Kwik Kar was very professional and fast getting my car inspected. The facility is also clean and comfortable. In addition, when I was having trouble renewing my car registration, they immediately got me another copy of my paperwork so I could get back to the tax office right away and still get my renewal taken care of that same morning. read more

My second time here and my experience was not quite as good. I went in for routine maintenance (oil change, etc..) and was ushered in fairly quickly as I heard a tech. say I was lucky since they had been slammed all day. I spoke to the lead tech as I'm no stranger to automotive work and was kind of given the yeah yeah vibe, so I left them to work on the car. Then I noticed that another person was doing the work on my car and seemed to be fumbling around a bit. I started to pay more attention and watched thru the large glass partition between the office and the garage. My attendant must have been new because the owner kept having to show him what to do. This went on for the duration of my stay. One time I almost went out myself when I saw him attempt to pour brake fluid directly from the bottle into my reservoir without a funnel to guide the fluid properly. The owner caught the near miss and showed him the machine they use for dispensing fluids into such places. I may just go to the dealer from now on, as my confidence has been shaken. read more

I work in an oncology center. On Tuesday afternoon, one of our clients came into the center to do her treatment. She was quite upset. At one time, she had had some problems with Kwik Kar and they had not locked her car. They had also told her that they were to check everything, and she told them she only wanted oil changed. When they started talking to her about other things, she got pretty firm and told them she did not want to hear it. Then she got upset because they had been irresponsible enough to leave her car unlocked. She paid her bill and left. When she complained about them on Facebook, several people shamed her into giving them a second chance. Over a year had passed since that incident, and she returned to them. The guy took her keys, and she told her she was going to Culver's to get some custard. The businesses share a parking lot, so she walked over there. She was told 15 minutes, and after about 20 she returned. Her car was sitting out in the lot, unlocked. The man took her aside and said because she had complained loudly about her car in the past, (I would have held them responsible) then they refused to work on it. She asked why they had not come to get her at Culver's. "Oh, we did not want to disrupt your eating." Sounds like spite to me. Let's get back at the lady because she complained. We can not do the car and not tell her until she comes back and leave the car unlocked and unprotected as well. She was on a tight schedule, but she did get the oil changed elsewhere before having to come to do a chemo treatment. What kind of men don't have the guts to face someone to save them the time and energy? Low people. What kind of men refuse to help someone out when they were in the wrong two ways. Yes, they do what they do, but when people say, "I don't want to hear it, then shut up." What kind of men leave a widow's. car unlocked so any Tom, Dick, or Harry can steal from it.? Love this place... they pay attention to my car. More than just a drain and refill. All the gents I've interacted with have been courteous, helpful and accommodating. The only teeny hassle is that sometimes they are super-busy. (Means their good!) There is decent coffee, newspapers, magazines, and a clean sitting area. Someone will always check with you before they do anything to your car. (I went on a Saturday recently and they had donut holes!) Recommend, indeed. read more

Came in for a oil change 1/9/2016 , not really concerned on how long it took ,however the job was not done correctly. Technician left off the screws on one side of my plastic cover guard covering the oil filter. In my view this is inexcusible ,and I won't be back for this level of service. read more

