Hugo's Invitados is a Mexican restaurant packed with a lot of flavor located in Las Colinas. If you know me I'll order any fish dish and I ordered the cobia (No clue what kinda fish this is but I was down to try.) They did not have the cobia, and instead a red snapper-- which I was OK with. The dish was absolutely DELICIOUS. I loved the fish, and the sauce and vegetables it came with. Packed with flavor, and I was licking my dish clean at the end of dinner. My friend ordered the brisket enchiladas and she was also pleased with her dish. My only complaint (as well as my friends compliant) was I wanted more, I felt my serving of fish was a little on the small side-- and I wanted more! Considering the price, as it is a pricier restaurant, I was a little disappointed for what I paid. Otherwise, the staff was friendly, the location bustling, the restaurant clean, and food delicious. I definitely can see myself returning to try some an additional dish and maybe an appetizer.
I was excited to try this place because I am always in the mood for upscale Mexican. Plus, I was especially excited because I hoped that this restaurant was associated with the Hugo's in Houston, which is a phenomenal restaurant where I had some of the best eating experiences in my life. Sadly, the two Hugo's are not associated. This Hugo's is located in an area of Las Colinas that I never visited before. The restaurant is very attractive. It is modern, upscale, clean, and very sleek. I liked it a lot. We arrived early and found parking in front but there is also valet parking. The menu is somewhat limited in terms of food--the drink menu is longer than the food offerings--but it was sufficient. It has the usuals--apps, salads, tacos, and then features. There is a lot of fish featured. If we were close to water I would have gone with a fish dish, but the fish we did have did not have fishy taste. Everything has an upscale twist. Our server Monica greeted us immediately and we started with two "Top Shelf" margaritas on the rocks. They were phenomenal. Too good in fact. I drank it like juice and was ready for another. This time I tried it as frozen and it was not nearly as good, exactly what Monica had told me. Monica was very attentive until a large group (15-20) arrived and then her attention was directed to them, which is understandable. But she sort of disappeared for us. We started with smoked salmon nachos. They were good and the salmon portion was generous. They needed seasoning though, so we added some of the salsa verde for flavor and they were much better. The kid had brisket tacos and really liked them. The meat was tender and very flavorful. She normally is not a meat eater. I had the Cochinita Pibil, which I remember from the Hugo's-Houston was fantastic. This version was different. Hugo's-Houston pork came wrapped in a banana leaf and was super juicy and tender. The Hugo's-Las Colina pork came on the bone and although it had good flavor and was tender, it was kind of dry, even after the chef poured some kind of broth over it. Overall, it was ok but I was a bit disappointed because I had a different vision in my mind what I was going to get. The wife had Red Snapper and really liked it. She ate it all and the fish was fresh, not fishy tasting. Her main complaint was the lack of something to sop up the broth that surrounded the fish. We had the Tres Leche for dessert and it was very moist. Overall, it was a good, but not great, experience. I like the touch whereby the chef brings out the entrees. The meal was not inexpensive, over $200 with tax and tip.
The lamb chops were good . The food overall was cold . Highly disappointed on the customer service . We had to take our food back and although they did remake the food we saw one of the host touch our food they had to remake . If a customer says the food is cold it's cold . She put her fingers all on it . Very unprofessional. The waiter was slow . Granted we had a big group so we get it. The ambiance of the place is cute and great for a good date night for drinks the food is not worth the cost at all personally . Wont be back . Maybe for a drink . But the food no .
Came here for a company awards dinner. They had great service and Aries aka AJ was a great bartender for our group of 80. The chicken breast was juicy and the pureee that came with it paired very well. They offer a back room for large events with a microphone and screen for presentations. Went here for a birthday celebration. If you want to try something other than typical TexMex, this is the place to go. Great staff, ambience and the food is excellent! The only restaurant I've found with Huitlacoche on the menu. I had a side with my tacos. Really good. The Wagyu Carne Asada was tender and delicious! Definitely check this place out. Pro tip, try the Cinnamon coffee with blue corn cookie!
