The food was fantastic but the service was fairly slow. Our server seemed to have 10+ big tables including ours. There were many times that we didn't see him for a while as well as tables nearby us seemed to be looking for him also. It was surprising because it seemed like there was plenty of staff but maybe not enough servers. At the end of our meal, the bussers bagged up our left overs but we still wanted to order dessert. Was craving some homemade pasta & wine. Our server knew everything about wine and was very attentive! Ambiance was perfect, got to sit in a back little corner. Reviews like these are hard. I understand that places have off nights, or maybe the main crew was absent, etc., but my experience at L'Opera was basic. So basic that I would recommend a skip--- you can find better. Me and a work friend, named Darren, went to a local Italian Restaurant that was closed for a private event. We selected another restaurant but it was closed on Tues nights. The classics were out. The third option would be selected by the universe and convenient opportunity. The universe guided us to L' Opera- a place who I have heard nothing but good things about. But then I experienced it for myself- and well, the experience was underwhelming and, in a nut shell, have eaten that, done that. L' Opera is in the heart of downtown Long Beach. Paid parking is almost a must, even on a Tuesday night. The place was grand! Nice joint for sure, but, again, standard. It gave classic vibes of fancy, but not modern chic. D and I started with the Fried Calamari--- a standard in many Italian eateries. And for good reason, it is typically a crowd pleaser! But the one in L' Opera was not fried properly. It did not have that golden brown hue that ushers the eater to pleasant joy. It ushered me to underwhelming, disappointment. The crisp that I longed for, never arrived. D and I then moved to entrees. I got the special of the night-- the Seabass. Maybe I need to stay away from "healthy options" when I dine out, but this seabags was also underwhelming. Where was the flavor? Not sure. I played hide and seek with the flavor and it won-- I could not find it. I tried D's Chicken Lasagna and it was stronger than my dish-- but that is not saying much. His dish tasted like a classic comfort food- but classic can be eternal and classic can also be boring, in the sense of, like, I have tasted this dish before, so I kind of just know what to expect, so I am like enjoying it in a hum drum way. The lasagna was the latter. We were celebrating his birthday. and they brought a complimentary dessert.--- chocolate dipped strawberries. They were well received and were strong. Probably the strongest showing of the night. I recognize that my dining experiences have been plenty and thus I have a more demanding taste for my dining experiences. So this place is good, if you are satisfied with solid food, nice ambience. But if you know, what elevated food is, then go somewhere else. You'll thank me later. read more

The food, ambiance and variety of items on their menu makes this a great Italian restaurant. Staff is friendly but the dining service was excessively long. Our dinner took over 3 hours which is long and staff were too busy where our appetizer, bread and entrees took forever to get to our table. Parking is convenient but expensive and it's right across the street. If this place were more prompt in delivering food and service to the table then it would be a 10/10 read more

The food and service were exceptional tonight. From the hostess at the front to our server to the person keeping our drinks full, they were all so kind and attentive. I am writing this review to formally document an unacceptable and discriminatory experience I encountered at this establishment. Upon walking up to the establishment, I was met with visible hostility and condescension from the host, Claire who appeared to make an immediate and baseless assumption about my socioeconomic status. The host, Claire quickly closed and locked the door as I tried to pick up my food. I tried to communicate that I was trying to pick up my food, and I was completely ignored. It was clear from her demeanor and refusal to provide standard service that I was being profiled and treated unfairly--presumably under the belief that I was homeless. This type of conduct is not only unethical, but it may also constitute a violation of anti-discrimination protections under both state and federal law. Public-facing businesses have a legal obligation to provide equal service to all patrons, without prejudice based on perceived appearance, housing status, or other personal characteristics. I left the premises feeling publicly humiliated and degraded. I strongly advise the ownership to invest in staff training on implicit bias, anti-discrimination, and appropriate customer service standards. I do not recommend this establishment to anyone. read more

