Fabulous service and a beautiful location with many good eats around the area!!! Honestly folks give Oakland a bad rep when they have some of the best food and activities... anyways we were able to get a Groupon deal for the 90 min. CBD Float Session w/ CBD Gummies and I highly recommend! It was our first time and I was a little nervous but we had a quick instructional video we watched and staff walked us through everything and answered all questions. Now for the actual experience, you do shower first and you can bring a bathing suit if you'd like as well but each room for your session is private so it is optional. You shower before you go in and make sure you use the earplugs since you are going to be floating so to avoid it getting in your ears. There's an option to adjust the lighting and sound and to even turn it all off if you prefer a more sensory deprivation experience. You can change your selection throughout which was really nice so you can try all the different modes. One thing to keep in mind is that it is like a bunch of salt (think your at-home epsom salt TIMES A THOUSAND) so it can be a bit of a different texture at first but you can always slightly open the door and they have a spray bottle for just water or if you just need some air at any point during your session. For me, I think a good session would be about 60 min. The full 90 min. was definitely nice but I think about an hour in my mind was beginning to race a little so I think an hour is perfect! Facilities were very clean and the complimentary tea was so lovely and the staff were so kind and helpful! After having been to Velvet Spa in South Bay, wanted to find something closer. Came across Kume on Yelp, and am glad I tried this place out! Booked a scalp massage and it was so relaxing. It was so relaxing to the point where I thought I had for sure gone over the hour and had a mini panic moment that maybe they thought I booked a different package. After I let myself relax again, I continued to enjoy the scalp massage, massage of my arms, neck, and shoulders. This was just what I needed. I didn't take pictures of the before and after, but my scalp was so clean after! I'll definitely be coming back here again. This was my first time trying a scalp massage at this location. Parking was relatively easy and metered on the street. When I initially walked up, the door was locked and someone came to open it but they didn't greet me. They literally just opened the door. Another staff member came and greeted me and checked me in. They were pretty nice and thorough with the check-in process. For the scalp a massage, they usually prefer to have customers fill out a brief assessment prior to the service. I had filled out the assessment and it just indicated that anyone with longer a thicker hair would have to add or incur an additional charge, which is customary. The lady who opened the door for me happened to be the one providing my scalp massage. She ended up greeting me at that point in time. She gave me a brief assessment and then took me back to start the service. The service overall was pretty good. I will say that during the service, I started to doze off at some point however I was awakened fully when the water started just washing over my nose and eyes. I felt like I was drowning at some point because it was just literally left on my nose and eyes and it was a lot. I didn't say anything cause I was a little delirious at the point and finally the water got turned off but I got a ton of water in my ear as well from just the water and the angle. When I've gotten the service before and another location, I never had an issue with the water being down over my face in that way. It was just a bit weird. After the service was complete, she took me back to do another assessment of my scalp and at that point I could see what my hair looked like in the mirror. It looked like one big knot. After she complete the scalp assessment, she handed me some product to "assist" with combing out my hair. At that point, there was no combing that needs to be done. I had basically developed one big dread from that service. It was really bad. I didn't really care to have her help me comb through it at that point because I already knew that there was no combing that would be able to comb that out in less than two hours. I ended up going back to the front desk and letting them know about the situation and how it's really important that they know how to deal with all types of hair. No one should have to leave there with the hair in the knot and there should be emphasis on ensuring that clients show up with their hair completely combed out if that's the expectation. That was not what was explained to me at the start of the service. I was just told that it would take a little longer. I will say that the folks at the front appeared a bit receptive to what I had to say but not really. I think they were a little defensive when I brought up being able to do all types of textured hair and they indicated that they have clients that come in all the time and have never had a problem. That still doesn't mean that there's not a problem. As a customer, I do think it's important that their staff know how to do all textures of hair and be upfront with the expectation of how clients should arrive especially if their hair is prone to tangles or if they have longer and/or thicker hair. I did provide some recommendations for vegan hair products that they could use on clients who have multi textured hair. At this point, I probably wouldn't come here to do another scalp massage, but hopefully they were receptive to the feedback and are able to constructively use the feedback to improve their services. read more

