treatment room looking super comfy!!

I came in on a Sunday with my mom and sister to celebrate my mom's 60th birthday with some good pampering. I had been interested in a head spa for a while and in visiting Kume to try out their float and cocoon sauna! Safe to say I will definitely be back for another treatment and to try other services (which extends to body scrubs and body massages too WEEEE!) We were all seen at the same time and had such a lovely experience. Amazing massage, attentive details, and such a calming ambience. My mom specifically needed a very gentle massage and her practitioner understood and she said she can't wait to do this again some time. My sister is a new mother and got even more special attention too fir relaxation and tension release. What really sold me on booking this was the value for the Deluxe scalp treatment that had upper body dry brush & massage with facial massage. As an esthetician myself I can say everything together was priced so fair AND even better to have an introductory discount for our first visit. All in all, the team was great, it was greatly needed for all of us and we left feeling very relaxed and happy to come back again. I can't wait to try more with Kume!

So this place was absolutely amazing! Honestly it's better than amazing! My husband and I came for the float therapy Groupon special and it was totally worth it! $53 for an hour float! Just fantastic! It was honestly one of the best experiences I've ever had at a spa! The float situation was so different... you go in and wash wash wash then you put in your ear plugs and get into the float tank. Let me just say this is the most relaxing experience you may ever have if you can just RELAX. That was the hard part for me I wasn't relaxing originally but then I finally grabbed the neck pillow and boom I was able to soak up the experience. In the end I was sad I only did the 1 hour next time we want to do the 90 minutes. Customer service here is always amazing and we are definitely going to be back.

Feel sore? Visit. Feel tired? Visit. Training for a marathon? Visit frequently! The customer service is remarkable. Everyone cares. I can say this whole heartedly because I was a whiny, blubbering mess after 10k at Lake Chabot and they kindly accomodated my request to be rejuvenated. If you haven't floated before you are in for a treat! There is a cryo treatment that I'll be doing after higher mileage. I'll blow dry my hair first and do that. There is an instructional video that lacks hyperbole. Follow the instructions. It is quite accurate and warmly delivers the message :)

Staff was very helpful and informative on the cryo, also showed me the float which I plan on trying next time. I would recommend going professional mode on the cryo. Overall awesome experience for me and a couple of friends after hitting the gym. Its literally in and out where between 3 people we were done within 30 minutes. Check this place out if you want to focus on recovery after training. The tea and vibe is so chill here as well.

Had an amazing experience here. Went in for the salt float and a foot massage and was so well taken care of! Thank you to the staff for the services and unlimited date chrysanthemum tea!

1st walking in... the young lady was very nice and down to earth.. we laugh and that made me feel very welcomed... very clean and inviting.. it was my 1st time .. and I wanted to get over stress and my extreme anxiety...but I had bad anxiety going in the pod suite ... only because I was left alone... then the lights went out ...but being my 1st time I didn't know what to expect ...but being a yelper I knew going in how the pod would be ... but it was something I needed but not expected... I couldn't get my thoughts straight....but it will take time to get used to and I can see myself definitely going back again....definitely is what I need ....

I was greeted immediately with a warm welcome. Judith was amazing and explained the process for the float pod and infrared pod. I watched a quick video that was helpful showing the process of the pod beforehand. I went with a 30 min infrared sauna pod with the red light therapy for my face 20 min as my started. After Judith walked me over to my pod. She recommend the shower like (more space) since ir was my first time. It was super relaxing and somehow my brain new when my hour was up and got up. The nice part the pod let's you know when your hour starts and when it ends. Highly recommend to anyone trying to destress. I've also read that it can help with insomnia, stress, anxiety and relief pain. Can't wait to see how I feel the rest of the week. Definitely coming back for another session.

Very enlightening floating experience. Helpful and sensitive staff. Came here after a loss to do some processing and I left feeling centered. It was my first experience, highly recommend :)

The studio is pristine, welcoming, and set up for total relaxation. I booked an infrared sauna session and added on the HaloOne halotherapy (salt) treatment, and it was pure bliss. The infrared and red light setup is fantastic. Because it uses light wavelengths to heat your body directly rather than just making the room stiflingly hot, it gave me a true, heavy, from-the-inside-out thermal sweat. It felt incredibly detoxifying and did wonders for my tight muscles after hitting the gym. The absolute highlight was the halo treatment. The specialized unit mounted on the wall releases a smooth, calming stream of micro-salt particles that fills the booth. Breathing it in felt so refreshing for my lungs, and the visual of the steam filling the space added a whole new level of zen. Sitting there with a fresh cooling towel, absorbing the red light therapy, and letting the halo stream do its magic was the ultimate luxury. I left feeling completely rejuvenated, light, and relaxed. If you are looking for top-tier recovery or just a private, peaceful escape to sweat it out, this place is a must-visit in Berkeley. Excellent facilities and an amazing experience!