This restaurants had one of the most unique decors I have ever seen! It made me feel as though I was inside a clothing store at the mall! The food was also equally unique and delicious! We tried the kale and quinoa salad and it was equally tasty and healthy!! Their chips and salsa were also amazing: you could easily tell the salsa was homemade! Will be back for more next time I'm in Irving!
Pretty decent food, but there were some misses. Service it was excellent. Drinks were really good too. The Waygu carne asada was overcooked. I would say well done when it should've been medium to medium rare. As for the salmon, it was a mixed review as some people liked it and others thought it was a little bit dry. We also ordered the appetizers, which were pretty good, the tuna tartare was yummy but the cheese and veggie skewers were okay. As for the dessert, we got the Leche. The darker chocolate one was pretty good, but the white creamy one had a funky aftertaste. Cool vibe plays seems very fun. Do but make sure you ask for the entrées and skip the Leche dessert. .
Talk about a swank little place! Everything about the decoration and vibe speaks to me and sold me on this place. Customer service was great - especially for a big party of 12. If you're not too worried about heat, they had their own DJ playing jams outside. The food was also not to disappoint. Yes I know... a little on the $$$ side, but the quality and flavor surely met expectations. Even the kids breakfast tacos came with 2 large tacos. If you're in the hood and wanting to show off to your date or just want to enjoy a fun brunch spot with your friends and ok to go a little over budget - this is the place.

This was our second visit - our first being before 2020. The place was just as beautiful as we remembered. Upscale Latin/Mexican restaurant. The food was just okay to be honest, for the price, I expected knock your socks off flavor and larger portions. I do understand they use the freshest of ingredients so that's factored in. Service was okay though there ended up being an issue with my bill which was quickly resolved. There are other places I'd probably choose ahead of this one going forward but definitely worth a try if you're interested! Enjoy!
Loved the service. Our server was attentive and nice. I enjoy the ambiance and the mannequins they are dressed up. The chips and green salsa were very good. The red tasted and looked like tomato soup. Sea bass: 5.5/10 for the price the fish could've been larger. Also needed a little more seasoning per the person that ordered it. Red snapper: 6/10 get a spoon because it's a little soupy. The flavor of the soup/broth was good. I wish I would e asked for Tabasco sauce and salt and pepper. The fish was under seasoned for my taste. Pineapple margarita: 7/10
Had a great lunch. The sauces were very good. We loved their chips and salsa. My mother and I enjoyed our lunch. The seafood enchiladas were good. I most especially loved the green sauce on the enchiladas. The Barbacoa enchiladas were very good and we like the sauce on those as well.
What a cute restaurant. It definitely has one of those instagram-worthy vibes. Tastefully decorated mannequins and walls... hard to describe. Will post pics next time I go. It was pretty crowded around 7p on Friday. Our service was definitely slow but our server was very nice and great at giving recommendations. I started with the Blueberry smash margarita which was very good. The cbd one was good as well but don't feel it was worth the $18 price tag. I ordered the Chilean sea bass and the fish was perfect. The slaw and accompaniments on the bottom were a little disappointing. They just didn't add to it to be a filling meal. The visit here was a great dining experience.
