My favorite bakery in The Heights! It is truly such a delicious amazing bakery that I have no complaints. Well that's a lie, my one complaint is that I wish the mini croissant cereal wasn't sold out so often! But how can I blame them because their stuff tastes SOOOO good? I've been to France multiple times and let me tell you this place is the real deal! The space is typical of any spot in the city, not super big. Expect when you come there will be a line because they are that good, so prepare yourself and don't be annoyed! Service is quick and kind! I love how the staff recognizes regulars it gives off such a family environment. This is 1 of 2 locations. I wish they would expand!

A long line on a saturday afternoon after checking out the cat cafe nearby (its very cute). The line moved way faster than expected and all told we only waited less than 10 minutes surprisingly. The two pastries were absolutely delicious, up there with all the great bakeries around NY. This place deserves a visit if you're nearby! There is also a lot of seating and a restroom upstairs.
Obsessed with this spot - it's worth the wait to be able to enjoy one of the rose pistachio croissants but everything I've ever had there has been delicious. Don't sleep on the sourdough either!

The chocolate croissants are life changing. The best chocolate I've had ever, second only to the chocolate croissants in Paris. I don't even have the verbs to describe it other than it was amazing and I'm going to keep thinking about it forever. The chocolate chip cookie was good, soft and right amount of salt, however the tahini flavor was a tad too much for me. The inside is so cute and so is the bakery packaging. Servers are really nice. Come for the croissants and check your cholesterol after! Wayyyy after. I would not be surprised if a whole stick of butter is used on each one of these giant, flakey behemoths. My personal favorites are the raspberry almond and the Nutella almond croissants. They also have a rose pistachio croissant that my friends really obsess over plus pistachio financiers for all you pistachio lovers. If you're looking for just classic French bread, they do have those available but limited quantities so you better go early in the morning. To avoid the long lines I highly suggest getting here before 9 AM. If the line seems short that means it IS short and you need to jump on it immediately or have regrets. They are now also open for wine bar nights Wednesday to Saturday, which I have been meaning to try. Sounds like a really cute date night idea. Ladies, drag your man here (or figure out how to subtlety push him to take you). Vive Les Croissants!
I regret not ordering more croissants. My croissant was delicious!! It was soft and has the perfect balance of sweetness. I would definitely travel across the city to visit this place again. It's a small cafe but they have seating upstairs. Service was quick ! I'll definitely be back soon!!!
my French friend said the croissant passes her pastry check SO I RAN - here we have the pistachio rose croissant, sorry I didn't do plain but I just couldn't emotionally handle ordering that when beautiful most filled flavors sat next to it. - very much pistachio flavor with a faint aftertaste of rose in bites with the petal flakes. the pistachio cream was a thin spread out layer that when in every bite of thin pressed croissant. it was the perfect mix of a creamy paste and little chunks of crunchy actual pistachios. - the croissant was pressed flatter than I usually see but it had crispiest outer layer surrounding flakey soft insides, and it was almost like caramelized sugar on the ends - the cinnamon bun was balancing light and sweet. the frosting was much less sweet than you would expect on a bun like this and had a gelatinous texture. it was not cream cheesy sadly but a savory vanilla. the layers were a tad drier than I expected but the cinnamon flavor was perfectly dispersed and the crunch to soft inside was artful. - line moves quickly, indoor seating upstairs with cute windows and outdoor seating on the sidewalk... or just pop a squat on the curb or steps!
I'm upset it took me so many years of living in NYC to finally visit this iconic establishment. I've been to the pick up window in Manhattan but honestly, it's not the same. From how eclectically gorgeous the converted apartment to bakery vibe is to the delicious pastries, I'll definitely make a point to return here regularly. By far the flakiest and most buttery croissant I've ever had - easily one of the top 3 I've had in the city. We also got the ham sandwich which was also delicious - a perfectly crispy baguette paired with salty ham and butter. Highly recommend this spot and cannot wait to return for more! read more
TL;DR: I love this bakery! It's a great spot to spend a couple of hours / catch up with a friend. I would recommend it to any of my friends visiting the city. Food: I have tried their croissant, pain au chocolat, and iced vanilla latte. I've been thoroughly impressed both times (more so when I visited earlier in the day) as both pastries reminded me of those in Paris. They have a nice flakiness without being excessive. They're soft inside, and the chocolate inside the pain au chocolat is light enough. I wouldn't sleep on their coffee either: their vanilla latte is probably ranked in my top 5. Service: The baristas here are friendly, and they play some good music on aux. Service is straightforward: you get your pastry immediately, and they'll call your name out when your drink is ready. Ambiance: There is plenty of seating upstairs. I have not had trouble getting a table even though there's usually a small line out the door (it moves fast). Additionally there is free WiFi and a nice restroom. Great location for this shop too: Brooklyn Heights is lively and has many other cute shops and restaurants next door. read more