This place had SO many good reviews...so I thought I would try it. I am new to this area of austin, and I needed a new oil change place. I have been going to the same place since I was 16 (21 now) so maybe I'm spoiled...but I expected a certain level of professionalism and customer service from this place, especially based on the great reviews. Well, I was wrong. This place was HORRIBLE. I will never, ever, ever go here again. When I first pulled in, an attendant came up to my window and he seemed kind of nice, but he was creepy...I mean super creepy. My boyfriend was with me, and the guy acted like he wasn't even there and kept asking me all these personal questions...like what I did for a living. It wasn't exactly small talk either, I felt like he was interrogating me. I had some stuff in my backseat, so I informed him not to worry about vacuuming out the back seat, just the floorboard. He seemed kind of taken back (as if they didn't vacuum) and then he said, "oh yeah of course"...I don't think they would have even vacuumed if I hadn't said something about it. I was extremely behind on my oil changes (liiike 12,000 mi overdue), and knew that I was extremely low on oil (I'm talking almost dangerous to drive). I was aware of this, that's why I was there! So the same guy comes in and explains this to me, asks me if I want to upgrade to a better oil (I say no)...and he then continues to ask me super creepy personal questions afterwards. Then another guy comes in, asks me to come out into the shop so he can show me something. He doesn't SHOW me anything, he just wanted to get me away from my boyfriend so he could try and coax me into making a stupid decision. Well FYI, I know a lot about my truck, I'm not dumb when it comes to vehicles just because I'm a girl! He tried to tell me that I needed an engine flush. I told him no thanks, and he went on to explain that they had to make note that they were not responsible for any engine damage. Whatever, that's fine. But, the guy was a complete jerk when I told him I didn't want an engine flush and treated me like an idiot girl who doesn't know anything about vehicles. This is so frustrating to me when places like this try to take advantage of females thinking they don't know what's going on with their vehicles. Ok, so moving on...It takes them about 30 minutes and they bring my keys in. There is a guy standing at the counter with a discrepancy about something they did wrong on the oil change he had earlier that day. The guy tells him to wait, and calls me up to the counter. He starts cussing (seriously?!) and gets all pissed off and slams his clipboard down on the counter because one of the other guys didn't enter my info into the computer yet (this is the same guy who called me outside and was rude to me). I tell him to just go ahead and take care of the guy that was IN FRONT of me in line. Poor guy, he shouldn't have gotten pushed back for me... Another guy comes in...very nice. He enters my info into the computer and finishes my check-out. Reads the little "note" to me about them not being liable for engine damage since I denied an engine flush. He seemed a bit confused by this (as if it wasn't normal) and continued on. $40!!!! FORTY DOLLARS for an oil change. I have never, ever paid that much for an oil change!!! Ridiculous! I get in my truck to drive away, it was very lightly vacuumed....and they don't clean the windows there. The place I have always gone to, they clean the outside of your windows for you. Sure, this place lets you bring your dog (mine didn't get any treats btw, for those that mentioned that in their 5 star reviews)...they have complimentary coffee and a nicely decorated waiting room. I'm sorry, but that's not why I'm there. Change my oil, take care of my truck...and do it without robbing me. That's all that really matters... I hope that this actually helps other people make their decision about going to this place. I had an awful first experience, and I will never go back. I'd rather go to a wal-mart or jiffy lube if I'm going to get that kind of service, at least it'd be cheaper. I hope the owners read this and re-evaluate their employees, I wish I had gotten their names. I have never written a bad review before today. Went to Kwik Kar on April 8, 2019 as a AAA referral when I accidentally put gas into a diesel engine a friend had loaned me while on vacation in Austin. Over the phone, the manager told me that they would remove the gas tank, drain it, and it would take 2.5 hours and cost $325. I said OK. When I was towed there, the manager said they were very busy and that it would take until closing which was 5 hours away. I said OK. After 4 hrs of waiting, the manager told me they wouldn't be able to get to it until tomorrow because he had gone on lunch break and hadn't reminded the mechanic to start it in time to finish before closing. I said OK. He assured me it would be finished by noon the next day. The manager called me at 1030am the next day and told me the gas was in the fuel pump and the cost to replace it would be $1,200! He said I probably drove it after putting the gas in the tank. I said I had witnesses from the gas station that helped me roll the car away from the pumps that would corroborate my claim that I never started the car after putting gas in in. At this point I started to suspect that his mechanic may have forgotten that he shouldn't start the car when he moved it to the hydraulic lift. The manager claimed that he had video proving they didn't start the car. The manager never showed me the video. At this point, I had my husband call the manager. After the call, the manager replaced the fuel filter free of charge, charged me $375, and refused to guarantee his work. I would not trust this shop to repair a tricycle. read more

