I was lucky to find this place, not knowing much about the local massage parlors. I have arthritis in my hip and knee. A month ago I could hardly walk with the leg stiffness and pain. I am supposed to have the hip replaced in October. I decided to try a massage just to see if it would help me walk better. I went in for an hour massage and was lucky enough to get Lina. She concentrated on the knee and hip, as requested, but did the full body massage so I was totally relaxed. When she was finished my leg felt 100% better and my limp was almost gone. The results were amazing, so good I booked 90 minutes a week later. Once again, Lina did her magic and my hip and knee pain continued to decrease. My limp getting better and the aches at night diminishing. Today was my 4th time with Lina, this time 2 hours. I am walking without a limp and considering canceling the hip replacement surgery. Wonderful Spa is truly a hidden gem! This is a place that provides exceptional service. I came here after experiencing back pain. I saw Mei. Throughout the whole massage, Mei was very considerate of my pain. She is very knowledgeable and explained how the pain came to be and how I can help alleviate it. She applied very strong pressure in the moments that I needed and just enough for moments of relaxation. I can say that I never had such a perfectly relaxing but effective massage for pain. Booked two one-hour "combo 2" massages (30 min foot, 30 min body) with David and Mei, which took place in a shared open space with just three massage chairs that convert into beds. This was a clothed massage, but we rolled up our pants legs while our feet were in the bucket of water. Our massage therapists did an awesome job this past Saturday. The foot reflexology was effective, especially the slow pressure on the bottom of my feet. My masseur, David, followed the form I filled out beforehand, in which customers mark an X on parts of the body not wanting treatment and circle areas of desired focus. He brought so much relief to my shins and both upper and lower legs. And the pressure was hard, as I had requested, but not painful. He did good work on my back and shoulders too, with use of the forearms and elbows along with great technique. My bf was happy with his massage as well, which is a big deal since he's actually hard to please when it comes to massages. Our session was therapeutic and satisfying, with instrumental melodies playing in the background, adding to the pleasant atmosphere and experience. We paid in advance, and tipped afterward in cash. Moved to Berkeley recently and spent quite a while trying to find a massage spot that has reasonable pricing but doesn't compromise on quality. THIS IS THE SPOT. It's a quaint, no-frills spot tucked next to a cafe on Bancroft. Nothing fancy, but they absolutely get the job done. I booked a 60 minute full body with Mei. You first pay up front (tip after) and fill out a quick form about where you want the focus, how much pressure, etc. The rooms are small and not soundproof, but they play soft, soothing music that keeps things calm. Mei is INCREDIBLE. She explained her process at the start, then went to work on the tightness in my back, shoulders, and neck that I've had for years. She used a Chinese-style technique, kind of a blend of deep tissue and acupressure, so her thumbs, elbows, and palms helped find all the tight spots along my back and shoulders and focused on specific pressure points. It was intense but so worth it, I could literally feel my muscles letting go. Definitely not a ~fall asleep/relax~ type of massage, but I wanted more therapeutic relief than relaxation, so parts of it were that ~hurts so good~ kind of feeling. I walked out sore, but with such relief. Before trying any new technique or moving the blanket, she always asked for consent, which made the whole experience feel respectful and safe. Ive had the combo massage with Mei for 90 minutes and it is very relaxing. She really gets into the problem areas noted ahead. It is very similar to massages I received while living in Taiwan. I recommend this shop if you're looking for a no nonsense massage. It is family run and they are very nice and run a clean store. Do expect to a short wait if you try to walk in or schedule last minute with a specific massage therapist. As with all massage shops, they have a limited amount of staff. It's worth the wait. Don't trust bad reviews--- I witnessed a very entitled and rude customer come in while I was getting a massage and throw a hissy fit because the staff member she wanted was running behind 15 minutes with the client scheduled before her. The customer threatened a bad yelp review if the shop didn't give her 30 minutes extra for free for waiting - she had only originally booked a 60 minute massage. She repeated this to every staff member who tried to de-escalate the hissy fit, including her therapist when she finally finished her previous client and arrived at the woman's room. I needed a massage, but didn't want to return to my last person, who, when I pointed to my arms and legs and asked her to devote time to those areas, proceeded to work only on my back. So...it was my lucky day when I happened to pass Wonderful Spa. I went in and learned they did Tui Na, my favorite kind of massage. However, this style was very different. Rose worked more slowly and seemed to work out the pain from each and every muscle. And yes, she did work on my arms and legs as well as my back, neck, and feet. Wow, amazing experience. Called and walked in for a 30 minute foot massage. Neat and tidy place. To my surprise, a short shoulder and neck massage was part of the experience while feet are soaking. All of the massage was Extremely skilled and relaxing. I know such specific pressure must be rough on the masseuse's joints over time. I'd love to bring some joint cream or some small gift and would encourage others to too. The masseuse's definitely go above and beyond and should be paid more for the labor imo. read more

