Ok... not bad. Decent neighborhood spot on a corner with about 10 tables that can be separated to create more for smaller groups. I brought my family, including my developmentally disabled brother. He's not just challenged intellectually, but his personality is a challenge for everyone around him. The decor here is pretty cute, nicely done. One thing I want happy about though, is the noise level. I could hardly hear my family talk over the music and the muddled sound of everyone else in the place talking at the same time. The staff and service were good regarding my brother (and step mom who can also be annoying as hell)... full disclosure: with the two of them, we're a pretty high-maintenance group. I like their salad dressing and the chicken. My wife liked the fried shrimp, but agrees with my daughter that the Peruvian green sauce here is not one of the best we've tried (and we've tried many)... too spicy and kind of low on flavor. Fried rice was OK... but the maduros were dry (check my photo). My step mom returned the fried calamari saying it was too salty. We waited almost a half hour for her Tamale, and in the end, it was too spicy for her taste. The wife was happy that they had Michelada and sangria here. Dessert was pretty good too. I wouldn't hurry back here but it's nice that the neighborhood has some Peruvian food.

I am giving up Pio Pio for a long time. I found this Peruvian Restaurant in my neighborhood, i got their aji sauce the other day to try it out, i loved it. The place seemed very clean, wanted to try it out for dinner. Staff is very attentive, SMILING!, prompt service. Loved all of the food. Chicken is fresh and juicy, nicely seasoned. Beans had great flavor. Don't care about the fried rice, if they have any gonna order regular rice. Plantains, avocado salad, seafood ceviche, salchipapas were also delicious! Will definitely come back here again.

I've been coming here for years and the service is always amazing . I love getting the combo 3 and asking for a bowl and mixing everything into a higher quality chipotle bowl . the food is delicious and inside is very clean and welcoming . (:

Food is spectacular! The chicken always rocks, the seafood platter (JALEA) is a dream to see and to eat. The secret hidden gem. Here is the whitefish and the pickle onions. Everything else on the platter is delicious! The CHAUFA rice is well seasoned and flavorful! Not to mention how good the fried plantains are (crunchy). But the most important thing on the entire table is the green sauce. You could put that stuff on a shoe and I would eat it. It is absolutely spectacular! Service is hit or miss. Sometimes you get a great waitress. Other times you get someone who is just not paying attention. But the food is so good, who cares. Prices have increased sharply but that's just part of this ridiculous inflation we're living with. Highly recommend this place.

This is the best spot around for Peruvian or any Latin American food! We've been going here every now and then for years, and we're never disappointed. The #2 Rotisserie chicken combo gets you one entire roast rotisserie chicken (extremely flavorful and moist), salchipapas (french fries and hot dog slices), delicious, rich fried plantains, and a fresh tasty avocado and tomato salad, and a plate of fluffy yellow rice. The creamy green hot sauce is a perfect addition. We also had the tres leches for dessert, which was quite good and nicely plated with some raspberry glaze. The table service is always friendly and attentive, and the decor is really clean and tasteful, with beautiful Andean prints on the wall. Our favorite Peruvian place in New York or anywhere!

The chicken was delicious and the green sauce is the best!! We always enjoy the food here.