Yesterday I spoke with Mike about my brakes. They were squeeking and I was concerned it was time for new pads. He took me back to my truck on the jack and explained how the brakes were in really good shape. We had a great conversation in general about trucks and maintenance (he knows what he is talking about). He also reminded me that I was due for a timing belt (which I was aware of), but made no pressure attempt for me to get it on the spot. I really appreciated that. Been to this place twice and I've gotta say, these guys are pretty awesome. I was thoroughly impressed during my initial visit, when I thought I had an issue with my AC. Went in to get my oil changed and to have my AC checked out. The oil change was fairly quick. Then one of the guys actually told me my AC didn't need to be checked out and it was fine-- it would've just been added expense. He even gave me tips to maximize my AC use. I truly appreciated the honesty there! Felt like other places would've just quenched for more moolah. Went in a second time and got an oil change again. This time they recommended getting my brakes flushed and tires rotated. I was already there so why not? It all took less than an hour so they're pretty quick and efficient. They're also not pushy sales people at all-- which is a top plus on my book! This is probably my go to place and will definitely recommend them! read more

My only regret in writing an exceptionally positive review regarding the imperial car mastery of Kwik Kar Southwest, is that the typically short wait times will lengthen, once Austin realizes how great they are. My new mechanic shop - just moved back into the area and am so happy I found this place. Services are reasonably priced and they don't try to rip you off and fix stuff that doesn't need to be fixed. Took my car in because I thought I might need breaks and a battery - mechanic took my car back about 30 mins later (told me it would be about a 30 min wait to pull it into the bay) and then let me know that yes, car needs a new battery but that the breaks are good for a while yet. Didn't charge me for the diagnostic, and I didn't spend my entire morning there. Waiting area is clean, well ventilated, has comfy seating, and (get this) a little coffee bar with DECENT coffee, creamers, and snacks - if I have to wait at least it's not in a stuffy room with crappy seats. read more

I am new to the area and needed to get the inspection part of the TX vehicle registration process done. Based on Yelp reviews I stopped by here on a Monday morning around 10:45 AM. Someone met me at my car, asked how they could help, told me how long it would take (45 mins.) and gave me a few suggestions if I wanted to walk somewhere to kill the time. I opted to sit it out in their comfortable waiting area. Everyone that works here seems to be very customer conscious and does a very good job explaining what they did and if there is any additional recommendations for work on a vehicle. A mechanic came out and informed me that there was an issue with my gas gap and that they could have a new one delivered in 20 minutes and then my car would pass inspection. Sure enough, it got done in allotted time and I left with the paperwork I needed for registration. Couldn't ask for more than that! read more

This is the best place I have gone to get my oil-changed / car serviced. I almost always have my kids with me while running errands, so it is a bonus that they have a separate playroom while we wait. It seems like it might be just a few dollars more expensive than other places I used to go, but the staff is fantastic and EXTREMELY courteous. read more

Horrible. Don't you dare use the restroom while you're sitting there for over an hour. If they call you and you don't answer right away, you'll sit there for a good long time. Very rude and careless and the "ten minute oil change" is a lie I get it, your busy... but don't advertise something you can't live up to. Will never ever think about going again. This is my first Yelp review every but I've been going to Kwik Kar Southwest for a few years now. And as everyone knows, it is tough to find a good mechanic but like I said, I've been going to them for years now. A few weeks ago, I had an experience that could've turned me off of them. I had a 60k service done and everything was fine after that. About a week or two later, I noticed that the AC didn't get cold anymore at times and that the temp gauge would be pegged and the car would overheat. I was very concerned and took it back to them. I told them about the maintenance 2 weeks earlier and they said that sometimes a bubble gets caught in the cooling system and causes these issues. They flushed the cooling system again for free and gave me a couple of free oil changes for my trouble. Oh, and they didn't charge me a thing. There was an issue with the work that they did and they owned up to it and fixed it. I will admit that they are a bit more expensive than the typical independent mechanic, but I trust them with my car and that peace of mind is worth it to me. I recommend them because they do good work, they tell me what is going on, they seem honest, and I don't get the "oh, your blinker fluid is low so you need to spend $300 for a blinker fluid flush" vibe from them at all. I am very happy that I have found a mechanic that I can trust. read more