This is an Feb 2025 update to my prior review. This used to be my "go to" restaurant for when I have friends fly into town. Their decor is interesting, the drinks are delicious and strong and their menu is almost entirely gluten-free. I have Celiac Disease and this is one of the only local restaurants that I look forward to eating at. They seem to have unfortunately changed up their menu and eliminated the taco plates. They used to have amazing brisket tacos. Now, their food is really expensive and there are no tacos. They seem to have transitioned to a steakhouse menu. We visited on National Margarita Day so they had some drink specials. We sat on the outdoor patio, not realizing that none of the patio heaters had fuel tanks. Service was okay but we did have to go inside a couple of times to ask for stuff since nobody else was outside (pretty empty inside too). Please bring back your tacos! read more
A upscale Mexican restaurant that mixes traditional recipes, with a modern twist. The restaurants vibe is business causal. I could definitely, imagine a few business deals being finalized here over dinner. The service was top notch, as well as the food. I would definitely come back Cochinita Pibil- The achiote-marinated braised pork shank fell right of the bone. My expectations were high given the positive reviews and I was immediately wowed by the restaurant's gorgeous decor. Colorful, artful mannequins, and plenty of greenery set the tone for a lovely meal. Unfortunately, our drinks (Paloma and margarita) were much too heavy on the ice and a bit disappointing. Entrée selections all sounded interesting, and I opted for the Seafood Chile Relleno. The plate was beautiful, with colorful squash, peppers, tomato sauce, etc., but the seafood was nondescript...like a high-end lighter version of a breaded fish stuffing you'd find in a stuffed clam. And the watery sweet tomato sauce lacked the heat and richness I expected from Mexican food. This would be more successful as a light vegetarian dish served at a spa resort, but it certainly didn't justify the $42 seafood entree price tag. read more
Hugo's Invitados has unique decor including mannequins and a tropical theme. Presentation wise, the plating and visuals are 5/5. However, there were serious issues with the meal. The $50 filet mignon had a VERY large triangle sized piece of hard plastic mixed in with the vegetables. The waiter promptly brought out a new filet mignon. This time, the meat was overcooked. We were very disappointed that the manager did not address this issue. They offered us a free bowl of shrimp bisque, which was a nice gesture but the damage had been done. Our meal was ruined, twice. To add insult to injury, we were charged full price for the dish. Additionally, the chicken enchiladas were bland, the shrimp tacos were cold and lacked flavor, the quinoa chocolate cake was too sweet, and the tres leches was dry! We had high expectations, especially after reading the favorable reviews. Instead, what we found out is looks can be deceiving. read more
We stopped by Hugo's Invitados for a graduation dinner for my nephew. When you arrive, there is plenty of parking located in the garage or off to the side of the building. When we walked in, we had to wait a while for our table to be ready, even though we had submitted a reservation via Opentable days in advance. I understand we had a larger party, but it shouldn't have taken 15-20 mins to get our table ready @ 5 PM when the restaurant is practically empty. Additionally, when we sat down the server proceeded to tell us that we could only have 1 bill to make it easier with the party size which doesn't make sense. You can easily separate checks out in a electronic point of sale system, especially with a 20% auto-gratuity already being added to the bill. Next, the other server on the table tried to have us order pretty quickly when we sat down and even said he needed us to place our orders so the kitchen can get moving. I didn't know that we were on the kitchen's timeline. Also, we asked the server to repeat the specials of the day, and he said under his breath that he already said that and then proceeded to repeat the specials. This is terrible customer service and just common sense not common to do, especially with the large table size. When I ordered my drink, I asked for a recommendation but then decided to ordered a different drink. The server proceeded to tell me that this drink wasn't what I'm looking for and I should order a different drink instead. Honestly, I don't mind paying more for a drink, but I am the customer and am going to order what I want. Next, we ordered our food and the wait staff barely came back to check on us. My salsa container stayed empty for over 20 mins and when I asked the server for extra salsa he said I'll get it, but then forgot. When the food arrived (I had ordered the Wagyu Carne Asada), I had asked for the steak to be cooked medium rare, but this was cooked closer to well done. I sent the food back and the server asked me specifically what was wrong with the food after I clearly said the steak was over cooked. The food was remade and the server asked me to cut into the steak, tell me to cut into the middle (about 3 times, very rudely). To be honest, the food was good, but the service was one of the worst I've ever experienced. I don't think I would return to Hugo's Invitados as there so many problems that shouldn't have happened and maybe the service was so bad since gratuity was already guaranteed, I'm not sure. read more