I came in on a Sunday with my mom and sister to celebrate my mom's 60th birthday with some good pampering. I had been interested in a head spa for a while and in visiting Kume to try out their float and cocoon sauna! Safe to say I will definitely be back for another treatment and to try other services (which extends to body scrubs and body massages too WEEEE!) We were all seen at the same time and had such a lovely experience. Amazing massage, attentive details, and such a calming ambience. My mom specifically needed a very gentle massage and her practitioner understood and she said she can't wait to do this again some time. My sister is a new mother and got even more special attention too fir relaxation and tension release. What really sold me on booking this was the value for the Deluxe scalp treatment that had upper body dry brush & massage with facial massage. As an esthetician myself I can say everything together was priced so fair AND even better to have an introductory discount for our first visit. I stopped by Kume Spa on a whim after dinner with a friend, having passed by many times and finally wanting to check it out. The front desk staff was warm and welcoming, and I was genuinely intrigued by their services--especially Float Therapy. After a helpful overview, I booked a float session for the following day, the 4th of July. I even confirmed with them verbally that they would be open. On the 4th, I received three voicemails and a text between 1 PM and 5:30 PM, all asking if I could come in earlier "since it was the 4th." When I finally answered at 5:30 PM, I explained I couldn't change my plans. The staff member then casually mentioned, "Well, the owner wants to leave early." That comment really threw me. Given their strict cancellation and rescheduling policy, I expected more professionalism and consistency from the business side as well. Still, I agreed to reschedule for Sunday. By Sunday, I was feeling a little skeptical but still hopeful. The front desk associate was kind and thorough in walking me through what to expect. I appreciated that. But once I got into the float, the excitement faded quickly. The water wasn't warm enough--more lukewarm than relaxing. There was only one towel, no seating in the room, and overall, the environment felt bare for the $95 non-member price. I found myself bored just 10 minutes in. An hour felt way too long for what was offered. Ultimately, the lackluster float experience combined with the awkward rescheduling situation on the 4th left a sour impression. As someone who works in customer service, I understand the desire to end the day early, especially on a holiday--but it shouldn't come at the cost of the guest experience. Unfortunately, I wouldn't recommend the Float Therapy at Kume Spa based on this visit. Oh - also not to mention there is an additional $5 fee for debit/credit card users. So, my entire float was $70 instead of the advertised $65.00 for first try fee. read more

So this place was absolutely amazing! Honestly it's better than amazing! My husband and I came for the float therapy Groupon special and it was totally worth it! $53 for an hour float! Just fantastic! It was honestly one of the best experiences I've ever had at a spa! The float situation was so different... you go in and wash wash wash then you put in your ear plugs and get into the float tank. Let me just say this is the most relaxing experience you may ever have if you can just RELAX. That was the hard part for me I wasn't relaxing originally but then I finally grabbed the neck pillow and boom I was able to soak up the experience. In the end I was sad I only did the 1 hour next time we want to do the 90 minutes. Customer service here is always amazing and we are definitely going to be back. read more

After months working ourselves too hard in the boatyard, everything hurt. We decided that a cryo freeze would be worth a try to help with inflammation. We bought Groupons, which made this an excellent value. Located across from Lake Merritt, this location (not to be confused with their spa location just a few doors down) is newly decorated, and has a nice enough vibe. The cryo chamber is pretty fancy. They provide socks, slippers, gloves and ear muffs, and give the choice of three temperatures. The middle level was plenty cold but not unbearable. I'd probably try the highest level next time. We both felt refreshed and a bit less sore in the hours after our freeze. It wasn't long lasting, but neither was our break from the hard physical labor, so that's on us. read more

I love this place! My favorite is the cryotherapy. I typically do the -200 at three minutes. My body feels amazing from the inside out. After the cryo like to relax in the red light therapy cocoon. Both these treatments help reduce inflammation, and increases healing. Especially since I ruptured my Achilles, I feel these services helped my Achilles heal at accelerated rate. The space is super clean very Zen, and the staff is so nice and helpful! I especially love the area. Lake Merritt has never lost its beauty and still has its charm. read more

