Pus Wow! Just came back from the beach and this place completely exceeded my expectations! Food was filling and so amazing! Glad to have a great place to eat Peruvian after a fun day at the beach!!!

Proof of vaccine required to dine indoors. Clean and friendly. We were served quickly. Ordered chicken, yellow rice , beans, avocado salad and tostones. All very good. Recommend.

    Causa ?!?!

This location does NOT serve authentic Peruvian food. They have spin offs! Pescado a Lo macho was not spicy at all. When we asked for rocoto they did not have! The Causa was missing olives, but had tomato's as garnish and the mashed potatoes had no flavor. The fried calamari was not peeled or cooked properly too tough to chew. The green sauce was mostly Mayo and oil, very watery. The rice was over cooked without much taste. But to top it all off the server was a young rude Latin man definitely needs courtesy when dealing with customers. Definitely will NOT be back If you are looking for Peruvian food please Stay away!!!

Picked up 3 orders for dinner, seco de carne, seco de cabrito and one other entree. They didn't label the secos so we had to call back as my husband doesn't eat goat. Both secos came with 3 pieces of bone with very little meat for $22+ a plate. The three halves of potato were bigger than the meat. They used to be good and give a good amount of food. Now the food is subpar and the amounts are very little. Not worth it.

A whole BURNT chicken was tough and hard to chew! QUEMADO no se puede comer!!

It was better when they first opened. As the years went on the quality of food has downgraded. Ate here more than 3 times still dislike the quality. I ordered a combo meal. How am I suppose to serve this to a friend? I had to order chicken from somewhere else so we would eat BURNT hard chicken! Whoever bagged this for a customer needs a talking to!

    "Skirt steak" but definitely not.

Food is actually very good and their green sauce is fantstic but the past three times I have ordered the skirt steak they send some cheap cut of meat. Very disappointing. $22 for some thin chewy steak is not good business.

    Plastic in my food

Tried la Cabaña tonight. They were busy when I walked in and I had to wait about 5-10 minutes just to order. After I placed our to go order, I waited about 25-30 minutes to get the food. There is only one person who was working in the front trying to wait on tables, answer phones and take the take out orders. He was running around but just couldn't handle it. They need to have more people. When I got home and started eating, there was a piece of hard plastic in my food. ‍ I get they are new but they already have another business in ozone park, they should understand how to staff a place. Also the lady in front of me asked for an extra sauce and the guy didn't want to give it to her because "they're a new business and don't have enough." The food was not bad but hopefully the get their act together in the near future and my next plate in plastic free.

The seafood was fresh, and the citrus was present, strong, but not overwhelming. Most of the vendors on the Rockaway Beach boardwalk concessions are overpriced... They either offer a small portion, or are just outright overpriced (think $20 for a crappy fast food style cheeseburger). I got the 97th St. Special at La Cevicheria, which included shrimp and fish, ceviche, quinoa, and causa, which is a Peruvian style mashed potato flavored with the same citrus as the fish (the causa tastes MUCH better than it sounds. The portion size was appropriate, if not slightly generous for the price. And I felt satisfied after the meal. As far as the location, there is nothing better for ambience than sitting down by the beach, enjoying fresh, delicious seafood. I cannot wait to eat here again. Also, extra credit to them for using biodegradable wooden utensils.

The vegan ceviche was so flavorful and the squash and corn was so tasty and healthy. The salmon one was super flavorful as well but I would probably put less sauce on it but super fresh for a salmon lover and reasonable prices. The food came out around 10 minutes and we got to enjoy the sun and feel good at the beach. Tables were clean and everything was well maintained.

The friendly employee checked if I ordered from the kiosk, and I did. After 5 minutes or so, my order was ready and I took it to go. The stir-fried beef was really salty (think it's the marination) even when you eat the beef with the white rice or fries to try to dilute how much sauce there is. The tomato and onions were great. Tons of fries (that I can't finish it) and a small container of white rice. Have to come back and try the cerviche and fried rice next time.