If we lived in the area, I know we'd go back. It's so beautifully decorated, giving off an artsy vibe. Our server was really nice, especially after one of our orders was incorrect. He misunderstood my shared order, but it was corrected right away. Hugo's Plate is shareable dish with chilaquiles, cochinita pibil, chicken and beef. The way the meat fell off the bone, the flavor of the sauces, the texture of each meat - all impeccable. I would absolutely order it again if someone wanted to share it, maybe even a third person. read more

Checked out Hugo's Invitados for the first time, and unfortunately, poor service from one of the waiters negatively impacted the whole experience. This was extra unfortunate because we were there to celebrate my nephew graduating high school. I don't use the word "aggressive" lightly, but the server was pretty aggressive in trying to get us all to order the most expensive items on the menu and also aggressive with trying to get us to order as quickly as possible, even though we kept explaining that it was our first time dining there and we needed a bit more time to decide. He had walked through the off-menu specials, and when we asked a question about what one of them was he rudely muttered under his breath, "I already said that." The constant eye rolls from him through the entire dinner also didn't really help. It was definitely such a bummer because the vibes inside the restaurant itself was nice. On the food - I ordered the red snapper. It was pretty good but a bit overpriced for what you get ($35 for just the fish with no sides). read more
Atmosphere is very cute for a date night or group gathering. Service was 10/10. Depending on what you order can be a hit or miss. The salmon was delicious with a tad of spice, the chicken with lemongrass rice was so good if you like sweet and savory mix. The market fish was a branding and it was so salty I sent it back. The chef came to speak with me about it and I ordered the Chilean sea bass it was better, did not love it but the flavors are very unique and if you are into that very much worth a try. I would go back to try other things on the menu. read more

Came here as a party of 8 for a double birthday celebration. Everything I tried: Brussels sprouts with chorizo - the sprouts were harder than they should have been and there was not enough chorizo/it was too finely crumbled to really eat with the sprouts. Elote - holy moly, this was good. Sweet, spicy, creamy, addictive good. Wagyu carne asada - surprisingly mediocre. I expected far more wow from a steak here considering the care they give to everything else. The enchilada and pearl onion guiso were great though. Chipotle shrimp tacos - these might be the best shrimp tacos I've ever had. And I am a big fan of something simple like this being done so very right. Rice and black beans were also awesome. Pork tomahawk - WOW, this was amazing, and the star of the night. Everyone was picking off shreds of the meat by the end. Crazy good. Seafood enchiladas - phenomenal. You can taste every bit of the seafood mix and the ancho salsa really gives it the right punch. Also had the complimentary baked-not-fried tortilla chips and salsas. I did not like the red. It was warm and had no tang. But the green! This was not like any other green salsa I've ever had. I could have drank it by the cupful. Almost not joking. I also asked her to bring me whatever other really spicy salsas they make and she brought me one arbol and one habanero. So good! Ask for these if you like the heat! Also also recommend any of the specialty margaritas. We had a variety at our table and they were all stuningly good. 4.5 stars rounded up because this is overall just an incredibly lovely restaurant with super knowledgeable and friendly service and creative, well executed food. I have already recommended it to friends and I will definitely return myself! read more
I've actually been here a couple of times! Drinks are really good, food is also good but a pretty high price point (Tacos / enchilada start around $18 and everything goes up from there). Very loud restaurant and I wish they would do something to being the noise level down. Servers are decently attentive and always been friendly / able to provide good options! We made a reservation on Yelp and were seated immediately upon arrival to the restaurant. read more

