Cold Plunge

Meliza, owner, has curated the most beautiful, welcoming, soothing, and relaxing experience. From the moment you walk through the doors, you feel at home. Everyone who works at Worthy are also so wonderful and helpful. Their greetings and smiles are so genuine. And you can feel the care in everything they do to make your experience the best ever. Not only is the ambience amazing, the details from the selection of Republic of Teas and bathroom amenities further demonstrate the care for the overall experience. The high ceilings, natural lights, live plants, and private rooms make you feel like you are both in a private cocoon and also in a natural oasis. And ALL the services are top notch. I have tried every service and love them all. My current favorites are the Red Light Therapy followed by the Infrared Sauna and finished with a Guided Cold Plunge. I cannot say enough great things about the services - each offering me something different. But they all leave me feeling refreshed, invigorated, and glowing! I also think the Guided Cold Plunge is a service that everyone should try. It's hard to put into words, but it's both one of the hardest things I have ever done but also one of the most mentally and physically rewarding. I tell everyone about Worthy because I truly believe we all deserve and need time spent at Worthy! Thank you!

Was looking for a place that does Cryotherapy, and happened to run into someone that worked at Worthy Self-Care studio who said she'd help take care of me.. I called the following week and the woman who answered said she could take a message for that person... when I gave the message to pass along, they gave an awkward pause, then said actually that person no longer works there as of just a few days ago... The awkwardness of the interaction was off-putting, so I said I'd call back. Later that day, I received 2 missed calls from this business (+1 (510) 496-1514) - with zero voice messages - and when I called back to see why they called, nobody answered. That was last week. Since then I've received 10 more missed calls!! TEN!! & no voicemails ever!! Like some weird stalker.. & every time I call back (today was within minutes of their missed calls as I work long hours M-Thur & haven't had my phone on me until after business hours), they don't answer. This is super unprofessional and extremely weird behavior.. Why are you all calling me obsessively and even worse not leaving any corresponding voicemails. Literally having to block this business for harassment.

As a new mom, I am thrilled to have a local spa with childcare available onsite. I signed up for the infrared sauna and guided cold plunge to experience the new spa in town. With baby in tow, there was ample street parking in the morning so we easily parked and found the spa. Lovely to have a real treat on Ashby Ave! It was my first time in an infrared sauna sweating happily. I enjoyed sitting with my thoughts while smelling the sauna and feeling the warmth without getting super hot. The facilities are clean and well-stocked. Definitely use the lavender wipe offered and the loo. The sitting area is lovely inside for your breather between sessions. Turns out I can't get through the cold plunge (it's like a polar plunge) without freaking out and hopping out, and three cheers to my guide for being ok with me taking 1-3 breaths with her before exiting the water in a hurry. I have good memories of the cold plunge at Harbin Hot Springs (which was warm comparatively), and a decent experience running from Finnish sauna to lake in the winter (but now in retrospect I did swim in a hurry because it was so cold), so I was surprised by how my body was not willing to stay under water for a 3-minute cold plunge to experience the health benefits. Being super-warm right before getting into icy-cold water helped a lot (and I really do enjoy a circuit), so perhaps this slow-breathing situation is not my bag. I did buy the 5 credit pack at Worthy so I'll come back and try different things on the menu, perhaps bring a family member or friend to share a sauna!

Worthy is the self-care space I didn't know I needed. Obsessed with this place. From the outside, it's a gorgeous spa-looking like space, but inside it is as beautiful as it is smart. Worthy is filled with the latest technology in science-backed self-care healing modalities, and that is tied to a beautiful hammam-like feel to make the space both healing and relaxing. The owner, Meliza, is so so incredibly knowledgeable and welcoming and you can tell that every part of the space, from the cold plunge to the NuCalm to the red light therapy, has been carefully researched to bring only the best of each technology to people. Between the decor and selection of healing modalities, you can tell Worthy has been created with the utmost care and attention to detail, to give the utmost care to people. They also have a child care space! I personally use a red light mask at home and was curious about red light therapy for the rest of my body especially since I was experiencing some inflammation in my arm that day. It was a quick visit but I felt like my arm improved and we enjoyed some tea in the community space. Would definitely come back!

