One of the top indicators of poor customer service include long wait times. I waited a total of 1 1/2hrs for my food. Everyone else in my party and others around the table finished their food. I had to ask the waitress for my food. The waitress came back with noodles "saying there's 14 other people ahead of me so the rest of my food will be another 15 minutes" (which turned into another 1/2) I asked for the manager who knows me as a frequent customer. The manger apologized, offered a gift card and said that's all he can do. He then started providing excuses by saying we came on a busy Saturday, we were 15 minutes late for our reservations, and that's all he can do. I said it's my birthday and I'm the only one that didn't eat. He shrugged his shoulders and said there's nothing I can do, sorry. He didn't even suggest taking the cost off the bill just for my food. The containers were half empty anyway. I told him to keep the food and take it off my bill. I didn't take the $20 gift card because It didn't even come close to covering my total bill and I'll never go back to this restaurant. He agreed to take the half empty containers back and take the food off my bill. There were only 5 people in my party. If you subtract my order that leaves 4. The restaurant still charged the other two paying people in my party $14 a piece for a large party. This is a rip off! I asked them to at least take those additional charges off their bill. He said he can't do that. Unacceptable practices! I frequent this restaurant. The manager and staff know me and know my order due to allergies. If they provide horrible service to someone they know very well, imagine how they'll treat new customers. Totally ruined my birthday party!!! Was trying to decide between two places, and ended up here. We have been here before and liked the food and the service. This time the food was still good but the service and friendliness and showmanship you would expect from a Japanese Steakhouse was sorely lacking. What happened to the fun and the chef show? Chef was poor. Attempted 2 tricks and both failed but not as bad as his food preparation. Had 3 groups at our hibachi ordering various items. He started with the fried rice and served it, then started to prepare the entrees. It was at least 15 minutes until any of the meat and seafood was ready, by then the rice was cold and then he began the vegetables. No one could wait any longer so some started eating what they had. Another 5 minutes until he started dishing out the extremely raw / cold vegetables. Worst Japanese steakhouse we've been to. To top it off one of the hostesses came to our hibachi and told one of the couples that because we had 10 people at our table they were going to consider us a large group and put an automatic 18% gratuity on each of our checks. Some of us objected as we were 3 different groups and they made us a group of 10, but they did it anyway. I assume they knew none of us were happy and this was the only way to get a tip. This is our go-to Japanese steakhouse! They always have a clean facility, excellent service, and the food is great! They also have really great lunch prices if you are looking for an escape from the office during the work week. I would recommend reservations for weekend, but weekdays and for lunch I have never had to wait! They are also lots of fun for birthdays and other events! read more

Really nice ambiance that is clean with friendly staff. We sat at a table and I ordered sushi- the OH roll, Alaska and veggie. My husband got a noodle dish with chicken and beef. His came with a salad (ginger dressing) and miso. I had the jasmine hot tea as well. Everything was good, but nothing outstanding. We went here on a whim last night. The roads were bad and it was close by. We got miso soup and shared 5 different rolls. They have a happy hour deal with half priced select sushi rolls, edamame, and draft beers. The happy hour is listed on a board when you walk in and some of the servers didn't seem to know about it, so make sure you look when you walk in the front door. They have a ton of different sushi to choose from on the menu. We went with the 3 for $11 deal. The sushi wasn't amazing, but for that price I would gladly return. It was my birthday and the peson preparing the meal asked if it was anyones birthday i told yes it was my birthday and they never brought any cake or sang like they do with our customers that I witnessed in the past. What a fun event. Today, a 7 person group of us had a really delicious and well orchestrated meal at Kyoto Japanese Steakhouse. In the past I have not been a fan of these types of restaurants because I usually find the food to be bland and boring. Kyoto has completely shown me a the way it should be done and turned me in to a fan. The staff was very friendly and well organized delivering each course at our pace with great quality and perfect temperature. We started with a salad which was flavorful with a ginger based dressing that was perfectly flavored. The dressing from Kyoto was not watery like I have seen at similar restaurants. It was smooth like a rich vinaigrette . There was also a soup that was beef and chicken broth based which in my mind was the best I have had at any restaurant of this style. It was well flavored but not greasy or thin. The main part of the meal was done on the hibachi where I ordered steak and shrimp. Others ordered steak and chicken or steak and scallops. With this course you had a choice of steamed or fried rice and a vegetable side. This is where the fun began. The show portion was done in a very fun way without impacting the quality of what we got to enjoyed. I do not want to give away what was done since I am not into spoilers. But I can say that you will be entertained. Our chef was skilled and even through some tricks, cool stunts, and special effects; the quality of the food did not suffer. In fact this was by far the best meal I have had in a while and is beyond a doubt the best Japanese Steak House I have been to ever. I also learned that "yum yum" sauce is actually really good. I also learned that if you mix it with hot sauce, it is even better. This is something I had never experience before. Each source was very very flavorful and cooked to the temperature we requested. I had iced tea but others in my group got mixed drinks which were nicely done and well. Kyoto is a really well run, clean, and fun place to go for a special occasion. I will absolutely go again and plan to try more then their hibachi based menu. read more

