While on the beach with my fam, I was hungry! I stepped out of the sand to the boardwalk and discovered this cevicheria -- like, WHAT??? I love ceviche! So of course, I had to stop by. Busy little ceviche stand in the newish food area of Rockaway Beach near 98 st - playland station. It was about 2pm on a Saturday when we came in. The set up of this place is confusing, and doesn't have a clear demarcation between people lining up to order, or picking up their food. I asked the cashier about a dish they had, as the entire menu is not in English, and he seemed reluctant to explain it to me. I ordered the diritito, which he said was simpler than the ceviche. I assumed it would be quicker to make than the ceviche then, but I then watched a bunch of people who ordered after me get their food. After then receiving my dish, I was surprised to see it was a bunch of thinly sliced salmon pieces and sliced avocado drowned in a salty sauce. It was not terrible, but way overpriced at $15 for the portion size and execution. Would not recommend nor return. read more

My best friend and I got the ceviche mixto (shrimp, calamari, and fish of the day) ($12) and tiradito nikkei (salmon in soy sauce) ($14) and they were both a delightful afternoon snack. The salmon was super fresh and buttery, and was served with half an avocado, which is pretty perfect if you don't like eating just fish on its own. Walking on the boardwalk at beach 92nd at Rockaway ... we came across this spot, small stand along with other types of food and drinks vendors. This place had awesome Peruvian food, mostly seafood, we had Tiradito, Quinoa over a potato topped with mixed ceviche and papa a la Huancaina. Amazing find! Located at the 97th st section of the rockaway beach, they have several fresh seafood options. The menu is only about 6 items long so you know each item will be quality. After I ordered, it took about 10 full minutes of waiting as she was meticulously putting it together so it was very fresh. I would definitely recommend checking out this place! "Have some fish after your beach day" This is one of my favorite stops after hanging out at Jacob Riis beach. Although this ceviche will not take you to Lima or Mancora, Peru, it can get you very close. The ceviche mixto ($10) is the most popular and your best best bet. They give you a decent portion and the seafood is pretty fresh. Actually, this ceviche prepared here is better than many actual restaurants in NYC and it is a better price than those "classy" establishments. It is not fast food as each cerviche is prepared individually and the food actually look like works up art, so there will be about a 10-15 minute wait, depending on how crowed the chefs are. Plus, it is better to arrive a little early in the day (before 6pm) because they may run out of ingredients and close shop. Just a note: this place along with the other places in this "food court" on the Rockaways do not accept debit/credit cards, so bring cash or use the shady ATM. read more

My husband & I are huge fans of ceviche and miss eating it beachside like when we lived in Central America (3 years for me, 29 for him), so we were pumped to find this place on the boardwalk. We ordered a ceviche mixto for $12, which is super reasonable as far as I'm concerned. As the name indicates it was a mix of shrimp and fish (as well as a few tiny squid rings) along with some corn, lime juice, and cilantro. The size was decent, but the flavor was underwhelming. The lemon overpowered the seafood, and there wasn't much else going on taste-wise. I looked for hot sauce on the counter to jazz it up, but didn't find any, though that could have been an oversight on my part. At the time there was only one (very nice!) person working the counter, and service was pretty slow. Not unreasonably slow (didn't wonder if she'd gotten out there to catch the fish herself), but definitely not quick, which in combination with the "eh" ceviche makes this a place I probably wouldn't come back to, personally. I see that it has a bunch of other good reviews, though, so perhaps I was there on an off day or should have gone for something other than the ceviche mixto. read more

Ok I am Peruvian and we can't get fooled by our fellow citizens regarding our own food. I was at the cebicheria and asked the classic cebiche. I was waited for 10 minutes and I got a very very tiny plate with a few pieces of fish and shrimp topped with lots and lots of red onions!! The flavor was very good. Very close to home flavor. No where in NYC, Peruvian restaurants serve that very very small amount of cebiche for a price that it is not worth it.period. As per one of the owners she argued " we used the best ingredients" Fine for them . Ask any Peruvian what is the size of a plate of cebiche. For the $12 price tag of this sample plate of cebiche you can get a very fair size of cebiche with good ingredients in any Peruvian restaurant in NYC Please be aware of the cebicheria in 97 street in Rockaway beach. It seems they want to get rich just during the summer months. Be aware. Food wise I will give them a 9 out of 10 but price wise is not worth it at all. read more