Felt super refreshed and…read morerejuvenated afterwards would highly recommend trying if you've never been to a Korean type spa or just in the area (have to book in advance!) Facilities were clean and lovely, they have the spas and massage rooms on the first floor and a clay and salt room on the second floor. There is a vanity room where there are plenty of snacks and water/coffee/tea for you to rehydrate yourself with. I believe you get an hour before and after your appointment to enjoy all the amenities. And if you get the scrub highly recommend coming early and softening up your skin in the spas beforehand. I got the silverbell 1 hour message, which comes with the scrub, massage, and also a hair wash. The lady was super gentle and checked in on me whether that was the water temperature, scrub pressure or the massage strength. I thought with everything going on in this it might feel too rushed but time felt well budgeted.

Actual rating: 3 1/2 stars…read more Women only spa by appointment only. Day passes available but only the day of if there happen to be cancellations. Otherwise, you'll need to book a service at least a month in advance. It's situated in Japantown. If you're driving, I recommend parking in the garage as street parking is either by permit and limited to two hours. They kindly pushed our scrub time to later since one of our party members was running a bit behind. This is the first Korean place I've been to where they requested you come an hour earlier versus thirty minutes. Seemed like a long time to soak. There's also no clock inside the actual bathing area, so difficult to keep track of time. Also, first time going to a Korean spa where they want it to be absolutely silent. I get that they are going for a relaxed environment, but kind of difficult to just soak for an hour and not chit chat amongst ourselves. The shower/soaking area is on the smaller side and for some reason, they didn't have any stools for the sitting bathing areas available. There's one hot tub, one ice tub, a dry sauna, and steam sauna. This would have been more of a three-star experience for me if not for the scrub. My ahjumma, Lee, was great; very attentive and did a very thorough job! Not mentioned in the list of services, but they also wash your hair and face as well as part of the thirty-minute scrub. After our scrub, we headed upstairs to try out the Himalayan salt room and the red clay room. They had staff cleaning throughout so they definitely take cleanliness seriously. Locker room area has lots of Aveda product toiletries and blow dryers available for after. As we were leaving, they gave a face and eye mask which was much appreciated. I can see this being a go-to place if you live in the city, especially if you prioritize relaxation and cleanliness. Just be sure to make an appointment ahead of time.

Nobody asked for a Kabuki vs OnsenSF comparison, but here…read moreyou go. 1. $$$ Price Kabuki is $49/pp 2.5 hrs OnsenSF in the tenderloin is $50/pp 2 hours 2. Environment & Ambience: Kabuki has a much wider space, calming music, great ambience, wonderful smells and decor. OnsenSF is a dining space when you enter and spa in the back. Everything looks modern and nice, relaxing environment despite being located in the tenderloin. 3. Hot Tub: Kabuki has a rectangle shaped hot tub as opposed to OnsenSF's square shaped tub. 4. Cold plunge: Kabuki has a cold plunge that's perfect for people who don't need it to be extremely freezing. OnsenSF has a cold shower with many heads in place of a cold plunge. Both are enjoyable experiences 5. Steam Room: Kabuki's steam room is also rectangular as opposed to OnsenSF's square room. Kabuki's steam room also has a shower to rinse off excess salt and sweat before entering the common area. 6. Showers: At Kabuki, there's also a line of stools for the seated handheld showers where you can fill a tub of water and pour it over yourself in addition to the traditional shower stalls, where OnsenSF only has the traditional showers if I recall correctly. 7. Sauna: The sauna was great because you could adjust the heat by moving up the wooden bleachers. There was also plenty of space to stretch out and lie down. There were wooden half-cylinder blocks to place under the neck and back to promote blood flow. My partner's favorite standout was the salt scrub they have that's free to take at the refreshments table. You use it to scrub away dead skin in the shower and steam room. My favorite was the bowl of towels buried in ice cubes that helped me keep a cool head in the hot tub and sauna room. I will say that the thing that makes OnsenSF stand out is their dining pop-ups, but there's plenty of dining options on Fillmore and in Japantown. I would definitely go back to Kabuki again. The experience was incredibly relaxing. Highly recommend.

Possibly the best bathhouse in the Bay Area…read more Kabuki Springs is tucked away off a busy street in Japantown and feels like a portal to another dimension, one full of warm water, a quiet atmosphere, and plenty of lemon ginger tea. I was instantly drawn to how intentional everything feels here, from the dark wood of the sauna to the sleek tile in the showers. It feels carefully crafted to be both modern and timeless, with the Japanese motif flowing through all of the design. Personally, I love the dim lighting in the baths; with no windows, it feels like time is suspended. Is it midday, or midnight? Sunny, stormy? Early, late? You can't really tell when you're there, and that feels like the point. It's an escape in its truest, most relaxing sense. Attendants are constant in the baths, which makes it feel far more luxurious than what the price would suggest. Cucumber, lemon, or plain water are all on tap, as are iced hand towels, salt scrubs for the steam room, and hot lemon ginger tea. I loved how cups are encouraged to be reused (I hate seeing the giant pile of single-use cups in the trash at other spas). I'm holding out hope, however, that traditional green tea may make an appearance in the future! I'd recommend attending on one of the single-gender days, as I found that lent itself best to the fully immersive experience. Shower sandals are available, though I found them a bit uncomfortable. Next time I'll be sure to bring my own. As a bathhouse enthusiast, I cannot recommend this place enough. I can't wait to bring my friends here to learn for themselves just how relaxing and rejuvenating the sauna, steam, soak, and plunge rotation can be.