We went for lunch the other day. Decided to sit at a table by ourselves instead of a table when there is a chef cooking in front of you. The sushi price was a good deal with many rolls $5 or two for $9. I had a shrimp roll which was delicious. My entree came with a salad that had yum yum sauce as it's dressing. The entree was the shrimp and scallops with fried rice. It also had sautéed bean sprouts ( known as spaghetti). They served a nice amount for a lunch price. Service was attentive but we had the manager turn the music down. It was too loud and annoying, in my opinion a soft Japanese tunes would have been a delightful alternative. read more

Ah, Kyoto. One of my favorite cities in the world. The ancient capitol of Japan and known for their "Shojin" aka Buddhist vegetarian cuisine. So why don't we name a steakhouse after a city known for their vegetarian cuisine? Not-so-subtle jabs aside, this Japanese steakhouse is not one of the best in Columbus. Genji Steakhouse that used to be at this location was way better. First, as several other reviewers have pointed out, the service is slow. In my case, this is what happened: We were seated immediately and our server took our order immediately. The soup and the salad came out quickly. But they decided to wait a few minutes to see if someone else will come in to better fill our hibachi table. Lo and behold, 2 ladies on a girls night out shows up and is seated at our hibachi table. They take their time deciding what cocktail they want. Then they take their time deciding what sushi they want. Then they finally decide on their hibachi dishes. Our waiter takes their order... then brings their drinks, then their soup and salad, then their sushi... while my family and I sit and wait with zero service. By the time the hibachi chef comes out to our table, it's been 35 minutes. The hibachi chef was friendly... but the show was the shortest, least entertaining show I've ever had at a hibachi restaurant. He did the obligatory onion volcano and spinning of the eggs... and that was about it. It didn't help that all of the veggies and shrimp came pre-sliced. Most Japanese steakhouses prep all of those in front of you as well. The food itself was good (I ordered the steak and shrimp combo, my wife ordered the steak and chicken combo), the volume of food was good, and the yum-yum sauce was good. The ginger sauce was for whatever reason very watery. My brother in law is addicted to the tamago sauce that Shi Chi Japanese steakhouse down the street serves, but I did not see that on the menu at Kyoto. The price of the food seemed a few dollars more expensive than what I remember at Genji... but the fried rice is included in the price whereas Genji used to charge extra for fried rice. On the flipside, I do want to give Kyoto credit for the nice renovation that they did to the inside of their building. It's well lit, it's airy, the tables have granite tops. They also give you the option of sitting at a non-hibachi table should you be so inclined. I think this restaurant has the potential to be better. Maybe I got unlucky with my tablemates taking so long to order. And maybe my hibachi chef wasn't from their A-team. I'd be willing to give them another try in the future, but for now, I have to give them a 2 star rating. read more

If you go just make sure you ask for light soy sauce or less salt. We when spoke to them they refused to comp part of the bill and then ended up saving us $10. I went for Columbus restaurant week. The appetizers we tried were the spring roll and chicken katsu and they were ok(I wouldn't order them again). The main course however, was phenomenal and their egg yolk sauce was one of the best I've ever had! The desserts we tried were the cheesecake and pineapple boat(just a fresh pineapple cut in the shape of a boat) and I was not impressed. But the atmosphere is nice, the services was great and the habachi really made this a 4 star review. read more

Ordered teriyaki chicken lunch through the app and added the $5 yum yum advertised as 16 oz. They had included a 1 oz container that was half full. We went back in and they fixed it. Then after we got home we realized they didn't include the salads (the dish was advertised as having both soup and salad, with teriyaki chicken and choice of rice). I guess we should have triple checked everything before we left, but after noticing the large container of yum yum wasn't there we just weren't thinking about all of the other items. I went to Kyoto for the first time. We did not have reservations but we only waited 10 minutes on a Saturday evening. The food smelled amazing and it did not disappoint. I ordered the steak and chicken combo. The fried rice was delicious and so was the salad. The meat was cooked to perfection. My group of 8 came to eat, we all had to pay in 2's which makes sense. What I didn't like was that every group of 2 got charged $10-$12 for a "large party" they didn't allow us to get separate bills so I don't think they should charge us for a large party. My whole family was in town and I wanted to take them to a good family outing so we decided to eat at this hibachi restaurant, my party was 11 people and they split us up one table got there food first and when they were done the other table got the food. We all wanted to eat together. we just wanted one bill to pay but didn't let us so we had to pay 18% gratuity on both bills for one party of nine and one party of two. The manager was also very rude and yelling at us. I strongly recommend not coming here! My family has to now find a new restaurant that we like. Never returning. We went in on Valentine's Day for a party of six and an infant (family dinner) with a reservation. It was quite busy and appeared short staffed but was assured we'd be seated in 25 minutes. Tried to make the best of it but the bar service was also very slow and could only get 1 round in 50 minutes, two of us didn't get drinks due to the delays. Finally seated, we had a server who was rude when we ordered & food was a bit rushed and not well timed. We also overheard the girls Sitting next to us who had not had a refill of their first sodas throughout dinner. Two hours later we are about to pay and a staff member comes out to our party and states that the server was concerned that we weren't able to drive safely home and wanted us to stay! We were stunned and quite frankly offended, as they hardly even stopped to ask if we needed anything. Three out of the 6 adults at the table had one drink the entire night. When asked to speak to a manager, the staff member refused to come out and explain what the concerns were, as none of us were impaired or had difficulties with our facilities. In addition, she provided misinformation to us about the restaurant's 'liability' because if they were that concerned about someone drinking too much, they are obligated to refuse service to said individual. Which they did not do. I was completely sober at the end of dinner and was offended for our entire family about this type of accusation. Absolutely no apology or effort to apologize was made. Very disappointed by this dining experience and will certainly not be returning. read more

