My coworker and I stopped here for lunch to try out some of their tacos. You'll order at the counter, seat yourself, and your food will be delivered to you. I ordered the chips and guacamole for us to share and I didn't like it at all. It didn't taste freshly made but more so store bought. For the tacos, I ordered the Mexican style taco plate (3 tacos + rice/beans). The meats I choose: chicken, carne asada, and al pastor on a corn tortilla. The rice and beans definitely didn't come out hot (lukewarm) and the meat (tacos) just wasn't good. The only thing I enjoyed was the sauces to top your food with and the fruit punch jarriots ordered. I won't be back.

I stopped in for takeout during COVID 19. They offer indoor, outdoor and takeout service. Inside is clean and the employees are friendly and quick. I got a black bean and cheese burrito and some chips and salsa. The chips were quite good and the salsas were a good variety. I enjoyed the hottest the most. The burrito was tasty and filling. Certainly would come here again.

Delicious!

I really was happy to find this place, it doesn't look very fancy and looks can be deceiving, but it's a great little local spot with exceptional tacos. I absolutely love this place and plan to be back often when I'm in Dallas. The Mexican Style Taco (Carne Asada ) was all meats and freshly cooked, my mouth could not stop drooling. lol If you want reasonable cheap food to go near DFW, that will fill you up, and a local Mexican style that's not exactly authentic, but Flame broiled style; this is the spot for you.

Carne asada tacos the best

Carne asada tacos the best totally recommend plus churros dessert omg definitely my second place to eat my tacos thanks LA TACOS

Way too creamy elote
Brenda S.

FYI you're not supporting an authentic Mexican or Latino owned restaurant. The name is also deceiving. I bought two tacos and elote. Tacos are a little expensive, carne asada tacos was at least flavorful, and al pastor was not pastor??? Corn was WAY TOO CREAMY more creamy than southern style cream corn. Anyway, my total was over $9 and if I wanted to spend that much I should've just gone to Torchy's or support an authentic owned taco shop nearby. Wanted to try out but unfortunately was not the best experience. Owner was nice but this might be a place for those who don't care about ownership, authentic flavor, and price. I can tell some of the good reviews are from friends

The food is AMAZING! Great service as well! Get the combo platter and the surf and turf tacos it is BOMB! They also cater if you want to bring this yummy food to your parties, weddings, events! Can't wait to come back and get more tacos!!!!

This spot is a waste of money honestly. We tried to be quick and local because we normally drive 30plus minutes to get tacos. We got two combos, one Chicken & one Pastor. Neither are seasoned and very dry for both. No drink was offered with the combo. Really a terrible purchase. Something similar to cafeteria tacos in a jail or school setting. Please do better. I would've went to burger King at the least if i would've known. All sauce were on the side.

I got couple shrimp and chicken tacos- I live in Southern California with a lot of taco shops. This place aced my taco flavor of Irving, Texas. Their tacos were delicious and I would recommend and or would go again. Now I know why this place is so good. While I was enjoying a little bit of the atmosphere, three cruisers pulled over for a dinner taco or whatever these officers ordered.

I had the shrimp salad and pozole, and Colin had the chicken brasa tacos. All of it was delectable. We asked for a spicier salsa, and our amazing waiter Daniel brought us this orange salsa that was probably habanero and SO GOOD. There are so many Mexican\Tex Mex restaurants in North Texas and Mexican Sugar continues to impress. My Overall Rating - 4 Stars (Atmosphere, Service, Food, Return) Atmosphere - I love the atmosphere at Mexican Sugar. The restaurant itself reminds me of Mexico inside and out, and the different types of seating (communal, patio, traditional, cool) will give you plenty of options. But in the evening, when Happy Hour begins Mexican Sugar will fill up with tons of patrons and good energy. 1 Star. Service - The service has always been good on my multiple visits. This is a Mexican restaurant, and the staff know the menu very well. If you're not sure how something is pronounced or tastes, just ask! 1 Star. Food - There's brunch on the weekends and traditional Mexican dishes (tacos, enchiladas). On my visit on a holiday, I went with brunch and the Barbacoa Chilaquiles. This is a traditional Mexican breakfast where tender barbacoa is layered on tortilla chips along with a sunny side up egg. The result is a fantastic combination of flavors, texture, and heat. Yes, it's a slow burn, and those of you who like spice will love it. I had to finish it off with a Mexican Flan as a perfect way to cool my mouth. 1 Star. Will I Return? - Yes. Honestly, I don't know why Mexican Sugar is not in my rotation of places in Irving. It hits every mark and I've never been disappointed. Yes. I'll be back. 1 Star.

