More time was spent on trying to upsell $400 of other services than changing my oil. Will not be going back ever again

KK has so many hard-earned, well-deserved 5 star reviews already, and here's another. The biggest reason: I trust these guys. They're not out to stack a bunch of services on top of your oil change. They do make recommendations, which we all need because we're not the professionals, but I don't feel taken advantage of. Because of their service, I feel like the money I spend is an investment in my car and not just an expense. I'll always recommend Kwik Kar! read more

As far as oil change facilities go, this one is great! I loathe taking my car in for any reason for ANY type of maintenance, so I usually leave that up to my husband, but I have been to this location on several occasions. Everyone that I have encountered here is polite, helpful, and knowledgeable. The waiting area is always stocked with up to date magazines, complementary coffee, clean restroom, and comfortable seating. My only issue is feeling like I'm being sold other things besides what I go in here for, which is an oil change - I always need a new air filter(s), transmission fluid change, brake fluid is thin, etc...I drive a 2005 Lexus, so it's not like it's in bad of shape, so usually I like for my husband to make the call on the non-oil change decisions. I just like to go in there, have them do the work, and tell me when it's done - thanks for checking everything else out, but I dread the call out to the garage part. read more

Kwik Kar is an honest shop with great customer service. I've taken my car there for regular oil changes and inspections for the last five years. The guys at the shop don't try to push unnecessary services, and always keep me up to date on my car's status. The waiting room is very nice with good reading materials and WiFi! read more

I originally gave Kwik Kar a one-star based on feeling taken advantage of and feeling as if the technician was only trying to "up sell" me. I was contacted by the owner the same day, Mark, apologizing for the treatment and offering to refund for my service. I'm amending my rating based on the owner's stellar customer service and willingness to "make it right". I will return for basic oil changes, but will seek a mechanic for any other service or work. Highly Recommended. Very friendly and professional. I came here on a busy Saturday morning to check my unstable idle speed. Initially they did not have any free hands to fill me in , but after I told them I drove from 100 miles away and had to take off again soon, they squeezed me in. Unstable idle speed is very difficult to diagnose, but it took them less than 20 mins to identify the problem and another 30 mins to fix the problem. Many mechanics would simply ask you to spend few hundreds to replace a new idle motor, but they simply cleaned several components around idle motor and fixed the problem. I was charged for only 30mins of labor fee.! read more

Never again! 40 minute wait for an inspection and I was the first one there this morning. Watched the guy try to untangle some cables and tubes for 5 minutes as my car sat unattended. I rarely write reviews but these guys are amazing and the main point is they really care. They do great work on all parts of a car and are super courteous. They are more than willing to do minor things at no charge knowing that this is the way you earn business and not nickel and dime you. I have had a lot of work done here and anytime I or a member of my family need something small they are gald to do it. In fact my daughter hit a curb and knocked her bumper out of whack and Kevin got under the car, fixed it and all he would except is a thank you! This location has earned all of my business and I highly recommend them to anyone who needs service and has a had a bad experience with other repair places. I trust them which says a lot! read more

These dudes seriously have saved my ass so many times. I use to drive an old VW and they were very honest with what needed to be done to pass inspection. Now that I have a Mazda, I continue to see them. Jan is really nice and is always in a great mood whenever she's working the front desk. For whatever reason Spencer is the mechanic that just happens to always work on my car (by chance... Or maybe even fate?) and he's awesome. I just got a friendly postcard mailer that includes a $3.00 off my next service coupon! Great service, knowledgeable mechanics, and a nice facility keep me coming back to Kwik Kar every time! I've had a couple issues with my old Nissan in the past few months, and they have been helpful and attentive every single time. The younger mechanics will usually try to sell me a flush when I get routine maintenance, which I decline, but I've come to expect this from most places. On top of the stellar work they do, the owner is a great person! He drove me and my dog (who's road trip home got cut short by a faulty sensor) halfway across town to my apartment, and then came and picked me up when they repair was done. The also let me bring my own part to them and they put it in. A LOT of places won't do this, and will make you buy the part they supply. I would recommend this Kwik Kar to EVERYONE I know, they do amazing work here! read more

Great customer service. I came in last week before I went on a trip. A/C wasn't working. One thing led to another and my hood would not open. Mike and Ryan went above and beyond with the help of a few others. Got the hood open and fixed that issue. Ryan and Mike stayed 1.5 hours after they closed trying to help me. They found the problem, but I waited to get it fixed because of time. I brought it back to get it fixed. I will update on how that goes. read more