They were still taking walk-ins, which was kind of ridiculous given they couldn't meet the needs of those with reservations. Could not get a drink at the bar while waiting- not enough staff. Man what can I say about this place!!!! I am from California and flew in to see family this was the first place we stopped to eat on our trip... biggest mistake ever... The manager then came and confronted me about the roll and then started arguing with our waiter right in front of us because he didn't specify to her what guy the roll was for. That was strike 1. My wife had ordered shrimp hibachi, and she said the shrimp tasted like dirt. My wife is pregnant so I was like no it's just your pregnancy taste buds are all out of whack. So her sister tried a piece and confirmed it so I decided to try them as well and yes they tasted like dirt!!! Like dirty shrimp!!! So we told our waiter Chris and he instantly apologized and said he would try to take it off of our order. He then came back saying the manager would not allow it. Strike 2!!! We had 4 kids with us who we had just ordered chow mein noodles. The damn noodles did not come out we had to request them again and the kids were given noodles in a to go box. Strike 3! So by this time I was super irritated and honestly I'm not the kind of guy to start drama at a restaurant or ever send food back, so I ask the waiter if he could please remove the shrimp and noodles he says he can't because he isn't allowed so I ask if I can speak to the manager and he told me that honestly I would be wasting my time with her because all she does is argue. I responded well where is she so that I can argue back. He said she was up front so I walk up there with my bill to find her hanging out at the bar. She instantly came at me with attitude and as I explained to her how awful the shrimp were and how dirty the tasted she instantly says no they don't my staff ate them for lunch. So I'm like well that was lunch and now this is dinner so you should try them and she kept refusing. She kept insinuating that I was lying to her! I told her that I would go get the shrimp from the plate and have her try them and she refused. In the end she just discounted us $20 of our $248 bill. No apology no nothing just asking if that would make me happy honestly it didn't she was damn rude that it is such a shame that she has a job as a manager it's a shame that place has her representing them. I came here during restaurant week with some friends hoping to be seated right away, being that we had a reservation made for 7:30pm. We were told to wait 20 minutes but really waited an hour to even sit. Once we sat, 30 minutes went by and we received no acknowledgement whatsoever. One of my friends got up and asked a server to take our order for drinks at least. It was truly disappointing. Not to mention the server had the audacity to vent to us about another party (like we weren't already upset). HIGHLY RECOMMEND! Favorite Japanese steakhouse! The staff is always incredible, and I've never once waited for a table! We usually find ourselves here on Saturday nights around 7:00, and it is never too busy to be seated immediately. It is much cheaper than Benihana at Polaris, and the quality does not even compare. They have THE BEST filet mignon, you can literally taste the freshness! I really don't get how this place doesn't have a better review? I saw mentions of pre-chopped vegetables and bad shows, maybe they have done an overhaul? Either way, both my girlfriend and I agreed that this was the best Hibachi we have been to so far in any location. While they did the standard stuff like the onion volcano and flinging food, I saw some tricks I saw that I've never seen before and had the whole table really getting into it. It was lengthy and probably the only time I've gone to a Hibachi restaurant thinking the show was as good as the food. Food wise, we ended up getting the dinner for two option with lobster, shrimp, and salmon and added an order of scallops. We expected just come chunks of lobster, so we were extremely surprised when they brought out two whole lobster tails, 2 large filets of salmon, and a good amount of shrimp. For what it cost ($60 I think) it was the best deal for two people. Also throw in the soup, fried rice, veggies, and it really made it worth it. My best friend and I used to frequently eat at Genji, which is what used to occupy the building Kyoto now occupies. We came here today hoping that the quality of service and food had not changed, and we were pleasantly surprised. We were met with a somewhat awkward greeting by the host, but he got us seated quickly and allowed us some space between the other people at the table (who ended up being very polite and friendly also). The atmosphere has not fundamentally changed. They have created a space where people can sit and eat privately instead of around the hibachi grills, which is nice for being able to have a private conversation, or simply be able to focus on the person you're with. Our drink order was taken, and brought to us, quickly. The server was very friendly, as well as the chef. The chef was incredibly entertaining and personable; made jokes and held our attention with the humorous things he was doing and saying while cooking the food (he lightheartedly joked with me because I wanted my filet well-done). The quality of the food was excellent, it was delicious, and cooked to perfection.