Great place to get routine work done on your car. Very comfy waiting room with complimentary coffee and cheap sodas! Even a small area for little kids to entertain themselves. Staff is very friendly. I only had one bad experience where they forgot about my car and I didn't notice it til I'd waited there a whole hour to discover it got lost in the que. I will never bring my car here again! My son and I went for an oil change before he headed off to college. He noticed there was an oil puddle under his car and after my husband checked it out he discovered that the oil filter was not tightened and there was barely any oil in the engine. I am so glad my college age son recognized this otherwise his engine would have been shot. This is not the first time that we had something major go wrong here. Last year we had some work done on a different vehicle and they didn't hook the brake line back up. I decided to give them a second chance, but now realize that was a big mistake. I took my car here yesterday for an inspection for the third year in a row. I also needed some headlights installed. The shop was busy, but all the guys are working hard. They appear to have a good system. I had less than an hour wait time on a busy Saturday. There are nice waiting areas inside and outside. The guys are very friendly. Highly recommend. read more

Went in for a car inspection and left with a broken air intake hose after they talked me into a fuel injection flush. Then they wanted me to pay for the hose.I spent the whole after noon there and left with a duct taped air intake hose. Only into making money. The manager is a major scam artist. I hate to say how great they are but it looks like the secret is already out! Took my truck in for A/C repair and they did what they said they would do and then some!! My 15yr old truck is blowing colder then a meat locker! Jason and his crew have exceptional customer service!! That is what will bring me back EVERY time. Disappointing! Went to get an inspection on my Honda today and asked the man that greeted me to please check my tire pressure. I knew the left front tire was low. I checked it before leaving home. After the inspection ( done by another man) I was checking out and asked him if he had checked the tire pressure. He said he forgot but that he would go out and check. He went out to my car, I was watching, walked around and looked at the tires, turned the ignition on. He came back in and said, "Everything looks good, your tire pressure light isn't on." Duh!!!!!! I guess I knew that!!!!! Got in my car, went to discount tires and yes, my left front tire was low. They happily aired it up for free. We are planning on a road trip this weekend and I would have been furious if my tire pressure light would have come on during the trip. Terrible service! read more

I have been having my oil changed at Kwik Kar for sometime now but the last two oil changes have left me with an oil leaks. The first time I had to bring my car back twice before they fixed the leak. So this oil change I asked them to be extra careful and install the oil plug properly. They did give me a free oil change for the first leaking problem. You guessed it the next morning oil was on the floor. My car never leaked a single drop of oil until Kwik Kar started doing my oil changes. I don't care if the oil change was free if I walk away with a damaged oil pan drain. read more

I will never return to this establishment. First, the oil change took close to an hour. Next, they showed me how dirty my cabin air filter was and tried to upsell me on buying a new one. I declined and just went for the basic oil change. When I went to leave the facility, I noticed a new sound coming from the fan/ac inside the vehicle. I asked them to check it, they pulled out the cabin air filter again, where I saw they hadn't even bothered to dust out the leaves and debris that were there. I went ahead & agreed to purchase a new one as I figured it probably needed to be replaced. (I later discovered I paid more than double for a part I could have easily purchased and installed on my own.) The kicker, though, was on the drive back to my office, when I heard a horrible rattle underneath my vehicle. I pulled over on the side of a major roadway (Mopac), crawled underneath & discovered my skid plate was loose and dragging on the road. I managed to prop it back in & drove back to Kwik Kar. Once there, they claimed they had done nothing to affect it and had in fact noticed it looked loose. While they were quick to show me a $40 non-essential part during my initial visit, they failed to mention that it was loose (if it was in fact loose at that point.) They did at least re-secure it for me, but didn't offer me any credit for my inconvenience (I had to pull over 2 more times and reattach it while driving back to the shop) or the damage to my vehicle. All in all, a very frustrating experience. read more

I wanted an oil change. The service dude tore my dash apart to find a filthy filter. I should have said "PUT THAT BACK!", but I went for the sucker punch and paid $40+ for a filter that cost $4.95 at Advanced Auto. I know he presented himself as doing me a favor, but when an oil change suddenly costs $90+ I must complain. He made it sound like it would cost me that much if I went to Advanced Auto for this so I did some checking up. They would have done it for free with the purchase of the filter.