I drove all the way from NJ to Brooklyn to finally try L'Appartement 4F, and I'd say the trip was worth it. We arrived roughly an hour after they opened, and thankfully there wasn't a line. It was a weekday so I guess it's less busy. The bakery is charming, and since they have a few outdoor seats, we enjoyed the nice weather that morning. We tried several of their most popular pastries, starting with the almond raspberry croissant. The croissant was crispy on the outside, and perfectly flaky inside, with just the right amount of raspberry filling. It wasn't overly sweet, which I really appreciated. Next was the cinnamon roll. It was good, but it wasn't my favorite. Personally, I prefer the Radio bakery better. I like a cinnamon roll with a bit more structure and chew, while this one was very soft and fluffy. It's just a matter of personal preference. The chocolate chip cookie was excellent--chewy, rich, and exactly what you want from a great bakery cookie. On the other hand we also had the chocolate cookie that was very similar looking to the LU brand, but we didn't like it. To drink I ordered an iced almond milk latte. It was fine, but nothing particularly memorable compared to the pastries. I really enjoyed the visit. While L'Appartement 4F isn't my favorite bakery, everything we tried was well made and flavorful, and Im glad I made the drive to experience it. If you're in Brooklyn, it's definitely worth stopping by. read more

Came in on closing time and received the pistachio rose croissant and almond croissant. Both were delicious and the filling was dense! A little too sweet for my liking but still so good! Staff were super friendly even at closing time and easy in an out with no line! read more

You bite into the most TENDER, BUTTERY, and FLAKY almond croissant of your existence and wash it down with a RICH oat milk latte (the perfect shade of brown). As you leave with a heavy slab of olive focaccia, you bump into a matcha-loving, Birkenstocks-wearing, feminist-literature-reading performative young man who just so happens to be 6'2" with curly brown hair. You lock eyes. You share the bread. You fall in love. Ten years later, you're still together. You've adopted a rescue cat named Biscotti. Every Sunday, you return to L'appartement 4F. He still wears Birkenstocks. You still order the almond croissant. God-tier pastry. Life-changing bread. A healing temple of baked goods. True love? Optional. Would highly recommend going before 1 pm, they sell out all of their items quickly. We got here an hour before closing and they only had plain, pumpkin, raspberry croissant, and baguettes left. We ordered the pumpkin and raspberry croissant. Both were delicious! My favorite was the pumpkin croissant, it had the perfect balance of filling and croissant. The raspberry croissant was okay. It didn't have enough filling but the croissant itself was delicious and wasn't dry. The croissants were flaky and light. There is limited seating in the bakery. It was jam packed when we came on Sunday at 3 pm. We had to eat our pastries outside. Would recommend trying! read more

This bakery in Brooklyn is a super famous spot for its French aesthetic, amazing pastries/bread, and their viral croissant cereal. When I went, I got their almond raspberry croissant and their rose pistachio croissant, which were both pretty solid. Between the two, I did enjoy the almond raspberry more as the tartness of the raspberry cut the sweetness of the croissant (the pistachio rose got a bit overwhelming halfway through). In the evening, they turn into a bar which would be super cool to check out! read more
This place has such good pastries! I got the raspberry almond croissant. It was very flaky and very delicious. It was a good amount of fruit with filling. I was told the pistachio was also a very good choice people often get. The staff was very nice, lines can be long as it is very popular. I was skeptical about waiting in a line for a croissant. I'm glad I was proven wrong. The wait was quite a bit, but once we finally got inside we were able to quickly order our croissants. The lady at the register was helpful and polite. The space where you order is pretty small and a bit tight, but the steps to the left do lead to a small indoor seating space. If you'd rather be outside, there were a few tables on the sidewalk as well. The croissants we had at this place were deeelish. The croissants were flaky and crisp on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside, and the fillings were perfect, not too sweet and just enough of it. I can't speak for the rest of the menu, but you should definitely give their croissants a try for yourself. read more

I was thrilled by this bakery but want to flag something important. One of the workers behind the counter was wearing a political shirt. The political stance that their appearance took, I do not agree with. I will not state their views or mine on this platform. However, I will say that it made me incredibly uncomfortable as a customer. During this current political climate it is understandable that businesses take a stand against the injustice they feel in this world. However, those that disagree have the right to voice their opinion. My secondary controversial take is that politics and food do not mix and my chocolate croissant was laced with democracy. That's not something I'm looking for. Giving this bakery 3 stars because of the political situation but truly the food deserves 5. Would be open to having a discussion with the owner about their personal and political views. Thank you for having me. read more