It was a…read moreSaturday around 10 p.m., and finding an open place to eat at that hour was not easy, so this felt like a practical option on the way home. I live in New Jersey, and I knew that if I didn't eat somewhere near the airport, I was probably not going to eat at all that night. We ordered papa a la huancaína, a tamal, and leche de tigre, and the total came to about $48, which Its affordable by the area standards. Peruvian food is not necessarily cheap, so my issue was not mainly the price. My issue was the quality and the care behind the food. Its important to note here I am Peruvian, so I say this with real knowledge of the cuisine and with disappointment, not malice. The papa a la huancaína came with about four or five potato pieces, half an egg, one lettuce leaf, and no olive. Quantity-wise, the potatoes were fine, but the sauce told the whole story. It barely tasted like ají amarillo, and the flavor felt muted and commercial, like it was made more for cost control than for enjoyment. Huancaína sauce should have character, richness, and that unmistakable Peruvian flavor. This one felt flat. The tamal was decent in flavor, so I will give credit there, but it had only one slice of pork, no egg, and very little ají. It was a good size, but still did not feel worth the price. Again, it felt like the ingredients were being stretched too far. The most disappointing item was the leche de tigre. This is a dish that deserves much more respect because for many people, ceviche and related dishes are among the most recognized parts of Peruvian cuisine. This preparation did not feel delicate or authentic. It tasted like corners were cut. As someone who knows Peruvian food and has worked in restaurants before, I understand that using enough lime to properly prepare fish is expensive in the U.S. But that is exactly the point: if you are going to serve this dish, then do it right. If not, don't present it as something special. $21 for this? Honestly, I felt CHEATED. What frustrated me most is that this restaurant clearly has potential. The decor is nice, ready for selfies and Instagram pictures; you can tell effort was put into the presentation of the space. But to me, it felt like more attention went into ambiance than into the food itself. My impression was that the restaurant is aimed more at people who are not very familiar with Peruvian food and may accept a more mediocre version of it. For someone who truly knows and loves Peruvian cuisine, this was disappointing. I've had much better Peruvian food in less polished places in New Jersey, especially in Paterson. The decor at Mixtura may be prettier, but the food I had there was, at best, low-end mediocre. I ate it because I was hungry and it was late, and I appreciate that they were open when I needed a meal. But I would not go back, even in the same situation again. If you are Peruvian or very familiar with authentic Peruvian food, this may not be the place for you. If you are simply craving something nearby and are not especially focused on authenticity or quality, then maybe it will work for you. But for me, this is a one-time visit only. Sorry, its a NO-GO for a second visit.

They had just opened so the place was still a little chilly. They sat us under the heater so we could stay warm. We immediately got some menus and placed our orders. The food came out relatively quickly. I got the quarter chicken and tried an emoliente, a traditional Peruvian drink. The chicken was a little dry but the green sauce really helped. I really like that sauce. I can do shots of that all day. It's creamy with just the right amount of heat. The skin of the chicken was surprisingly crispy. The drink was very unique. I can't tell you what it was like but it had a slight citrus, licorice, and herbal flavor. The liquid was a little thick and had a slight sweetness. I can't say if I liked it but it certainly warmed me up. My friend had the empanadas and another had the half chicken with salad, fries, and beans. They were both happy with their meal. Our waitress was friendly and came to check on us a few times during the meal. We recommended that our coworkers come here for lunch if they ever have training in the area.

It just doesn't make sense. The empanadas are pretty well seasoned, a little dry, but the sauces they offer on the side make up for it. The Tallarines with the bistec was pretty good, the potato could have came with huancaina but aside from that, I was satisfied. The pescado a lo macho was not on the menu but they made it for us and it came out beautiful as heck. It was a little oily but overall a 7/10. The chicha did not have any lemon in it but I survived. They gotta work on the pricing and the place would be really good. I spent like $100 here and felt a little robbed because of that. Good place, could be great. Decent seating area, nothing fancy.

We shared the ceviche mixto, arroz con mariscos, and a dulce de leche dessert with tulle and cookies. The appetizer and entrée were excellent; the ceviche mixto was incredibly fresh, and the seafood in the arroz was perfectly cooked, with rice that was well-seasoned and flavorful. Unfortunately, the ice cream in the dessert was grainy, as if it had been sitting too long. This could have easily been a five-star experience. I wouldn't have held the dessert against them, but the service fell short. When we arrived, the server was on her phone and minimally attentive. Communication was a bit difficult, especially when asking about desserts which weren't on the menu. We had moved a candle from another table because it was so dark, and although she noticed, she didn't offer assistance. After dropping off our food, she didn't check on us at all and remained up front on her phone. She did inform us ahead of time that the credit card machine wasn't working, so payment would need to be cash or Zelle, which was fine. However, when we paid in cash, she didn't return with change, we had to ask for it, and she then disappeared to the back to retrieve it. The whole process was awkward. When we arrived, there were only two groups ahead of us, and the manager appeared to be handling seating. As time passed, it became clear that my party should have been next. Instead, another group walked in after us, and I watched as a table was cleaned and prepared for five people. I approached the manager to confirm whether we were being seated next. He acknowledged that I was right, admitted he remembered speaking with me earlier, but said the table was for five people. Despite that, he still seated the other party before us. By this point, our wait was well over 20 minutes. I even confirmed that the other group did not have a reservation--which would have been the only explanation that made sense. I've worked in the restaurant industry for over 20 years, and this kind of oversight completely ruins the experience. It's the simple things that matter. To make matters worse, yet another party walked in and was seated immediately. At that point, it felt intentional. Rather than assume the worst, I chose to leave. I will not be returning.