One of the best Italian dining experiences in downtown Long Beach. From the moment you walk up the stairs to when you step inside, the ambience is truly amazing. I came here for Valentines day weekend and it was a good choice. In addition to the ambience the food is phenomenal. We started with the hugest pieces of calamari that were a great start to our experience here.. I got the fillet mignon, one of the best well cooked pieces of meat I've ever had! The plate comes with some potatoes and veggies that compliment it very well. They had a Chilean seabass which I ended up also having a small bite of. Very well prepared and very flavorful. They have opera singer and let me tell you, he is so good the entire restaurant is captivated by him. Not sure if he works by requests or if you have to let the restaurant know in advanced. A special shout out to our server Jessica. She went above and beyond to explain the menu. She even helped us pick out things. She was fast and she was friendly. She checked up on us often. The resteraunt ambiance is nice, love the building. We found parking for only $6 right next door. Food was good. The main thing that kept me from a Five Star raiting was the fact that while we were dining we watch the manager go to every table in our section to greet them and chat except ours. It feels insulting to be passed over like that. Especially since we were there on our 15th wedding anniversary. The hostess did a nice job welcoming us. After we ordered our own dessert they brought out a plate of chocolate dipped strawberries. This is one of my favorite restaurants in Long Beach. The experience is 10 stars every time. The food is always delicious and the service is outstanding. We love to sit at the bar afterwards and talk to the staff and order an Italian margarita. The owner is often there and will always greet and speak to you. If there's something you like and you don't see it on the menu, they will custom make it for you We are grateful that this beautiful restaurant decided to rebuild after the destruction the riots caused. I have finally found a place and its only 15 minutes from my house. The SCALOPPINE PICCATA is perfect let alone the CARPACCIO CLASSICO...and then there's the Chicken Lasagna which is "DA BOMB!! I met the owner (Terry), immediately bonded thats of course because he's from the East Coast with the East Coast SWAGGER....LOL. Great Staff, great bartenders and great vibes. 100% recommend! It was such an incredible dining experience. Our family made reservations to spend Mother's Day lunch here and we were given a private room downstairs. The restaurant is beautiful and elegant. There's also a valet parking option so you don't have to deal with the hassle of downtown Long Beach parking. There was a preset menu and every dish was absolutely delicious and full of flavor. Our waiter was so attentive. Everyone had such an amazing time, especially knowing that dining out on a holiday weekend such as Mother's Day tends to bring on stress and subpar service. This definitely was not the case. The lamb chops were so good, the meatballs were tender and moist. they also accommodated a children's menu option by offering plain pasta with a red sauce on the side and grilled chicken. Another great evening with a party of 14 celebrating a BD. We got there early enough to order lots of HH priced drinks, Tito's vodka and wine was the highlight of our HH orders. Parking was a little tricky but we were able to get a street spot. There are some shady characters outside since it was late and the metro stop is right there Inside the ambiance is beautiful. I felt like they can hold wedding receptions here. We went with the chilled black tiger shrimp for the appetizer. It was pretty good, but we especially liked it because of how unique it is. For my entree I had the filet medallions with a glass of red and it didn't disappoint. It was cooked to a perfect medium rare and the white wine sauce made the dish. I'm not a dessert person by any means, but I will say, the Panna Cotta might have been the highlight of the night. Sweet yet refreshing bc of the fruit sauce. We will be back for sure! read more

We were there on a day when the fire or security alarms were going off in the building, but there was no fires or break-ins. It was just an unfortunate fluke. The staff were working on covering and muffling the alarm sounds when we arrived. Their plan was pretty successful and it was pretty quiet for our dinner. We could hardly notice the alarms!! How crafty! We got extra bread to take home because we chose to stay despite the alarms and they noticed how much I was enjoying the bread. Bathrooms: yes, beautiful, well taken care of. Ambiance: This is such a fun and classy restaurant. I've been here several times before and no issues with the alarms then.
