TRUFFLE GNOCCHI morel / chanterelle / beurre blanc / chives / black truffle
    Robert M.

Was here once before and the experience was much better than tonight. In trying to figure out what was different, I thought of a few things: - no live music tonight which was a nice touch last time. - booths starting to show signs of wear and are STILL as uncomfortable as I recall from before. I'm very tall but the seats seemed low and far from the table. Also the far sides of the booth closest to the window go up high near what should be an unobstructed, beautiful view of the pool area / lake. - food (street corn hummus and truffle gnocchi) were also not as impressive as whatever it was I had eaten before. The hummus was very cold, runny and just smeared on a plate with some very dry pieces of pita; thickening it up and maybe serving it in a bowl might help since the taste itself was not bad. The gnocchi was rich (I was warned) but felt a bit too greasy and (I assume) not house made. Again, taste was decent enough. - It didn't help that there was what appeared to be a large wedding party parading thru the lobby area beating on drums and other percussive instruments throughout most of dinner. - the validated parking is nice although tonight the exit gate was open so it didn't matter. I assume the machine must've been broken since two days before when I tried to exit, it was having issues and I had to wait in a long line of cars struggling to figure out how to pay / exit. Based on that earlier experience it seems like this hotel needs a better way to handle the parking. Maybe have people pay and validate the ticket in the lobby? Or just get an easier, more intuitive system that is reachable from the car--it was a stretch! - the place has potential but it seems to be aging into "just another hotel lobby bar". The service however from both the hostess and waiter was excellent.

For being in a hotel the food is so good! It's great because I travel for a living and I love not having to leave the Hotel. Regardless, even though you may not be staying at the Omni hotel, this is a great restaurant!

The food and service were great. Very relaxed atmosphere and attentive bartenders. The view of the pool and lake from the window booths are very nice.

Window seat- stupid booth design choice.

Food was ok, but the main reason we came for lunch was for a view of the lake. The benches at the window have these very illogically placed privacy sides which completely block the view. The lake is behind this- kind of defeats the purpose of having a window seat.

My Overall Rating - 5 Stars (Atmosphere, Service, Food, Return) Atmosphere - Monaco is one of the prettiest restaurants in all of DFW. Dark wood and dark blue seating invite you in. The bar is stunning, with back lighting highlighting their drinks. There's also an outdoor seating area, including a wind shield - perfect when the weather is nice. This is a great spot for a weekend date night if you want something outside of Dallas. 1 Star. Service - Everyone was very nice. We were never rushed, all dishes could be customized to order, and I never had to ask for a refill. Nothing but good people here. 1 Star. Food - Let me start by saying presentation matters, and the dishes at Monaco are great for your Instagram or Yelp feed. I started with the roasted oysters. I chose it because the description said the oysters are "topped with bone marrow butter". That, combined with the roasted breadcrumbs, added a nice crunchy and smooth texture to the delicious oysters. For my main, I went with the Salmon St. Harve. This beautiful dish had a perfectly prepared salmon. Soft and flaky, but with a crunch from the skin at the bottom. It was served on top of grilled asparagus and topped with a cream sauce that brought everything together. Delicious. 2 Stars. Will I Return? - Yes. It's not a secret that I love Water Street. This is an awesome area in the heart of DFW, and I'm so happy there is an upscale restaurant like Monaco that has amazing food. 1 Star.

They have a pretty good selection of beers and of liquors (I presume wine, too, but I didn't check). While there are "bourbon bars" with a wider bourbon selection or "gin bars" with a wider gin selection, they have an above average selection of each, and they don't charge absurd up charges for choosing the liquor you like. The bartender is very polite. There's ample seating at the bar, and you can also take your drink to some loungy-er chairs in the nearby part of the hotel lobby. All in all, a solid bar.

You walk in and the bar is to your right. It was about 6 and no one was at the bar. There was a group of guys discussing something over drinks in the lounge area but that was about it. The bartender came right up to my boyfriend and I. I told the bartender my boyfriend had never been to Texas so we tried out essentially every tap by sampling which was nice that he offered that up. After we tried each beer we decided on some options. The bartender went back to texting in the corner and we sat at the bar listening to the music playing in the open concept lobby/bar area We eventually took over the seating area that group was in because the couches looked more cozy than the bar. The happy hour advertised is not a thing anymore, they now have reverse happy hour from 9-10. The beers weren't too expensive as our tab was only $13 which I doable. The bartender disappeared from the bar for a fair amount of time which made me anxious because I used to be a bartender, I guess he trusted we wouldn't leave without paying. He didnt come check on us to see if we needed another beer but that was ok I guess. I went back up to the bar to cash out and that was that. This bar is good for a quick drink but I wouldn't probably go for a top notch bar experience.

It just feels very manufactured. The menu is varied. If you've read my reviews before, you know that I'm a Texa-fornian, so there are a lot of places in Texas that don't suit my palate (or my waist line.) I was easily able to find a couple of things that I would have enjoyed. Based solely on the calorie count, I picked the salmon with cauliflower rice. It was a little oily, but it was good. I cleaned the plate. It's dark inside, like a steakhouse. Not for me, but if that's your thing, you would be happy. It's clean the food's fresh and if you're a drinker, there is a lot of beer. I'm not a drinker. Maybe you're asking why did you even go? Someone gave me a gift card and someone gave my daughter a gift card, so we had to use them.

They're known for massively tall "yard" servings of beer, though I didn't see anyone trying one on my lunchtime visit. They do have a good 4 pages of beers on the menu! The place has high ceilings with exposed pipes lending an industrial vibe. The menu helpfully marks vegetarian options as well as lower calorie choices. I was impressed to see power outlets along the purse hooks below the bar - if you wanted to bring a laptop and catch up on work emails, it'd be possible. Our waitress was business-like and a little unfriendly, and service was terribly slow. The food was good. Free refills on our drinks flowed freely. I tried a veggie burger which was a bit spicy and oaty. I wish I'd tried a salad! Still, I appreciated that they worked with me on reserving tables for a large group all with separate checks.

Even though it was nearly empty, the bartender at the time seemed very uninterested in working. Even the manager who was so friendly the first time, giving us a tour and inviting us back, seemed uninterested in the guests. Thinking it was "just an off night" we tried again. Service by the bartender was much more attentive this time, albeit slow--the kitchen's fault, not hers. While she seemed to not know much about the menu--all questions had the answer of "I'll have to ask the chef"--she was friendly. No more Gigante Bean soup? What?!? That was a main draw! Place was pretty dead. Even though we were not hotel guests and they were aware of that, we were also charged a 20% service charge "for room charges only" that was calculated against full prices, not what was paid for happy hour. Hopefully that went to the bartender since nothing more was added. What started out as a place I was recommending to locals after my first visit, now just feels like any other hotel restaurant / bar where they feel they have a captive audience and don't have to try as hard. Unfortunately, "three strikes you're out"--we will not be returning.
