone to Puerto Rico and was craving this sort of dish and thought this place would satisfy her craving. Well... I on the other hand had no idea what a Mofongo was and was just intimidated by the entire thing. So... I tried it too. Apparently, according to her stay in PR, there was no comparison. I on the other hand had nothing to really compare it to. The dish over all was okay. It had a lot of garlic in it and as a result the garlic lingered on over to the next day. We also ordered fried cheese and plantains. The plantains in my opinion could have been sweeter. (Like for example: Crisp & Juicy ) The waiter was fine. Nice and attentive. Would I go back to this place? Probably not to try the Mofongo again but maybe for the carne asada or something. The ambient was good. The music was Salsa, Merengue, and Bachata which was fine. And this place knows its Mofongo. Mine was well-seasoned with a mojo of olive oil that has been well-spiked by a good hit of garlic. Furthermore, pieces of crushed chicharrón, fried pork belly, has been thrown into the mix, which added more unctiousness to the plain starch. The topping of shrimp in red sauce (also comes in a white sauce) was the right order with its seafood sweetness, and the savoriness and moisture from the tomato-based sauce made the rather dry mound of starch more palatable. The ring of lettuce and tomato slices around the dish was unfortunately soggy and unnecessary, but it was not enough to distract my tongue from this Piece de Resistance. I went today for the first time with my family and boy did they not disappoint us! We ordered Mofongo de chicharron, Mofongo de Camarones, chicharron de pollo and bistec encebollado. It was pretty empty (Tuesday evening) and our food took a while to come out, but it was delicious! We will definitely be back to try other items on the menu! read more

I was not very impressed with the quality of food - this place is pretty pricey and I feel like they just microwave the food. The service and environment was great but the food they should really change that. We did love the mofongo - it was the only thing I would say I enjoyed.I have tried better food for this price. This is from Christmas Eva, ordered over $150 of food for pick up, (I should have checked all the bags) and I left a $15 on a carry out order. All the bar tender had to do was check the items and pack in a bag and they got a trip. A few of the items were missing. That is not my issue. My issue was with the bartender that answered the phone when I called the ask about my order. He was very rude and unapologetic. Hours later a manager called and said I have to come back to get my money back. when I came Dec 26th, the money was returned to my card and that was in. first and last time there. At Casa del Mofongo, you are DOOMED either way. Went there with my wife, who is Dominican, and I am Puerto Rican. We know good Caribbean food. This, is the opposite. The food came out cold. The goat that my wife ordered had oxtail in it. The plantains were fried in the same oil they have been using since they opened. It took three requests to get water. The tables are all scratched up and gross. Their saving grace is the rice and beans, which is the only thing that is not terrible. No me gusta this place. read more

Bad experience. Against my better judgment, I tried this Latino/Caribbean restaurant located in the grimy, desolate part of Silver Spring (by the gas stations on Georgia Av). First of all, they messed up my order, and I got beef instead of the chicken I'd ordered; but even the beef dish that I got was unappetizing and dry, and tasted as bad as it looked. Just dry slabs of beef with almost no sauce or seasoning. The options for good food in Silver Spring aren't nearly as numerous as this site would have you believe. Both of the Greek restaurants on Georgia Ave. suck, and the main town center is just a bunch of lousy chains. This was yet another disappointment. read more

This is my first experience with Puerto Rican food so I may not have the best grasp of the cuisine. My coworkers took me here for lunch today and since the restaurant name literally means "the house of the mofongo," I had to try the mofongo! I ordered the mofongo de pollo (I used the Yelp pictures to decide what I wanted to try). The waiter didn't really seem to speak English (which was OK because my coworkers all spoke Spanish and I knew enough to fend for myself). I didn't really know what to expect, but I was disappointed. The mofongo was dry and room temperature (not hot). I dipped it into the sauce but that didn't seem enough. A coworker and I both ended up scooping another coworker's Chuleta Guisada's stew onto our mofongo which made it better. I also personally thought that the chicken was over-fried because it was difficult for me to make out which parts were edible and which parts were bone. I just felt like I gained nothing nutritious from that meal. My stomach is craving vegetables right now. I also feel like, if your restaurant boasts mofongo, that should be done perfectly, and there should be lunch specials featuring it! I actually didn't understand anything listed under the lunch specials, and since I wanted to try the mofongo, I had to order off the regular menu. The mofongo de pollo was $13.99 (higher than what it says online). I really did enjoy a bite from the Chuleta Guisada though. If I ever return next time, I will order that and skip the mofongo completely. read more