I went to Berkeley and am now back for MBA. I've always noticed this massage place but never went. I got a massage from them for the first time yesterday and it was hands down the best massage I've got in the states. I've been having back pain problems for years and have very specific pain points that are hard to locate. David knew exactly where they are without me telling him. But this is more of a traditional Chinese massage aiming to fix your problems but not necessarily just to help you relax like the Thai massages. So if you can't handle pressure well, you should def let them know. The place was very clean and David and his wife are both super nice!! My boyfriend purchased a "70 minute couple body and foot massage with sea salt soak, hot (like burning hot, I thought it was gonna burn my hair off) sea salt bag, and hot stones" from Groupon. There seems to be a reoccurring trend that they either do not keep up with their Groupon appointments?? My boyfriend and I walked in and they seemed absolutely shocked to see us. It took a lot of convincing that we had in fact purchased the above stated service on Groupon. Clearly, the other masseuse had just gone on lunch because my boyfriend had to wait 30 minutes for his service to begin. The lady at the fronts bedside manner was... rough. She was mildly argumentative about the fact that we had booked an appointment. In the end, she massaged my entire body... excluding my feet??? I've never experienced a massage that didn't include feet. It was especially surprising given that the title of the service is stated verbatim up above. The massage was less than 70 minutes?? There was no sea salt soak?? I am left with more questions than answers. Did the massage feel nice? Sure. Did they somehow skip over what they had explicitly stated was included in the massage? IE massaging my feet and this alleged sea salt soak? Definitely. Did they cut the time that we had paid for short? Yeah. I would suggest just not coming here. read more

I was staying in the area the other night and found myself with an evening to myself. I checked around for a massage place and found Wonderful Spa, with availability that night! My body was sore all over, so I splurged and got a 30 minute foot massage and a 60 minute body massage and, oh boy, was that the best 90 minutes of my month so far. It was about what I expected - a good massage for an affordable price. It's a few-frills place and, honestly, I'd choose fewer frill and better massage any day of the week. It's a bunch of smaller rooms partitioned by curtains; you can totally hear what else is going on in the space (door opening/closing, people coming in, talking, toilet flushing, footsteps, etc). If I'm looking to fall asleep during a massage, I maybe wouldn't go here, but if your muscles ache, definitely head here. I left in a delightful haze and my body was no longer sore. Hesitated to write this review but hard to ignore the facts - I arrived for my massage and there was some pushback about payment. I booked directly through their site and paid half as deposit, and had my receipt clearly showing my paid deposit and the other half as due at appointment. It took a few minutes of explanation/convincing that I only owed half of the massage fee and not have to pay the full amount (odd because this was through their own booking site? surely they know? maybe just trying to get more money?) Next I went for the massage which was uncomfortable. I know massages are meant to be somewhat painful at times especially for deep tissue and muscle knot removal but this was next level. About half of the massage was based on the masseuse's body weight applied to my body and not their arm/hand pressure (i.e. a 170+ lb male on my 110 lb frame) which is obviously more comfortable for them but makes it much harder for them to control amount of pressure applied. As a result, I noticed two welts on my body post-massage, one on my top right shoulder blade and the other on my arm from when the masseuse did arm massaging - see photo (taken a week post massage! it was much much larger and more discolored the day of the massage). The welt on my back was so painful that I had to sleep on my stomach for 2 nights post massage. Lastly (& honestly I was ready to overlook all of this because this is a cheaper massage by bay area standards): The place is a bit old/creaky, but no big deal. The masseuse had their phone in the room during massage and it went off at least 3-4 times, one of those times the masseuse stopped the massage and took their phone out of the room for a minute, which was awkward and distracting. I asked the masseuse to focus on my lower back due to tension there, and they instead did about 80% upper back and only lightly touched on lower back. The way the room was set up is such that the masseuse is seated at the head of the massage table but would need to stand to massage something other than my shoulders/upper back and so again, as with the body vs. arm strength, the masseuse approached the massage in a manner than convenienced them instead of focusing on requested target areas. Lastly, as other reviewers mentioned in their prior location (https://www.yelp.com/biz/wonderful-massage-diamond-bar-2) they are really pushy with tips - I was pressured to tip on my cc with another member of the salon staff standing in the doorway and the salon being otherwise empty. I really wanted to like this place as I've been looking for a new go-to place for massages but I will not be returning. read more