I watched a quick video that was helpful showing the process of the pod beforehand. I went with a 30 min infrared sauna pod with the red light therapy for my face 20 min as my started. After Judith walked me over to my pod. She recommend the shower like (more space) since ir was my first time. It was super relaxing and somehow my brain new when my hour was up and got up. The nice part the pod let's you know when your hour starts and when it ends. Highly recommend to anyone trying to destress. I've also read that it can help with insomnia, stress, anxiety and relief pain. Can't wait to see how I feel the rest of the week. Definitely coming back for another session. read more

I use the gym next door and walk past this place all the time, so decided to check it out one day to use the sauna pod since the gym doesn't have a sauna. Check-in was super easy, and the pod is pretty interesting for those who've never tried it. You basically get escorted to a private room with the pod, dress down to as minimal clothing as you feel comfortable (alone, of course), climb into the pod and manually control the heat level based on how much you want to sweat during the preset 30 minute session. Personally I like to use the highest setting for a majority of the time to get the biggest bang for my buck but make sure you come hydrated if you plan to do that! Not going to lie, it can be intense but the face fans will get you through it. Then after the 30 min, you dry off, dress up and check out. I've had Kameron check me in the last couple of times and he was super friendly, so much that I signed up for the trio membership bundle to check out float and cryo at a future date. Results wise, I'm not 100% sure how the infrared technology differs from a traditional sauna (I definitely sweat a lot more in a traditional sauna) but I do like that the machine tells you how many calories you burn while in the pod so definitely a nice way to top off a good weightlifting session. Recommend to check it out at least once since first timers get member pricing! read more

I hardly write reviews, and I really wanted to enjoy this experience but this was one of those moments highlighting why it's so important for service businesses to have some basic cultural awareness. We had an appointment for the float tank and indicated that it was our first time and stressed concern because couldn't submerge our hair in the water as we had protective styles/braids. They assured us that there was a headrest in the tank and we could use a shower cap to protect our hair from getting wet -- both served to be useless. Once in the tank, I looked around for the "headrest" and realized it was a thin circular flat foam float with a hole in the middle (imagine a flat donut). So, with some hesitation, I tried it out. Within seconds of laying back in the water, hair soaked, shower cap full of water, etc. I figured I'm here and want to try to figure out how to make the most of it, so I decided to sit up instead and meditate through the other sensory deprivation experiences. That worked until the bottom of the tub started to heat up to the point that it felt like it was burning my skin. I was in the tank for maybe a maxiumum of 15-20 minutes when I decided it's not worth being this uncomfortable and got out. I explained the situation to the person at the front desk, who had been helpful and polite upon our arrival. I added that they should inform everyone that their hair will get wet - there is no way around it. Despite the fact that I was in there for a minimal amount of time, they still charged me 80% when they should have waived the fee. On top of that, after cleansing my hair, it is still caked with the salt solution, and my braids are ruined. While the place was clean and had the necessary amenities, this really soured my first-time experience at this spa. read more

I was really looking forward to a float at this location but was very disappointed. I brought a guest who had music on in their tank for most of the hour, and I could hear it clearly from inside my tank. I even turned my music on and off again to check that the sound wasn't coming from inside my own tank. I expect float spas to be able to provide a dark and quiet space, and I don't find it acceptable for sound to so easily travel to adjacent tanks for this high a price point. I am giving this a very generous 3 stars because the staff was so kind and the amenities were nice. Honestly I am more stressed out after leaving the float than when I arrived. I loved doing float tank sessions (they would help so much with my anxiety and body pain/soreness) but the place I used to go to shutdown. I tried out Kume for the first time and omg everything was so clean and the amenities were in places that made sense and it's just overall such a nice place to be in. The service with everyone that I've spoke to has been so nice, calm, professional, and clear when giving information. The pricing isn't as bad as you'd think too. I Enjoyed a 60min float at Kume! I was warmly greeted by Kim at the front desk, she shared the intro to float video before walking me to my float room. The facility is beautiful and clean they provide everything you need (earplugs, Vaseline if you have a cut to protect it from the concentrated salt water, shampoo, conditioner, body wash and body lotion, they even have a blow dry station) only thing I recommend packing is your personal face skincare post float! The actual float tank was very relaxing and transformative once I was able to settle my noisy mind. I've experienced floating in Los Angeles a few years back. I for sure will be returning to Kume for future services. They have great packages and Monthly membership rates to keep your wellness routine on point. read more
