    Tripleta Sandwich
    Hilary T.

Got the chance to try this food truck at Wheatland Spring today and glad we did! They had great veggie empanadas that were perfectly fried, crispy and crunchy on the outside, but tender and well cooked veggie medley inside (mushrooms, eggplant, onions, red peppers, zucchini, and yellow squash, all very finely diced and cooked in tomato sauce). It was one of the best vegetarian empanadas we've had. (Note: the pizza empanadas are vegetarian, too, and looked/smelled great.) We tried all the sauces with them and particularly loved the pique (peppery but not too hot) and the Mayo/ketchup blend (the mojo was good, too). I also got the Tripleta sandwich because I couldn't pass up the combo of skirt steak, roasted pork and ham. I'm also a sucker for any dish that incorporates chips, and the potato sticks on top here were too intriguing to pass up. This sandwich was huge and tasted and smelled great, full of well-seasoned and cooked meats and the crunch from the potato sticks. The bread held its own for awhile, but I definitely needed a fork to finish up (did I have one? No, but that didn't stop me because I'm not particularly classy.) Definitely worth checking this truck out!

I love Borinquen Lunch Box. My friend says it's the best Puerto Rican food you will get in this area, as it is something that is noticeably missing from our diverse food scene. Their empanadas (pastelitos, really) are super crispy and delicious. I love the tostones with mojo sauce, which is super garlicky. The bacalao with rice and beans is huge and filling. The fish is super fresh and well-seasoned. You can pre-order pasteles during the holidays. I wish they came into DC more, but I try to catch them at Port City whenever I get a craving.

Borinquen Food Truck! Boriquen is a sector of Puerto Rico... did ya know? Google did! This food truck happened to be at the Curbside Cookoff that happened this past weekend in Wheaton MD. What did I get from this busy truck operation. I got two empanadas- one chicken - one beef and something called an alcapurria. The empanadas were both delicious. I just wish that some sort of salsa were to be served with the. Just a little something fresh ( maybe a slaw). The alcapurria was surely my favorite thing. A plantain wrapped around a mixture of spiced beef and delicious. Man was this good! I've never encountered such a thing. I didn't really taste the plantain. I tasted a delicious mildly chewy coating around a vibrant mixture of meat and spices. SO GOOD! I would definitely hit this place up again.

My wife saw and grabbed the Trio Empanada's while I was at appointment. We shared the Beef and Chicken and were hooked, I preferred the Beef so Yes, I stood in line and got three more !!! Totally enjoyed the taste, Wife loved the light and crisp shell and I loved it all. Enjoyed our conversation with the owner and look forward to following on FB and around town. Delicious food and Friendly People - Great Combination !!!

Food is delicious. The bacalao guisado amazing. Paired excellently with plátano maduro to give savory and sweet boldness. Came with a heaping amount of yellow rice and beans. The amount of bacalao is good. Also tried the chicken empanada which was really good. Pizza was okay. Cuban sandwich was good as well. I accidentally deleted photo of bacalao but if they offering get it.

Yayyyyyy....Felt like home :) I'm a happy camper. I graduated from culinary school and I'm critical specially of food from my country but the food here is very good and the owner is super nice. My hubby and I enjoyed it a lot. My favorite was the yuca alcapurria and the arroz con gandules tasted like "navidad boricua" AKA Puerto Rican Christmas. Tostones were good and fresh with the mayoketchup. Very proud Ps. Witness the owner giving food to a homeless guy and that shows his heart. He didn't know I would include it here but those are the true heroes among us...Sigue como eres Boricua

I was super excited when I saw that there's be a new food truck in my area (Fairfax). I ordered the Cubano because I've been dying to have a Cuban sandwich and let me just say this was B-O-M-B!!! The bread was a bit flaky on the outside and soft on the inside. The pork melted in your mouth and with the combination of mustard, cheese, and pickles it was amazing. I hear they're going to be at Taste of DC; I may just have to stop by again. Please put willow Oaks on your schedule regularly!!!

Hands down the best Cuban I've ever had

So delicious! I had the Cubano sandwich and it was perfection!! We also had the chicken sandwich with potato sticks and it was so good!!

Beef, chicken, & veggie empanada and tripletas sandwich aka triple meat: roast pork, diced ham, skirt steak
    Annie T.