Worthy is truly the most special place - a healing haven that has easily become the thing I look forward to every week. I regularly do several of their modalities -- infrared sauna and red light therapy have truly helped me be more balanced and my skin and body have changed with adding these to my wellness routine. I've also tried Cryoskin and ballancerpro lymphatic drainage and starting to see some sculpting results! I also had a transformative experience through their guided cold plunging -- Kaysha is a lovely, supportive, encouraging guide who made my experience perfect. Meliza and the entire staff are so welcoming and knowledgeable, not to mention, location is in a super cute area!

This place is a magical sanctuary for self care. The space is absolutely beautiful and brings a feeling of peace. I highly recommend trying the sauna + cold plunge - you will feel like a new person afterwards! Kaysha is the sweetest! She guided my cold plunge and my breath work and I couldn't have asked for a better experience. The owner, Meliza is amazing and offers so many services. I highly recommend everyone go check out this oasis of self care in Berkeley!

As a health care practitioner I recognize the importance of taking time for self-care practices. Worthy is an incredible space with an amazing team and I am always recommending them to patients, friends and family alike. I personally love cold-plunging and red-light therapy; these really help me continue to perform at my best both in practice and in work outs. All of their therapies are fantastic for nervous system down-regulation which is so important for healing and adapting to the stressors in our lives. If you're unsure what might work for you don't hesitate to ask the staff - they're so knowledgeable and helpful. Get yourself in and experience the serenity, nurturing, support and community of Worthy! You owe it to yourself!

It's not going to be a gentle relaxing massage, but this sports massage will be worth the temporary discomfort to have the underlying issues worked through. He's also really good at distracting me while he's doing all the fixing. All of my gratitude for the work he does. Kind, caring, observant, funny, and honest about what's happening with my body, this business lives up to the name Feeling Better. Thank you for everything.

WARNING: SEX PEST!!!…read more I made an appointment with this guy based on his many 5-star reviews here on Yelp. It was a massive mistake not to further investigate. I booked an extra long massage because I've been struggling with intense back and hip pain. I took a Xanax shortly before our session to help me relax; I've been under a lot of pressure at work. Unfortunately, I became so relaxed that I pushed aside my awareness that this guy was crossing all kinds of boundaries. It wasn't until after I left and the meds wore off that I acknowledged to myself just how inappropriate this guy was. Here are some examples: 1. In response to my apology for running a few mins late, he said I should NEVER apologize, this experience all about me, and he made some comment about white men getting too much as it is. The remarks just felt like pandering, both over the top and calculated. 2. I asked him how he got into massage. He responded by saying that his ex-wife cheated on him and then he was fired from his job, where he was "making mistakes" but it wasn't his fault because he'd been poorly trained. Possible but also raises questions, including as to why he would share this info with a brand new client. He didn't even answer the question, lol. 3. He said that he was told in massage school that he has "no business being a massage therapist." Those were his words. I wondered what on earth could've prompted a professor or administrator to say that to a student. Well, by the end of our session, and especially after reading the other 1-star reviews (all written by women), I can certainly guess! 4. He pressed along my pelvic bone and bladder without warning. This is a sensitive area in more than one way, and I found the move to be totally inappropriate and unnecessary, 5. He kept resting his head on my calf, over and over again, lifting it from the table and holding it against his cheek. 6. He kept resting his head on my calf, over and over again, lifting it from the table and holding it against his cheek. 7. He kept telling jokes and making reference to sexually charged SNL skits and laughing at them at length. As in, long after I stopped responding. 8. He truly did not stop chattering away. 9. For good measure, he made reference to family members who accuse him of being a deadbeat. Just... why are you sharing this?? After some thought, I asked for a refund, citing his oversharing, inappropriate touching, and the many reviews that call him out for both. He promptly returned my money. Thanks, but it's not going to stop me from warning other women / femme presenting people about this guy. And dudes, don't support this guy. We need you to be our allies.