Live in the area and there is always a line. Went by on a Tuesday morning around 930 am when it wasn't too busy. We purchased a pistachio rose and almond croissant. We took our croissants to go as there was no open seating outside. Almond croissant was ok, I have definitely had better. It would have been a nice touch to have almonds on the outside of the croissant for a little crunch. This gets 3 stars. The pistachio rose croissant was better in my opinion, but I don't think it's a) worth waiting in line or b) worth paying $8. I would give this 4 stars. Maybe I would come back here again, but only if there wasn't a line, and it would be to try the raspberry croissant. The guy at the counter said that was their most popular, but that it was on the sweeter side. Worth the hype? I don't think so. But OK if you want to blow $8 on a pastry. read more
Worth the hype! This cute little coffee shop nestled in Brooklyn and worth the wait in line. The wait was about 20 minutes for a Saturday morning and moved relatively quickly. Seating is very limited. Best chocolate chip cookie in the city! The salt on top was incredible. The cookie was crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. Honestly cannot think of a better cookie I've had within the United States. The croissant was excellent. It was airy and had the perfect amount of flake with butter. The smell when you step into L'Appartemente 4F is just amazing - fresh bread hits your nostrils right away. I don't think their pastries blew my socks off the way Radio Bakery's do, but their basic croissant is definitely up there. They offer paper cups of water at the entrance and they have decent amount of seating upstairs that was fairly empty at 11AM on a Wednesday. Croissant (4/5): You can really taste the butter and it's definitely on the crispier side. It isn't quite as fluffy as I personally prefer, but still had a good amount of layers and airiness. I'm often disappointed by croissants and this one is certainly a solid version. Kouign-Amann (3.5/5): This one unfortunately was more of a let down. Felt a bit underbaked and was much doughier than you would expect and there was a bit too much sugar that wasn't caramelized on the outside. Overall, if I came back, I'd probably give their baguettes a go as they smelled incredible. Otherwise, they're solid, but not necessarily worth going out of your way for pastry wise. read more
Now that Mah Ze Dar is no longer in the west village, L'Appartement 4F (just around the corner) is a terrific substitute if not better. The bakery is located across from Jefferson Market Garden. While there might be lines they go fast. There are quite a few different varieties of croissants and a few that is not the norm at other bakeries. The croissants probably have a 1000 calories but who is counting when you are trying to treat yourself every now and then. The baguette itself is more of a traditional variety with the exterior being a bit more bite to it, so denser. Having been here a couple of times for croissants as well as baguette they can easily be the go to place for both. Service is efficient if you know what you want so study up ahead of time. Note there is no sit down, so it's grab and go. Don't bother going to the Garden next door since food is not allowed there. read more
Buttery flaky croissants! I ordered the pistachio, raspberry and chocolate croissants as well as the tomato focaccia. All were delicious! The only note I have is that the chocolate was lacking in the croissant. It was deli none the less. For 3 items I paid $29.75. The ordering process is that you walk up to the counter, place your order and they quickly box your items and give them to you to enjoy upstairs or to take with you. I stood in line in ten degree weather for about 8 minutes. The vibe inside is of a small French-inspired flat. Very cute. I would go back. read more

Aesthetically these croissants don't look too special, at first glance they seem a little flat and wonky and asymmetrical, but man are they packed with crispy, buttery textures! Probably one of the top 3 croissants I have ever had, the flakiness was unreal. There was a 15 minute wait on a cold blustery Tuesday winter morning. I got the chocolate almond croissant and there was a good ratio of chocolate filling for every bite. The layers they have achieved to the croissant was perfection, super moist and yummy and well worth it! The interior is very small so do not expect any type of seating but the bakery itself has such a cozy homey atmosphere because it's actually a home! Great experience. read more
Incredible croissants and coffee. Was visiting from Los Angeles for a wedding in Fidi and wanted to venture out. Stumbled upon Montague st in Brooklyn and was blown away by the croissants. The ham and cheese was savory yet crisp and the seasonal pumpkin pecan was out of this world. Highly recommend! I also enjoyed my iced vanilla latte. read more
I am not the biggest fan of goat cheese but even then the ratatouille sandwich was excellent. The overall space is very cute and not super busy on the weekdays. I'll be back to try the sweet options, but if the bread for my sandwich is any indication, I'm sure they'll be great! read more

About a 1-1.5: L'Appartement 4F is a popular bakery spot with long lines to boot - we were a little nervous that most of the items would have been sold out, since we got there later than we had hoped for. Fortunately, they had all of the items still well-stocked. We ordered an assortment of: +a Croissant +a Pistachio Rose Croissant +a Kouign Amann Framboise +and, an assortment of little donuts Unfortunately, all the items were such a letdown - they just were not fresh. Both croissants seemed overbaked and were chewy; the Kouign Amann Framboise was just okay, but could have had more filling; the three little donuts were just 'okay', but didn't have distinct flavors and the filling was scarce. Staff were a little standoff-ish, and they really weren't up to answer any questions or offer any recommendations - why? There is seating upstairs, but the tables could be consistently tended to, as they were all dirty. A restroom is on site that is acceptable. +overhyped pastries +overbaked, stale croissants +off-putting staff read more

I only tried one thing here, but it blew my mind. The raspberry croissant was amazing - flaky and buttery, with the perfect sprinkling of almonds. The raspberry filling inside and the flavoring on top were not too sweet but paired so well with the nutty almond flavor. There is usually a line here, but it goes pretty fast, and the service is friendly. They are just a small window with no seating or tables. read more