I've been going to this place for over a decade... I'll never go back. They used to be the "go-to guys" for maintenance and repairs, and I have given them many many thousands of dollars of business... But something has gone very wrong at this place. Around noon last Friday I called and let them know that my wife's car need maintenance and an inspection. I let them know there was a problem with the car but they said to bring it in and it would be maybe an hour or an hour and a half. When I get there I let the person know that there is a "check engine" light and a squealing belt. He begins to look uncomfortable and says that they couldn't get to it that day. This is noon on Friday but I say OK. He says that it would be better to bring it in the next morning. He says that it is "first come first serve". So we show up around 9:30 the next morning. They take the car and say that they shouldn't have any problems getting to it. Later on in the day I get a call saying they have done the regular maintenance and that they check engine light is caused by a simple, inexpensive problem. I'm OK with this and give them the go-ahead to fix it. Later on Saturday I get a call that they are not going to be able to get to it that day. So, I've now wasted TWO days waiting for a reasonably simple procedure. But since the car is still there, I ask if they can just keep it there and put me in the front of the line on Monday. They say that they will. A little later on that same day I get a call from someone who says that I can come pick up the car. I ask if they have finished the repairs and she sounds flustered and disoriented. She goes to check and comes back and says that they haven't. This place used to have a cool "Austin Vibe" to it, now it seems completely shady and chaotic. No one seems to know what anyone else is doing and one gets the feeling that one should not even be leaving the nickels in the ashtray. Monday comes around and I take what I assume will be a few hours off of work, since they promised that they would get to it first. It's getting close to noon and still no call. So I call and discover that they haven't even started! The person then says that they have "a ford to finish and that my car will be next". This was a lie. Not a "mistake" or a "miscommunication" ... it was a lie. I call back around 3:30 and discover that they still haven't even started and now have no intention of getting to it that day. At that point I go and get my car. There goes a full day of vacation time and four days of waiting for absolutely nothing. Even if I have to wait a week somewhere else... I won't give these cons any more of my money. The important thing is that if this place lies so easily and automatically about something as innocuous as scheduling, one can be certain that they will have no problem lying about something which is profitable for them. This is not an ethical business. In the past I might have agreed with some of the good reviews here, but something has gone very wrong with this place and it is not the same. Buyer Beware read more

Facilities were super clean. Nice coffee/tea set up, and complimentary little chocolates. Gentlemen on staff were just that-- friendly, smiling, patient, and personable. Love this place. As someone who knows NOTHING about cars besides the super bare minimum in understanding, I am always very comfortable coming into this joint. We recently moved out to Bastrop but for the time being I still work in Austin and still get my car serviced at Kwik Kar. I sure do hope they open a location out in Bastrop in the future! I've been bringing my 2004 Subaru Forester here for years, and still trek 15 miles south even just for an oil change, although I've been living up in NW Austin for a long time now. I've just always had confidence that I'm being treated fairly, and that they have a very high level of expertise and professionalism. With my car getting up there in years, it was only a matter of time before some major job needed to be done, and sure enough, this summer she needed some intricate surgery. Charlie was the one who oversaw it, patiently explaining everything to this mechanical ignoramus, and communicating by phone with me regularly about progress and to check in about costs so that I fully understood what I was being charged for and why. No surprises, authentically good customer service and a relatively stress-free experience all round. I can't imagine I'll be taking my car anywhere else as long as I'm living in Austin. read more

Be sure to confirm the price of the oil change in writing before leaving your car. Otherwise you may get an expensive synthetic oil change instead of the less expensive oil. If this happens to you, they will charge you twice as much as the cost of a regular oil change. And don't complain, they will not apoligize. If you want your car back, you will pay the higher amount. I found this car shop through Yelp and went to them today, they are a full service shop. The skid plate on my car had fallen and I thought I would have to have it replaced. However, they just screwed the plate back on and didn't charge me a dime! This has to be one of my best car shop interactions ever. A less ethical shop might have told me they needed a new part and possibly gotten a couple of hundred off of me but this shop was honest. I will go back to them again for my car needs. read more