I have been to Hugos a few times now. It is conveniently located to the hotel I stay at when I am in town. They have a great menu and a full bar. Inside is really cool. Interesting decor, but I like it (I posted pictures). The food is typically very good but service is mediocre at best. During my last visit we had terrible service. They were obviously short staffed. It was really unfortunate. Rather than seating all sections and taking all the reservations they should have cut the tables they could not support, but they didn't. Instead everyone waited. Ad waiting 90 minutes we finally asked where our meal was. The manager came out and tried to make it right. The meal came out and everyone food was cold. It was terrible. Our spokesperson for the table called the manager over again and told him about the meals. He made it right by having everything remade. The turnaround was much quicker. The manager was very apologetic and admitted there was only 1 cook. Again, manage the flow and close tables so you don't have disappointed customers. We have not been back since that experience. I am sure we will be back because the food is enjoyable - just going to give them time. read more

The atmosphere was great. Very chic and feels high end. The service is also wonderful. Not over friendly, but an elegant and composted type of service. Everything is so fresh. My husband ordered orange juice and it was freshly squeezed from the bar. Very refreshing and tasty. I thought the seafood enchiladas were good. I wouldn't go out of my way to order it again, but it wasn't bad. My one gripe was that every water glass we got was dirty. There was a little ring close to the top of all three glasses. At first I thought they were just scratches, but then when I scratched it, the stuff started to come off. read more

We took my husband for his birthday dinner. He wanted to go somewhere with various tequilas. The environment was perfect and a very nice setup. Pros: staff is very helpful. The food is good but nothing to brag about. A bit on the pricey side. The margaritas are really good. I would only go for the margaritas. read more

Hugo's has been on my list for some time now but i just haven't been able to make it out to the Irving area to give it a try until recently. Marco was our bartender and did an amazing job taking care of us. He even introduced me to one of my new favorite tequilas, Socorro! The restaurant is beautiful. I loved seeing all the Christmas decor and mannequins decked out. The food is very fresh, organic, and full of flavor! This place is over hyped and over priced. The one star reflects the drink I had--the top shelf margarita--but that is the only positive thing I have to say. I went to celebrate a birthday there and was so underwhelmed. The staff was slow and it almost felt like our waiter forgot about us. I had to remind him multiple times about my drink. We ordered the chili relleno and lamb chops and it was so disappointing. The chili relleno was covered in so much sauce that it was mushy and bland. The lamb chops were overcooked and rubbery. For how expensive this place is, you'd think they'd pay more attention to the quality of output from the kitchen. Awkwardly enough, the table next to us sent back a bunch of their food and the complimentary dessert they were offered. Because of this, when we were offered dessert, we decided to skip. We left hungry and underwhelmed. We crossed the street to go to another restaurant where we ran into the same people who sent their food back! Go for the drinks. Not for the food. read more
We were in the area and decided to stop in for lunch at Hugo's. Upon entering the restaurant I loved the eclectic décor! The entire restaurant was lively and full of people. To share we started with the Veracruz Tuna Tartare- house-cured ahi tuna, olive-tomato vinaigrette, capers, grape tomato, & avocado-flavorful and tasty! For my entrée I decided on the Wagyu Carne Asada-ancho chile-marinated wood-grilled wagyu flap sirloin with poblano rajas enchilada & pearl onion guiso. Also ordered (not pictured) was the Pork Tomahawk-all-natural mulato chile-marinated pork tomahawk, sautéed swiss chard-corn salad, yellow tomato coulis, & serrano chile oil. This place is great!! We went on a busy Valentine's Day evening and they did a great job keeping up with the rush and brought our food and drinks out in a timely manner! Our server was mostly attentive and checked on us periodically! The drinks were pretty good! Average price for a more upscale place! The food was very decently priced for the quality we got! My favorite out of the three things we ordered were the seafood enchiladas! They were flavorful and full of seafood! I got double rice and I preferred the green chili rice! The smoked salmon nachos were definitely a miss! It tasted like canned tuna and there wasn't much of it but it was still alright. Overall, I would like to come back to try other things. The juices were absolutely amazing. We ordered the blueberry lemonade and pineapple lemonade. While the pineapple lemonade was good indeed, the blueberry lemonade was beyond amazing. The food unfortunately did not hit the mark: - The crackling pollo was tender but lacked flavor. - The wagyu carne asada was mediocre and somewhat sweet. - The Brussels sprouts with Turkey bacon were also sweet. We were seated outside so the view was nice. Our server was very nice and friendly, but service was very slow. Thus, the juice and the views were the only stars of the night, which is why it is unlikely we will be dining here again. read more
