Been a loyal customer of Via Real since the early 1990's. All of a sudden they decided to charge much more in taxes that I assume must partially be to offset what seemed like a nice "social hour" recently added. When we asked the manager about it, he didn't seem to know they changed this. 10/25/25 was 8.25% tax (including alcohol in the order). All recent bills were anywhere from 13% to 16.5% hidden in the "tax" line, not even itemized. I'm sure because they know most won't realize it. This may explain why on a Friday at 5pm (even with a social hour) the bar was empty except for one other couple. Not going to reduce the stars since I like many of the long-timers that work here, but whoever is running the show now should probably re-examine their decisions. #WWFD read more

My husband and I were visiting the area and decided to give this place a try because of the great reviews. We sat at the bar on a Friday afternoon and were greeted by a great bartender named Edgar. He gave us a few recommendations, so we thought we'd go with his suggestions. So happy we listened! The sea bass enchiladas with charbroiled shrimp were fantastic! I absolutely wasn't expecting the depth of flavors. It was an amazing dish for sure. The charbroiled filet mignon was the star of the show however. We were not expecting such a great steak at a Mexican restaurant. The table side charring was perfect! Charred to a perfect medium rare with the right amount of seasonings. My sister and I went to celebrate my birthday.. She had never been and I was there many years ago. It was exciting for me is that they had a table set up with a chilled bottle of champagne. Imagine my shock when the bill came and we were billed 40.00 for a bottle that we never asked for or advised the cost and would have much rather had a different cocktail. We had an appetizer, a salad and an entree that we shared. The ceviche was fair, the salad was WAY over dressed and we very much enjoyed the seabass. We had shared everything as my sister and I are not big eaters, it was not because of the cost, as I knew it was pricey, but we also did not expect we would be billed for a bottle of champagne that we didn't order. We popped in for a random midweek date night dinner and were pleasantly surprised. Service was so friendly and attentive. The tapas appetizer is a steal for $16. Met here for a ladies night out dinner for a party of 8 and pleased to see how the restaurant is festively decorated for the holidays. Monday night was busy but not loud given the spacious layout of the tables. We had a great table in the corner near the private room. We enjoyed excellent, attentive, and professional VIP-level service and loved the wide variety to choose from on the menu, even for vegetarians. The portions were hearty, delicious, and beautifully presented on the plates like art. The special after-dinner coffee with cinnamon lighted up sparks was a delightful surprise as well as entertaining. Service - Upon entering, you're greeted with a smiling hostess to assist. Since I was here for an event, they walked me to the appropriate room. Via Real has dedicated rooms for events, and we had a dedicated staff member who made sure we had drinks in hand. All requests were taken care of. They were fast, accommodating, and professional. 1 Star. Food - Via Real specializes in Southwestern cuisine. It's not Mexican or Tex-Mex, but if you're fans of that cuisine, you'll find familiar flavors. My events had several items, but my favorite were the individual nachos. Instead of a shared platter, a single (large) tortilla chip is topped with chicken or beef and oven-melted cheese. It felt more like bite-sized appetizers than traditional nachos. At the bar, I enjoyed a decaf cappuccino and creamy caramel flan. You can eat at the bar, but there are also tables you can sit at. 2 Stars. Will I Return? - Yes. The food and drinks were outstanding, but the highlight was the filet that was finished cooking by flaming it at our table side. The smell was amazing, but the steak was phenomenal. I recently had to go back to Dallas, so it's my second time dining here (the last time was almost a year prior) . We had a much larger group this time (was around 5 last time and 14 this time). It was national tequila day- whatever excuse can be used to enjoy a margarita is to be cherished and abused. I got the fajita this time as well- delicious. Their guac is also very fresh and flavorful. Their sides are hefty and the tortillas were so soft and delightful. The ambiance is super weird in that it really looks like an Italian restaurant- a bit upscale... but it's Mexican food. We had a large family gathering (some parents ate there as children) and it was a wonderful, memorable dinner. Pre-concert dinner and a return to one of our first dates 15 years ago! Our server, Rafael, was amazing! And the GM also stopped by our table. He's been there since it opened in 1985! Rafael took the time to make sure our evening was perfect, he even took our picture at the same spot we had a pic saved from the first time! My server was Orlando who was very attentive and helpful, but there were others that stopped by to make sure my experience was good. I ordered the special salmon and it did not disappoint. We had not been to Via Reál in a few years, but had the opportunity to meet some friends their for a Thursday night dinner. The free valet parking is great as the lot in front of Via Reál can get crowded. But if you don't want to hand over your keys to anyone there is generally plenty of parking farther down the lot off Byron Nelson Way. We love the ambiance of Via Reál, it feels very cozy with enough noise to keep you conversation private but not so much as to require you to raise your voice to be heard. Which makes it great for a dinner with friends or business associates. Its also great for date night. The food was good, I had the Ranchers Special, Jane had Chose Your Own Enchiladas and we finished the meal with Creme Brûlée and Via Reál's special coffee. I had forgotten how much I enjoyed the coffee at Via Reál and the Creme Brûlée was perfect to share. Our friends enjoyed their meals and tried the Carrot Cake for dessert. Recently went here on a Microsoft dinner they are a vendor of ours so they were paying the bill which means that I picked the best of the best on the menu (would have regardless but free always tastes a tad better). The food was incredible, honestly -- I don't write reviews of places if they have bad food so that's a given but I will note it's very very easy to ruin lamb chops becuase they are so tiny typically & can over cook quickly however, Via Real did a great job keeping them perfect by the time they got to the table with incredible flavors & the value (although I didn't pay) was great for the number of lamb chops on the plate. Of course our team had to try a number of their desserts which on top of the already great food were the actual stars of the show! I would highly highly Caramel Cheesecake -- it's rich, perfect & tastes exactly how you would expect a caramel cheesecake would taste like. As for ambiance, this is a beautiful fine dining establishment I wouldn't go in a t shirt & jeans but I am sure you'll still have an amazing time. They've got valet parking & plenty of room to self park. George N. waited on our table, it was nice & all the food came freshly prepared. The dining area have great amount room & kept up very clean. The restrooms are sanitary & well supplied. George's prompt & constant service kept us well hydrated & fed. From appetizers to main entree; drinks were served & water topped off with care. Overall, I loved bc my wife & I had our sister in law from L.A. visiting on a working related visit. Great array of fresh Mexican delicacies & dishes. Seafood is fresh & cooked to perfection. The appetizer trio of crab cake, calamari, and coconut crusted shrimp was cold and soggy. It tasted like the items were pre made and sitter under a food warmer. The chicken/steak fajitas were overcooked within an inch of their lives, super salty, with weak sides, and only two freaking tortillas. My friend's seas bass was a giant piece of blob. Wow, I'm gonna say this place is super cool especially for a brunch on the weekend! You basically go in and all of the food that you can imagine is in this place it's kind of like a hidden secret that I just found out about after all these years of living in Las Colinas. The brunch ranges from the assortment of omelettes made right in front of you to all kinds of fruits that are freshly cut and put out along with salads of your choice! You can go back again and again and again not to mention there's some small sweets to choose from as well. If you love meat there it is it's all there from bacon sausage and more you name it's there! This is ideal for when you have guest in town and you wanna treat guest to a good time! Or a party, there's so much room in here so the guest can actually spread out and the ambience is super nice!