My husband and I booked a 100 minute couples massage through Groupon on a whim. The therapists made us feel comfortable and they were quick to get started. The pressure I was given for the back was great! I injured my lower back and could tell the therapist could locate my knots. The price was great but keep in mind that there is a small amount of staff so they may need to stop and greet a walk-in. If that doesn't bother you than this is a great place! IT WAS A GREAT EXPERIENCE! I've been trying out different massage places around Berkeley/Oakland/Emeryville, and this place is by far my favorite! They recently switched to new owners, who are very kind and experienced. I explained the tension in my neck, back, and calf, and the masseuse was able to identify pressure points and relieve them. Not a single minute went to waste, and it was a relaxing overall experience. They are also doing opening promotions, but even without the promotions the pricing here is so worth it by bay area standards. Definitely recommend giving this place a try as it's good service and reasonable price. I'll probably become a regular here. read more

Would not recommend. I got a Groupon and decided to come in to treat myself on NYE. I was instantly not comfortable at all. There were no other customers and the tables were separated by curtains. I could hear the receptionist guy downstairs talking on his phone for at least the first 40 minutes of my massage. My masseuse kept calling me lady: "Hey lady, are you ready?" Before we started, I told the guy that I was ticklish on my back. He did not understand me at all. I pointed to my back and said I'm ticklish here. He said, "Here, soft?" I was like yeah sure whatever. Never have I had a masseuse try to pull down my underwear. I asked him 3 times, "What are you doing?" He then finally picked up the bottle of oil and said "Oil". I said, "No. Back only". He said okay. He still focused a lot of time on my butt. It was the strangest thing. They use a LOT of oil. I felt like I was about to be baked in an oven, I had oil dripping down my body. I felt like he used the entire bottle. At the end of it all, he took a hot towel and wiped it all off of me. I still had so much oil in my hair- he should have just asked me to tie it up! I had to go home and take another shower, I felt disgusting. He also massaged my armpits and my ears? Like.. why? If he had done it for a long time I would have said no, but it was only a few seconds before moving on but I've never had that before either. Not only was I not comfortable because I could hear everything else that was going on outside of my curtained area (creaky floors, water flushing, cups banging..), it was just not a good massage. I didn't feel my energy flowing anywhere, I was not loosened up, and I definitely was not relaxed. When I left, I walked downstairs and my masseuse was standing there with a tiny cup of water. The receptionist was not very welcoming. When he asked how it was, I said, "Ok. Here's my Groupon" and left as quickly as possible. Not recommended. read more

I saw their Groupon so decided to call to see when their next avail. appt was. They're schedule is wide open as I don't think they're too popular yet which was great for me. They schedule weird though, I gave them a date and time and they confirmed I was set. I asked if they needed my name or number and they must have caller ID as the man said that's how they identify their appts. oh well whatever works for them! However, they should inform their customers. Anyways, I had an appt at 11am and they open at 10:30am. They weren't there at 10:50 as you can see from the photo I've posted. I called the business number and banged on the door with no answer. They arrived a few minutes later with apologies. It was my very first massage ever and it was pretty great! The Groupon was a great deal with an addition 25% off coupon! I made sure to leave a great tip. I was very sore the next day. I tried to drink a lot of water the day of! I wish they would've reminded me to drink fluids after my massage as I've heard you're supposed to. My boyfriend got one through Groupon the next morning and he said it was just okay. I had a great experience, a full body massage including the feet and and a quite, calm masseuse. On the other hand, my mom had a very harsh massage. We asked for gentle but hers was painful and the masseuse made some comments that seemed passive aggressive when my mom stirred like "oh is this your first massage?" She also did not massage her feet or head, unlike mine. So you can have both a good experience or bad experience depending on the masseuse you get. read more

This is definitely the worst spa experience that one can ever imagine. The environment is dusty and moldy, smells like a grossy kitchen. I was too tired to judge and just wanted t have 30 minute relaxing spa. I never expected it to become a nightmare. The only staff there is a lady who can't speak English, I was fine with and I prefer to speak my mother tongue, Mandarin. However, she then started asking me about how to do grocery shopping around downtown Berkeley, complained about how inconvenient to live in bay area. I tried to ignore her, she just kept going. Then, she had problems with her phone (why she needs to use her phone while doing massage? I don't know) and ASK ME TO FIX HER PHONE!!! I told her I can't, she stopped nagging. Her massage skills were awful, made me really uncomfortable, I told her to do it gently, and she said " how come you pain tolerance is so low? " Excuse me?! I pay you for relaxation, not for a pain tolerance training. The "best part" of this experience occurred 15 minutes later, while another English speaking costumer walked in, she could not communicate well with him, and then ASK ME TO TRANSLATE FOR HER!!!!!! I was topless only covered by a blanket!!!! I left with so much confusion and frustration. The last thing I heard from her is " where is my tip?"
