I'm a big fan of Pio Pio, but this place is closer to me and I'm happy to say that the food especially the rotisserie chicken is just as good. The green jalapeño cilantro sauce is actually slightly better because it has heat. So far I've gotten the 1/4 chicken, fried rice, and beans combo as well as the chicken causa or causa de pollo. Note that I was here a month ago and service was so horrendous I told myself I'll never come back and only do take out hopefully it will be better. Happy I returned and received impeccable service. Note that tip is atomically applied to your receipt and strangely they don't require signature not that it matters because the food is extremely affordable. Glad to see this restaurant doing well recently! Absolutely delicious food!! I want to try different things next time. Oh boy, where do I even begin with this restaurant? My recent dining experience was nothing short of a culinary catastrophe. I visited this place with high hopes, only to be sorely disappointed in every possible way. Firstly, the ambiance was like stepping into a time capsule from the '80s, and not in a charming retro way. The decor was outdated, with faded wallpaper peeling off the walls and grimy carpets that seemed to harbor a lifetime's worth of germs. It felt like eating in a time warp, and not the good kind. Moving on to the service, or should I say lack thereof. The staff seemed utterly disinterested in their job, as if they were doing me a favor by serving me. I had to wait an eternity just to get someone's attention, and when I finally did, they seemed annoyed by my mere presence. Their lackadaisical attitude was matched only by their incompetence. My order was late and "missing ingredients " as per the waitress. And let's not even get started on the food. I could use a plethora of negative adjectives to describe the tasteless, overpriced excuse for cuisine that was served to me. The aji de gallina was horrible and I sent it back and still needed up paying for the plate. The presentation was lackluster, and the flavors were as bland as a cardboard box. They replaced it with an even worse "tallarines verde con carnes" It felt like the chef had completely given up on any notion of creativity or seasoning. I've had better microwave meals from a convenience store! To add insult to injury, the portion sizes were laughable. I used to enjoy coming home to NY. I am stationed in VA and I always stop by La cabana before heading back to Virginia. I left the restaurant feeling hungrier than when I arrived. Apparently, they believe in the philosophy of "less is more," but in this case, less was just plain disappointing. As for the prices, they were exorbitant considering the abysmal quality of the food and the overall experience. I've been here a few times. It's a small cozy location. Initially the wait was long (about 40 minutes) for food, however I have noted significant improvement since my initial visit circa February. I came here with my mom for dinner recently and the wait for food was just about 20 minutes. The food is consistently yummy and fresh. There are several Peruvian spots in the area, but this place by far excels. The only complaint I have is that it's a bit chilly in the colder months. However, there are occasions when the food could be better. One of my favorite dishes from La Cabaña is "bistec a lo pobre". It consists of fried eggs, rice, fries and sweet plantains and of course, steak. The steak is typically well-seasoned and juicy. The roast chicken is also one of my favorites, especially when you get the special that comes with beans, salad, fried green plantains (or sweet plantains). The prices are inexpensive and the waiting time isn't too bad. Unless of course it gets super busy. The only thing they should improve on is the amount of servers there. I guess it was my mistake to assume that the place had a piece of chicken in it, like a thigh or leg but it came with some sort of breaded little pieces, maybe tenderloin. It was actually very moist and tasty, though. I think they need to upgrade their choice of "salchichas" though. I didn't regret my choice, it was a very nice combo and I could only eat half, it was so much. Hub had the tallarín verde con bistec. He devoured it and has not stopped talking about it since! The two things I didn't like were, two waitresses passed our table a considerable amount of times and never offered us the toasted corn. I had to request some, which they then served WITH our meals.