From the moment you sit down to talk to him about what is going on with your body, his full attention is fixed on you. Its hard to explain but you will become aware that you are being completely heard, and that all of your concerns are being noted and affirmed. I am very adamant about having deep tissue massage, and recently had one elsewhere that got down to the grizzle, but didn't feel loving. Eli combines a great sensitivity with his strong pressure. He encourages you to sigh and breathe when he hits a rough spot (and oh man did I have some bad knots in my shoulders...). He has incredible touch. I literally felt like I was floating afterwards and sort of rested for a good 10 minutes before I got up. Again, the benefit of this not being a salon but at his home is that you are not being ushered out in a hurry. I felt so cared for and relaxed. You have no idea what you are missing until you experience an Eli massage. Either you'll believe me or you wont, but know that you'll only benefit inexplicably from one of the two options.

It's clean, quaint and cozy-- although not a "luxury" spa environment I believe the massages absolutely compensate for it. I've also found this place to be a bit more on the affordable side compared to other Thai massage spots in the Bay Area. There are even 30 min services that run on average below $60 which I love. I've came once to just get a 30 min upper body massage because of a stiff shoulder and I swear they helped me so much with it. Purple will subvert the notion and deliver you a signature hug, in which he starts massaging you with the back of his wrist as portent of things to come. It's worth noting that Purple, will be wearing purple, and will be amidst his many purple accessories. As one might expect he is soft and down to earth, comfortable, and energetic. ==Purple's Technique== Purple's technique I heard described as a combination of Thai and Shiatsu massage. Yet that his not entirely telling, because the treatment also involves Power Tools. Two electric deck sanders - noncircular oscillation I believe he described it - are converted with rubber pads (purple) in place of sandpaper. This can seem very jarring at first, but are wielded to great ends. I imagine it similar to electric drumming, when drummers would think that using a electronic drums and drum machines was 'cheating'; but it's clear now that the idea of 'cheating' in arts is absurd, and it's about what you can achieve with your medium. The massage is very much a combination and waves of techniques. First you'll be kneaded, then "buffed out" using the Ryobi electric sanders, and lastly follow into passive stretching. During this point you can allow yourself limp and let Purple stretch your in acrobatic ways. He'll become sweaty and as he sips on his purple water bottle, you'll feel like you've done Yoga, it's just that he did all the effortful parts. ==Partner Massage== It's worth noting that Purple offers Partner Massage. I'd never heard of such a thing, but I went with my girlfriend to experience it. I thought that at some point I'd be called upon to massage her with Purple, or her me, but in fact is quit the opposite. Purple is undaunted by the prospect of massing two people at once. The way the Purple massages you both at the same time takes many forms; treating the mass of two as one massageable object, utilizing one person to massage another, and switching between the two. At first my partner as I laid side-by-side and Purple kneaded us as if we were a conjoined twin. Later the partner aspects grew more integrated, when he would use Person A's hands, arms, legs and joints, to massage with and through to Person B. Then in a lesson of contorted Psychics Person A was used as a stretching lever to Person B. Othertimes Person B will be laying horizontally ontop of A, and the Ryobi deck sanders will vibrate A using B as an intermediary. All of this is difficult to conceptualize, but was remarkably pleasant. It's actually something you can do with your partner, and enhanced because of it. Purple is very open, and my girlfriend and I kissed at times owing to the relaxed atmosphere that was being projected. Don't take partner massage as a weird joke, it's a logical generalization of the tradition that massage is between one masseur and one receiver. ==The Space== If you elect not to have Purple come to you, but go his home studio, you can enter his world of Purpleness. The furnishings are a shrine to the Color, which add to the ambiance. Likewise a solid rotation of chill psy-trance-esque massage music will abound, which for all intents sounds like Purple at that point. ==Conclusion== Clearly, Purple's style is unusual in some points, it's not standard massage. That is a good thing, because experimentation can lead to improvements and further the art.