Dishes we've had include: - Half Chicken: $9.50; $10.34 with tax. The chicken and accompanying green sauce are above average; 4 stars out of 5. The chicken is flavorfully marinated and moist, and the green sauce has a little heat to it. - The Sampler: $16.99; $18.59 with tax. The most flavorful component of this dish was the chicken. The rice was on the mushy side. The ceviche was OK but the proteins didn't quite have the right textures. - Aeropuerto Special: $15.25; $16.60 with tax. OK; 3 stars out of 5. A mixture of thin lo mein noodles and rice with some roast pork, chicken, and shrimp. The dish seemed to have a decent wok hei, which was confusing because the chicken rice from the Sampler was on the mushy side. This dish would be much better with more proteins, and the wok hei suggests that the restaurant has untapped potential. - Papa Rellena: $8.95; $9.74 with tax. OK; 3 stars out of 5. Stuffed deep fried potatoes that seemed factory-made, instead of house-made. Atmosphere, Service, Other: The restaurant is casual, clean, and comfortable for dining in, with a mix of regular tables and booth-style seating. Those who choose to dine-in should order food at the counter, receive a number placard, and find a place to sit. Staff will bring plates, utensils, and later, one's food and drink; and will clear the table when your party is finished eating. Service is notably upbeat. Suggested tips are based on pre-tax subtotals, and start at an affordable 12%. Overall ticket time (the time between placing an order and having that order served) is reasonable. By contrast, Bayside Chicken Lovers often requires that orders be placed in advance to minimize wait time. The restroom is adequately maintained, but oddly pipes in music louder than in the main dining area. Simple Peruvian is a couple of storefronts away from Kora, which is a superb place for dessert afterwards.

It was a…read moreSaturday around 10 p.m., and finding an open place to eat at that hour was not easy, so this felt like a practical option on the way home. I live in New Jersey, and I knew that if I didn't eat somewhere near the airport, I was probably not going to eat at all that night. We ordered papa a la huancaína, a tamal, and leche de tigre, and the total came to about $48, which Its affordable by the area standards. Peruvian food is not necessarily cheap, so my issue was not mainly the price. My issue was the quality and the care behind the food. Its important to note here I am Peruvian, so I say this with real knowledge of the cuisine and with disappointment, not malice. The papa a la huancaína came with about four or five potato pieces, half an egg, one lettuce leaf, and no olive. Quantity-wise, the potatoes were fine, but the sauce told the whole story. It barely tasted like ají amarillo, and the flavor felt muted and commercial, like it was made more for cost control than for enjoyment. Huancaína sauce should have character, richness, and that unmistakable Peruvian flavor. This one felt flat. The tamal was decent in flavor, so I will give credit there, but it had only one slice of pork, no egg, and very little ají. It was a good size, but still did not feel worth the price. Again, it felt like the ingredients were being stretched too far. The most disappointing item was the leche de tigre. This is a dish that deserves much more respect because for many people, ceviche and related dishes are among the most recognized parts of Peruvian cuisine. This preparation did not feel delicate or authentic. It tasted like corners were cut. As someone who knows Peruvian food and has worked in restaurants before, I understand that using enough lime to properly prepare fish is expensive in the U.S. But that is exactly the point: if you are going to serve this dish, then do it right. If not, don't present it as something special. $21 for this? Honestly, I felt CHEATED. What frustrated me most is that this restaurant clearly has potential. The decor is nice, ready for selfies and Instagram pictures; you can tell effort was put into the presentation of the space. But to me, it felt like more attention went into ambiance than into the food itself. My impression was that the restaurant is aimed more at people who are not very familiar with Peruvian food and may accept a more mediocre version of it. For someone who truly knows and loves Peruvian cuisine, this was disappointing. I've had much better Peruvian food in less polished places in New Jersey, especially in Paterson. The decor at Mixtura may be prettier, but the food I had there was, at best, low-end mediocre. I ate it because I was hungry and it was late, and I appreciate that they were open when I needed a meal. But I would not go back, even in the same situation again. If you are Peruvian or very familiar with authentic Peruvian food, this may not be the place for you. If you are simply craving something nearby and are not especially focused on authenticity or quality, then maybe it will work for you. But for me, this is a one-time visit only. Sorry, its a NO-GO for a second visit.