We have used Kwik Kar Southwest for regular maintenance and car care for years. Wouldn't go anywhere else!! The staff there is ALWAYS courteous, prompt in checking us in, and fair in their costs. They will talk with us about whatever service we came in for, and advise us if there is other maintenance due before doing the work, as well as letting us know of any problems they find. Couldn't ask for a better group to work with. My 3 MUST HAVES are, a good: (1) Doctor (2) Dentist and (3) Auto Maintenance establishment. Kwik Car has the worst customer service I've ever seen In my life ! I called Up there before I went To get an inspection the guy Kyle I believe told me that they only had a 15 min wait so I drive up there as soon as I pull Up another guy tells me it's about a hour wait ! I was Like I just called and he said no wait so I decided to go wash my truck kill sometime up why they knocked some cars out. So 20 min later I go Back up there park my truck and go inside ! Sitting In front for another 20 min before I get Acknowledged guy asks have I've been help I tell Him I need a inspection he says let me see one second so he goes out to shop ! I'm waiting another 30 min and he never returns but I can See him look at me through the window ! So now waiting For the guy to put my truck In Line to be next He never returned another car pulls up and they bring into the bay immediately! So at this time I just Left ! I've never been treated like that In my life ! They usually have good customer service cause I've been going there for years but never have I been Treated like that at a business ever. I will Never return to this business you loss not only my business but my friends and family too ! I went Right down the road And they knock it out in 15 minutes. Where do i start? First i paid $48 for an oil change. i drive a regular car. That might be normal for a 15 qt diesel truck, but not for 6cyl car. Then, they left oil on the interior door handle and forgot to put a new sticker in. The cost and lack of attention to detail was one thing, but i emailed them and never heard anything back. I have gotten my oil changed and my car inspected here for the last few years. Always good service, pleasant people, nice atmosphere. They have free wifi, a fenced dog park, comfortable seats, a small corner for kids with toys, a counter top area if you have work to do, free coffee, and chocolate. These guys do offer *extra* services, but I don't believe they are trying to upsell. Instead, they are offering recommended services specific to your vehicle or industry standards. When I turn them down for transmission service and tire rotation and radiator flushing, they don't retort with reasons why I need to spend an extra $90 today to save thousands later. This, I greatly appreciate. Kwik Kar will also offer a discount (I ask wherever I go). And while my serviceman didn't know of any teacher discount, he did offer me a 10% VIP discount for asking. They offer other kinds of discounts as well. From what I could see on the computer screen, there was one for police officers and another for AAA customers. I couldn't catch the others, but there was a lengthy list. The only reason why I can't give a five-star review is because once I waited more than 2 and a half hours for them to change my oil. However, It usually only takes about 30-45 minutes. read more

The most honest company I have ever dealt with. Went today for an oil change and the tech noticed in my records that they had done a brake flush at previous back to back visits by mistake. They gave me a credit for the duplicate service that they had actually performed. This is a rare thing to find and I will continue to give them my business! read more

I'm reading these reviews thinking this has got to be one big joke. Point blank: My boyfriend was having issues with his Ford Explorer, so he decided to stop by this place since it is right down the street. They charged him close to $500 dollars to "fix" the problem and said he would be good as new. The VERY NEXT DAY he was still having the same issue so he took it back....they wanted to charged him another $86 just to do a diagnostic test. OK shouldn't that have been done the first go around? We payed $500 for you to fix the problem that YOU said we had! On top of that when we refused we were given awful attitude from the service guys. It's unbelievable. In short we took the car to AAMCO off south lamar and the guys there were so helpful. They ran a FREE diagnostic, told us the problem (one of the hoses was melted, not "chewed by rats" as the Kwik Kar guys had said) charged us three times as less and my boyfriend's car is running awesome. You want to go somewhere, where you get the work done right the first time and are not scammed out of hundreds of dollars. WRECKED MY CAR. Went here couple of weekends ago for a simple inspection. They call me out to the parking lot where one of their employees had wrecked my truck into a leaving customer. The owner or manager comes looks says nothing, so I finally say "so what do we do?" Owner looks at my truck which has some dings I'll admit but basically tells me my truck already has some dents so this paint all over your bumper is really only damage, cant really do anything for you... No apology, no hey lets get that inspection done on the house. The owner was only worried about denying any responsibility. I asked for my keys and left, would not recommend this place to anyone with ownership like that. Completely disgusted with this company!!! read more

We used to use Kwik Kar for oil changes and once for brake work (10/2009). Back then we had $1200 worth of brake work done. Low and behold, 1/2012 our brakes were screeching again. They quickly claimed that a hose broke in the rear that caused the problem. The bill was going to be $1131. I got a copy of the invoice and decided to do the work myself. Man were these guys trying to rip me off!! They wanted $745 for parts, I ordered the parts for $100 at the local auto store. Plus they were saying parts need to be replaced that didn't!!! These guys are thieves! Stay away!! I saved $1000 doing the work myself, it only took 2 hours and I know it was done right!! read more