Been a loyal customer of Via Real since the early 1990's…read more All of a sudden they decided to charge much more in taxes that I assume must partially be to offset what seemed like a nice "social hour" recently added. When we asked the manager about it, he didn't seem to know they changed this. 10/25/25 was 8.25% tax (including alcohol in the order). All recent bills were anywhere from 13% to 16.5% hidden in the "tax" line, not even itemized. I'm sure because they know most won't realize it. This may explain why on a Friday at 5pm (even with a social hour) the bar was empty except for one other couple. Not going to reduce the stars since I like many of the long-timers that work here, but whoever is running the show now should probably re-examine their decisions. #WWFD

We were seated in a private room which was nice but there was no music in there whatsoever so the ambiance wasn't as lively as it was in the main restaurant. We had some appetizers to start. The chips and salsa were great and crispy. We got the fried calamari (it's a Mexican restaurant so a little odd that they had this item) and it was decent. The guacamole we all thought was just okay. We didn't each much of it. We didn't like the ceviche; we like more of a citrusy ceviche and this one had a sauce that reminded me of shrimp cocktail sauce. For my main dish, I ordered the surf and turf which was one of the specials. It was actually really delicious! And it came with a big portion of fish and steak. The steak was cooked perfectly as requested as well - medium rare. Nice spot for a dinner! Great service too.

The inside reminds me of most of the Tex-Mex themed restaurants in Dallas. The FESTIVE colors, chairs & booth seating, bar photos on the wall. Service to the table was nothing exceptional. After scanning the menu, I ordered the trio fajita which is steak, chicken, and shrimp. I wanted to be able to pick my meat combo. I really just wanted the Chicken and Shrimp. Luckily, the Mister was able to eat the beef. They came sizzling! The Chicken was tender and the marinade was not over-powering. The shrimp was cooked but very fishy. I squeezed fresh lemon on it and it pulled out the intended flavor. I was not particularly awed with garnishments. I wanted shredded lettuce and maybe my choice of beans black or pinto. Nonetheless, the overall plate was good and I RECOMMEND for anyone looking for a high protein meal. The chips and dip came out first with both salsa and a bean dip. LOVED the bean dip as a counter to the spicy salsa. They did not have queso blanco but I know this is mostly a lower Mexico to central-America staple.

For brunch, though, starting with mimosas is usually a good choice. Here they use fresh squeezed orange juice, so the taste is good. I had read the negative reviews for this place stating that wait times and confusions with orders were the common gripes. And we saw why. There were a couple of items we had to ask for more than once before finally getting - and our orders did really take quite some time to come out. The time here dragged, even sitting at the bar because the service was slow. And the bar is usually the place for fast service. The food wasn't bad - I had the eggs and enchiladas brunch plate - and funny enough, this was the first time I found myself liking the potatoes more than the refried beans, both of which are common sides for this type of food. The potatoes were done right, while the beans had some sort of weird spice to it. The enchiladas were good, but if you order the plate with cheese enchiladas to keep it meatless, be warned that the sauce is still a chili con carne. The grilled portobello tacos were a bit on the dry side, funny enough, and the sides of green beans and spaghetti squash were better, also funny. This was probably my first and last time coming here, as it just wasn't to my taste. But come on down and see for yourself if you are in the area.

There was a time when Meso Maya was the go-to for upscale Mexican in Dallas. The culinary scene in Dallas has changed so much that it is not longer the case. But the downtown Meso Maya remains an icon and continues to deliver consistently good food and service. The restaurant still has the warm ambience and remains in good condition even after all these years. It was too hot to sit on the patio so we ate indoors. The interior is smaller than I remember. The restaurant still starts you out with complimentary chips which are strips, and a smoky, spicy salsa. it was great. I started with the a mescal margarita and it was excellent. The kid had Topo Chico and the wife had Prosecco. Everyone enjoyed their drink. For entrees, the wife had her favorite, the vegetable budin, which is like a lasagna. The flavors were deep and rich. She loved it. I tried the carne tacos and they were excellent! The meat was tender and smoky. The beef had been marinated for a wonderful flavor. Good quality with no fat. I usually avoid ordering beef at restaurants because I often get more fat than meat which I detest, but not at Meso Maya. Our server Luis was very good.
