    Skirt steak tacos

The ambience is so beautiful. The and service is astonishing. I'm real impressed. We came during happy hour. We tried the skirt tacos and the fire and ice ceviche is to die for it's cold, but it's really good. I loved it.

While on the beach with my fam, I was hungry! I stepped out of the sand to the boardwalk and discovered this cevicheria -- like, WHAT??? I love ceviche! So of course, I had to stop by. There were a couple of different ceviche dishes I could pick, but I decided on shrimp ceviche that was on a bed of quinoa salad. There was avocado, sweet potato, and huge corn husks that all tasted so fresh and delicious. When I finished, my belly was satisfied! And the price wasn't too bad either. It's a rather unusual spot for a boardwalk (in my experience), so I recommend!

Came on 4th or July holiday weekend - not too busy, really enjoyed the ceviche. Food came out fast, generous shrimp portions, and it was a really nice light meal after being in the hot sun (felt much better vs eating fries and a burger). Will be back!

Ceviche still excellent! I tried the Nikkei tiradito and it's also phenomenal- buttery and melt in your mouth. So craveable - I'm scootering there now!

Part of the boardwalk "food mall" that also includes Edible Island, Low Tide, Citysticks, etc. I got the ceviche mixto and enjoyed the addition of sweet potato and hominy that added texture to the seafood mix of shrimp, calamari and white fish. Service was a bit slow cause the person taking orders was the one doling out the food instead of the person putting together the orders which created a bit of a bottleneck.

Amazing find! Located at the 97th st section of the rockaway beach, they have several fresh seafood options. The menu is only about 6 items long so you know each item will be quality. After I ordered, it took about 10 full minutes of waiting as she was meticulously putting it together so it was very fresh. I would definitely recommend checking out this place! Who knew that quinoa and shrimp go so well together!

Took a break from the sun and got a delicious Peruvian lunch at La Cevicheria. My choice, called the 97th Street Special, included ceviche mixto (in my mind no other ceviche beats Peruvian, and this did not disappoint), avocado, quinoa, and causa. Everything was fresh, well-seasoned, and delicious. This brought back memories of great meals in Peru.

Delicious and fresh food option at 97th st at rockaway! Shrimp ceviche was my favorite, but everything is very fresh and flavorful. Friendly service too! Grab a beer at the low bar right next to this and get some fresh yummy fish all while never leaving your bikini.

Who knew you could have fresh fish and veggies at Rockaway Beach?! The spices & flavors popped and we inhaled everything like we hadn't eaten in days! Don't miss it. "Virgin" cocktails available or get your beer a few stands over to the left. What a meal!

The seafood was fresh, and the citrus was present, strong, but not overwhelming. Most of the vendors on the Rockaway Beach boardwalk concessions are overpriced... They either offer a small portion, or are just outright overpriced (think $20 for a crappy fast food style cheeseburger). I got the 97th St. Special at La Cevicheria, which included shrimp and fish, ceviche, quinoa, and causa, which is a Peruvian style mashed potato flavored with the same citrus as the fish (the causa tastes MUCH better than it sounds. The portion size was appropriate, if not slightly generous for the price. And I felt satisfied after the meal. As far as the location, there is nothing better for ambience than sitting down by the beach, enjoying fresh, delicious seafood. I cannot wait to eat here again. Also, extra credit to them for using biodegradable wooden utensils.

The vegan ceviche was so flavorful and the squash and corn was so tasty and healthy. The salmon one was super flavorful as well but I would probably put less sauce on it but super fresh for a salmon lover and reasonable prices. The food came out around 10 minutes and we got to enjoy the sun and feel good at the beach. Tables were clean and everything was well maintained.

I live in New Jersey, and I knew that if I didn't eat somewhere near the airport, I was probably not going to eat at all that night. We ordered papa a la huancaína, a tamal, and leche de tigre, and the total came to about $48, which Its affordable by the area standards. Peruvian food is not necessarily cheap, so my issue was not mainly the price. My issue was the quality and the care behind the food. Its important to note here I am Peruvian, so I say this with real knowledge of the cuisine and with disappointment, not malice. The papa a la huancaína came with about four or five potato pieces, half an egg, one lettuce leaf, and no olive. Quantity-wise, the potatoes were fine, but the sauce told the whole story. It barely tasted like ají amarillo, and the flavor felt muted and commercial, like it was made more for cost control than for enjoyment. Huancaína sauce should have character, richness, and that unmistakable Peruvian flavor. This one felt flat. The tamal was decent in flavor, so I will give credit there, but it had only one slice of pork, no egg, and very little ají. It was a good size, but still did not feel worth the price. Again, it felt like the ingredients were being stretched too far. The most disappointing item was the leche de tigre. This is a dish that deserves much more respect because for many people, ceviche and related dishes are among the most recognized parts of Peruvian cuisine. This preparation did not feel delicate or authentic. It tasted like corners were cut. As someone who knows Peruvian food and has worked in restaurants before, I understand that using enough lime to properly prepare fish is expensive in the U.S. But that is exactly the point: if you are going to serve this dish, then do it right. If not, don't present it as something special. $21 for this? Honestly, I felt CHEATED. What frustrated me most is that this restaurant clearly has potential. The decor is nice, ready for selfies and Instagram pictures; you can tell effort was put into the presentation of the space. But to me, it felt like more attention went into ambiance than into the food itself. My impression was that the restaurant is aimed more at people who are not very familiar with Peruvian food and may accept a more mediocre version of it. For someone who truly knows and loves Peruvian cuisine, this was disappointing. I've had much better Peruvian food in less polished places in New Jersey, especially in Paterson. The decor at Mixtura may be prettier, but the food I had there was, at best, low-end mediocre. I ate it because I was hungry and it was late, and I appreciate that they were open when I needed a meal. But I would not go back, even in the same situation again. If you are Peruvian or very familiar with authentic Peruvian food, this may not be the place for you. If you are simply craving something nearby and are not especially focused on authenticity or quality, then maybe it will work for you. But for me, this is a one-time visit only. Sorry, its a NO-GO for a second visit.