Last weekend I flew to Dallas to visit friends. My first stop for dinner was Hugo's Invitados. We arrived just after 6 PM on a Friday, and it was pretty quiet. The first thing I noticed is that the staff was very friendly. I came straight from the airport and was carrying my suitcase. They helped me carry it up the stairs and also found an out of the way place to put it during dinner. The restaurant has a modern, open feel and has a trendy atmosphere. The bar looked cool and had some modern artwork surrounding. I was surprised that the restaurant didn't start to fill up until after 7 PM or so, as it seems like a fun happy hour spot. Service was pretty good. It was very good at first, though trailed off a bit as things got busier. I had their traditional margarita and their mezcal margarita. Both were quite good. I also liked the chips and salsa. There were two kinds of salsa, and the chips had a crispy texture that I liked. They were different than your traditional tortilla chips. For dinner, I chose the seafood enchiladas. They were served with black beans and rice, and the portion was generous. I thought they was also very good, though the red sauce wasn't my favorite. I think a different sauce would have made them better and allowed the seafood flavor to stand out a bit more. All in all, it is a fun place to go with good food and drinks! read more
Heading across DFW to catch a concert and wanted to try a new restaurant. I picked an area 1/2 way to my destination and settled on a restaurant that I've had bookmarked for a year or so. I made a reservation, although early at 5:30, I wanted to make sure I didn't have to wait so as not to throw my evening's timing off. Arriving at the multi-use area of offices, hotels, and restaurants, I quickly found free convenient parking. A short stroll and I was at the hostess stand. Now, it had just come a big summer thunderstorm and the sun was back out. So, Humidity was outta sight and steamy. After telling the Hostess(plural) I had a reservation. They looked at the seating chart, whispered a little, looked, pointed then ask me, Do you want to sit outside? I had already determined that was not an option. Hot Sauna, Not! No one else was out there. It was then I looked around and realized the place was packed. Finally, they led me to a less than desirable seat but, I was inside and ready to eat. The place is really lovely. Well designed and interesting. Although, it is loud so, if you want to converse, maybe another place. I am never in a hurry when dining out. So, the speed with which a waitress/waiter shows up is inconsequential to me. Actually, I prefer a delay. A runner delivered some unique in-house made chips and salsas to our table as we perused the drink options. They have an emphasis on Tequila as evidenced by the extensive list of available shots and mixed choices. Occasionally im seduced by this but usually opt for the traditional margarita. One of my yardsticks for a restaurant is their basic drink. It should be stout, flavorful, and well prepared. In the case of the house margarita, I ordered tonight it was none of those. On the weak side, not enough ice, and a little watery tasting. Strike one. In addition, I ask for no salt and was served with salt. This was a waitress issure which she didn't spot. The waitress also did not bring my salad out with my entree, until I asked 1/2 way thru my meal. Strike two for service{or lack there of. Finally, the espresso ordered with dessert was fantastic but, there was no offer of sugar, etc with it. In addition, it was brought out way before the chocolate cake making it strike three for the server. She really isn't qualified to provide service at this level restaurant. The food Octopus a la Parrilla-Ancho marinated and wood-grilled Octopus. Roasted Pablano Mash, Grilled Red Onion Shells with Milpa Tomatillo Sauce. Exceptional. Perfectly cooked and stunningly presented. A solid 4 stars from the appetizer menu. Red Snapper- Skin on Pan Seared with Lump Crab Meat, Squash Blossoms, Chayote, Mango, and Fingerling Potatoes in a white wine Chilpachole sauce. Seductive. Perfectly prepared fish and understated but deliciously nuanced sauce. Side Salad-They raised the bar on the side salad here. Tiny cubes of apple and cucumber made all the difference. Desert-perfectly pulled espresso and cut above Quina Chocolate Cake heavy on the heavenly Ganache! Over all I would say if you are in the area...Go. Otherwise there are better options. read more