Wow I am impressed. I got the Tripletas Sandwich aka Triple Meat Sandwich. It had roasted pork, diced ham, skirt steak, potato sticks w/ a mayo/ketchup sauce on a soft bun. It was the size of a Chipotle burrito. Man it had good flavors. I loved the seasoning. I asked for the sauce on the side and I liked pouring it on a little at a time so the bread wouldn't get soggy. I thought I would get sick of eating it since it was so much meat, but no I happily ate it all. My coworker ordered the 3 empanadas, trying each flavor out; beef, chicken, and veggie. I think she liked the beef the best. I tried a piece and it also had good flavors and was nice and crispy. My coworker did say she wished it came with a Chimichurri sauce or something to dip. She also got the watermelon lemonade and that was delicious, a little on the sweet side, but easily fixed by adding a little water to it. The Tripletas Sanwich was $9.50 and I wish it came with a little side of some sort. Overall I was happy and I would love to eat it again.

    Cuban Sandwich

They have an excellent Cuban sandwich. The ham, pork, swiss cheese, and mustard are pressed in fresh bread. The sandwich isn't greasy and uses top quality ham/pork, no cheap lunch meat here. Have one of these for lunch and you'll be happy and full, good luck trying to stay awake in that boring afternoon meeting.

Tripletas-diced ham, roasted pork, skirt steak with potato sticks and signature mayo/ketchup mix served on pan sobao- that's 1/2

I wanted to update my review after trying multiple items from here now. I had half of the cuban sandwich and half of the tripletas sandwich and both of these were fantastic! The cuban was not greasy at all and had a nice mixture of flavorful roasted pork and ham on it in addition to swiss, mustard, and pickles. The sandwich was HUGE for $9.50 and I was full after only half. However, I was quite intrigued by the tripletas, roasted pork, skirt steak, and diced ham topped with potato sticks and a spicy signature sauce, that I just couldn't stop at the cuban! My preference goes to the Cuban as the tripletas just felt very heavy but tastewise, it was just as flavorful as the Cuban. Service was friendly although it did take some time to receive our food. I would certainly eat here again in the future.

They were crispy, good amount of filling and nice flavor overall. Fantastic. I think they should serve the meal with a bit more rice. The Pernil, pulled pork was sort of dry and unfortunately the large side of garilc mojo sauce (garlic oil) was sideways in the bag and by time I got it home, the oil had all leaked out into the paper bag and onto the floor mat inside my car. The mofongo bites listed as 5 bites, however I only received 4. They were on the sweet side. The masa from the plantain taste too ripe for my liking. I prefer more green plantains in my mofongo. The tostones were pretty good. The pictures made them look a bit larger, but oh well. This was my first time ordering from a ghost kitchen, and the concept is a brilliant idea because you can order from so many cuisines! You can try so many restaurants in one place. Quite amazing.

I was not too hungry so I ordered pastellitos and mofongo bites. Pastilitos were a little disappointing. They were long and flat and not stuffed with a lot of meat. Tasted nothing like mofongo. 2 comes in a order and I could barely eat 1. It came with a garlic sauce and the mayo ketchup. I really wanted to like this place but I dont recommend.

Unfortunately, due to bad past experiences with mofongo from other places, I decided to skip the mofongo and go for a guisada (stew). Generally speaking the beef stew, which was served with beans and rice was decent. However, for my tastes, the stew seemed to be really greasy/fatty. I do not think that I ever had a guisado with so many fat droplets in the "soup". Also, I thought the beef was a bit tough/chewy for a stew; I was expecting the meat to be a bit more tender. While the stew was not horrible, I will say that I was a bit disappointed that I spent $20 on it. Since this is a Domincan restaurant, a little Spanish might go a long way. Overall, I thought the staff was nice. However, this appears to be a place where the staff knows a lot of the customers (or at least the Latino customers), so you might feel a bit like a persona non grata upon entry. However, they'll probably will warm up to you after a few minutes. While I somewhat enjoyed my stew, I really enjoyed my margaritas more. Since I'm still new to the area, I might check out some other Latin/Dominican restaurants before circling back around this restaurant.

It is typical of Spanish flavors, heavily relying on high-end cured meats and cheeses, and classics such as croquetas. There is something very special that goes into tapas because its suppose to satisfy you based on good taste over quantity. Large shrimp in a generous skillet of olive oil and slow cooked garlic slices and a iberico mac and cheese are some examples of how they elevate classics we are familiar with. We really liked that they learned into garlic and spice. We found dried Aji Caballero in our meal, great attention to source country. They have a very robust and generous drinks menu. Loved watching others not dining alone and embracing that share quality of the menu design. Perhaps it is not the best tapas I had, I would have liked to see a balance with lighter citrus flavors but maybe that was an ordering issue. At some point, since the menu heavily leans towards rich and decadent, its better to plan around that. Our waitress was amazing, she explained the questions we had on the ingredients and was on it with the refills.
