Went in for my first massage here today and was really happy I did. The space was beautiful, very calming and intentionally decorated to be soothing and comfy. The massage itself was wonderful and I was extra happy that the area I asked for help and attention to was the focus and yet didn't leave me hurting after. The bed and room were heated and pleasant, I was asked often how I was doing and the massage felt deeply personal to my body and needs versus rote movements in a practiced order. The massage therapist, Kampol Crews, does his magic within a beautiful and serene dwelling that's a B&B--his wife owns. When you enter, you take off your shoes and he'll ask if you'd like some tea or would like to use the bathroom. Kampol's overall vibe is very calming and his massage techniques truly therapy. He also taught me about proper head/neck positioning while on a massage table which really made all the difference in loosening up my muscles which in the past week have been seized up in cross country flights. I'm writing this in my car minutes after my massage because I really feel the need to share how wonderful, thorough and healing my experience was with Kampol. I left walking taller, body aligned and with a smile creeping onto my face. I have recently returned to Kampol for the second time and have upgraded from three to five stars. Here's why: Kampol took my initial feedback to heart. He gave sincere appreciation for my review, and expressed how helpful it was to him. Some time later he checked-in with me again, and I decided to give his work another try. The massage was outstanding! He performed a variety of long flowing strokes in the first phase of the massage. This had a relaxing and calming effect. Then the massage become some kind of relaxing blur - there was a twisting move where he worked on my hip and shoulder simultaneously. This spiral move had the effect of turning me to jelly. I was in an altered state for hours afterward. He knew just how far to go with some stretches, and so I always felt comfortable. The massage was done at an enjoyable, slow pace. This was the great improvement from my first visit. Also very important is Kampol's holistic approach to massage. I work a 8-9 hour desk job that requires me to sit most of the day. My neck and overall back hurts often and so does my lower arms. I am also often very tense and have tight spots on my body. Kampol is an extremely thoughtful, friendly, and skilled masseuse. His strength is fantastic and he knows when to apply great pressure. He put great focus on areas that were problematic for me. Hate to be petty, but I can't let someone accuse me of being a liar. Here is evidence of the following: 1. Tranquility Rx did threaten to cancel my last Groupon massage despite the fact that a) I had always rescheduled well in advance of 24 hours, and (2) On their website/emails/in person they had never stated it was a policy that you could not reschedule appointments. 2. A $25 fee would be incurred if you canceled within 24 hours of your appointment. It should not occur if you cancelled well beyond 24 hours of your appointments. This is an email I received on April 9. Please note I had always cancelled my appointments in advance of 24 hours. "This is the third time we have attempted to book your second of three introductory massages. Please understand that If you cannot make this next appointment the session will be forfeit. Please make sure it works for you since introductory offers and not transferable to others... Cancellation Policy: Should you cancel within 24 hours of your scheduled treatment, you will incur $25 fee. I had an INCREDIBLE massage with Kampol this last weekend. He is a true healer! I was so relaxed in his care, and it was amazing to feel how he slowly brought any pain/knots in my back to the surface, and then gracefully released them from my body. At one point I was so blissed out I felt as if there were five hands massaging me! I loved what great care he took to massage everything - my neck, my back, my arms, my hands, my fingers, my legs, my feet, my toes. I bought a Yelp coupon a little less than a year ago and I'm so glad I did! I began training for a marathon a week ago and my body was simply falling apart, with little hope I decided maybe a massage would help? IT DID. Before going to the massage I was having back pain, hip pain, and heel pain. After seeing Kampol I went for a run the following day and my back felt infinitely better, the hip pain gone, and the heel pain was lessened (though I'm not sure if this was directly related to the massage! :P) Anyway, I highly recommend Kampol, he's very friendly and he definitely rejuvenated my body! So I heard about this from amazon local, it had very good reviews in yelp, and it wasn't too fat from me anyways. Parking on a Tuesday can be difficult because around 1230-3 they do street sweeping, so u can park on the street! So I ask the guy if I can park in his driveway and graciously he let me! Walked in his house and noted calming/ relaxation vibe. I liked it! Asked me if I wanted water or tea. I picked tea and got to pick out a flavor. The room was nicely decorated and very relaxing. He instructed me to do what every massage place does ("get comfortable, u can our your clothes in the box, get onto the table face down, I'll be back".) He asked me to pick out a scent for the message oil, I noted lavender but also wanted a kind of eucalyptus scent. So he mixed them and it was perfect! I've had hundreds of professional massages in my life, and Kampol really is as good as it gets. He uses a special technique, using his forearms a lot, with constant, deep, slow, sweeping motions across your body. This technique helps your parasympathetic nervous sytem relax. There was no digging into the knots on my back, the kind of deep tissue where you're wondering how much more pain you can take. His hands and arms are moving and on you virtually the entire time. Excellent massage and service! I received my prenatal/cranial sacral treatment last night. Kampol is the very thorough and hard working. He continuously revisited ever area by circling the table rather than being semi stationary. I really enjoyed the fluid mechanics of the treatment and deep pressure. I feel like he is very confident and familiar with his work compared to other pro massage therapists I have hired. The space is clean, inviting, bright, and peaceful. I saw him for the first time today and here's what I liked about my experience: *Kampol has a very nice calming presence and manner *He uses a combination of modalities that makes for a very customized treatment. What he told me he used today: table Thai (not sure if those are two different types), shiatsu, Lomi, and some others I've now forgotten *His head massage was really, really nice *He addressed the areas that I told him about: tight upper back and shoulders, tight hips but I think also was intuitive with the treatment since I wasn't in great pain and hadn't told him where specifically my neck or hips could use some relief *His location is within walking distance from my home *His studio is also very nice and welcoming *Great first time deal through Yelp--do it! I didn't have any major issues to address for this visit and had no idea what to expect but walked away feeling very relaxed and satisfied. Got a yelp deal and boy, was it worth it. At first, I was a little wierded out because upon arriving at the address, I find that it is a residential area. Turns out, he works out of his home. Luckily, there is plenty of parking. But once he brought me into the massage room, you forget that you're in someone's house. I bought 3 massages through a Groupon deal, and while many customers noted that they had a hard time rescheduling, the quality of the massages seemed to be good so I took a chance. The first massage was average - nothing special. The second massage actually blew my mind - it was probably the best massage I've EVER had! He did a lot of movement (something about no-hands massages) but really stretched me out and it felt amazing. I was on cloud 9! I told him this, and he said it would only get better as we got more comfortable with each other and whatnot (sounds a bit creepy, but he seems into aura and vibe stuff so I didn't take it negatively). I show up to the 3rd massage, excited to ask him how to become a member and maybe I should instead go up to a 90 minute massage, etc, but to my horror it was a truly awful massage. It was boring, mostly just pressing in areas with little to no movement. I ended up leaving without asking my original questions, because if 2 out of 3 massages are average or worse, I'm not really interested. I'm just so confused because that 2nd one was truly amazing. I prefer to rate mostly based on skill, but he's also kind of awkward, which made things before and after the appointment just weird. I'm definitely not into the whole "energy-healing" thing like he is, but I had a hard time even having minimal conversation. We will not pay Groupon for recurring clients." Fair enough, except that it's really unprofessional, rude and annoying to change the terms of an agreement after you've already made the agreement. Now I am currently working with Groupon to try to get a refund. A lot of hassle could have been saved simply by noting in the fine print that this offer is only available for new clients.
